Thankful replied to Che -Guevara's topic in Politics
Do you read Garoweonline? Currently, there is a Puntland MP jailed in Bossaso awaiting trail for a rape case, making it the first time a Puntland lawmaker was jailed and lost his immunity. " Do you read this garbage? So Lawmakers in the past had immunity from crimes they committed? What immunity are they talking about? -
Somalia: Puntland court sentences former governor-Progress?

The question Cowke is, why was he targeted in the first place? From what I heard it was retalition for 3 guys that were killed weeks earlier, who had gone to close down an illegal checkpoint and were fired upon. If this is the case, then the score is settled, that is why there is no longer anymore fighting. -
Horseednet Waxaa todobaadkii labaad xabsi aan la aqoon lagu hayaa labo macalin oo wax ka dhigi jiray Dugsiyada ku yaal magaalada Bosaso iyo Jaamacada Bariga Afrika ee Bosaso. Sharciga Puntland u yaal ayaa ah in dadka danbiga loo heysto muddo 48 gudahood ah Maxkamad lagu soo saaro, ayadoo lagu cadeenayo danbiyadooda, hase yeeshee xariga macalimiinta ayaa ah mid aan wax war ah aysan dowlada kasoo saarin, illaa iyo hada. Hase yeeshee marar badan oo hore ayey ka dhacday Puntland in dad aan danbi lagu helin balse lagu tuhmo oo kaliya arrimo aan la shaacin ay ciidamada Sirdoonka Puntland ay la tagaan, isla markaana qaarkood aanba lasoo taagin wax maxkamad ah, ayadoona horey u jireen dad la siidaayey xarig kadib markii wax danbi ah lagu waayey. Somalia: Puntland court sentences former governor-Progress?
Thankful replied to Che -Guevara's topic in Politics
Faroole's son's want to try and change every news to make them look good. There's no accountability, for instance when there was that fire on the boat, they said that "government officials blamed previous administration for not enacted fire laws." Now they are trying to say that previous admins gave governors immunity from rape and murder? There has never been a minister killed while on duty and there is no way a family will allow a rape to occur and not seek punishment against the accused. This are crimes of murder and rape are involving government officials are new to Puntland. Most admin praise the leaders and governments before them for everything and show respect, but these guys always twist things to make it look like now things are better and before they were worse. They don't realize they are making Puntland look bad!!! As these clowns have implied, who would want to invest in a place that just started punishing parliament members accused of rape or punish someone involved in murder with 6 months? This is exactly why the VOA was banned for simply interviewing someone, he needed to put his spin on all the news. -
Originally posted by Ducaqabe: ^You need to know the difference of the label of a terrorist and a suspect of terror acts. These men are held captive for allegedly committing terror. Innocent until proven guilty, when they are convicted call them terrorists. The is exactly it, after a court has found them guilty then they are terrorists. Right now it should say "suspected terrorists". But they know the headline sounds better if you already label them terrorists. I think this news is trying to change the subject on the imaginary elections that was stolen and how there are no longer elections held in a place that says they are a democracy. So they make these ridiculous headlines.

sxb there is no such thing as snm clans or riyaale clans there is only Somaliland udub kulmiye and ucid So why do the leaders of the opposition belong to the same one, and the currect vice president? Where's Sool and Sanaag in the picture?

Why isn't this guy been banned? Too much hate, I think it's in the genes.

