Is he in or out? The real question should be, whether I am in or out. lol. I watched a video of a lady giving birth in one of those required health classes we had to do in Middle School. Yeah, that's when I decided that even I wouldn't be there.. On a more serious note, exactly why shouldn't he be there? A simple act like cutting the ambilical (?sp) cord or holding her hand can be the strongest indication of how much love and respect are in the household and increase the bond between man, woman and child. Oh, but I guess this is a foreign western concept.

You of all people don't like anything about somaliness..I say this because I have crossed path with you in the past and almost every somali speaking MEN in SOL have. You have a different problem than the one we are talking about here so please save your speach for those that are getting to know your personality on SOL. DA I didn't write and read somali when I came to Canada in 1991 and know I could even write poetry.. and you know I understood the importance of my language. oo YEA if a person a somali person doesn't know his mother thung language, YES THEY ARE WEEK when it comes to being somali and they need to learn their mother thung language. But you would say as usualy "what does culture and language have to do with being a somali"..I would say "every thing so go and educate your self in your own language".... I'm somali and I don't have to learn my language aint gonna work in my point of view. I believe every somali person should be able to read and write somali and speek perfectly. And if you can't do that because you think is "reer badinimo or an naccesery" then please ha sheegan somalinimo. PS. DA. you said you know your language, then how come you have never wrote in somali? is it may be you are a shamed of it. If you know it respond back to me in somali please. I'm sorry if I sound rude but i'm only speeking the truth..... wareer badanaa!! Baro, You sound a bit on the defensive. Did I say anything to receive so much contempt from a baro?????   Walaal, first of all grow up and learn the proper way to discuss issues like grownups do. If you would go back and re-read what I have said, you will see that I said there is NOTHING wrong with speaking Somali. If you choose to. There should also be nothing wrong with speaking ENGLISH. If you choose to. Now, why is my Somaliness and whether I could speak/read or write in Somali being questioned here? It seems like you are personalizing the issue, when there is no need to. I could speak the language but unlike some nomads, I don't rub it in other people's faces and cuss at them in a way YOU know they won't understand. And I also choose the language in which I can articulate myself the best. And that happens to be in English. I guess that makes me a weak person. That is, if your opinion even mattered to me
-
Waryaa dude, I know my af somali, thanks very much. And I've been raised in many places, but so what if you can still speak and write in Somali? Are you more superior to those who can't? Dawaco, I was under the impression that a majority here (excluding the political section-which is a different site altogether) typed in English. I could be wrong though.
-
Admins, you are genius! Why do I say this? Because for one, not everyone who is Somali can speak/read/write in af Somali. Many of us were born, raised and currently reside in many different places in the world, and I feel that we need to be mindful of that. Lately, there has been people here who decided they want to write in Somali (nothing wrong with that) but to people who they KNOW can't respond or even understand what is being said to them. And that doesn't seem right. Nothing wrong with using the language, but its the way that its being used against those people and the arrogance of people who feel that if you are Somali, then you must be perfect in reading/writing/speaking/joking in Somali, when that's not what really makes you a true Somali. But hey, its a matter of opinion. To those who relevantly want to type in Somali, its a good idea to have your piece of the net as well. It's a compromise and it just might work. So good job to the Admins. Khayr, oh, how cute. You are jealous of the females on SOL? This is the highest compliment really.
-
After a brief haitus from SOL, I see that battle of the sexes is still raging without my presence. One can conclude that I am not the cause of such disturbances (although I may add feul to fire). Now that that's out of the way...I would like to say yes, I strongly agree with items 1-3, and mildly agree with the rest. Did someone let the dog out of its cave? hmmm, anyone?

If you read the article properly, it says they lead women-only prayers, such as those in schools or any place where women gather.
-
People from Somalia are called Somalis. I don't know why others call us Somalians, because it's not correct.
-
^ Maybe you need to lose the hat. Mine is rather simple actually: I lack money I think cold-hard cash solves many many many many problems.

Such propoganda....

