Israel Condemns Vatican’s ‘Concentration Camp’ Remarks. ROME — Tensions rose between the Vatican and Israel on Thursday after Israel condemned a high-ranking Vatican official for comparing the Gaza Strip to “a concentration camp.” "Look at the conditions in Gaza: more and more, it resembles a big concentration camp,” Cardinal Renato Martino, the president of the Council for Justice and Peace, said in an interview published Wednesday in an online publication. He defended his comments in the center-left daily newspaper La Repubblica on Thursday. While noting that Hamas rockets into Israel were “certainly not sugared almonds,” he called the situation in Gaza “horrific” and said conditions there went “against human dignity.” Israel on Thursday harshly condemned the cardinal’s use of World War Two imagery. “We are astounded that a spiritual dignitary would have such words, that are so far removed from truth and dignity,” said Yigal Palmor, a spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry. He added that it was “shocking to hear the vocabulary of Hamas propaganda coming from a member of the church.” But he denied that it would cause a diplomatic crisis. It “doesn’t change the nature of relations between Israel and the Holy See,” Mr. Palmor said. The Vatican sought to downplay the cardinal’s remarks. The Vatican spokesman, Rev. Federico Lombardi, called Cardinal Martino’s choice of words “inopportune,” and said they created “irritation and confusion” more than illumination. While calling the cardinal “an authoritative person,” Rev. Lombardi added that “The more authoritative voice and line would be that of the pope.” Indeed, the cardinal’s remarks overshadowed an important discourse that Pope Benedict XVI delivered on Thursday, in which he called for a ceasefire in Gaza and decried “a renewed outbreak of violence provoking immense damage and suffering for the civilian population.” “Once again I would repeat that military options are no solution and that violence, wherever it comes from and whatever form it takes, must be firmly condemned,” he told diplomats accredited to the Vatican. In unusually direct remarks, the pope looked ahead to “crucial elections” coming up in the Middle East and called for dialogue between Israel and Syria, the “strengthening of institutions” in Lebanon and a “negotiated solution” to “the controversy surrounding” Iran’s nuclear program. Israel’s ambassador to the Vatican, Mordechay Lewy, said events Gaza had “no connection” to plans underway for Benedict to visit Israel, the West Bank and Jordan this spring. The Vatican has not yet officially announced the trip. In the past, some Jews have seen the Vatican’s approach as more sympathetic to Palestinian suffering than Israeli security. Mr. Lewy called the pope’s speech “equivocal.” “The language and the expectations of the Holy Father and the scope of his interests are different from those of a politician,” Mr. Lewy said. “In practical politics, I’m sure Israel wouldn’t have existed if we would have acted without any force.” http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/09/world/middleeast /09vatican.html?_r=1&em

The Gaza Strip has been turned into a "big concentration camp" by two weeks of Israeli bombardments, a senior Vatican cardinal said in an interview published on Wednesday Cardinal Renato Martino, the Vatican's justice and peace minister, made his comments in an interview with the online Italian news website Il Sussidiario.net. "Defenceless populations are always the ones who pay. Look at the conditions in Gaza: more and more, it resembles a big concentration camp," said Cardinal Martino. He said it was in the interest of neither party to carry on fighting and urged both to show more "willingness" to hold peace talks. "If they can't come to an agreement, then someone else should do it (for them). The world cannot sit back and watch without doing anything. "We Christians are not the only ones to call this land 'holy', Jews and Muslims do so too. The fact that this land is the scene of bloodshed seems a great tragedy," he added. Israel's offensive on Gaza has killed almost 700 Palestinians and injured 3,000 since Dec 27, according to Gaza medics. Aid agencies have declared a "total" humanitarian crisis in Gaza, owing to the ailing stocks of basic food, water and medical supplies. The pope is due to visit Holy Land sites in Jordan, Israel and the West Bank in May. Source

JB Did I tell you my cousin who went to visit his wife got arrested walking around in Hargisa. Something about no one knowing him and him looking suspicious. I laughed my head off, and worse thing is his Somali is broke so he could not tell them anything. He was detained and freed after a while when the family rescued him. I don’t think he is ever coming back to Hargisa, you guys are arresting everyone who does not fit in, looks and act different with a foreign passport. Take it easy, not everyone is a terror suspect. -

^^WHy should she, and why is everyone acting like being unmarried is the end of it all. What is shocking that she is so old or that she is not married? Cabdiyo she had a lucky escape and easy life, while the 107 yr old women escaped being beaten, dominated and abused by a man, while baring endless children and breaking his back for him. Stay single any day. Haada IF she gets it wrong, by then time it goes sour, she'll be dead. The later you get married, the less time you have to spend together and the less drama you have to go through. The lesson is leave it as late as possible, then put an ad out and see what all the fuss is about.