With the recent decision to suspend the reporters of VOA and ban VOA affiliate FM relay stations from broadcasting in its domain, the Administration of Somalia’s autonomous region of Puntland has shown its preference for supine media poodles to objective media watchdog. It seems Puntland leaders have found great contentment in taking the paternalistic path of feeding their people with government censored information in the fashion of socialist and dictatorial states rather than giving them the choice to make their own judgments through free and diversified media. President Abdirahman Faroole and his interior Minister General Abdillahi Ahmed Jama (Ilka-Jiir) What astonishes me is that both the President Abdirahman Faroole and his interior Minister and former rival for the presidencey, General Abdillahi Ahmed Jama (Ilka-Jiir) spent quite some time in countries where freedom of speech is guaranteed and that they enjoyed the full privilege of speaking up their mind if they wanted to. It is equally astounding how African politicians crave for media attention when they are on the road to elections yet make a dramatic turnaround once they get the power. It reminds me of the Somali anecdote of the woman whose camel has lost its balance due to the weight on its back. She made the camel sit down so she could adjust the load. But travelling alone with only her young son, she prayed to the soul of Sheikh Abdulqadir Jilani, the founder of the Qadiri sufi order to which most of Somalis adhere to for help, saying: “Jiilaniyow ii gurmo, O’ Jilani come to my rescue.” When she managed to adjust the load and the camel stood up again and moved around without any problem, her son asked her: “Hooyo, Jiilaani muxuu inoo yahay? Is Jilani related to us?” to which the mother retorted: “waxba inooma aha ee awrkeena uun baan ku kacsanaynay...He is not related to us but we were just using him to help us with our camel.” I remember when Faroole and Ilka-jiir were running for election; they seemed to be champions for free speech, eager to talk to any media outlet and obviously would not have liked it if the media was banned from talking to them. I spoke to General Ilka-jiir when he was transiting in Dubai on his way to Puntland and he sounded to be a very intelligent and open-minded man; the kind of a man that you thought would think would bring freedom and hope to his people. It is disappointing, however, to see media freedom deteriorate during his reign as Minister of Interior and Faroole as President. In less than a year of their coming to power, the government has silenced reporters, arrested them, beaten them in courts and even closed stations, the latest of which is the VOA. To cite some of the known cases, the director of the Somali ETN television based in Bosasso was arrested in March 2009. It was reported that Abdiwali Sheik, the ETN Director, had been detained him from his office. In Mid July, Puntland police attacked Aweys Sheikh Nur, a local reporter, during a court session, act described by the Committee to Protect Journalists as “utterly unjustified,” and called upon Puntland government to “…punish the guards and ensure that journalists can do their work without fear of being attacked.” Aslo in June, Puntland’s Minister of Information Deputy Minister Abdishakur Mire Adan acting at the behest of the son of President, Mohamed Abdirahman Farole told Horseed Media to remove a story hinting to a link between Puntland officials and pirates. Horseed Media refused to take the article down as reported by CPJ. Puntland Journalists Protection (PJP) also reported the detention, arrest and torture of a number of bloggers and conventional journalists. Puntland officials usually cite these reports as reflecting negatively on Puntland and accuse the reporters of instigating instability in the region. But among the VOA reports that angered the authorities was an interview with a cleric, a member of the anti-Al Qaeda Sufi order known as Ahlu Sunna Wal Jama’ah, who claimed that his group has a presence in Puntland and a report on August 25 of a former governor’s son who killed a man in broad daylight. The CPJ and other international and local media organizations have denounced these rogue actions by Puntland authorities. Looking at all these actions, one may wonder why the educated leaders of Puntland who lived in the west and experienced the benefits of media freedom are acting like militia warlords who have more skeletons to hide than truths to share with their people. One thing, however, that Puntland leaders have to know is that it is not only brutal and thuggish to beat arrest or even ban the media but it is also a bad PR for their image and reputation as a responsible government. The best way that any government can challenge any biased reporting if any is not to gag the media but to be honest and transparent with their people, to tell their side of the story and to invite more diversified media to report about truth on the ground. Banning the VOA or any other independent media and relying only on the government’s official media will only create suspicion about the government’s actions and will incite the real media watchdogs to sniff around the lies that the media poodles are trying to bury. As I was concluding this piece I read that Puntland authorities have permitted VOA to resume its operations. According to statement by the Ministry of Information: “His Excellency, the President of Puntland State, granted the VOA Somali Service to resume its news broadcasting operations in Puntland today as a good gesture to U.S. Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Michael E. Renneberger’s participation at the Puntland Diaspora Forum Conference to be held in the U.S. State of Minnesota, 10 – 12 October 2009.” This is further evidence of the Somali woman’s Jilani story that I related earlier. Puntland Officials need to show a real change of attitude towards media freedom than just cosmetic and self-serving tactics. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bashir Goth Email: bsogoth@yahoo.com Hiiraan

