Cadde as an advisor? What a shrewd move. Sometimes I wonder where some comments, like this one come from and what the person was thinking. The first person President Faroole named as an advisor was General Cadde. Anyone that has ever visited Puntland knows that General Cadde holds lots of influence in Bari and amoung a large portion of the population in Puntland. He kept the people from fighting during his 4 years. In order for President Faroole to succeed he must build a coalition of influencial people that hail from every corner of the state. The past is the past and differences must be put a side. You do not want to make enemies with someone that had the post before you. Even distancing yourself from someone like Gen Cade would make your job more difficult then it already and would be foolish. President Faroole is an educated man and know's who he needs to align himself with.

Such a powerful pic masha'Allah. For one man to have complete power for 4 years and on top of it all and within a couple of days hands over that power while smiling, is simply amazing. Regardless of what you think of the state, whether you want to say that it was a selection and not a election or that it was tribal based. An African leader transfered power peacefully after being voted out and now are willing to work together.

When you control a state where your borders are surrounded by those that don't even admit you exist and continuously threaten your existence. You will definitely have people that hate you, the more you are successful they more they will hate you. Those that hate us, will never ever compliment us in anyway, shape or form. He kept the peace even when so much of the security apparatus was taken to the South. I hope one day you make a trip to Puntland and see how beautiful it is developing. Without security this would be impossible, simple look at Mogadishu as an example! If you want to read the achievements feel free. Puntland Development

Things are peaceful alhamdulilah and you will feel more danger walking in many cities abroad then you do anywhere else in Puntland. Everyone gets along very well with each other and are aware of the cost of war. We will now support our new president in any way that we can. The past is the past and we will look towards the future. It's gives me great pride to think that we can hand over power so peacefully masha'Allah. (those who claim our new president is corrupt, also have negative stuff to say about the old one and Abdullahi Yusuf, there's a pattern here. The root of it is their wish to see the state crumble and fail.)

Puntland has demonstrated that they can change leadership peaceful once again. This has eluded so many other regions. President Cade Muse definitely left his mark on the state. He refused to use intimidation and fear during his leadership and kept his word and had elections on time. During the first two years things were very promising and going smoothly and airport had began to be built. Yet soon enough the ICU came to power and threatened Puntland very existence, which forced the state to give considerable amount of resources (i.e. military, financial, training) to the Transitional Federal Government. This slowed the development of the state and the significant amount of soldiers that left resulted in security issues. Mohamud Muse Hersi made sure that citizens of Puntland got along with each other and brokered many peace deals between feuding groups. He held the state together when those who wanted it destroyed tried to infiltrate it and put on his military uniform when they were at the gates of Gaalkayo, ready to die for the land. Some may say there is no security but I know, just like others who are actually live and visit Puntland, that there is no fear in the streets and it is definitely peaceful. Without a doubt the citizens of Puntland got long with each other very well and Mohamud Muse forced them to use dialogue when dealing with problems rather then violence. Even when a elder peace maker from his tribe was killed and those responsible did it in hopes of triggering retaliation and civil war, he refused to go the old Somali route of an eye for an eye. He instead made sure no innocent people were harmed I have been to this state many times and during his leadership the state has grown significantly. I am shocked how large Garoowe has become, he spoke to as many people as he could from the Diaspora and said look at me, come back here and build your country. I believe Mohamud Muse Hersi started a precedent and the number of the Diaspora running for pres this elections definitely proved it, people are returning to build their land from abroad. Many more have come back and built hotels and other infrastructure. Like I said earlier he showed that no one is bigger then the state and held elections on time and swore to shake the person hand who won the presidency's and would work with him. Now no leader can extend their term or refuse to step down. With such arid land and poverty and meager resources he was able to keep the peace between the populations even when there was a war at its gates. He wanted to lead without violence and avoided it at all cost. He has left a remarkable page in Puntlands short history.

that is why i always say it is a BUGLAND ... It was created on clan basis and it is ending in the same way ...... Wow a person from Somaliland calling puntland clan based. What has the world come to??? You are having elections and the only two oppostion group represent 1 tribe, YOUR TRIBE. The dominant one, however, where is the tribes of reer Sool and Sanaag? The belong to a completely different tribe, so you gave them no chance at running for pres, let alone winning it. You have never had a peaceful transition of power and if your first so-called president was still alive, he'd still be there. You avoid tribal conflict so you gave the post to a neutral person in Riyaale who is from a smaller tribe the dominant one. When someone from Sool and Sanaag runs for pres and you have a peaceful transition of power, then comment on other states! Until then, marvel in how Puntland is able to handover power peacefully.

