I find it annoying that most professions have been squeased down to 8 hours in front of a computer, shifting through Outlook the entire day, seriously boring, like what I do, like surving the net when I should be preparing reports. I would rather do a job where I use my hands and move around more. Traveling and speaking to people would help as well. Time for a serious change, just waiting to hear from certain people. Hizb, depends what kind of Civil Service, the diplomatic fast track with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office sounds amazing, fascinating research and you change placements every three years. Wouldn't mind doing that

In a glass beach condo on the Mogadishu coast line or one of the smaller Islands.

I have seen this before, just goes to show you, do you really see what you see?

This is so freaky, I was just thinking about this a few days ago, when I was reading about the bombings in Mogadishu, an article read ‘Motors were being fired throughout the night’, and I was thinking how lucky I am that I can sleep peacefully. A few days later, just before I fell asleep I was thinking of the phrase in surah fataxa, ‘Make us among those whom you have favoured’. Before I used to think, one day Allah will make us among those he has favoured, as in the after life. Then it just came to me that we already are those whom he has favoured. Born Muslim, saved from the war, loving home, good loving parents who love each other, understanding siblings who are my closest friends, a good education, health and complete faith. I was so shocked when I realized all of these things in relation to that phrase, I think that’s when I started to feel slightly unworthy & that I could never thank Allah enough. I think I do know the feeling you are talking about Nur, can’t explain it though. I think it can be re-created when doing dikir, that's when my heart is most alive.

^^Come on, there were good parents in Somalia before the war too.

^^^ lol wax walan. Niko is not porn

With all their natural plants, I'm sure they could find a cure had they the opportunity & brians to stop maiming one another.

^^^ I agree with you, the Khat & welfare situation is a problem for Somali men in the UK. And recently, they have discovered multiple wifes maintained on welfare I know we roll our eyes when we here about Khat abuse, but I don’t think we really realize the extend of it’s destruction. Im not talking about Khat in general but Khat abuse, day in day out every night obsession thing. Men have been removed of their responsibility by the state, and yes men will always be blamed because ultimately, they are responsible for the family. I'm glad though that the new generation of Somali fathers will be excellent role modles for their kids.

Yes, Valenteena, but it can always get worse. We need to get the Imam's and Co on our side if anything is ever going to change or be prevented. Somalis are very secretive, it would be a disaster otherwise.

Development isn't just beatiful sky scrapers, it's elimanting poverty, education masses and taking care of the environment. I can't believe some of you are seriously comparing these cities to Somalia. Sudan has new found oil wealth, but executing men and maiming and raping women in one side of the country and this on the other. Sure, they are 'developed'.

To the somali ladies: How can a brotha get to really know you

Again, men killing women, how sad. What I don't understand is, the women in the article know that AIDS kills, but they thought it was still OK just because he was their hubby? Why cant they just refuse? I am worried about our own nation, where the war, non-sterile hospitals, multiple partners or wifes, and where condoms are still a taboo may craete a little new AIDS hell.

^^^yes It's just a istupid book! Besides, it doesn't it say that Jesus was not devine, and a mere mortal? Isn't that a huge yes yes? It's more about what the Church said , he said she said. We know the truth. Enough for me.

Yes well, I think it's not fair on children as well. Parents have to be aware where they are raising their children. If you go to school and all your friends are doing one thing and your parents tell you not to do what they are all doing. What will you do, split yourself into half? Growing up in the 'West' without changing is like throwing your kids in the ocean and ordering them not to get wet. A new problem is langauge, how many parents have you seen saying, 'What?' when their kid has an outburts in English and they dont get it. It's really bad.

lol@gay, don't be ridicules. Trousers is a perfectly respectable word, unlike pants which make you think of undearwear. I believe my father did the best he could, he was obsessed with education and didn't want to hear about boys until you were 18, and marriage until you were at least 21 and with a degree behind you name. What he could help us with he did and what he didn't know he got us tutors. On the other hand, my mother was just as strict as he was, having been a school teacher herself. No matter how hard a father works, I don't think they can ever match how much mothers do for their children. It's just how things are. As for other people I cannot speak for them, maybe the fact that many father's feel usless and unable to help their children. some of them had great positions back home and cannot live with feelings of shame at having to do menial jobs. For example, you see a 16 year old earning the same money per hour part time as his father would. Maybe inability to adapt and adjust. I suppose everyone sees the problem from a different view.