Duke’s manifesto for Somalia a path to restoring the republic.
Thankful replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
How are they both a country if no one recognizes one it doesn't even speak at the UN? On is a country and one is not. Can I say I own property if it is not legally recongized? So how can NW Somalia be a country in your eyes? Thats' the only issue I have with you and the likes of Oodweyne and others, you actually think you are a country already. -
President Faroole sent a message to all other media that have people on the ground reporting news. Don't report anything he disproves of even if it is the truth or you will be shut down. He used the media (and piracy) very will to get into power and knows the power of it. One thing is for certain, all other news agencies will carefully select what they report for now on.

Its OFFICIAL: Ethiopia did the abduction in Galkacyo.
Thankful replied to MoonLight1's topic in Politics
Puntland is a firm supporter of the onlf, the onlf people use Bossaso port till this day in puntland in relative peace except the occasional hiccup which is always quickly resolved. Puntland would never admit they support the ONLF. They deny it everytime they are ask. But if what you say is true, then Puntland will need to show who's side their are on. Either cut ties with Ethiopia or the ONLF. The operation could never have been completed without the help of the Puntland government on the ground. In a tough city like Gaalkayo, the Ethiopians weren't alone. -

Duke’s manifesto for Somalia a path to restoring the republic.

Duke back to your manifesto, you have very good points and everyone should get involved in this debate. On thing that we must address is Qabiil, it's a sickness that has taken over the nation, where people are no longer chosen solely on their qualifications but also where they belong to. We need to address this problem and eradicate it. In Hargeysa NW Somalia both opposition leaders are from the same family and so is the vice pres. You can see some of this in those fighting in Kismayo, Puntland and other areas. Maybe we need to be radical and adopt a law that forbids people talking about it. It is probably unrealistic, but something must be done. The colonialists exploited this (like in many other countries) to divide and conquer. I know many don't like talking about this and it is against the SOL golden rules, but nothing will improve until we look past this problem. I believe the religious leaders can play the biggest role in forgetting about how useless it is. -
Originally posted by MoonLight1: Cawke quote: For example he said in his first point that puntland has done nothing. Well if that was the case, why are people fleeing to puntland daily? why is it bossaso today and bossaso 91 is two different worlds? Its the ppl who built things not the state, show me one road, one hospital or one school. Pland existed for 11 years and it built one MAXJARKA xoolaha in Bosaso thats all. There has been a lot built, which is the reason that people from from all over come to Puntland, the number one factor is that it is an area of peace. I think that Dr. Yusuf Issa who seems to be able to criticize so well, should be given the presidency to see how he can run the show. Puntland during Siad Barres and other recognized leaders was the most neglected part of Somalia, why didn't he mention that not a single airport was built in the entire state? Why didn't he mention that NW Somalia got tons of funds to build Hargeysa especially the crucial airport and sea port. I even heard Riyaale lives in an old Siad Barre Villa, where Morgan use to live. Still the only thing built in Puntland was ONE road and the seaport that was never completed because the war broke out. These "Dr" have no idea how to write articles that are fair and look at the issue from different perspectives. They have no clue how to write a piece that weighs in all the factors. Puntland is trying to build it's own airport, because it has been given NOTHING. Puntland is trying to build new roads because it has been given NOTHING. Laasqoray is trying to build it's own sea port. The man can try and twist the facts and make the state out to be a place with so much problems and qabiil, I don't think there is a single qabiil that is not represented in Bosasso, co-existing peacefully. As I just mention. The area that is now referred to as Puntland has been given nothing when there was an effective government in Somalia and was the most neglected area in Somalia's history. We in Puntland are trying to build a state from scratch.