There is no point talking to you Dukey, for someone who talks so much about one clan, you know very little about them, and your mind is not open to anything other than your own propaganda and YOU refuse to do your own research and educate yourself, so remain in your ignorance and continue. Most people in SL falls into at least one these categories; 1) They are secessionists 2) They are Is* Clan 3) Or they supported SNM during its time (we already had this discussion that SNM no longer exist, you are just prolong their relevance and doing free advertising for them) So safely concluded that you hate 90% of people from the north. Also we already know from your previous outbursts in recent times that you think people in Southern Somali are nothing without your atheeros dictatorship and you often refer to them like second class animals capable of nothing but fighting and killing. So only thing you want with them is dominance and subjugation, using them against each other to maintain power and use their resources. Sound like Sayid Barre without the planes and weapons all over again- take your unity to akhiro and keep it moving. I'm out.
-
Forget what I am Duke. You have not answered my question. WHAT Do you mean by SNM?? Yes more contradictions; if it has nothing to do with the general public, then how can in the same sentence say "the secessionist feeling is strong in the triangle and led by the SNM clan militia" Who makes up the public?? is there two publics and who the hell is the SNM?? Just answer the question, because I think you confused yourself. I don't mind if you insult whole groups of people IF you knew what you were talking about, but haada you don't know where you are going or coming. Adeer they are secessionists, it’s not a derogatory term and they glorified the SNM. All this political correctness is bull; this group has benefited from the demise of the state, and are now claiming other groups lands. Thus if Somalia is divisible so is NW Somalia. We are not only human beings but the same people, but unity should be more powerful than division and if one feels selfish and paranoid then don’t expect people to just follow you, your path is not sacred and you are no more powerful nor stronger than others. Do unto others as you would want them to do to you.. EDIT: I just saw your above reply, don't bother answering, I get it. You hate a specific clan. Okay save yourself the the trouble of using codes, just iska sheek their clan name, waaxab haa is confuse gaaranini, it is okay. P.s. Still full of contradictions, you hate them, but call for unity.
-
^^^You just contradicted yourself by saying it is not a clan, and then saying it is people from the triangle group (i.e. a clan) So WHo is the SNM you are talking about?? Are they people that were formally part of the SNM, or maybe their dads, are they people who just happen to be from the said clan.

I actually missed the start of the rally for Israel, sorry, for "Israel and Gaza", but having got there two hours after the start time I thought I'd catch the finish or see some signs that there had actually been a demo. As it turned out there was almost no sign of there having been a rally except there was a stage being dismantled and I eventually noticed a placard produced by the the organisers. It was fixed to a lamppost and the message of the rally, "End Hamas Terror" was facing the lamppost itself and on the blank side there was in print the words "LOST CHILDREN". Presumably an assembly point for children at the rally who were lost but possibly a sick joke based on the fact that the war on Gaza has resulted in the loss of many children, never to return to their loved ones. I remember the zionist demonstration in support of the re-invasion of the West Bank back in 2002. There may have been 50,000 people in Trafalgar Square for what was billed not just a demo to support Israel's actions in, for example, Jenin but its right to exist. Four years later, zionists in the UK organised a demo to support another zionist campaign of slaughter, this time in Lebanon. That was said to have mustered maybe 4 or 5,000 people to a rally at which the Chief Rabbi famously said, "Israel you make us proud". Well this rally seems to have been a flop given what I saw today and given the way the BBC and the Jerusalem Post have reported the event. Cop this from the Beeb. The headline, Thousands call for Mid-East peace, set the dishonest tone for the whole report. Ehud Barak has said it is a "fight to the finish" against Hamas and the Board of Deputies said it was "hurt" by a hoax that suggested that the Board wanted a ceasefire and a "political solution". The expression "thousands" implied many in attendance but when compared to the tens, possibly hundreds of thousands, of anti-zionist demonstrators, the turnout was a flop. Then look at the film. No film of the square itself, only close-ups in the crowd. Ok, they made the mistake of showing children dancing with their Israeli flags as if the clear absence of peace in Gaza right now was cause for celebration but apart from that inadvertent display of zionist ghoulishness the report was deliberately misleading. Curiously, the report on the BBC site looked very similar to the report on the Jerusalem Post site except the BBC had the wit to pretend that the zionists were demonstrating for peace and not simply for Israel. The Jerusalem Post report is headed Thousands support Israel at UK rallies indicating that the Post, unlike the Beeb, doesn't expect its readers to be as appalled by a display of support for Israel at this time as visitors to the BBC site. Like the BBC, the Jerusalem Post wants its readers to think that the rally (or in the JP's case, rallies) was a success. It wasn't, and on a weekend when the Jewish leadership in the UK had disgraced itself, the community as a whole can take some comfort from those who voted with their feet by staying at home.
