Stoic, if you trust your friend with other things what should weight matter? She shouldn't be upset because it's from a point of concern. If you don't say anything its like you don't care. Maybe you should get her a gym membership as a present.

These people surely are being tested severely.

You give too much emphasis to the TV, althought I see where you are getting at. Teachers, friends & neighbours equally influence children. At most you spend a couple of hours each evening with your parents and maybe the weekend, not nearly enough time to decode all the 'bad' that they have picked up. TV is a wondeful teacher, until that is, it wants to teach everything that you don't want your kids to see as normal. Cartoons are harmless, what about soaps or dramas that tell you its ok to be G*y and the world won't end if you have an abortion or have an affair with your teacher? I'm sure the TV of your childhood was sensored.

Absolutely beautiful, I can't believe (in one of the pics) it looked like that in 1936. What a shame.

^^Don't worry English Lit is too huge to be covered in a degree.

Congrats Justice, Don't keep any skeletons in your closet that might harm you later on.

^^ Very good and close Hecuba, anyone care to fill the rest in? lol@nudist & Blake, I think that was Byron? Wasn't Blake the religious one? It was John Donne, and The Unkown Soldier died a few days before the Nov 11 Armastice (spelling?).

^^^ Valenteenah, there is a lady we know who was at the hospital when my cousin was having her first child, she just gave birth to her 13th child and her teeth were falling out because of an illness that is related to lack of calcium. even if you have no health problems, believe me having 20 odd kids will definately give you health problems. Your body can only host so many guests.

To the somali ladies: How can a brotha get to really know you

^^ Hey I didn't say remove it, I said I found it dusturbing. Perhaps because it reminds us of something we are trying to forget while we plan our wonderful weekends. Hizb, the body languag etells it all, the mother is unsure as to what action to take, look at where her hand is resting, as if in thought. The older boy is crossing his hands over his chest, a sign of defensiveness, maybe his other hand is resting or holding back his brother, the picture is not so clear. The younger boy is leaning close to his mother, as are the other two children, and the youngest is clearly not enjoying himself. -
Yeah I would like to read it too. I met him at a conference once and he seemed very pleasant.

This country is moving slower than a snail. I suppose they are spared two types of humiliation, now limited to just one.

Didi Kong, tut's mir leid, just curious. Morocco & Cairo look fascinating but will judge them when I visit them.

1) What themes tied the Romantics together? 2) Name three of Shakespeare contemporaries? 3) In John Keats poem, The Eve of St. Agnes, what does a virgin have to do to get visions of her lover on the Eve of St. Agnes? 4) In Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, why does Victor feel guilty about the trail of Justine? 5) How many plays did Berthold Brecht write? 6) In the famous war novel 'All Quiet on the Western Front', why was the death of the Unknown Soldier & hero of the novel especially more tragic? 7) Name the title & author of the following first paragraph of this poem: 'I WONDER by my troth, what thou and I Did, till we loved ? were we not wean'd till then ? But suck'd on country pleasures, childishly ? Or snorted we in the Seven Sleepers' den ? 'Twas so ; but this, all pleasures fancies be ; If ever any beauty I did see, Which I desired, and got, 'twas but a dream of thee.' 8) In ‘Things Fall Apart’ what is Okonowo’s great flaw that leads to his downfall? 9) Name one famous Somali author/poet & where I can get his works from?

^^^I find it disturbing too, even the family behind him look frightened, look how the youngest child is holding on to his sisters hand. they should'nt have to witness that. Seems to symbolise all that is wrong with Somalia. But I don't want to offend anyone. I think someone already asked him to remove it. To all those wasting time on embarssing rehersed lines, what happened to good old honest 'Hi, I'm Hebel, .... how are you (or comment on anything mutual at the time. No girl in her right mind would warm to silly chat up lines. Well unless that is, you are targeting under 18s. -
Please refrain from invention in religion, it's a serious sin. If something wans't around at the time of the Prophet (SAW) and there was no clear evidence that it is haram then I don't know why people are bending backwards to justify it as haram.

This kind of behaviour is quiet wide spread in the Gulf region, I know this from a direct source. The idea that domestic workers are equal to yesteryears slaves is quiet common. It happens in other capacities as well. My aunt was in UAE for 6 months and had to renew her visa, I'm not sure if she had a British passport at the time but after waiting in que for 3 hours the guy charged her double the money or told her to get lost. And whilst she was waiting a blond woman joined the que who was served immediatley and with smiles. I think the concept of equality is something alien to them or limited to a certain group.

It's all part of the progress, let them expose themselves for the inefficent 'MPs' that they are, and that's being polite, very polite. -
Lack of humanity, they thrife on suffering.

Hizb, the 'promoting of British interests at home and abroad' does make me slightly uneasy. But then again, if ppl like us don't try for those kind of jobs then we really cannot go on complaining about having no effect on policy change, of course after 10 years that is. Plus they have asians and blacks and all types of people now. Diplomacy is pretty much dead in Europe, so it would have to be rest of the world. The catch is you must have worked for 3 whole years, which is physically not possible in my case because I was a student back then. I don't mind snobbery, I'm used to all types of attitudes.

^^^lol, well aren't we nosy. Don't worry Rayana, if in doubt, just simle and batter your eyelashes. On the up side, it does make the Somali sound incredibly romantic, kind of like Italian/French when you don't understand half of is being said. Shukansi in Somali in a league of its own.