Mogadishu: Al Shabaab parade, captured police Vehicles: PICS

Hence, Somaliland, may not have that sort of opportunity at the front of the international arena, but, in the real meaning of “jurisdictional state” and “functioning government” (not what is written in some UN charter tallying up the member-states of that body), which is essentially, and most crucially of all, the “yardstick” in the ground that does not lie at all, it's Somaliland, that is head and shoulder above anything that the said Sh. Hotel is ever likely to achieved; much less to be said as to what he has achieved during the time he was in office. With all the points you made being, and your belief that despite the cancellation of your elections and lack of democracy that you are a functionign state, the fact still remains that the international community is unwilling to treat you the same way they treat the governments coming out of Mogadishu. NGONGE, Who's my uncle?

In defence of the VOA Somali Service October 6, 2009 filed under OPINION · Comments (0) In defence of the VOA Somali Service | read this item Puntland government’s decision to suspend the reporting duties of VOA stringers in Galkacyo, Garowe and Bosaso is deplorable. In a letter signed by Deputy Minister for Information, Abdishalur Mire Adam, states the three VOA stringers — Nuux Muuse Birjeeb, Maxamed Yaasiin Isxaaq and Cabdiqaadir Maxamed Nuunow — were instructed to abide by the suspension decision from the Ministry of Information. In another letter jointly signed by the Puntland Security Minster, CabdullaahI Siciid Samatar, and Deputy Information Minster, the reasons for “prohibiting local FM radio stations” from transmitting VOA Somali Service programming are: news fabrication on “ (a) politicians who were detained in Puntland and ( b) a news item on alleged Puntland offices of Ahlu Sunna wal Jama’a,” the anti Al Shabab group fighting in middle regions of Somalia. Puntland government letters show that no attempt was made to raise the issue with VOA bosses. The VOA has editorial guidelines that guide the work of every VOA journalist. It will not be surprising if one concludes that Puntland government decision is aimed at censoring the work of the Puntland based journalists who may be forced to seek clearance for any stories they wish to file for the news organisations and agencies they work for. Even if the VOA Somali Service reporters failed to fact-check their sources or allowed themselves to be used as a mouth-piece, the manner in which Puntland government has dealt with VOA stringers shows inability to handle ‘negative’ news coverage about Puntland. Adde Muuse’s administration used to rebut allegations by using a press release. Puntland Government ought to rethink its approach to the media. Liban Ahmad Horseednet

You have your opinion (which I respect) and I have mine. President Sharif has been in power for less then one year and has done more internationally then your enclave has, ever. Do you agree?
-
Oodweyne, You have to admit, the pictures with the crowds are pretty impressive. They are awe inspiring infact! The crowds are very aware that the thunderous and visible support they give our amazing President will look good internationally. That is why this man and his government officials meets world leaders like Obama and is why he spoke at the UN. Unlike NW Somalia where you hail from, a tribal state cannot produce this type of turnout by the diaspora. That is why they notified their people back home to get their fellow familiy members to rally in the Hargeysa when Riyaale was in Washington. No matter what you say about "Col Yey", we are seeing constantly that the only government speaking at the UN and meeting world leaders is the one that comes out of Mogadishu. No matter how bad things are depicted and how little control the government may have, the world will only meet with one Somali leader OPENLY, the one from Mogadishu. (I know you are going to talk about the imaginay behind close doors meeting your tribal enclaves leader is having! Which is rubbish)! Anyways believe me these powerful pictures with the crowds really help President Sharifs cause. Not Riyaale and the hotel conference centres that he fills up. The fact you are commenting on these pictures, even though your tribal enclave was never mention proves how powerful they are. The bottom line is this, when NW Somalis leaader Riyaale came to the US he received very little support, but President Sharif trip resulted in massive support....and you wonder why the world will only recognize one government and not yours?
-
Nice to see he dressed up to meet the president; I wonder if he'd dress the same way for any other leader! No Respect.