Those who are a twin themselves or have a parent that has a twin have a better chance of having twins. I think twins are just a miracle, nothing freakish about them.

Khalaf, you don't need a Murhram everytime you leave the house. I heard that the Prophet's (SAW) saying that there will come a time when women will travel alone freely is not necessarily a negative comment. Lakin Allah knows best and I'm not knowledgable on these things. I heard about the 38th, it's hard to believe.

Wouldn't that be lovely Bishita? I'm sure it comes at a price though. I thought it had more to do with hereditary, but I suppose they have to start somewhere.

^^Lets not give the kids any ideas, you never know who reads what you type. I don't think I have ever been in a presence of violent incident taking place, but if it did I would probably help without thinking. I remember a few years ago in a psychology class, the teacher gave us a scenario on assessing altruism where the following took place. He asked, 'Imagine it was a quiet night, and you were walking home alone, the street is empty, then in the corner of your eye you spot someone being attacked, you don't know if the attacker is using a weapon or not. The victim is lying down and you can see that he/she cannot take any more, would you intervene?' Of a class of about 25 people, me, a Turkish girl, a black guy and one Portuguese guy put up our hands, basically all the foreigners. The rest of them would walk on, some said they might call the police but most didn't want to get 'involved' or give witness statements to the police. Now imagine if that was your sister or brother, you would want someone to help them. So don't count on any help.

^^^I actually thought he made some good points, laakin the avarage pub-going-working white Brit won't think that way.

Vibe, don't worry, a lot of weddings nowerdays niko is banned or discouraged. I find it very distaseful when a whoel crowd is watching a couple or two girls, men, women, even older women. Do they feel no shame? Even watching it if you are not doing yourself, it's not on. If only ppl would remember WHICH part of their body they are playing with.

Yes it is unfortunate,I just saw on the news that a 16 year old has been arrested in connection with the murder. It isn’t enough that most are unemployed, cheating the system and living here as guests now they want to make their name in crime as well. The word ‘Somali’ is almost synonymous with criminality nowadays; with newspapers such as The Sun taking daily jabs at the community, I’m sure they will have a field day with this news. I blame parents who send out a dangerous message to young Somali criminals, that they can evade justice and start a new life afresh under the sun elsewhere. A lot of the time, suspects are smuggled out of the country. As was the case of the Camden gang killing, where 5 of the suspects fled the country presumably with the help of their families, also, the man who shot the police woman is rumored to have left the country. Poverty, bad housing, bad parenting, lack of knowledge in regards to the law. Just how many young Somalis know that you can get 5 years in jail for carrying a knife? Poverty is just no excuse, in Somalia there was poverty, you never saw people resulting to crime. And if they were born here how can they see violence? Were they not too young to remember such things? How can you not know if your child is carrying a weapon to school? Or who his friends are? The murder has been failed by both teachers and family. What does it take for a youngster to take a knife to school? Now all young Somalis will suffer as a consequence, Lord Help us all. This is truly depressing.

Sure he did, but we need solutions, I mean what can be done? A lot of families have realized life in the 'West' isn't for them. Especially here in the UK, many have moved to the Middle East, Somalia, Africa.

North, that man is funny. He didn't say anything new we don't know about. It's all lack of Iman, but you can't balme people if they want to try for a better life. Wonder what would happen if every single Somali was deported.

I was bron in Mogadishu...childhood in small town Germany...moved on in London where I still am. Looks like everyone is staying true to their nomadic ways, I doubt the avarge person has lived in as many places as we have.