Well since Dhahar is on board as you say, maybe the vice President who is already in Erigavo or any other Candidates, even the president should swing by so we can see the welcoming they get.

Dahir Riyaale to be new President Sharif Ahmed PM
Thankful replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
I know what you mean duke, only in Somalia huh. When Saddam was over thrown in Iraq the puppet gov't made sure no former baath officals were in the new gov't. They finally allowed low level ones in. But in Somaliland they claimed they were subjected to persecution by the former regime, say they are breaking away and then elected the head of the intelligence service from the regime as it's President. That's why you'd never hear of Somalis brought before the international war crimes tribunal. It's too confusing. -
Dahir Riyaale to be new President Sharif Ahmed PM
Thankful replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
It's believable that they offered him the job and tried to convince him to take it, telling him that you are no closer to recognition now then you were from day one. So becoming the President of a real recognized nation and not a puppet of the dominant clan in Somaliland. But he would never even consider the idea. He could never fix the problems facing Somaliweyn. -
Puntland should not secede whatever the outcome.
Thankful replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Puntland will definitely secede (depending on the outcome of Abdullahi Yusuf), it's not a question of if, but when. We will have no relations with the new government. Who will more then likely be led by Nur Cade or Sheik Sharif. The annoucement will be made at the right time, sooner or later. I am not sure if they will seek independance, because it will never come. But they definitely want nothing to do with the south. -
Show me where i've called it Qhatland? I might call it what it is, a tribal enclave like so many others in Somalia, who are afraid of having elections because Riyaale doesn't want to step down. I think Qhatland came from the fact that it definitely started over there and spread down all over Somalia. Regardless of all that, I wish everyone came to Puntladn and saw that what the media portray's is not the truth.

It's the truth, you think khat is a joke? Enormous business for Kenya. Puntland doesn't play around. It is very important to Kenya. You think they quickly apologized to be nice? or the comment they made about Abdullahi Yusuf was a mistake? Puntland quickly notified Kenya the displeasure it had concerning the announcment they made towards President Abdullahi Yusuf and would be responding accordingly. They quikcly retracted! You have no clue the unity Puntland has right now. If they impeach, wait and see the consequences, I certain they won't go through with it. Duke, I have my camera with me, i'm in Garowe now, and hope to start taking as many pics as possible. I see house's here now that look like some in Dubai, the city has grown enormously. You hear in the news the insecurity and it's safer then I've ever seen it. Although piracy is a very serious issue and kidnapping of foreigners to. The population is very peaceful towards each other and I see a great deal of development being biult. I heard bosasoo is even better. I can't wait to go, hopefully next week insha'Allah. I was in a hall where president Cade Muse spoke and he told the crowd that, if he does not win. He'll shake the hand of his opponent and work with him. The place starting clapping and cheering loudly. It's as if they never heard a Somalia politician say that. I'll start taking pictures insha'Allah there's a really nice library full of kids studying everyday that i've been to a lot, enormous hotels and other buildings. web page Nairobi, June 26, 2003 (BBC) - The ban by Kenyan authorities of all flights to and from Somalia has dealt a big blow to the lucrative business in the mild stimulant, khat. Khat growers in Kenya have staged protests, while militiamen in Somalia are reported to be suffering from withdrawal symptoms. Kenya last week banned all flights to and from the neighboring country in what was described as an anti-terrorist move. The decision followed last Friday's warning of a possible imminent attack on the United States embassy in Nairobi. Affected by the ban are all Somali-owned commercial passenger airlines, United Nations flights and dozens of small aircraft that ferry the Kenyan-grown khat. Piling high Khat farmers and flight operators are now warning that their livelihood will suffer if the ban is not lifted soon. "It has completely brought our business to a halt. It is like flying into a brick wall at 300 mph," said one khat businessman. "This issue of banning the flights from Kenya to Somalia, and the issue of terrorism, the whole thing has a political motive from the US and British governments," another khat businessman complained. Since Friday thousands of kilogrammes of khat has been piling up in Nairobi and central Kenya, where the shrub is grown. Since the ban was imposed farmers and traders have been losing around $300,000 daily. Lush hills The ban is also being felt in the air transport industry. Captain Himat Vaghela is the managing director of Capital Airlines, one of the airlines which ferry more than 15,000kg of khat daily to Mogadishu. "We have three flights which fly to different destinations in Somalia. In fact we have just bought a new aeroplane worth $1,200,000 financed by the Barclays Bank, and of course they will also want the money to be paid back on time," says Captain Vaghela. Withdrawal On the lush hills surrounding Mount Kenya in central Kenya, angry Khat farmers have been staging protest marches over the decision to ban flights to Somalia. Their MP, Maoka Maore, says the farmers are losing heavily: "It has a very strong negative impact economically. It is upwards of $15,000 a day. When there is an impact like that even the rest of the buyers tend to lower their prices," says Mr Maore. Across the northern border the BBC's Hassan Barise in Mogadishu says chewers of khat have been going through withdrawal symptoms as the trade ban imposed by Kenya begins to bite. "Due to the lack of the commodity in Mogadishu the militiamen will be very nervous, they will be in need of the commodity which now costs 400,000 Somali shillings ($20) for an amount that one man can chew in a day," he says. "It is very dangerous situation." Many Somalis in Kenya and Somalia think that Kenyan accusations of terrorism and weapons smuggling are exaggerated and point to Kenya's borders with Ethiopia, Sudan and Uganda which could be used by terrorists. For its part, Kenya sees Somalia as a lawless country and a potential haven for terrorists.

