North they have some guy Ali Macow or something on Universal TV two days a week. People call him and tell him their problems. Only thing is I cannot figure out what his specialty is, Somalis asking about EVERYTHING. His title is "Doctorka maacadanta" What on earth is maacadant? He has a clinic in West London, moved from Germany to here. A camera test? as in cystoscopy (hang on did you say she thinks a test is a treatment to make her better?) That’s the other problem, what your friends/ family say is more acceptable to them than what a qualified specialist is trying to tell them. It is heblaayo said this or that. It is sad because originally he will give them all his time and deal with the directly, now it is like a flying visits and mass communication via phone/ letters with the junior doctors to keep updated.

^^Yes but people in our community do not say "I don't understand" They just say "YES" okay and signed the papers. Then complain after the fact. Consultants are always rushed, allocating about 5-10mins to each patient at any given time. Some times patients don't even meet the consultant/ Surgeon till the day of the operation, dealing with his register all the while before, even if they do the consultation cannot last for hours. So it is always handy to have a basic understanding of your condition and take a translator with you. Medical jargon can be difficult for most people to understand.

Dabshid: Not enough to cry over his death like he is my family member or matters in my life, his music is still there for anyone who likes his music. He was talented, but I’m not really crazy over him or any musician, can only recall maybe 4/5 songs of his, never owned a album of his nor would I see him or anyone in concert. Why?? All seems like such waste of time and money. The ere of celebrity worshipping in full swing with MJ.

Wooho, Malika, can you just tell us what the long and short of it is?? It is very long!!!

There are no short cuts, you have to knead the dough for a long time, don't add the oil at the start (your blog says all the ingredients at once) once you've knead the dough with just water for about 20mins, add the oil and knead for a fruther 5mins. Let it stand for 5mins (you say 30mins in your blog, that is a very long time!) The last tip is when you divide the dough make it really small portions, so you can roll it out really thin (otherwise it will be as fat/thick as the kimis/ sabayad) Can I say that while doing it in stacks saves time, it won't produce the best wrap as you have to keep it thick so it does not stick together. So unless you are making mass production, roll out individually and make it as thin as possible to end up with really thin, light and fluffy wraps (it is good when you fry also as it won’t absorb the oil too much) Hope that helps. I really like your blog, too bad I can't follow directions in cooking.

another is a man who told our family he's experience he had with the Drs in London. he had non stop pains from he's chest and they said to him you need operation. on the day of he's op, he was in a room on he's own. whilst waiting for he's op because they said to him to wait for 2days in patient. as he was in he's room he decided to get a drink from the vending machine on the end of the ward. as he was walking he came across this white man who was sitting on the chairs, they sat beside each other and after talking for a while. the white man said i'm visiting my dad who's in hospital he's having op tommorow, he's getting a new kidney. they said is from healthy young in he's earlier 30's african male. the somali man was shocked to hear. for some weird reason he thought they meant him, a he fitted the descripeton. he got up, went to he's room, got he's things and run out. I heard this same story too. I think the problem is one of miscommunication and misunderstanding. One of the consultants I work with was vilified and sued by a Somali man and his family for removing a kidney. The patient (Somali man) is saying there was nothing wrong with his kidney and he was not told it is being removed. The consultant is saying both I, the anesthetist, and the register explained the procedure to the patient and he signed and consent form. In addition the reason he had a complete nephrectomy is because he had renal cancer involving the whole left kidney, so he is kidney was not fine and here is the histology to prove it. To make a long story/ case short (it was going on for almost 2/3 yrs), while the case has been going on, the man’s cancer came back and spread, now involving his remaining kidney, liver and pancreases. His family has since dropped the case and last I knew he was on his death bed, the cancer too advanced to be treated. Subxanallah. The doctor who heads the renal unit is a really nice guy, but he's been the subject of some commotion from a Somali families. To the point where now he sends Somali patients on to one of the junior doctors, because he is so scared about the problems they make for him. He often tells me he likes Somali people, apart from when they are his patients because they are so paranoid.

