NGONGE - I believe the Courts and Puntlands intentions are good. They both dont like the drug. Did you see the protests when the courts did it, and the uproar? They didn't even have jobs in place for the people they made unemployed. I think the way the Puntland president is doing it is wiser, he is simply saying, if you want employment give it up. Look, you can't agree with what the courts did and then be against what Puntland is doing!
-
Nephthys - Remind me, if this guy Somalishame runs for office..not to vote for him.
-
Wow, when the courts were doing it. Everyone was like this is so amazing and praising them. Even though it hurt those mothers who were forced to sell it. Now the Puntland leader does it and their attacking him for it. The hypocracy!!! The drug is bad for society and he's going after those using it. It's a wise move and you know it, but this is proof some people will never agree with a leader from another reer. Nephthys - when you grow up, i'll discuss political issues with u.

Abdullahi Yusuf and Cade Muse both speak against eating khat. Old military men like them don't eat khat. Their generation never had it, in their time it was something only the northwest did. I agree a large pecentage of the government eat it and thats wrong. But the problem with the population is that all their money is going to the drug and not their families.
-
Jobs from the exploration won't be given to them(khat eaters). Hopefully they'll give it up.
-
This is a very wise decision. I personally saw the effects the drug had on people. Every month their salary would go to pay off the khat debt that they owed. A large portion of the population is addicted to it and are only complaining about not being paid because all their money goes to there addiction, which results in them not having any money left over for their families.

We don't need to compare ourselves to them. They had no choice but to allow a neutral Riyaale to stay as pres, he keeps the two main forces in that region separated. But if the election had gone as planned and one of those forces got into power, that would have really started problems. It was a wise move on their part. With that being said, Puntland will be forced to hold fair election. The last one in 2004 were, and these ones will be to. They will not tolerate anyone coming in a imposing their power. The question isnt' whether their will be a fair election but who has a big enough name to get the most votes.

Somaliland to Deport Terrorists to their Countries
Thankful replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in Politics
My point exactly, you've been doing this way before anyone else. So how can you possibly even criticize the TFG for doing it? Link Trying to behave like a proper state Sep 29th 2005 | NAIROBI From The Economist print edition Breakaway Somaliland has impressed the Americans by hitting al-Qaeda THE breakaway northern bit of Somalia, Somaliland, struck a blow for full independence last week by busting an al-Qaeda cell. Embracing perhaps 3.5m of Somalia's 11m or so people, the former British Somaliland has long been a lot more secure than the country's anarchic, formerly Italian, south. If multi-party elections due this week in Somaliland are reasonably fair and open, the outside world, including the African Union and the United Nations, may have to start seriously reconsidering its status, which has been fudged since the collapse of unitary Somalia in 1991. All three of Somaliland's parties contesting the election are adamant about wanting outright independence. A shoot-out on September 23rd in Hargeisa, Somaliland's capital, resulted in the arrest of seven men loyal to the al-Qaeda brand. Somaliland's president, Dahir Riyale Kahnin, said the men were mostly locals, trained at a camp outside Mogadishu, the still-chaotic capital of Somalia proper. Some had received training in Afghanistan; at least one was internationally known. Their aim, he said, was to destabilise Somaliland by killing leaders and foreign aid workers, four of whom have been murdered by Islamist radicals since 2003. There was a heady whiff of convenience about the arrests. What better, the week before an election in such a fervently patriotic fief, than to demonstrate a threat to Somaliland? Some in Somalia's fragile transitional federal government, which still lays claim to Somaliland, privately say the raid was contrived. They are probably wrong. The timing may have owed something to Somaliland politics, where voters are softened up with gifts of narcotic qat leaves, and people's votes are divided along clan lines. But western worries about al-Qaeda's penetration into the Horn of Africa are nonetheless genuine. Perfect for Osama? American counter-terrorism work, mostly in collaboration with local militias and the Ethiopian secret service, has gone some way to identifying extreme Islamists inside Somalia. Catching them is harder. A few operational figures are thought to be hiding in and around lawless Mogadishu, which is mostly off-limits to diplomats, UN types and aid-workers. Though a transitional government for the whole of Somalia was set up last year in Kenya, it has failed to establish an effective presence in any part of the country, and has already broken into factions. One lot has been trying in vain to run the show from Jowhar, north of Mogadishu. To complicate matters further between north and south, a self-proclaimed breakaway government of Puntland, with its capital at Bossaso, has been demanding autonomy within a federal Somalia. And the Puntlanders claim bits of eastern Somaliland. Some of the Islamists scattered around Somalia's various parts have roots in the Egyptian bit of Islamic Jihad, others are closer to al-Qaeda. Those caught in Hargeisa may have been connected to al-Itihaad al-Islami, a group that wants to create an emirate of Somalia along the lines of Saudi Arabia's austere Wahhabi sect. They sound particularly hostile to Ethiopia, with which Somaliland's fledgling government has been cultivating friendlier relations. In July, the Ethiopians agreed to ship some of their goods through the Somaliland port of Berbera, on a road improved with European Union funds. Even if magnified for political effect, the arrests are a powerful signal to Islamist radicals that Somaliland is no longer a completely safe haven for them—a fact underlined by the expulsion of some foreign mullahs after the raid. That is especially notable since the Saudi government's own crackdown on radical preachers means that more of them had been looking to Somaliland as a handy refuge. The efficiency of the locally organised swoop and the steady march of democracy in breakaway Somaliland have impressed the Americans, who have a regional military hub next door in less democratic Djibouti. Expect them to give a puff to Somaliland's chances of attaining statehood proper. -
Somaliland to Deport Terrorists to their Countries
Thankful replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in Politics
Pitiful TFG? LOL, Northwest Somalia are the first ones to start claiming they caught Al qaeda, and blamed the deaths of foreigners on them. Your own Vice Pres claimed a 17 year old girl was sent by Al qaeda in Bosasoo to assasinate him. The reason why JB is saying this is because your government things by arresting these people you'll get on the Americans good side. Plus the CIA guys that visit every corner of Somalia regularly pressure every regional authority to start capturing. I hate to admit it to you, but Somaliland has clamed terrorists leave in their area for years now, long before the TFG was formed. But of course you won't admit that. That's something only the TFG would do. -
Somalia: China oil company representatives visiting Puntland
Thankful replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
I dont know why northwest Somalia is obsessed with what's going on with us. They flood the threads with their B.S positive news and then look for any article they can find against the rest of Somalia. There president just threw their democracy out the window and they barely even spoke about it. Such a huge inferiority complex, do you see us looking for every article and posting it? -
From what i'm hearing the exploration is going very good and Alhamdulilah there has been no incidents. The project has the peoples full support. Elders of the region have all endorsed it. If this wasn't the case the trucks wouldn't have even left the Port. There are those of course against it, as this thread proves that wish to see absolutely no progress for any other regions to further their tribal cause. They post articles of every single crime that happens, which occurs in everyone place in the world, but pretend it is only taking place in Puntland. But when it comes to their tribal lands it nothing but great news...airport, budget, offices, water projects!!! We understand...your side good, our side bad. Other enemies are those from abroad who want to be the ones bring companies in. Puntland must be aware of these enemies who will do anything to destroy it.

