The way the message is delivered is as important as the message itself. In one of those Somali muxadaro tapes I heard this guy talking about the hijab, and he went on to talk about bad Abayas, and he said 'Qaabkoodi dhan baa kuu muuqdo, ma waxas baa cabayad ah? Ilahey ha ku gubo!' . I mean really, you're not going to get anyone's attention by cursing them to hell fire. No doubt sincere wadaads who act on what they preach and do so in a kind and appropriate manner exist, but unfortunately most that I've come across were off putting. I particularly can't stand young 'seef la boods' who are obsessed with the status of women in Islam and in particular women’s dress sense. Out of all the important things they could be focusing on, they worry about hijab. p.s. Cara you're wicked.

Eid Mubarak All. Dabshid & Me, don't be so dismal. Eid is for celebrating. If you have a mosque in your town to pray in surely there must me a Muslim community there? Spend some of the day with ppl who believe in God and are up for celebrating. Work is not an excuse, or if you must at least do something in the evening.

Ours was a lavish dinner & dance at a 5* hotel. This is the 1st Xmas party I've attended. I have never seen such ridicules dancing, it was pure comedy.

You will never be a great writer or bestseller if you're in it for the money. It's a lot more difficult than it looks! A good book isn't written just by sitting down and hammering it out on your laptop. You have to do lots of research. Develop your own style, find your voice on paper, produce an amazing story that will take your reader out of his world for few hours, etc. etc. I would advice you to read what is currently a bestseller and to really think about why the ordinary John would read your book on his commute or the avarage Jane read it on the beach. A Somali book would limit you unles your characters' struggles are universal. Mind you, a lot of trash has been published.

Nephy, this ‘we are first generation’ is getting too tiresome. Yes single mothers and children who have no other option deserve it, but our community are experts at ‘milking’ the system. Most don’t realize it’s a form of slavery to be on welfare if you can avoid it. What amazes me though is why keep having kids you can’t afford? I dont know how they can afford all of that. As for your question, it’s not worth the snitch. They will both be arrested and the kids will be put in foster care. So in the end it will be the kids who will pay for the parent’s greed. Can you live with yourself if those kids got abused in care or lost their faith or got separated? Allah is watching them they will not get away with it. Pray for them that they get out of their deceptive ways.

Interesting. I think we shouldn't forget that a huge chunk of the Somali population lives on the kindess and genorosity of their brethen abroad who send them money every month. It was only last year I read that in Minneapolis alone $75 million was sent to Somalia over a 5 year period.

Ngonge, I tell everyone I don't do cards for environmental reasons. As for parties I like to avoid them as much as possible as they are alcohol fuelled & I hate the way ppl change when they get tipsy. I have to attend our office one, I intend to be there for the dinner and leave before the free alcohol starts to flow.

It's unfortunate that some parents think they own their children. What's also sad is that they expect their kids not to be influenced at all by their environment, that's like throwing someone in the ocean and threatening them not to get wet. Surely there is a huge difference between having a wild, immoral even child and a dead one? Allaha u naxariisto the poor girl.