At times, insecure individuals depend on the way they dress to make them feel good or noticed or heard. Free choice is when you still carry on doing something you believe in despite the criticisms, the condemnations and the censoring gazes of others. To wear the veil is their choice and they hold onto that choice despite the opposition that seeks to alienate them, not just from hate mongers and exploiting men but from some members of their own sex who seek to take away their liberties and choice because of their own prejudices. If anyone is inhibited it is not the veil that inhibits them but society's prejudice. You say you get angry at times who you see niqab’s, is this just not based on your own prejudice rather than what the niqab prevents them from doing? People with similar views as you who think they are helping these “helpless sisters” (particularly if they are in legislative positions) need to study the burqa and reasons why those women who wear it do so prior to consider recommendations or even discussion about it. Otherwise it is just another example of intolerance toward Islam. People who want ban the niqab/ burqa are the oppressors who force women to adhere to dress that pleases you by making a mockery of ones you do not like. Welcome to the Taliban of the West. We really cannot be lectured by Sarkozy who allowed his wife's nude pictures to be auctioned off about the 'debasement' of women. It is an oxymoron, It is probably difficult for him to comprehend modesty-pride-shame and dignity. Shakina, thank you very much indeed. You said that the "number of niqabs in France have grown in the last few years as a direct result of the hijab ban", do you have any proof to back your claim? No problem, thanks for providing the platform. There is no statistics to prove it, it is just a correlation which is being use as a possible explanation by the anti-ban camp. However since the rise of niqab’s is being reported by the pro ban camp, also based on eye witness perception rather than statistics, it could be fabricated to force the issue into a platform. It may also be that because it is become an issue, people notice it more, rather than a huge rise like they are claiming. Also, you appear to be speaking for the motion instead of against it, because you voiced your concern over the growing number of Muslim communities without representation, no legislative body that has their interest at heart. Could this admission on your part hold true for the rest of the crowd because of the wide resistance to assimilation? Would you say this is a fair assessment on your part? You see, I have always blamed the events that face Muslims both in the west and in the Muslim countries on our failures as individuals to get involved in a cohesive manner, or to even take our head out of the sand. Often Muslims sleep walk around, living on the fringe of society, not explaining themselves, nor founding the institutions to defend their basic believes. The veil is being labeled as an oppressive prison, a form of debasing women...wont at least one woman who wears a veil speak out and tell the French citizens whether this is the case or not. Wont at least one woman stand up and become political in an effort to make sure the veil is not banned? It is a manifestation of their failures and correlated with why time after time they are targets of new legislations. If these women don't get political then it is very likely that a law will be passed banning the veil. I do not support the motion for it is wrong, but it is self inflicted Maybe banning the veil is a will make them realise the importance of defending their belief if they want to continuing living in that society., Muslims who say "no politics" will only learn when their mothers, sisters and daughters are forced to go out naked. But by then it will be too late. Bottom line is regardless of whether the burqa is voluntary act or otherwise, I am NOT willing to support a ban, just so we as a society can dictate to a minority group how to practice their religion to please us or make us feel comfortable, nor I am willing for them to be oppressed or force to wear it or forced to take it off. I was against the Taliban for forcing women, the shabba and Islamic courts for making their first task in a failed country about what women wear, for the same reason I oppose this man. Let each women pick her own clothes, without some man in power shouting from the roof top that he is going to save them from what he sees as oppression. ... not really a west Vs the Muslim as some would have us believing, including you? Different camps? "Obama reaches out to the Muslim world" (BBC1) "Obama seeks 'new beginning' with Muslim world" (The Guardian) "Reaction to Obama's speech to the Muslim world" (Associated Press) "Barack Obama speaks to the Muslim world" (The Economist) In politics at least, as perceived by society, progagted by the media, it is always West Vs Muslims. This issue is exclusive to Muslim women, even Muslim men should not have huge say about it, let alone an international debate, about how to save burqa/ niqabi women. It is also a matter of opposing ideology which automatically makes it about OUR views and THEIR views. We are looking in different directions from a different point, when it comes to matter of the deen, for it is NOT ABOUT US as individuals. It is about religion Vs everything else [including the west and some muslims].