QQ, Well obviously I don't have an issue with the edition because it was not in error. Too bad someone aired our dirty laundry but in a way I'm glad. We need to shape up in this country, otherwise others will use it against us. Actually, if you read carefully, I posted the link up for people to read the article, but I never used it as my backup evidence. You need to go back and re-read the entire thread again. But I, unlike you, don't look at someone's last name, conclude that the author is a) jewish and b)pro-Isreal. Glad you admire Abu Malik though. And the fact that he said the same thing as I did. But never in a million years would you give me credit for what I said in this discussion. Wonder why?
-
To those whom it may interest, I was recently listening to a lecture tape by an Imam Abu Malik, an African American from Brooklyn who is quite popular in these parts, speaking of this very SAME issue. I was shocked, amazed and intrigued that he said THE EXACT SAME THING I SAID...don't believe me, buy the tape, I will provide the info to those who request it. He said that that is a shame that we (men) run women out the mosques, those same people that only fill up the mosques on a friday. To my surprise, he said that if he attends another mosque where they don't have adequate space or no space for women, he will go and open a new one (amazin', init?). He added that he has attended mosques where the men have AC big spaces, and the women are outside praying under the hot sun, and if they were ever so fortunate, they get the second floor, where they can't see or hear anything. He concluded that his daughters will not be treated like a second-class citizen in America. Guess it isn't just us feminists talking about it.
-
I think my reading and writing is pretty good. Putting sentences together...well it depends on the day really. Am I the only one who gets dizzy looking at a paragraph written in somali..I don't know where to begin...so I usually just don't. I say we go back to our original letters.

LMAO. I get it now. There is a crusade for the Somali men coordinated by the boras. How cute! Feebaro, uhm, there are so many holes in your post, walahi I don't even know where to start. I am from Toronto and let me tell you most of these women claim to be single but have husbands overseas, across the border or living somewhere else. Sure they are the single parent in the home, but as far as divorce, I do not think so. Can you tell me for what organization/company you work for? and where did you get your statistics? And what about he 911 system? the only people I hear complaining about this are men....who think its alright to smack their wife across the head. If I had a nickle for everytime I heard that weak argument. Yes there are many people who are more intelligent than I am. Sure, They are older and had more education and experience. Matter of fact, more than you even. What's your point? QQ, Actually, I didn't talk about any other culture and make them saintly. You just chose to see it that way. No culture in this world is perfect or better than the other. I am just less arrogant than you, that's all.
-
Originally posted by Feebaro: So sis please except if some one tells you something you don't know. How about if it was the other way around? Actually, whatever I said the Hadith is not a new, go read text about and do your own research. I am just trying to carry on a discussion here about Mosques and the sisters' section. QQ, I would respond if I can understand your Somali.
-
Gediid, Was anything I said a lie? I don't think so. But posts like these make us seem like we are saintly and do no wrong. And it' my pet peeve really. And nothing against the Somali culture, the bariis and the moos thing is my personal favorite! Shoobaro, I was born black and will forever stay black. I don't know what else you were implying with that post.

North American Somalians have you seen K'naan?!

Lander, You know, we must've been watching MM at the same time cuz we caught the tail end of it where they show the name of the artist and such. But I think the name of the song is Sobaax, not Bobaax. -
Does private school solve the problem? I really think that public schools would not be in the state it is if parents became involved in their childrens' schools. I mean, doing more than attending PTA meetings.
-
^Then why are we putting down other cultures? How does that saying go "Let those who cast the first stones...."
-
Il Capo, I see you've changed your tune a bit. My point was that every culture does its f*d up thing. **inserts shock factor** even somalis. We are not God's gift to earth. We do have our share of wife-beaters, child-molestors and murdering thugs. The poet just proved my point even more. Why would you give a black man getting beat down by somalis guys as an example? Doesn't he realize that it makes us look even worse? QQ, But peurto Ricans out numbers us by.....ALOT. That doesn't change the fact that many Somali women are under government assistance, and alot of them are married. Yeah, we should all sympathize with these post-professional somali men who sit at coffee shops during working hours. Because obviously they can't go back to school like other people, get different degrees and get a decent job to support their 7 1/2 kids. And can you give me statistics that somalis are more likely to go to universities than other black people? The last time I heard, it was Nigerians.
-
^Obviously the blame goes to the Afro-American man who tried to accomodate these violent Somali men who will beat a brotha any chance they get. Obviously!!!
-
ladies, would u go back to somalia to live with ur husband.
Reality Check replied to Qac Qaac's topic in General
Personally, heck no! If he has "dano" there, let him go and take care of it. But I have no business going there, unless I want drop everything that I know, have or invested in to go back to a land that I hardly know. Besides, if one is married, they typically talk about stuff like this ahead of time, and see how their partner feels. To be honest, the life of a nomad is really not the life for me.
