Sudanese officials arrive in Somaliland to learn about Berbera Port and how it is being developed into a regional Hub.

  7. An old reer Koonfur maahmaah went "cimrigaaga oo raaga, geel dhalaaya waa ku tusaa". Somaliland becoming a Banana Exporting country, who would have even imagined that? Fresh Del Monte announces banana partnership in Somaliland Hargeisa (HOL) - Fresh Del Monte Produce, a leading global producer and distributor of fruit and vegetables, announced a partnership with UAE-based Moze Holding Limited, a new banana grower established in Somaliland, to grow and export bananas for the Middle East and North Africa markets. As part of the agreement, Fresh Del Monte will purchase the bananas directly from Moze’s newly established banana farm but will retain operational oversight. The first harvest is expected in 2024, with fruit sold and marketed under the Fresh Del Monte brand to the Arab world. The Middle East is currently supplied by bananas from Central America or the Philippines, with average transit times ranging from 20 to 35 days. “We are pleased to officially announce this partnership, which we believe is a game-changer for the banana industry in the region,” said Mohammad Abu-Ghazaleh, Fresh Del Monte’s Chairman and CEO. “The move to reestablish banana operations in Somalia makes sense on many accounts – from its strategic location on the Horn of Africa to fulfilling our mission of supplying our consumers with the freshest produce available – all while aiding the country’s recovery.” Although no longer affiliated with the larger Del Monte Foods, Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc has a license to market its products worldwide under the Del Monte brand. Moze Holding Limited, a banana grower wholly owned by Abu Dhabi-based investment firm Talc Investment, believes the partnership will provide consumers access to fresher, lower-cost fruit while investing in the region’s local economy. “The Moze and Talc teams are delighted to work with a renowned name in agriculture, such as Fresh Del Monte, to revive the banana cultivation farms in Somaliland. This multi-purpose approach will serve the communities in the Horn of Africa, the Middle East, and the United Arab Emirates. We intend to build on this partnership in the near future as we look forward to a fruitful relationship,” said Mohammed Aldhaheri, Moze Holding and Talc Investment Chairman. According to Fresh Del Monte, Moze acquired a large plot of land in the previously well-known banana farming territories in the breakaway region of Somaliland. The statement does not specify where exactly the farm is located. Somali bananas - famed for their sweet, creamy vanilla flavour - are one of the most important staple crops in the country and have long been an essential food source and income for the Somalis. It is consumed with rice, pasta or just as a fruit. Commercial banana production in Somalia dates back to the 1920s when Italian colonists introduced it to the fertile Shabelle and Juba river basins. The colonial government encouraged the growth of the banana industry, and as a result, commercial banana production rapidly expanded and soon became one of the largest industries in Somalia. Banana export peaked in the 1980s, led by the brand Somalita, partly owned by Unifrutti - an Italian company owned by the De Nadai family. Exports in 1990 neared $100 million, according to agricultural experts.

  10. They are politically checkmated. Meel ay u socdaan oo wada hadal Hargeisa la furaan ka ahayn ma jirto.
  11. By the end of this current issue in Laascaanood, a much more stronger and united Somaliland will emerge. The issue with Sool/Sanaag has always had too many fingers meddling in its affairs. Today, both Hargeisa, Mogadishu and the region are unanimously agree that this issue can only be resolved by opening talks with Hargeisa. Kuwii lurta beesha Sool clan jeclaa ee Garowe banaanka ayay ka joogaan maanta. The final solution is within reach. Heestii Hassan Adan ee ahayd... hadii la isu dayn lahaa labadayada, talo ma laalanteen, kuwo lurtayada jecel ayaa intaa hoosta kaga lamaan!!!
  12. Sanaag is officially only 3 districts. Dhahar/Badhan and Taleex are just one district.
  13. As the dust is now settling down and the initial euphoria is giving way to the real facts on the ground. Things are becoming a little more clearer: 1. Somaliland resolve is unwavering 2. Garaado are going through the FAFO motion. Probably thinking a way out of this checkmate 3. Maamulka Puntland is now irrelevant in Sool/Sanaag issue. 4. The IC/Region and even Mogadishu are all in agreement that Sool/Sanaag are Somaliland and will remain Somaliland. The agreement in Caynabo in 2017 between President Siilaanyo and Prof Ali Khaliif Galaydh didn't materialise because Prof. Ali failed to bring the Garaado with him or in agreement. This time, President Muse Biixi and the Garaado of Sool clan will reach a binding agreement to wrinkle out outstanding issues. President IOG of Djibouti will host the meetings.
  14. Absolutely. However, the truth remains, legally, Somali Republic was dissolved by Siyad Barre in 1969. And Somaliland was from that day onwards, an occupied territory of the dictatorship. That occupation also came to an end in 1991. From 1991, whatever new structure of government that was agreed on by Somalia's factions have no legal binding on Somaliland. Why Somaliland was not recognised, is purely a political position, not a legal position. And this political position has a lot to do with the status of Somalia as a "failed state". No one wants to disturb a hornets nest when everything has broken down. The safest option is just to let it be and let them deal with each other. However, after 30 years, this option of "let it be" is no longer sustainable. Which is why the International Community is waiting for the Presidential elections in Somaliland to take place and after that a final and binding political settlement is reached between Hargeisa and Mogadishu.
  15. Basically, the Somaliland + Somalia union was between two states as stipulated by the Act of Union, clearly stating that the Union was between the State of Somaliland and State of Somalia which united to form the "Somali Republic". That union totally was dissolved in 1969 by the military marxist dictatorship. Ever since that very day, the Act of Union was no longer valid. However, what existed was the facts on the ground that Somalia was being kept by force. That too came to an end in 1991. So both, the Legal aspect and the Fact on the ground aspect totally do not support that Union of 1960.
  16. Wishful thinking is all they have. It has always been. In fact, the people elected their own mayors and local council. The voluntary withdrawal to give space to the locals while they discuss their local issues, doesn't mean there is a complete change of power. It is just a space - nothing more nothing less.
  17. Why lock him up? Just ask all those fake representative to pack their bags and leave. That I will welcome any day. It is not like they represent anyone anyway.
  18. LOL Laabta ayaad si fiican ugu sii daysay Social media fake news. Inta Laascaanood qof lagu dilay (waliba dadka u shaqeeya Somaliland) hadii la isku wada daro, waxa ka badan intii Deni iyo Diyano iska dileen mudo 5 maalin ah. Go figure. Talking about Kibir, Deni's massacre of the *** traditional leaders in Bosaso - that is what you call Kibir. Also how Deni personally selected his own parliamentarians - that is also Kibir. In Somaliland, no one is above the law, and everything is out in the open. In fact, Reer Sool, if they are committed enough can take the Presidency in Somaliland. But if they are expecting to be given to them on a silver platter, that is not going to happen, they have to do the hard yards and work for it.
  19. We see this as a challenge. There is no room for complacency. The women and children will be allowed to vent and express their opinions. However, the anti-peace groups cannot be allowed to have a foothold in Sool region. It just cannot happened. All these social media gimmicky will have to face reality sooner or later.
  20. Caruurnimo waa ciil laga waynaado. Ciidanka Qaranku wuxu uga baxay magaaladda waa arin siyaasi ah. Laakin quwad ka xoog wayn oo meesha joogta ma jirto. Laakin wixii melitia beeleed ah, gacan bir leh ayaa lagu qabanaya. Watch this space.
  21. Sool meelna uma socoto. Xaraaradda qabyaaladda ee madax martay caruurta iyo dumarka, wakhtigeeda waa la siinaya.
