Puntland’s dirty Money to sabotage Somaliland Presidential Election
Thankful replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in Politics
They have to take the heat off the never ending punshing back of the elections. It's the first democracy that doesn't hold elections. I think they are preparing for the supposed one that will come in May, already finding and excuse. -

It's interesting how a tribal state like Sharkaroonland can so easily at the last minute(a month before), change it's election like it's nothing. When Iraq had its first one, every Sunni group boycotted it and there was extreme violece, they could have easily canceled or postponed it the elections. But they knew that photographing elections and having people going to voting booths were more important then the elections themselves. Everyone knew that they needed elections at all cost. Now if you look at Afganistan Karzai wants to have elections Quote "Karzai unleashed a storm of controversy Saturday with a decree ordering the Independent Election Commission to hold Afghanistan's second-ever presidential vote within a constitutional timeline instead of its chosen date of August 20." He's tryign to fast-track it and there is a fire storm. He can easily use violence excuse or anything else but you can't be a democracy if you don't hold elections and postpone them. Can you imagine the fire storm if he tried extended his term by more then a year? That's what the self-declared state Sharkaroonland doesn't get, its leader has extended his term a year and now even longer, so it's basically a democratic state that doesn't hold elections. Their leader Riyaale has been vice pres then pres and is refusing to give it up.

As long as foreign powers are that visible behind ''the president'' it is impossible for people like me to give full support to such ''foreign-created governments''. We've had how many oppurtunities to try and do it ourselves? Yet we couldn't. Somalis share so much in common but some still fight each other and now that the president hails from the south, he is still being threatened as well. Foreign powers are needed for us to form a government and get it working. Don't blame anyone but those killers who are attacking any government.

Najmudin ^LOl. Actually it is more of tribalism. We and they and them is the tribalism you just accused Puntland of promoting. Although I don't believe it had anything to do with tribes, because if that's how Puntland thought, they would have just broken away like Somaliland did as a tribe. So please don't accuse Puntland of tribalism and then say the PM job belongs to a Somali. So the government of Puntand stat of Somalia has worked hard for it's peace and to organize their resources and take care of it's people.

In from 1998 to 2006 he was part of the Puntland government. I believe from what I read on Australian news websites that he is a Ph'd student, but has not finished because of the presidency.
-
That's what everyone does in politics. You're right Puntland opposed it at first and made a lot of noise and in the end got what they wanted. But unlike our southern brothers, we didn't use bullets and missiles. They wage a war and got the presidency, Puntland used their voices (i.e threatening to breakaway, not to recognize the new government...etc.) If Puntland had stayed quiet they probably wouldn't have gotten the Prime Ministers post. It was quite brilliant to be honest. This tribalism claim is ridiculous, Puntland wanted to make sure they had a strong foot in the Federal Government and have someone who would be able to protect their interests. Can you blame them?

I agree that giving money away to criminals wasn't a smart idea. That kind of photo op just open's the door for lots of negative attention. From my experiences, those men will just use that money to buy khat or other harmful things. I don't understand what would give him the idea to give money out to criminals. There are so many single mothers raising their children and their brothers and sisters children at the same time. So many orphans, elderly, sick people in hospital and other poor people. There was so many more poor and deserving citizens that needed the money and who stayed away from crime. You are right, any other president in the world who gave cash away to criminals would have had a lot of explaining to do. As well President Faroole has given Amin Aamir so much more publicity and his enemies will say that the drawing must be true or he wouldn't have responded. Amin will probably come out with even more drawings now. These are minor set backs however and i'm sure he won't repeat them.

