  2. Police have made safe a suspected car bomb in the heart of London. Officers carried out a controlled explosion after reports of a suspicious vehicle parked in The Haymarket shortly before 0200 BST (0100 GMT). The immediate area was cordoned off while police examined what they described as a "potentially viable explosive device". There are unconfirmed reports that gas canisters were removed from the back of the car, close to Piccadilly Circus. The government's emergency unit Cobra has called a meeting and the new Home Secretary Jacqui Smith is due to attend. One police source said the bomb was a "big device" and posed a real and substantial threat to the area around The Haymarket, which is in London's theatreland. A witness reported seeing gas canisters being removed from the car, believed to be a silver Mercedes, at around 0400 BST (O300 GMT). Bouncers from a nearby nightclub said they saw the car being driven erratically before it crashed into a bin. They said the driver then got out and ran off. Dozens of forensic officers were today poring over the scene, which was covered by a blue plastic police tent. Scotland Yard said detectives from Counter Terrorism Command were investigating the potential bomb plot and will be checking the CCTV in the area. A spokesman said: "Police were called to reports of a suspicious vehicle parked in The Haymarket, shortly before 2am this morning. "As a precautionary measure the immediate area was cordoned off while the vehicle was examined by explosives officers. TRAVEL DISRUPTIONS Piccadilly Circus tube station closed Haymarket closed between Pall Mall and Piccadilly Circus Buses diversions in the area with delays of more than 45 minutes Heavy traffic around Trafalgar Square and Charing Cross Rd Coventry St, Whitcomb St, Shaftesbury Ave and Cambridge Circus closed "They discovered what appeared to be a potentially viable explosive device. This was made safe. "The Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command has launched an investigation." Police say The Haymarket is likely to remain closed for some time and severe travel disruption is predicted. 'No intelligence' Piccadilly Circus Tube station is closed and trains are not stopping, while local bus services are being diverted. The BBC's Daniela Relph, at the scene, said the heart of London was completely closed off and police officers were concentrating on keeping people away. People are unable to get to work Thousands of commuters have been unable to get to work. Professor Paul Wilkinson, a terrorism expert, said a passer-by had tipped off the police and officers would be concerned they did not have advanced intelligence. Intelligence sources said they were keeping an open mind on who was responsible for the car bomb. "All options, including the Irish, are open at this stage," said the source. Defence Secretary Des Browne said: "It does appear to be a very serious incident. "My first reaction to this is, thank God that we have police and explosives experts who can make these devices safe, and the arrangements they appear to have done, and that nobody has been injured." Extra security measures have been put in place at Westminster, MPs and peers have been told. Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6252276.stm I wonder if it was another crazy as*s mock up, just to scare people. The buses were so packed on my way to work, because everyone was too scared to get on the train I was wondering about, till i got to work and checked the bbc.

  4. "LIVE EACH DAY AS ITS UR LAST" " Nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than you think." "Our greatest glory consists not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." I cannot remember who said any of them.

  6. ^^Why whats wrong?? As I mature I've learned that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is stalk them and hope they panic and give in. I've learned that no matter how much I care, some people are just assholes. I've learned that it takes years to build up trust, and it only takes suspicion, not proof, to destroy it. I've learned that you can get by on charm for about fifteen minutes. After that, you'd better have a big willy or huge boobs. I've learned that you shouldn't compare yourself to others - they are more screwed up than you think. I've learned that you can keep vomiting long after you think you're finished. I've learned that we are responsible for what we do, unless we are celebrities. I've learned that regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades, and there had better be a lot of fun and faith to take its place! I've learned that the people you care most about in life are taken from you too soon and all the less important ones just never go away.

  15. AN Asian man rejected for a job reapplied posing as a less qualified Brit with a double-barrel name - and was offered an interview. Qamar Malik, 48, called himself R. Lloyd-Hilbert, sent a worse CV, and even added a year to his age. He had a "positive response" by email within two hours, he told an employment tribunal. Yet two days earlier the same giant multinational had told him there were no vacancies even though he knew there were. Now Mr Malik is claiming racial discrimination against engineering firm Amec Utilities. The father-of-four was born in Pakistan but has lived here since he was five. He is a qualified civil engineer with 25 years' experience. Mr Malik works in Canary Wharf, East London, but wanted to return to Wales where his family live. He told the tribunal in Cardiff he applied to Amec's office in Treforest, Glamorgan, after they told him on the phone they had vacancies. Two days later they wrote back saying there were no jobs available. He said: "I decided to put them to the test and dreamed up the name Lloyd-Hilbert to see if he would be luckier." After the interview offer "I had to be sure a vacancy hadn't suddenly cropped up so I applied again under my real name - and once again I was turned down". He added: "It seems they didn't want to know me under my real name because it sounded foreign. "I believed these things were going on when I was a young man looking for work almost 30 years ago but I didn't believe it was still going on today. "I'm not looking for compensation, I just want to stop this discrimination happening." Amec denied discrimination but the tribunal said there was a case to answer and adjourned the hearing. The building and utilities firm employs 20,000 worldwide - 12,000 in Britain. Chief executive Samir Brikho is a Lebanon born Swedish citizen. A spokesman said later: "We vigorously deny discrimination. We have a very proactive equal opportunities policy." Source: mirror.co.uk

  24. Blair is on his way to Buckingham palace to resign. He received a standing ovation, and many plaudits, at his final PMQ a little while ago. I despise Blair with a passion, he has the blood of so many innocents on his hand, he has sold out his country to crazy a*ss Bush. Blair is a formidable and very successful politician, i doubt a greater insult can be levelled at any man or woman. He has led the party as PM for ten years and three election wins. Nobody in history has done this for the Labour party. He is extremely intelligent and articulate. Interest rates and unemployment are a fraction of what they were when Labour took the reins after all those years of disastrous Tory mismanagement. Blair is probably the greatest ever performer at the dispatch box, he destroyed a succession of Tory leaders. We also have his governments to thank for the minimum wage, tax credits and several other things. He is of course a fraud and a liar. He practises deceit and *F***e*r*y with ability par excellence. He should be tried for treason and war crimes, but of course he won't be. Instead he will be made some kind of Middle East envoy. Imagine if you've seen your family blown to bits !!!! and One of the main reasons you cry yourself to sleep every night is now being rewarded for his crimes against humanity. ERRG I've heard Brown talk the talk, first i need to see him walk the walk. Britain cannot expect to be forgiven for their actions, but they can start to make some sort of amends, including Troop withdrawals from Iraq and Afghanistan as a starting point. Telling Washington to f*uck off and making decision based on reason will be a second.
