  1. You need to face reality, the majority of Somalis are qabilist and all this feel-good hoopla wouldn't change a damn thing I am talking about qabil am I not? How is that making the issue taboo? I am well aware that qabil is alive & kicking in the Somali community, all I'm saying is that it should just remain a fact and all the importance given to it by some should be diminished, at least to a reasonable extend. People have come to relay more heavily on qabil networking because of the collapse of the country.
  2. LoooooooL Ngonge. I or my family have never been in a situation to need the help of strangers thankfully.
  3. Ebyan , it hasn't. I am against the whole principle. Isn't there something deeply disturbing about loving your clan just because you are of that clan? There has to be more to it than that. Perhaps we should ask one another what has my qabil ever done for me? This does not include family members, both immediate and 10 times removed helping you out. Wouldn’t a greater nation that is for the benefit of ALL qabils and all people be a better goal to aim for then, no matter how hard this goal is, than say, a situation where only certain clans are powerful and protected, living good lives? I believe this is what got Somalia in this mess to begin with.
  4. D&D I dont know, I think it has a lot to do with just the person we are. Tnx Castro
  5. The person who wrote this probably confused his folks helping him/her out with qabil, when you are in need is usually your family, extended family, distant relatives and maybe your neighbours who help you out. This is our culture. There is a strong possibility that most of your family would consist of one tribe. This shouldn’t be overlooked or confused with clanisim. Only a sick person would favour someone over another purely for clan reasons. Ebyan , I like to think NOT. And believe it or not there are many many people out there who are not clannish inclined, for you to say they are fakes is equally condescending. That all Somalis are ‘qabilists’ is an overused excuse to continue discriminating. My tribe is just a fact, it does not go beyond that, it is not more special or worthy than the next. p.s Paragon I would refuse, I am a strong campaigner against too much 'reerka' intermarrying. I say go out, the further away from one's tribe the better. Unless that is he was drop dead gorg , then that would be a bit of a dilemma
  6. I guess your level of ‘qabiilnimo’ depends on what you have experienced during the war, what you have seen and done. I find bitter ppl who have lost many family members to certain conflicts are most qabil orientated. Most of us can agree that sharing a qabil with a hundred thousand others or so does not automatically endear them to us, even then some will look for sub-clan branches and to those who are closer to them within that larger group. Faith, respect, trust, friendship and blood ties always trump qabil. As far as I am concerned any one of us could just as easily have been born into the ‘enemy’ tribes of X or Y. Ebyan, yes I do consider myself 'freed' not that I was ever imprisoned. Qabil has done nothing for me, ehelkada are the ones that have done stuff for you, they just mostly happen to be from the same tribe.
  7. Good job guys, everything I was going to say has been said. Why isn't this in General discussions? People tend to avoid Politics section I think targeting policy research orgs (their reports are usually widely cited and tend to influence gov officials) and local MPs will help greatly.
  8. Gabadh baa tahaye xishood oo raga kaftamaya ka dhex bax, waad ku luntaye  Oh no you didn't! Can't anything be discussed without getting personal? Ideas, concepts, and opinions ppl, not me me me, and go easy on she said he said I said as well, it makes things unecessarily long, godness...
  9. LoL@toys for big girls and boys. The idea of a toy only serves to intrigue kids more. Kamiya, this reminds me of a story about one liberal aunt I know whose very inquisitive and intelligent 5 year old daughter (now 10) found out in kindergarten that boys and girls had different gentiles and then when she got home asked to see what guys had, and the mother said to the dad ‘tus nooh!’ to which he walked out of the house in protest lol. Tell him it’s private & not for public display or use the book like suggested. At least when they are older they’ll connect A to B and will be informed. And if he asks how the baby got there, thats a complicated story for another day, when he is older... Im off home now.
  10. LOL@few decades, if it suits you why not. I havent catched up on the whole tailor made thing, I thought only ppl of my mums age had stuff made. Have any of you tried it?
  11. LOL, its the current fashion K. But only short ppl need to worry about heels
  12. Kamiya, tell him the baby came out through the birthing canal, also known as vagina. And that they are sometimes born via C-section and come out of the lower abdomen. I don't see why kids are told lies and things made so mysterious. It’s a fact of life.
  13. Huh? Midwifes are midwifes, no? They have all kinds of weird ppl nowerdays such as 'Birthing Partners' and 'Breathers' and all kinds of silly things that originated from celebrities. Why Serenity? Change of career?
  14. "Super Max Jihadists This is so halarious, ppl have really lost it. Whatever next?
  15. ^^^ I don’t think corruption is a uniquely Saudi thing, but it’s just amazing because it’s on such a huge scale. To be honest, I'm not sure I quiet understand what Whabism is. How is it different from being an ordinary Sunni? What the Saudi establishment has done is smartly project Islam as its own unique sacred Arab identity, thus making others feel they need to have a certain special ‘arabness’ to feel or be Muslim, which frankly is bulls*hit. I, too, find it very annoying when some Somalis try to adopt certain elements of Arab culture, we have always been Muslim or at least for a very long time and still remained Somali. This shouldn’t have to change.
  16. Cambarro, since you are fascinated by the KSA, I think you might find this book interesting, it was recommended by an old uni prof (he was an Egyptian)...the book is called Rise, Corruption and the Coming Fall of the House of Saud by Said K. Aburish (also called House of Saud). You will be amazed with the day light robbery & amount of corruption that the royal fam have gotten away with and are still getting away with, not to mention the effects their policies have had and still have on neighbouring Muslim countries. As for the author of the book you mentioned, I think if he was serious he should have tried to write specifically for a Muslim audience, and thus should tone down his sucking up. I can agree though that unfortunately you can now practice your faith a lot better here than in some Muslim countries.
  17. May Allah ease their suffering, amiin.
  18. I think you can actually sue them if they post pictures of underage minors online without the permission of their parents, assuming you have proof. Furthermore, if the pictures are unsuitable they can be taken to court for posting child porn online. This goes for anyone under the age of 16, not sure if it extends to under 18 year olds, in the UK at least.
  19. Lily I love the long flowing dresses you posted and those alike but since I'm 5"11 they usually turn out to be three quarter length. Actually, the DP ones might be a bit on the short side for you comapred to others. I tried on the one Sheh posted,(she must be very tall!) its so long its like a tent,I'm 5'7 & I tried it with my high wedges, it still sweeped the floor ( i think thats the idea). Try Principles, they should have this very long looking dress in next few days (its online but not in the shops) , good luck. CC, I stopped buying bags, I think I have one to go with every outfit by now.
  20. It sounds legal enough to me, we don’t have to approve of the intentions behind such marriages but they look like they satisfy the legal criteria. When you oppress ppl like that they turn to desperate means.
  21. Val Bring back loaaaaaaaaaads of pictures, so that we may see if all that advertising we hear is really spot on or not CG and Ng, must we really know about you intimate lavatory habits? Goodness…
  22. A few more summer dresses for the bohemians amongst you, all from Dorothy Perkins: They would look nice with a little bolero or cardi, some exaggerated African inspired jewelry and high wedge sandals.
  23. -Lily-

    wow

^^^ I second that. Who said she was 'pretty'? Anyone can look 'pretty' with the right make up and lighting. I think she has a unique look that makes her beautiful, she is lanky and skinny but looks comfortable in her own skin.
  24. I guess this is good timing for those of us planning a holiday soon, more for your money. But what does this mean domestically? Nothing we will notice I hope, the BBC article I read earlier today doesn't sound promising though: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6563013.stm
