Oh since Somalis are so darn perfect, why don't u answer this? Does our culture not slice and dice women's private parts? Did our culture not wipe each other's clans out? rape the women and kill children in the process? Does our culture not have women who have husbands who don't work but they are on the welfare system with 10 and half kids? and what are the husbands doing in turn......maybe chilling at the local coffee shop or chewing qaad? gee, we are so darn PURFECT!

^ You need to get off her skin tone. You starting to sound like a racist there, buddy. Besides, we all know Somalis who are way darker than she is, but they are 100% Somali. I don't think we should be talking about the origins of her mother, and blame it on her. -
^ Pls don't act like a qaxooti before you put ur foot in your mouth. Masons can not be women. They do not allow women into their society. Why? Because I know some masons at my school. In fact, they have a separate organization for women (oddly, men can join that org too). Therefore Madonna can't be a mason. And no she is not my role model, but I do like some of her songs. So what? Alot of people still like Michael Jackson and R.Kelly, which seems more disturbing to me actually.

Some men are killers, some men are lovers, some men make music, some men tan hides of animals. Are we different as men, from women, or are we all basically human and trying to figure out how to live a life of respect on this planet? Why do greed and corruption affect us as humans? I agree. I move to remove the women's forum and replace is with the human forum ---for all humans. Any seconds? (From now on call me a humanist)

LMAO...sorry this is funny. I enjoy reading these "the world is coming to an end and bush is the dajjal" threads. Ps. Masons and Illuminatis are not even the same thing.

I dont have to accept pologymy because it is not obligatory nor necessary. I am not violating any rules in Islam when I do that, because I have that option. Islam regulates pologymy, it does not install nor tell men not to marry more than one. Therefore, with muslim men who don't find it acceptable to marry more than one wife, and don't end up marrying more than are committing the same sin as I am, IF I am committing such a sin. I for one am trying to make my word day faster as well, but I do not insult other people's "online/virtual" character.

Originally posted by Baashi: DA, Come again! what is your point? make it clear and concise plz? Let me help u here 1. Polygamy is valid but some men abuse it. 2. Polygamy is valid provided that it meets the criterion. 3. Polygamy is valid but I don't like it. 4. Polygamy is not necessary. Actually, here is my list: 1. Polygomy is not encouraged 2. Polygomy has limitations 3. In order to be polygomous, yuo must meet the criteria 4. Polygomy is not necessary 5. Polygomy is widely abused 6. Polygomy is not valid to me Er, Allah actually limited the use of marrying multiple wives. I find it unnecessary and if my man practiced it, I would leave faster than you can pronounce the name of the second wife. Am I going against the wisdom of our Creator, no. Because there is no requirement on my side to accept a polygomous relationship, just that a man can marry more than 1. So, again you are making me out to be this evil, anti-islamic, western feminist person is really not gonna happen in this thread. As to the character of the husband, in my case, I would not marry anyone who even considers polygomy. So to each, his/her own. Personally though, its insulting to the woman for the man to even suggest she is not good enough to be his wife and that he needs 1,2 or 3 more. Just my opinion though.

7 of 9, I am in complete agreeance with you. What most MEN don't understand is that polygomy is a pre-islamic phenomenon. Islam happens to put a cap or limitations on polygomy because of prior abuses to the system. Now, polygomous relations are allowed, but not encouraged otherwise, there would be no such limitations (beyond the 4 wives rule). These days, many men are violating some of these sanctions, therefore are committing sins. For instance, I know of a cab driver who has two wives in two different countries. The wives and kids obviously can't be supported with that sort of income, so guess who the wives are depending on for funding? No surprise there. Also, because you can have more than one wife does not mean that the 1st wife has no say. and going behind her back to get a second wife, because "you can" and "islam allows it" does not make you a good pious muslim. It makes you real Foolxuun (as 7 of 9 puts it) in your character.

That's it, I'm moving to Hong Kong!

Aeryn, Nothing wrong with your statement at all. I think you put it better than I did actually. I was only responding to Gediid's last part of that statement where he says that if someone did say that earlier that the conversation would have went another way, which it clearly didn't. Gediid, How much clearier did you want it? Alle, The east vs. west thing is getting kind of old. What exactly do you mean by a "Western-minded person". Are you reffering to geography, religion, culture, values, etc? Alot of us were born, raised and educated in the west, and we happen to be muslims, and we happen to be "westerns". Does that make us any less muslim in your eyes? There is absolutely nothing wrong with speaking out for women's rights at all. Even in Islam. You should read up on it sometimes, it might make you a little less chauvanistic in your views
-
I guess it depends on who says it.

Originally posted by Gediid: ^^^^^A very valid point indeed. If someone had raised that earlier then the debate would have had a very different twist to it. I made this point earlier. Back to the topic, Are there Ahadiths that you think are authentic sources for Muslims? Baashi, this wasn't the topic. (sorry for the one-liner ) Ameenah, The first step of "being about it" is to find talk about the issue. Since this is a forum, there are limitations to "being about it", don't ya think? Aeryn, I completely agree that the mosque should be central to the community and should therefore be a reflection of that community. Raula, And there's a hadith that says that when muslims are talking about a muslim issue, the angels are protecting them. And its human nature to question if something does not seem logical.

Originally posted by Baashi: An advice don't you take my posts as personal attack for they are not. Don't you personalize it and if it seems that way to you is the inevitable conclusion that gleaned from the aggregate posts. I personalize when people insult my intelligence. You can look back at the first paragraph of your second to last post. You got personal there. I do get offended when posters do that because I do not go around talking about their level of education and their ability to reason. I stick to the points they are trying to make and argue/agree there. If I made any of my posts personal, please direct me straight to it. Back to the topic at hand. Sunnah is infallible. That is what the Prophet said and did in his time alive. What is in the books (Hadiths) are not infallible. One main proof of that is discarding all those other hadiths that the prophet was to have said, which according to Bukhari and his research stated that it was not trustworthy. And if that is not a reason why its infallible, why don't we take a look at the different types of Hadiths (i.e. sahiih, da'if, etc). Now, when I as a woman am to told that I dont get as much ajar as the next, I need a strong proof of that! That means, the strongest proof there is, which is the Koran. Simple as that. Now where did people get the idea that I am against the Nabi and his teachings? If we are going to use the "ajar" hadith as an example, then we need to know what ajar is. That is extra deeds that a muslim receives for doing something that is required exceptionally well, doing a deed that is not required but recommended, etc. That means you are not committing a sin for praying at the mosque at all. So using that argument in this discussion (about women in mosques) is kinda weak, don't you think?

Originally posted by Gediid: For Islam to be even considered a dynamic religion, I think we have to have a revised or updated editions of the holy Quran that keeps up with the ever changing world or a new prophet. That will never happen since Allah has already sent his last prophet and his word in the quran is his last to us humans. What ever time it was set for is immaterial here but the underlying laws in there are eternal. The Koran is very dynamic, as it is meant for all muslims till the end of time. Even the Koran can be interpreted in so many ways, and that also makes it dynamic.
