I forgot it, but what was the title of this topic? I don't know what the poster is trying to achieve, but it was unnecessary. I believe the best way to leave a forum is to just leave, without announcements or deleting topics/comments. Anyway, life will go on, as this forum's life or continuity isn't dependent on members quitting it.

Most have made no plans, as they haven't yet grasped they're sitting ducks in the West. Events and/or circumstances could lead them to concentration camps, deportation to a third country or Somalia itself. Those who are smart have long ago made plans.

Originally posted by Caano Geel: ppl why are you deleting your posts? I think it was done in a moment of heated emotions. They have decided to severe ties with SOL. I think they might regret, because SOL was part of their daily lives for a number of years. I agree this kind of deleting is a nuisance for the continuity of topics. I think Admin should consider disabling that feature, at least after a time (like a week) of posting topics/comments.

Megan, what can you tell us about life in Nashville, TN?

I remember Wikipedia's definition of Islam in the early days of the site. It wasn't a favorable definition, but I can see now it has improved much.

Originally posted by JUSTICE: where you born in autumn?? if yes , then you have to read this article. apparently you are a genius after all and if you want to have kids in the future u have to plan for the right time for the pregnancy. Why would someone want to be a genius? Is it good to be one such? Is it better than being a regular? I don't even know there's the notion that life as a genius is something to admire or aspire to. What I believe is, being normal and leading a normal life(style) is the best. Being a genius is being different or anomalistic. Being different is difficult.

Originally posted by Ducaqabe: 50% of what you studied in school won’t help or directly affect the work you do in real life. That's a higher percentage. I would say about 15-20% of what you study would relate to your job. If we take an example of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, about 50% doesn't relate to the study of Computer Science; humanities, social sciences, extracurricular activities, etc. And about 30% is purely theoretical. As I said before, education today is inflated and diluted, for the scope of maximizing profits.

Originally posted by OG_Girl: I am not a fan of any of these practices.. So, a Shia has to be a fan of التطبير in order to practice it? You have to like or admire the act of cutting yourself in order to do it? No belief in it required? To truly believe in Allah (swt) to truly understand the martyrdom of Imam Hussain then you only need to look deep within your heart the pain will be there without the showcasing of blood. I don't see what understanding the martyrdom of Imam Hussain has to do with belief in Allah. The two aren't interconnected.

I would think Canada has a similar law.

Originally posted by bilan: what kind of advertisement is in this thread? A commercial link or site is a potential advertisement. The poster of the link might be advertising in the hope those who live in or visit the city where the mall is located could become potential customers. The link has already been posted in the topic about best Somali website design. I tend to agree with Admin.

Originally posted by FARIID: How far should one compromise his Islamic Value in order to please westerners or can one really Please these people at the same time hold fast to his religion'? It's not necessary and there's no need to please westerners. It wouldn't make a difference. At least when you don't, they know you're genuine. The only Muslims they can at least trust are Islamists, unlike mercurial Muslims (liberal, moderate, progressive, etc) whose motto is: We side with winners. A Muslim should at all times side with haqq, and never compromise with his/her deen.

Originally posted by Abdi2005: ...about people who left shiism http://www.wylsh.com/ Quite an interesting site. From a preliminary browsing, I have for the first time learned the term التطبير (though I have seen the action on TV). I could never grasp the reason why our Shia brothers/sisters would cut themselves. I mean, this doesn't make a sense. I don't know how widespread the practice is, but hope they could abandon it altogether. This link from the site asks a good question about 500 students in a school, how 496 of them have failed, and only 4 succeeded.

Originally posted by Shirwac: Post here members that you think lost credibility and why, nothing personal. This is a virtual world; there can't be members who have lost credibility. As for the real world, there's nothing funny about one who has lost credibility. One loses it for a host of reasons. It's easy to lose credibility, but difficult to rebuild or reacquire it. It's human to lose credibility. Circumstances or events can lead you to lose it. Someone who lost credibility needs guidance & counselling, not people who make funny stories or jokes about him/her. P.S. An image that size as your signature hurts the eyes.

Originally posted by Jomaana: im educated and broke like a joke ... i dont mind marrying a brotha who has a degree or a diploma and broke like myself. Ive been through school, i know how hard it is to find a job and i know how hard it is to save. Profits in education are only made by the institutions who provide it. Education today is inflated & diluted, and it's meant to be so in order to maximize the profits. You keep hearing about people who upgrade or update their education, those who change or shift careers. All that, just to get a decent job. The truth is, there aren't enough decent jobs, and the few there are can only be get through clouts. It's really hard for the locals to get it, let alone immigrants who daydream about it. The sad thing is, the tens $thousands spent on a degree is almost worthless in one's homeland. Let's see; an international economist, a nuclear scientist or an aeronautic engineer seeking a job in a stable Somalia. You get the picture.

Originally posted by bilan: Rudy, if you are white then maybe one day you can be Bill Gates and Micheal Dell, but if you're non-white and no college degree then no one will open the door for you, college degree opens the door. Not necessarily. This might to a degree apply in the West, but there are many successes in Africa, the Middle East and elsewhere where a degree played no role whatsoever. It's possible that you have/had a relative without a degree who is/was a successful businessman. Originally posted by Endeavour: Can a sister not be sophisticated and humble at the sametime? Is there a rule that says the two dont go together? Part of being sophisticated is about acquiring a certain lifestyle, a set of standards, expectations, auras & arias. I believe a sister can be sophisticated Islamically (manners & education), and be humble at the sametime.

Originally posted by bilan: not all men are obsessesed with controling You're implying men have controling powers. Years ago, while visiting a friend at Dixon, I remember him telling me about his friend of good character who was ordered by a court to not come within 50 miles radius of where his wife & kids live. No, he was a complete innocent, and his heart was broken over the issue. I wonder about this friend of my friend, and what become of him. Originally posted by Fidel: Does it conflict with your pre-existing beliefs about women and education? Do you think ignoring such studies, and reality, would make them go away? Maybe for the first question. Thinking doesn't make go away anything, except thoughts inside a thinker's mind. So are studies, and reality. It's solutions that could make go away something.

Originally posted by Jomaana: Is it the lack of motivation ? Is it the lack of finance? ( We all have this problem) Is it the system? I think it has to do with employability. Immigrant women are generally preferred to be employed as educated individuals than their male counterparts. I have seen many male immigrants with higher degrees (a few with PhD) who drive a cab or do other jobs that require a lesser or no degree. Believe it or not..the educated men i see have either a superiority complex, personality problems or there is just something not appealing about them. The uneducated ones have it all BUT the degree. What a dilemma. A dilemma, indeed. I think, the losers here are the educated women, as they generally stay unmarried way past their prime time. I have seen many who have aged to 40 and beyond.

Originally posted by Fidel: These numbers in the article are in the United States. Any idea what the ratio is in the expatriate Somali communities? What about in Somalia? A father to two girls (with hopes of being a grandfather someday), this is very disturbing indeed. I wonder what it will be like in 20-25 years. Men outnumber women in the expatriate Somali communities. The men are in high demand for marriage, because they usually prefer women in Somalia. They prefer the humble ones over the sophisticated in the West. Nowadays, the men keep those humble women in Africa (where it's safe in Somalia, Kenya, others) & the Middle East (Syria, Egypt, Yemen, others), less the women become sophisticated if taken to the West. This is for practical purposes; life in Africa & the Middle East is affordable, the women there have less chance to become independent or rebels, and men (even Westerners) usually prefer a docile partner. Women outnumber men in Somalia, where men are always in high demand.
