ÙÙŠ المدارس الشعبية كان المدرسون يسألون تلاميذهم عما إذا كان آباؤهم قد أداروا جهاز التليÙزيون عندما كان ÙŠÙعرض برنامج عن الرئيس. Ùإذا أجاب أحدهم بالنÙÙŠ كان يمكن أن ينتهي الأمر بالأب إلى التحقيق والمساءلة. روح.. رياضية! كان مشجعو النوادي العريقة غاضبين من سرقة عدي الدنيئة لأÙضل لاعبيهم. كل العراقيين تقريبا من مشجعي كرة القدم، وكثير منهم لا يزال يتذكر جيدا أول مباراة Ù„Ùريق عدي ضد Ùريق العاصمة، نادي الطلبة، المرشح الأكبر للÙوز، ÙÙŠ ملعب الشعب ÙÙŠ بغداد ÙÙŠ ليلة من ليالي الشتاء ÙÙŠ مطلع عام 1985. بÙني هذا الملعب لممارسة الرياضة وكرة القدم ÙÙŠ عام 1966 بأموال الهيئات الخيرية لبارون البترول الأرمني كالوست جولبنكيان .كان هناك ستون ألÙا من المشاهدين ÙÙŠ ملعب الشعب عندما Ø£Ùطلقت صاÙرة البداية. كان خمسة وتسعون بالمائة من المشاهدين يساندون نادي الطلبة، أما الأل٠المتبقية من المشاهدين Ùقد دÙع لهم ليشجعوا الرشيد على قدر ما أوتوا من قوة. أما المذيع Ùقد أمره ابن الرئيس بأن يحذر أعضاء الÙريق المقابل Ù„Ùريق الرشيد من اللعب بصورة جيدة، وترك لنÙسه الحبل على غاربه ÙÙŠ استعمال مكبرات الصوت ÙÙŠ الاستاد لتشجيع الواÙدين الجدد (الرشيد) على أرض الملعب تشجيعا ناريا، Ùقد كان عليهم أن يعطوا كل ما عندهم لسحق الخصم. سرى القلق إلى المدرجات، وأخذ الناس ÙÙŠ رمي اللاعبين الذين خانوا نادي الطلبة، ÙˆÙروا إلى عدي. كان على وحدات كبيرة من الشرطة التدخل لإيقا٠القاذÙين بالحجارة والقضاء على التمرد الوليد. أما المأساة الكبري Ùكانت الحكم. ÙÙŠ كل مرة كان يحتسب Ùيها ضربة حرة ضد الرشيد كان ينظر ÙÙŠ رعب إلى منصة الشر٠ليري رد Ùعل ابن الرئيس. تقدم نادي الطلبة Ù„Ùترة كبيرة من عمر المباراة بهدÙ. واحتسب الحكم ÙÙŠ آخر دقيقة ضربة جزاء Ù„Ùريق الرشيد. لم ير المتÙرجون أحدا من لاعبي نادي الطلبة يرتكب أي خطأ، غير أن جميعهم أدرك أن هذا الحكم المسكين كان عليه أن ÙŠÙعل أي شيء للنجاة بحياته. انتهت المباراة بالتعادل بهد٠لكل Ùريق. برزان وتآمر حسين كامل كان رئيس المخابرات برزان يعتبر ثاني أقوى رجل ÙÙŠ العراق، وهو الأمر الذي لم يعجب عدي، وقصي، وحسين كامل، وعمه علي حسن المجيد. أخذوا يتابعون نشاطه بمزيد من الحسد والتشكيك، وانتابهم اليأس من أنهم لم تعد لديهم المقدرة على المناÙسة ÙÙŠ السباق الدائر للÙوز بالحظوة لدي الرئيس. بتحÙيز من حسين كامل بدأوا يزرعون الشـك ÙÙŠ دواÙع برزان، هامسين أن على الرئيس أن يكون على حذر، وأنه من المتصور أن هذا الأخ غير الشقيق القوي يريد حتى الاستيلاء على السلطة ÙÙŠ العراق. شيئا Ùشيئا بدأ صدام يعتقد أنهم ربما يكونون على حق، وأن رئيس المخابرات ربما يمثل تهديدا. وعندما تجاهل صدام احتجاجات إخوته غير الأشقاء وزوّج ابنته رغد من حسين كامل أدرك برزان ما حل به: لم يعد رقم واحد عند صدام.
