Saalax;987902 wrote: Somaliland and Somalia also have distinct culture and cuisines. Niiko, dhisow, walaqo, cambuulo, muufo etc is unknown in Somaliland. Firstly, most of the Somalis in the South like the ones in the North and West are nomads and have cultures that are almost identical barring a few regional differences. Secondly, part of these regional differences are the dances. For example, in the West they dance Dhaanto, in Waamo they dance diisow/saar, in the north Heelo and like that in all the other nomadic areas. Thirdly, niiko is from the bantu culture from the Somali bantus, not the Somalis. Muufo is an Arab food that has been introduced to the Somalis just like baasto, bariis etc. Cambuulo is a galley dish that I have seen eaten by every Somali I know. Some also have it with their rice for supper. It along with popcorn used to be eaten by the old generations when they were doing their "xus" and is part and parcel of the nomadic culture.

And in anything over which you disagree - its ruling is [to be referred] to Allah . '' i have white friends that tell me we all look the same'' . why don't black friends tell you y'all look different? why don't somalis tell you y'all look different? but because ''your'' white friends tell you y'all look different, it must be true, miyaa? Admin I have a question and a few suggestions. Your timely reply is expected, not requested (): Question 1. What does the green bars under the users name stand for and how do they increase. How is it some nomads who have been here for years, who have a lot of posts, a lot of rep power have less green bars than (without mentioning names) uppity upstarts who started contributing yesterday. Ma beel beel baa lagu baxshaa? Suggestion 1. Can you add a like button if that's not too difficult. I know you can rep a post if you like it but then only the poster will know you liked that post. By adding a like button (and having a tally of likes say under the users location) everyone will know. Suggestion 2. Can you make the results of polls open yacni show who voted for what option. I.e. Cadale, Alpha voted Yes etc. I would like to thank you in advance for your swift reply.

Building a vocational school is excellent. I'm surprised no one thought of it before. At Somaliland's low stage of development, I believe majority of their education budget should be aimed at vocational schools and not universities/traditional education. Tinkerers, mechanics and engineers are more needed right now. I remember how useful the Garissa poly-technical college was in bringing people out of poverty. Poor, illiterate women would come and they would be taught useful skills like using a sowing machine. They in turn would then set up shop in their homes or in the town centre if they can afford it and start earning money. No aid dependence and they can afford to send their children to school. I know women who started off that low and after hard work were able to buy farms, improve their houses and educate their kids. Vocational colleges are the way to go. Xirfadaha ha la barto.

Safferz;987718 wrote: Who is a Somali? To which Somalis does southern Somalia belong to? And has it not been in flux, historically? I edited my previous post to add that the irony of this discussion is that the Somali Bantu may very well have been in the parts of southern Somalia they are associated with longer than the Somali nomadic clans that lay claim to those territories. We know that some Somali Bantu have been there as early as the 10th century AD. Since when have Somalis 'owned' land, in the sense of the patrimoniality which claims ownership over territory? The colonial state was the first to impose that (with the exception of feudal Ethiopia, I suppose...), and you too are using a European gaze in thinking about property and rights-in-land. Nomadism has never used that logic. Finally, why is it so difficult to accept - recognizing their histories of enslavement and social exclusion - that the Somali Bantu are as much a part of Somalia as the northern pastoral nomads, or the coastal merchants and fishermen? Somalis are the ethnic group that reside in the Horn of Africa. They have lived there for thousands of years. The Somali bantu came to this land after the Somalis. The South belongs to the clans who settle there. Somalis own land in a shared-clan sense. Clan A has exclusive rights to this territory and Clan B doesn't. Hence the totality of all the clan lands make the Somali homeland. (In my opinion it is this approach that the Somali state should have been based upon, how we always knew it). "Northern Somalis" also live in the deep South. The Somali bantus are a part of Somalia today, but the issues they face will sadly never disappear as the differences are just too stark. Integration is impossible.

Burahadheer, the ladies in the video look like normal Somalis I see everyday, in fact some of the sisters here are finer. But why are you giving me the impression that you're a very ugly man if they seem so beautiful they're not Somali beautiful to you?

Safferz;987703 wrote: So what does this mean then, Haatu? It's the implication of the terms home/homeland, what does it mean for a Somali Bantu to "go home"? The fact is that most Somalis consider the Somali Bantu to be outsiders within, of elsewhere. At what point does a group become 'of' southern Somalia? This is what I meant. You must've misunderstood. I am merely saying the poor sods where forcibly removed from their homes centuries ago. We should now do the humane thing and return them to their homes Southern Somalia belongs to Somalis. It can't belong to any other group because it is a land already owned.

The last part of your post is confusing. Bal elaborate.