This link is full of lies. Puntland is not independant, it falls under the TFG, which is why it got Abdullahi Yusufs signature. Dont use this to answer you question, i'll try and find a valid site.
-
STOP POSTING THESE RIDICULOUS ARTICLES THAT IS PROBABLY WRITTEN BY SOME GUY HIGH ON KHAT!!!! Puntland has declared its independence from Somalia and is governed by a regional authority based in Bossaso. Along with its independence declaration, the state also said it would return to a united Somalia as soon as peace, order and a central government was reinstalled. The possible discovery of oil in Puntland may however complicate such a reunification. Puntland has said over and over again it is part of Somalia. Do you actually believe that it declared independance from Abdullahi Yusuf's TFG? Why would it have gone to London to get Abdullahi Yusuf's signature if it was independant??? You keep searching for nonesense articles and post the ones that you could easily tell are lying. But you still post it. Based in Bosasso??? Another fact they got wrong, the capital is Garowe, where the president spends the majority of his time!!!
-
You'll see if the people don't accept it. If they didn't these trucks wouldnt' have even left the port. There are enemies in Puntland targeting intelligence officers, so yeah they'll take shots at whatever they can. Their goal is to harm the state. But don't speak for the people! Concentrate on your tribal enclave.
-
The news is NONESENSE. There are people who want to flood negative news every chance they get. They even tried to say the President will extend his term, that Abdullahi Yusuf and he had a secret agreement. Complete lies, there is Peace in Puntland, there always has been. The area the trucks are headed are welcomed by the people. I agree there are many enemies from all over that want to end this. What's monkey business is a so called country claiming to be a democracy and having their president extend his term by a year for absolutely no reason. Without even allowing any independant ELECTED body vote. You have no clue the damage it has done to your already weak cause.
-
Now that work has actually begun and those opposing it could do nothing to stop it. Expect far more negative articles written. It's the only thing they can do now.

Drilling equipment? This is a major misconception that is continuously made. We are not drilling for oil or trying to extract it. Which is exactly why so many people are in favor of it. This is to simply EXPLORE WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS ACTUAL OIL AND OTHER SIGNIFICANT MINERAL DEPOSITS. That's it, you are right the drills to take oil out are larger. But they are not required. Plus there is still equipment on its way. Taking oil out will come at a much later time (maybe by another admin) considering there is proven to be any. General Duke, for sure this is a very good development. I hear that in Bosasoo they've banned tint on windows of cars, and there are security check points all over. The security is improving Alhamdulilah, but there are many enemies out there from all over that are still determined to stop all this progress. Insha'Allah they won't be successful! Puntland has a huge border and coastline to protect! With that being said, our elections must be held on time and there there will be no excuse for them not to be.
-
Duke, I heard from people in Bosasoo that when the vehicles were driving through the main road, crowds of people where on the sides of the road cheering. They were in complete shock, because they had never seen anything like it. Insha'Allah this will continue! Many doubters thought this day would never come, those on SOL who always post what ever negative article they find that was written by some guy abroad who had no clue on what is going on. So many are speechless!