ALL deaths are sad not just the rich and famous ones, some people are going on like this man had any significance in their life, you should feel sad, shocked and sorry for your fellow Somalis and Muslims who are dying in the thousands each and every day. FOUR threads and 5 Pages on this one, on a former black, possible pedophile, seriously. I see others make dua for him and madness on other forums. There are serious issues with priorities and morality in this world. What about the ones who are oppressed, raped and murdered muslims? do they have to become celebrities for you to take notice, do they have to do a little pelvis shake for you? People are naturally meant to die, but not get raped and ignored. Where is the loyalty yaa muslims? Over 100,000 Somalis died between 1990/2009 and I see Somalis crying about MJ. Uuuf calek pis*sed off. Redirect the passion peeps.

SalamAliekum, I am going to throw my two cents in the mix. Firstly I am against the idea of banning the niqab, hijab and/ or burqa. There are several reasons why I am against this; which in short include; 1)In dictating who can wear what and where, a society loses its diversity, basic freedom. More over this is a calculated principle which targets the Muslim community, a minority in itself, and more importantly niqab’s which make up an even smaller minority within the Muslim community. 2)There is not valid reason, up till this date, there are no data which suggest that niqabs in France or else where have harmed themselves or others in the process of covering. 3)This issue is not about forced covering, women in a society “free society” have chosen to cover, it is insulting to their freedom of choice and intelligence as human beings to undermined them and state that they are not even fit enough mentally or otherwise to dresses themselves or pick what to wear. 4)Where does the dictating stop?? In a few years will it be compulsory for women to wear skirts above their ankles or knee, or must their cleavage be hanging out? Should high heels be allowed?? Where do we draw the line in these orders? Can a Jew grow his side burns? Can a Sikh grow his hair and wear a turban? How about a cross? How far does the state go in interfering with peoples values and believes before it becomes too much. 5)His whole argument is based on the fact that these women being too eager to obey ( I guess he means their men) and there to reduce the significance and moral worth of these women. I am sure he is not worried about the position of these women in their society and their significance or status, rather it is attention grabbing and an attempt to marginalize the Muslim community in France. IF he was so worried, he will not be trying to victimize them further and insulting them by trying to rule what they could wear. Apparently he as a none-Muslim man, thinks he is in apposition to firstly speak for us as Muslim women, and secondly tell us about how we feel or the position we hold in our society. Apparently he also thinks that we are Muslim women, even in the west cannot or would not have a mouth or the skills to get our point across, instead we need rescuing from him of all people. Apparently we are too ****** to really know what we want, and when push comes to shove, what we want to wear or do is irrelevant, he knows best and it is about time he forces his ways and views on us. The number of niqabs in France has grown in the last few years as direct result of the hijab banned, like many others before him, he is starting to find out, that when you push someone far enough into a corner, they will not suddenly be drawn to you and trying to become like you, they instead react strongly back and cling to there ways, leading to a radicalization of some sort. It is the same impact the anti terror laws have had. Banning won’t work, nor is it the ways to go, France can either become a nanny state and dictate to EVERYONE a dress code, put it cannot continue picking on a segment of the society (Niqabs) who make up a small percentage of the national population. Lastly can I say that the real shame is on Muslims who let this get so far, how come none-Muslims feel that they have a say over our religion and can dictate to our women what to wear. HOW they be telling US what the niqab means or stands for, clearly we have failed to educate them and ourselves, and as result we are now seeing the continuous nit pick of our deen. Hardly any Muslims stood up in defence of the headscarf when France banned it, now we have supports of the banned of the veil within the Muslims. As Muslims we refuse to speak or get involve din Politics, and this makes a walk in the park for laws targeting muslims to be passed by people who neither have any knowledge about us, nor make an effort to find out what the Muslims are saying. You do not see the same laws forbidding Jewish or Christian practices so why Muslims? Why is no one ranting about nuns' habits being "degrading"? It is because its easy to kick the Muslims because anaga yaa iss duuleney. Andre Gerin, Communist Party legislator who joined 57 others on Wednesday in signing a motion for a parliamentary committee to study possible legislation to ban the wearing of the traditional costume in public said (Timesonline) Today ... we are confronted by certain Muslim women wearing the burqa, which covers and fully envelops the body and the head like a moving prison,"….There are more and more of them, not only in big cities, but in rural settings as well ... We have to break the silence of this country's political leaders on the matter."……. So YES LAzygirl, it is about US and THEM, the veil is being vilified and Muslim women insulted and bullied, all in the name of freeing them. My conclusion is that policy-makers cannot randomly legislate aspects of Muslim observance and life, without doing the same to Catholics, Protestants or Jews, however France 6 million Muslims (as the second largest religion group in France) by failing to breach the gap that creates fear and resentment have allowed themselves to become a walking target. I hope you understand my points, sorry bit rushed. Salamah

