Lucy Kibaki said a woman minister would have prevented the accidents. A public row has erupted in Kenya between President Mwai Kibaki and his wife over the handling of fires last week that left almost 150 people dead. Mr Kibaki was forced to defend the security minister after his wife, Lucy, launched a blistering attack on him. The first lady accused the minister of insensitivity towards victims of the fires and failing to prevent deaths through public education. She said a woman minister would have prevented the tragedy. Kenya has declared a week of mourning for victims of the two blazes. The first, in a Nairobi supermarket, left at least 25 people dead. Police are investigating reports that doors were locked after the fire broke out to keep looters away. The second happened in Molo, after an overturned road tanker caught fire and exploded, killing at least 120 people. Crowds had gathered around the tanker to collect spilled fuel. Mrs Kibaki took exception to comments by Security Minister George Saitoti that Kenyans could learn a lesson from the disaster. "How can dead people be taught a lesson?" she asked, after visiting victims of the tanker blaze in hospital on Monday. The tanker caught fire as people were trying to collect its spilt fuel. The first lady accused Mr Saitoti of failing to anticipate such accidents and tackle them through public education. "If it was a woman member of parliament in the ministry of internal security, she would have stopped this accident," she added. But the president appeared to disagree with his wife, assuring Mr Saitoti of his "full confidence" in a speech two days later. Mrs Kibaki has a reputation for volatile outbursts and this one was clearly embarrassing for the president, reports the BBC's Peter Greste in Nairobi. In 2005, she sparked a media furore when she stormed into the offices of a leading daily newspaper in Nairobi to protest at its portrayal of the first family. The first couple's row also reflects public anguish over the two fires and the debate about who is to blame, our correspondent adds.

^^^I did not read the article, bookmarked it for tonight. I'm just commenting what Resistance said and in general.
-
^^^You mean those in so called "sajadah" or the shadah or bismillah?? I have, but don't see how a man made snow man can be compared to it. Resistance: I've not done any real work for MPAC for over 2years now, not even a contributing member anymore, so I only see things once they are published like everyone else. The article is already half way down the bottom, each day they post three new articles, so by tomorrow it will be in archives. As for boycotting the, does not work, they don't get any private or public funding, they are just a bunch of passionate people working from home, who are on target most of the time. But at times their lack of Islamic knowledge comes through. LOL What flag? HAHAH
-
^^^Aaah my bad then, No, waa still tasteless joke. What is funny about a snowman with four people behind it In fact my teacher would say it is bordering on shirk assimilating idol worshipping.
-
Resistance, what if I told you that the first wave of arrivals did better in education and work wise than the new generation who were born in the UK? The new generation just lacks determination and drive, they are babied too much and people make far too many excuses for them. The first generation realized the opportunity they were getting and grabbed it with both hands. The new ones have everything on a platter and still underachieving, attribute this to the difficulties they face is exaggerated. Abu, even so, we are still on the wrong side of the scale.

^^Err that is what I am saying. The boys in the picture are MPAC, in fact two of them are key figures. The image is taken by MPAC, the guys are not kids having fun in the snow or default, they are above 20year old adults trying to make a point about mosques. As I said the connotations are huge and although their intentions is not to mock the Salah, in the end that is what they ended up doing.

^^^Okay, MSN it is then JB, meeshu is a bank, not a draw, you cannot open it every five minutes to put $5 in and then take it out again. It is not a game There is no way it is for most people, it is for people who have a surplus or a salary coming in. It saves people like you carrying cash around. P.s. So are you going to close your Dahabshil account @ JB
-
^^What do you mean that is not the case?? please explain. Education figures are only inaccurate in one area, which is that they tent to excludes second phase refugees, i.e. Somalis who have other nationalities like those with other African passports or other western citizenships. Looking around university campus is not an indication of how well we are doing as a community or how many in education, because although it may seem many tot he naked eye, it is not representative of the general Somali population, which in the UK is said to reach 93,000 families.
-
^^^How rich are people in SL getting?? LOOL @ Warehouse. Mabye just dollars, in any case the banking system for the few fat elites I think waa big gamble, lets see how it goes baal. JB my PM is open too

Serenity: I was not talking about the article or the author, I was talking about the posters threads since he graced us. I don't have anger issues, I just don't see the point of sitting around complaining, it does not change anything. By all means if it makes you feel better knock yourself out. Resistance the figures are against us, in the UK, Somali children have the lowest performance rate even in primary school, getting basic levels of 3 or 4 in year 9, when the average is 5/6 in certain areas Tower Hamlets, haringay and most of the South London. If they are doing so badly at such young age, the university entries is going to be low. Sayid Somali can post the link on the current performances. I had a the government link for last year as well, I will look around.
-
^^^Sounds like you enjoy playing games. I'm a straight forward person, and cheap shots just belittle your own capcity dear
-
^^EVEN Ibti aah...err when was I classed as special needs yaa waalad
-
^^AAh, I see @ Nuune. Ngonge if that is your objection I can send you the researchs for that, both government figures and academics. Somalis in the UK are even more financially excluded than the new arrivals such as those from eastern Europe.
-
If the post is pre determined to be from a particularly clan/ region, then it does not matter how long he takes to announce or how hard he thinks, his options are limited and chances are it won’t be the best man for the job.

^^Which part old man??

^^Faan ka iska taayah. JB, Dahabshil worried eh, when did you become their official spokes person. I hear they are expanding the banking facilities where the money is, the Middle East. In any case their main business is exports, remittance and construction. The banking facilities is just waax koordsi. Nuune, the banking industry is in its infancy in SL, it is like post office account oo kale, there is little money in it, rather its short term storage place for business people with little surplus with small charges. The competition is only useful if the banking system is offering the financial services such as credit, insurance and mortgage which NEED competition to benefit both the bank and consumers and which are long term. But right now, it is the smallest market and really does not need competition at all. I’m glade it is a foreign investment that is taking the gamble of expanding that sector. Somalis attitudes towards the financial system and services have not changed or mordernised, even in the west, Somalis are the most financial excluded from the financial system.