Yahoo MOGADISHU, Somalia - Somali legislators on Saturday approved the Canadian son of a former leader as the country's new prime minister. They backed the appointment of Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke by 414 votes to nine at a meeting in neighbouring Djibouti, the United Nations political office for Somalia said. Sharmarke's father was a popular elected president who was assassinated in 1969. Sharmarke, who holds Somali and Canadian citizenships, has held several UN posts over the past seven years. He has degrees in political science and political economy from Ottawa's Carleton University. President Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed named Sharmarke on Friday as his choice for the position after the collapse of the previous government in December. The men have the difficult job of bringing security and services to a country that has not had a functioning government since 1991 and nearly half the population is dependent on aid. Ahmed was a key leader of the Council of Islamic Courts that ran Mogadishu for six months in 2006. He was ousted when Somalia's weak UN-backed government called in the Ethiopian troops in December 2006 to drive them from power. Islamist groups including the powerful al-Shabab, which the U.S. State Department says has links to al-Qaida, responded by launching an insurgency that has killed thousands of civilians. Since Ahmed's election last month, he has vowed to part with his former extremist allies and pursue a moderate Islamic policy. But the insurgents do not recognize the government and have forced it to meet across the border in Djibouti. Officials hope Ahmed's credentials with the insurgents along with Sharmarke's international experience and family history will all help unite Somalis. Former foe Ethiopia on Friday expressed confidence in Somalia's new president. Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said Ahmed had assured him of his commitment to peace in Somalia and its neighbours. "We are happy that we got such reassurance," Meles said. "We believe this is a major trend, a political trend among the so-called moderate Islamists." -With files from The Canadian Press. Come on Waranle, Having a masters in Politican Science and Political Economy is perfect for someone who aspires to be in politics. Are you serious??? Don't get upset at the Prime Minister if people are adding Doctor to his name, he has no control over it. In Somalia many people with bachelor degree's consider themselves doctors, blame the media. Believe me, their are Sheiks out their that shouldn't be putting that title before their names!! The Prime Minster is more then qualified for his job both educationaly and job expirence wise. Please don't argue that a masters in Political Science and a degree in Political Economy is not good.

I don't know what the importance of his appearance is (maybe here in the west it's important), but I just saw 2 months ago and he looks exactly like that pic. This pic was definitely taken very recently.

They are the ones that liberated The "people" you are speaking for adeer. Ok fine, if they liberated the people, why are they now threatening President Sharif's government? Why are they still taking pictures holding guns and their fighters are still coverning their faces? If they liberated the people, why not put the guns down? They've now stated that they will fight the new government. These guys want war and need war to exist. I am confident president Sharif will lead Somalia to a more peaceful future insha'Allah.

another useless news! looks like another muddy print out designed by non somalis. tfg gotta go!! It's funny when people living in their comfortable lives in the west make comments like this. Absolutely no consideration for the people back home, why would you wish that they have no government? I don't think you'd be saying this if you had to trade places. It' selfish to sit back in the safety of the nation you are living in and hoping for no more government in Somalia. Those Al-Shabaab characters are the ones with muddy prints, they are the one's being controlled by outside forces. That's why they have absolutely no interest in negotiating at all and threaten war over and over again. Sometimes I think that they are just made up by our enemies. Their actions are like bunch of savages and it's mind blowing why they want to kill.

Excellent choice Cumar Cabdirashid is probably one of the most honest and generous men that i've ever met. Just incase some of you don't remember he is the son of the late President Abdirashid Ali Shermarke who was assasinated in 1969. He has work with the UN for over 16 years within and outside Somalia. He was also Somali representitive to the UN under the former President Abdullahi Yusuf administration. Make no mistake about it, the UN, AU and especially US encouraged he be selected (he was their number one choice). He has a understanding of international Politic's and is very respected, he'll be a good bridge between Somalia and the international community. I had the oppurtunity of meeting him in Nairobi this December, where he gave a speech on piracy in Somalia and how it should be approached. I really liked how he defended Somalia when he spoke of the circumstances that piracy arose from. Also, I know he has a master's degree and another degree in Canada (but I can't exactly remember what it was in). Very intelligent man. He is very qualified for this position and has extensive international experience. He has worked all over east Africa. (Not living in Somalia for 40 years is just another typical lie or that he was a cab driver.) It is true that he was shot in the leg while driving in Darfur in 2006 assisting the poor refugee's fleeing the conflict. I hope this is confirmed and he is selected.

Unlike Afghanistan in Somalia there are regional administrations that have brought peace to their area and are working to better themselves. Now the President of the country hails from the South and yet he is being threatened by the sames groups based in the south. It's disgusting, it's a never ending cycle of fighting and war. It has nothing to do with anything but control of the resources and to make money. These Al-Shabaab guys don't want any government who will bring order and who will stop their criminal activities. Sheik Sharif is an educated and good man, yet some how these guys are trying to villify him. There is similarities between Somalia and Afghanistan, however Somalia has more peaceful regions.

