Puntland parliament approves election committee + multi-party system
SayidSomal replied to Emperor's topic in Politics
it is all well and good to follow the good example set by others - but is not beneficial to follow the example that does not even work for those that set it. e.g 3 party system, majority of the election commission being chosen by the seating president and things of that nature plus all the other previous things done by SL and then copied by PL, like deportation of fellow somalis, rendition etc. etc. -
tell me about it - but don't forget you have the power to hold your head accountable on how he/she allocates the money - apparently they will have consult or even give control on how best to deploy the money to your department. Did you watch bbc panorama last night - john ware at again?

Co-Sign the Letter Here - thanks Dear Ms Neesom Last week Det Supt John Larkin, head of the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit, claimed that the activities of the English Defence League were radicalising young Muslims and pushing them towards extremist organisations. It was a story that your own newspaper covered quite prominently on Saturday 20 November. A few days earlier, a small group of Islamist extremists burnt poppies on a West London street. Across the road were a slightly larger number of English Defence League supporters, including their leader, Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, who was arrested for assaulting a police officer. On my HOPE not hate blog I wrote that these two groups were two sides of the same coin of hate. I said that they fed off each other and each needed the other to justify their own existence. Like Det Supt Larkin I argued that hatred breeds hatred. We believe, however, that the media are partly responsible for feeding this hatred and none more so than the Daily Star. We have examined the past few years of your newspaper and found a depressing litany of negative articles about Muslims in Britain. Many of these articles over-exaggerate the importance of tiny Muslim extremist groups while ignoring more mainstream Muslim opinion and use the words of these extremists to smear an entire faith, while on other occasions inaccurate or slanted articles whip up fear and mistrust. Freedom of speech is correctly the cornerstone of British society but with freedom comes responsibility and we fear that your reporting is actually encouraging a growth in Muslim extremism in this country. We believe that the Daily Star regularly oversteps the boundaries of responsibility in reporting issues relating to Muslims and in doing so increases the mistrust and fear of people towards them. This helps to create a dangerous backlash among non-Muslims which in turn feeds groups such as the EDL and the British National Party. We then have the situation, as described by Det Supt John Larkin, where anti-Muslim activities increases support for Islamic extremist groups. It is not our role to dictate what goes in your newspaper but we would urge you to take a more responsible and balanced approach. We believe that extremists such as Anjem Choudhary and Muslims Against Crusades are no more representative of the Muslim community than BNP leader Nick Griffin is of the white community. We would urge you to highlight more positive articles about the Muslim community that might increase understanding between communities and so reduce hatred and extremism rather than continually focus on negative stories. I look forward to hearing back from you. Yours sincerely Nick Lowles HOPE not hate

Xaaji - send that pakistani the following story and say that you understand where he is coming from A man is taking a walk in Central park in New York. Suddenly he sees a little girl being attacked by a big dog. He runs over and starts fighting with the dog. He succeeds in killing the dog and saving the girl's life.A policeman who was watching the scene walks over and says "You are a hero, tomorrow you can read it in all the newspapers "Brave New Yorker saves the life of little girl"The man says - "But I am not a New Yorker!""Oh then it will say in newspapers in the morning "Brave American saves life of little girl'" - the policeman answers."But I am not an American!" - says the man. "Oh, what are you then?" The man says - "I am a Pakistani!" The next day the newspapers prints headline "Islamic extremist kills American dog. Connections to terrorist networks are being investigated"

The release of the Chandlers by Somali pirates proved a rich vein for Have I Got News for You. "They wanted a ransom but no-one paid it so they put them on eBay," Paul Merton began. Damian Lewis added: "According to Max Clifford, the Chandlers could make £1million from TV interviews. A successful book could treble that. With a movie you could go up to £10million... then they would be worth kidnapping." Finally, Lewis revealed the cabbie who negotiated the Chandlers' release divides his time between Somalia and Leytonstone. "So he spends half his time in a lawless, poverty-stricken wasteland... and the other half in Somalia." who in SOL lives in Leytonstone?

Originally posted by NGONGE: Pulling numbers out from thin air has become a national sport around these parts. I mean only yesterday did a certain Nomad tell me that Qardho's population (including the tourists) was 1/3 of Puntland. Ma run baa? Haa, waa runtiis - except - it is excluding the tourists. if we included the tourists - then Qardho's population would be equivalent to 2/3 of SL's population. on serious note about the difference between the 'DH' and 'R' - here is my contribution: Dh waa dhexdhexaad - distinguisher if you like - but only when it comes to last letter or middle letter of the word - i.e. never at the beginning. it becomes dialectic when it is over used - to replace the 'r' whenever possible - which is incorrect. R waa reer lajhad - it more of dialect and it confounds words when they are read as stand alone - i.e without the context. other than it is as valid as Dh. so stop making this north vs south. -

Norf - you reminded me something similar - drunkard Arab on speakers corner in very late 90s - he stood in between a Muslim brother (Pakistani) and Caribbean Christian and he mock them mercilessly. i can't repeat most what he said either - because it was sacrilegious. but some of them were along the lines of "no Jamaica prophet smoking ganja with white girlfriend - no Paki Prophet *while he pretended dance like bollywood star*