I am in Garowe right now, I saw the Banaanbax today, it was big. Basically they had mega phones and were even speaking Swahili and Somali (of course) saying we want nothing to do with Kenya. Because there was talk of Kenya barring Abdullahi Yusuf, kicking his son out and seizing his assets. Puntland is standing behind him and warned Kenya that it would stop purchasing Khat from their nation if they do so, something that we all know makes them huge revenue. Kenya's ton has already changed.

Here we go now, when I watch that segment on places that don't exist. Somaliland takes the camera crew to a jail, pull out three guys that looking malnourished and say these guys are Al Qadea. Everyone with have a brain new they were full of it. And of course they came from the South, no bad people ever come from the tribes of Somaliland. The assasinations of foriengers, bombings all Southerners, no locals help them. Now the Pirates are in the news and Somaliland show pictures of 5 guys they arrested. Basically saying "Look at us, look at us, we are a nations we are fighting and arresting just like you". Keep the bogus pics up! Anyone knows the majority of the high profile attacks take place in the indian ocean or where it meets the gulf of Aden, that's why Eyl is the major base. Stop the nonesense and concentrate on pressuring your President to hold elections.

FUNNIEST picture i've ever seen. This man is the imposter of all imposters. Where was this guy when he gave ethiopians 7 days to get out of the country and ran away immediately? Now he dresses up like this? He sent so many brave and fearless young men to their death, and left the country to spare his own life. Ridiculous.

Puntland was made as a safe haven for those that lost everything in Xamar whether it was in 1991 or present. Many had to take boats in order to get to Puntland because the trip by land was too dangerous as thousands of killers were waiting to wipe out innocent people. Money, Somalis in Puntland are wise and know that declaring yourself independant is pointless because no one will recognize you. That's why Puntland has always said it is still part of Somalia. I "believe" Puntland is basically saying that if you reject our leader that won fair and square, we will reject yours. Expect those in Djibouti to take this annoucement seriously and that Abdullahi Yusuf and Cade Muse will be arriving in Djibouti. I don't think it's personal, strictly political maneuvering.

Somalipride, who are those that wants to destroy Puntland? And what's holding them now? If Adde cares about that place, it would have been better today then it was 4 yrs ago and thats not the case my friend. We'll I am pretty sure that the many different factions in the south, whether it be the leadership of the ICU or Al Shabab want to install their own Somali wide Government, which they've said numerous times. Plus They are already spreading in the south and gaining momentum. And we both know that if the Ethiopians ever left (which I doubt they will), the forces from the South would rush to "try" and take over Puntland. I think the only thing stoping them from waging war is the AU forces led by Ethiopia.

Abdullahi has no power to extend Cade's rule. (I think the candidates are shooting themselves in the foot by having so many of them running for pres, it may back fire.) The two leaders are always one step ahead of those that wish to see Puntland destroyed. They know there is a possibility of conflict from the south approaching and are getting ready. They are showing unity. Now those in Djibouti will have to listen to Abdullahi Yusuf, expect him to make a trip in the next few days because of the support Puntland gave him.

The Puntland Government led by President Cade Muse will release an offical statement and hold a press conference with the TFG President Abdullahi Yusuf regarding their stand on the Djibouti agreement. Make no mistake about it Abdullahi Yusuf has the support of the whole state! The press release is almost finished and may surprise some; stay tuned.
