Abdullahi Yusuf and Cade Muse both speak against eating khat. Old military men like them don't eat khat. Their generation never had it, in their time it was something only the northwest did. I agree a large pecentage of the government eat it and thats wrong. But the problem with the population is that all their money is going to the drug and not their families.

Jobs from the exploration won't be given to them(khat eaters). Hopefully they'll give it up.

This is a very wise decision. I personally saw the effects the drug had on people. Every month their salary would go to pay off the khat debt that they owed. A large portion of the population is addicted to it and are only complaining about not being paid because all their money goes to there addiction, which results in them not having any money left over for their families.

Embracing perhaps 3.5m of Somalia's 11m or so people, the former British Somaliland has long been a lot more secure than the country's anarchic, formerly Italian, south. If multi-party elections due this week in Somaliland are reasonably fair and open, the outside world, including the African Union and the United Nations, may have to start seriously reconsidering its status, which has been fudged since the collapse of unitary Somalia in 1991. All three of Somaliland's parties contesting the election are adamant about wanting outright independence. A shoot-out on September 23rd in Hargeisa, Somaliland's capital, resulted in the arrest of seven men loyal to the al-Qaeda brand. Somaliland's president, Dahir Riyale Kahnin, said the men were mostly locals, trained at a camp outside Mogadishu, the still-chaotic capital of Somalia proper. From what i'm hearing the exploration is going very good and Alhamdulilah there has been no incidents. The project has the peoples full support. Elders of the region have all endorsed it. If this wasn't the case the trucks wouldn't have even left the Port. Along with its independence declaration, the state also said it would return to a united Somalia as soon as peace, order and a central government was reinstalled. The possible discovery of oil in Puntland may however complicate such a reunification. Puntland has said over and over again it is part of Somalia. Do you actually believe that it declared independance from Abdullahi Yusuf's TFG? Why would it have gone to London to get Abdullahi Yusuf's signature if it was independant??? Drilling equipment? This is a major misconception that is continuously made. We are not drilling for oil or trying to extract it. Which is exactly why so many people are in favor of it.
