I agree with most of the stuff Rahima said. Sure there are bad mothers but the vast majority are trying to hold it all together. Lazie, in regards to being an emotional absent parent, may that just be a cultural thing? Weren’t a lot of parents raised to not show too much affection to their children? Especially boys? Besides, a mother can do a lot for her son but to teach him to be a man is not one of them. Furthermore, things like talking to your children is something that has to be established from a young age, not suddenly when your child hits 15, agian, from my observations it seemed the norm to ignore kids. Ibti great, it's Friday, bit too hyper for my liking. I know people will call this blasphemous but I’m not a great fan of Arabic. I would only ever learn it if it furthered my religious knowledge somehow. Speaking multiple languages is not a big deal, we’re all ex-refugees, hardly anything to shout about.

I would rather perfect my Somali than learn Arabic.

Cl, I agree, parents have to be quiet specific, certain body parts are No go area. I can understand how parents might find this uncomfortable. I'm afraid keeping an eye on your kids and ruining a bit of their innocence to protect them is necessary, besides, kids know a lot more than we think these days. My 3 year old nephew is as smart as a 5 year old. The sad truth is there is only so much parents can do, I guess paranoia and keeping your kids close will have to do.

If they killed/gave life sentence to every child molester who was tried in a court then children would really be safe. p.s. CL, parents would do better to tell their kids what child abuse is and to speak up against adults who attempt to handle them in such a manner, explaining threats those adults may make etc. It’s not always convicted criminals who molest.

12-14 is a good age to start experimenting with cooking. I suggest you train your boys too. The way the wind is blowing you don’t want them at your house with their black bags. You think you might be sparing them but sooner or later they will be running around cracking up meals for a woman who calls them ‘honey/darling etc’, they might as well serve their parents. Kids who don’t have chores as children become irresponsible adults. I learned most stuff chatting to my mum after school (late middle school/high school) and she used to say cut this up, add this, pass that etc. I can’t honestly recall making any food before I was 12. Washing up and so on was like 9-10. I made my first tea at 11.