C& H  You don't have to explain/ justify yourself to anyone, your education is for you, allah haa kuu baarakeyo. Lets not making this personal, temper on hold. Marx: I went to an event on Friday on this issue, they had a section of Somalilanders; identity formation and shifting values of the new generation. I'm surprised you missed it. It was presented by Migrations and Identities Interdisciplinary Research Group, and at least two of the speakers touched on this area. You are heading the semi correct path, but just need to drop and shift a little. I'll send you the link for the abstracts inshallah.

Originally posted by Sabriya: It is just a job, and she is sinning, but what makes her sin bigger than everyone else? There are Muslims who drink, sleep around and go clubbing every weekend (most ppl in these places are drunk and on drugs) yet Muslim people go there. Are they better than the one who decides to work there?? I bet you even know some people who go to such places, you just don't know [big Grin] ka aada iyo ka ka shaqeeya wa isku kay mid. bari uun ee ii dhihin nin ayaaa wax igu sameeyay..i wouldn't feel sorry more like you asked for it... same applies with the girl who walks outside with a mini skirt. I wont turn my nose up and say something abt her, it aint my business. But, if she goes a guy harrassed me or whatever...I personally wouldnt feel sorry for her. you dnt put all you offer out there and then expect nothing?obviously guys will check her out..and some will do things they shouldnt do...at the same time am not saying a man is free to do whatever if a girl chooses to walk around naked...or almost naked..its just abt me not feeling sorry for her more like u asked for it... salaam Aaaah Sabriya, Dear sis you are wrong for several reasons, I will point out two: 1)Men who harass women often are disgusting human beings with over active imagination, whilst I agree that as an opportunities he might harass a drunk women, generally they are looking for easy target. I have been harassed many times, and I cover, from sick people rubbing themselves against you on tube, to guys flashing me, to people following you and enquiring about “what you have under there”, one even had the cheek to say, “I like covered women” It gives my imagination more space to imagine things. So a sick individual is just that, a sick individual. So please don’t make excuses for them, and say their victims are asking for it. 2)Covering is a protection for perverted eyes, but it won’t protect you from someone who has decided to target you.

^^^As I said it easy for you to judge for you have been sheltered from such thing sby your family and Allah. Many of the eastern Europeans hardly get jobs and those that do are very lucky whatever the job, at least they are not held and sold in the sex industry. If your family paid all their savings to get you to another country for you to send money back, I could not find a decent job kuu miidi meeyso. It is just a job, and she is sinning, but what makes her sin bigger than everyone else? There are Muslims who drink, sleep around and go clubbing every weekend (most ppl in these places are drunk and on drugs) yet Muslim people go there. Are they better than the one who decides to work there?? I bet you even know some people who go to such places, you just don't know Oh I have a Q: When you see a Muslim girl in a mini skirt/ dress on the street what do you?? No one forced her and she is wearing it for fashion. Do you turn up your nose??

^^^Err she did leave, she just also decided to sue them, so they don't do it to others. Many Muslims people work in unislamic line of work, from working in a bar, to banks, to meat processing plants, owe shops which sale qamiri and making a profit on it. All we can say is may allah guide them. I think it shows that however weak muslim she is, she has a bit of Iman which if she was refusing fro religious reasons has shown through. Hopefully she can build on that. It is very easy to look down on people who did not have a formal education. This women is from Bosina, it was not the best place to be Muslim when she was growing up and they tried to appear least Muslim to blend in, hence she did not benefit from all the maddresses we went to and environment we had. P.s. I think it was a case of sexual abuse rather than anything to do with her being Muslim. Just the media twisting things.

Waa vain, They should do something worthwhile with their time, then complimenting and writing poems iyo songs iyo cheesy text messages. There is only so many times I could say “aaaw that’s so sweet”