Qalbi.Adeyg, Right now President Faroole says that he will continue all the projects the former admin had. However, he was the most vocal opponent against the oil contracts that were signed and the person he named as director of oil is also very much against it as well. So down the road i'm sure he'll start changing it if not get rid of it. But it is not easy, because many are employeed and he must bring another source of employment and other alternatives before he can get rid of African Oil and their contract. There was never a government position for Oil and exploration in the past, so by getting rid of this company they'll be no point of having one, unless another company is found. With Puntland imagine being wrongly tarnished it will be difficult to find companies. By far the people who fought against the oil deals were those who were from abroad. But I never heard anyone say anything negative about the oil companies when I was there, people know that Range and African Oil are staying when almost every other company wants nothing to do with Somalia. Like I said, with all the negative news coming out of our country it difficult to find foreign investors. I think President Faroole will keep the Range and African Oil but change the agreements and other parts of the contract. He knows that they are staying when most companies would have left a long time ago. With the South fighting now, things will become even more difficult and security will becoming even more of a priority. We'll have to wait and see what happens. The President was definitely no fan of Range or African Oil. Xiinfaniin, Sorry but I never went there. I only went from Garowe up to Bosasoo on this trip. Every time I go to Puntland I want to take a trip to all those places away from the road but I end up never making up there.

Originally posted by Che Guevara: Hello Somalipride...Hope you had good trip. It was AMAZING ALHAMDULILAH. I am already saving for my trip back there this summer insha'Allah. I definitely know where my future is!!! I guess after constantly hearing the negative news while I was here, I was expecting the worst. I was delighted that it was all fabricated. Puntland is being built and I want to get in on it while things are still relatively cheap.

Hey Duke, i'll post some of the pics I took. I didn't take as many as I wished. I can not put in words how big bosasoo is, it is not the same city I left a couple years back. It has grown enormously. You can find everything you want there now. I remember little things like barber shops where very poorly maintained in the past, now they look like some in the West do. With real chairs and very clean, before there were none. There are eye glasses stores with professionally displayed products. Hotels are so much more nicer, Juba Hotels front area is very nice. Security is a lot tighter and there are places that will stop you and check that you have an up to date drivers book if you drive around. The stores are full of so many things and so many restaurants have good food. I know this may seem to like nothing to someone that has never been to the state, but if you haven't been there before or ESPECIALLY if it's been a long time since you gone to Puntland, you'll be shocked how it has grown. There are Somalis living peacefully there from every corner of the country. But when I was living abroad all you hear is the state is near collopse that things are terrible. That is far from the truth and it seems so many only focus on the negative news. With that being said, Bosasso seems to be growing far more then the rest of the state and I am worried that the other places will fall behind. The new president must trying and work with other area's and help them develop also.

Gheelle, T. You are right, there is a new chapter in Puntland. However, don't think Cade is history. There is a reason why they met on President Faroole's trip to Bosasso. You must understand how Puntland works, even though Abdullahi Yusuf is in Yemen he is far from history and holds very high influence. There is a reason why President Faroole named Cade as an advisor right away. Even President Faroole would never make a comment like you did.
-
It's funny bashing the old admin. When this new president is touring places that they built. There was no aiport to tour before the last admin, there was no live stock quarantine to tour. Even the port had no office building and now there is a very beautiful building there that the old admin built. In Puntland even the biggest critics of the old admin would never ever say that the old admin built nothing, they know how bossaso has developed and other major cities. The worst thing they say is that the old admin only built Bosasoo and not the rest of Puntland. If you went there and said the old admin built nothing, people would think you are crazy. Now President Faroole has been elected and I am confident he will do a good job and continue developing the state.
-
Because Kayse A.Digaale says so!!!! Forget about pics. We got to take his word on it.
-
xiinfaniin, Fair enough, I was not livid by any means just surprised. I do not believe that he will be an advisor for the exploration and suspect that it was a made up story, ment to bring discredit to the new government. I heard president Faroole say that he will be an advisor and many issue not just specifically one. I think the problems President Faroole and Gen Cade had in the past is over. I don't think it was ever personal.
-
I am here in Garoowe, I was also here in 2006 and can't believe how much this place has grown, I can't describe it. This place is developing. I went to the library and it was full of kids studying and reading books. I'll take pics insha'Allah. I would love to go to those places.
-
General Duke Deal, I start posting them. I haven't take ton's because most of the fuctions I attended already had so much media personal so I found it pointless take pics. But i'll take pictures of some of the beautiful hotels in Puntland and other buildings and some other functions.
-
Qalbi-Adeyg, that's exactly I ment. Especially the question mark Cadde as an advisor? , to me it seems to mean that it was something that was not expected or a surprise. To even ask the question seemed odd. If President Faroole names Col Abdullahi Yusuf as an advisor; which i suspect is coming. I personally would not be surprised by that at all.
