What annoys the most is how even the African despite knowing the truths of the NGOs allow themselves to be continually manipulated with lies and myths about our continent and advocate for more of the useless interventions which enrich everyone but the Africans it was meant to 'empower'. because the elite have shares in the spoil albeit peanuts.Best way to go around is ban them totally.I haven't seen anything tangible or visible they did in somaliland, not even one building.Immunization yes did see which was suspect, like every month.

the secret succeeding in somalia is the first year .That's exactly what happened in hargeisa & burao. Those who went first got everything cheap including land ,half destroyed houses.Their profits more than tripled in few yrs.You won't even get a good location in 6 months time.Talking from experience. So you better hurry up. -
It's get rich quick scheme for NGOs/ UN...their employees neva bother look for job back in Europe or America. Kenyans earn up to Nine millions dollars in Somaliland[1] This study is about Kenyans working for International Organizations in Somaliland and looks at how much Kenyans earn from employment opportunities in Somaliland on the cost of Somaliland people. The study also explores who is responsible for such loss of opportunities and weighs arguments for and against this practice. It presents possible options open to Somaliland Government and national professionals, whom are the real victims of such practice. This study was carried out with data and information from Department of Labour of Min. of Health & Labour and Immigration Department of Min. of Interior. In additions, interviews were made with some of Kenyans working in Hargeisa. Facts and Figures; There are about 200 Kenyans working for more than 50 international agencies (both UN and NGOs) that are currently operating in Somaliland. In addition, more than 50 Kenyan Consultants are monthly hired from Nairobi to undertake short-to-medium employment services for the international agencies in Hargeisa. More than 80% of Kenyans work for the international NGOs that have got offices in Hargeisa and Nairobi, while the other 20% works for UN agencies in Somaliland. The Kenyan staffs have got regular job contracts and as such are considered as expatriate staff working in Somaliland. They are, therefore, paid much higher than the local staff and little lower than expatriates from other countries. Interviews with some of these Kenyans indicate that they earn a monthly salary range from US$2000 to US$5000, while consultants earn upto US$9000 per month. In addition, air tickets, accommodation, transport within Somaliland and "danger' allowance are all paid from the Kenyan staff by the international agencies. These other expense roughly amounts US$ 3000 per month per staff. If, for instance, about 250 Kenyans are regularly working in Somaliland, and the average person earns about US$ 3000 per month, all Kenyans in Somaliland earn an amount of US$750,000 per month, which is equivalent to 9000,000 (nine million) US dollars per year. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=un%20%26%20ngo%20costs%20in%20somaliland&source=web&cd=4&ved=0CFcQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fsagalgroup.webs.com%2Fkenyansinsomaliland.htm&ei=BZHST__dHI-s0AHFvIiXAw&usg=AFQjCNHP_Qb7sNd9sF3JmlYtePjs-Pi10g

Mario B;840091 wrote: ^^ com'on, how many Somalis have 26 kids, this type of anecdotal evidence means nothing. I have plenty of aunts in their 30's who haven't married, I can't use them as proof because they don't have children. that shows you haven't been home.Things have changed since after civil war, 20yr olds have 4 women in part cos of mortality rate and families geting scared they could be wiped out. This thing started in the camps in Ethiopia. That's how marrying cousins have came to being(we neva had before),but because girls couldn't find men, families have decided to marry their kin.Your cousin girl have you instead by anotha woman.....

*Blessed;840064 wrote: No, Buuraha. I've an issue with the NGO version of Somalis which you seem to have bought. You seem to be going around in circles, number of children isn't the issue, that has been established. It's lack of peace and instability which keeps some families poor, that too has been established. In some parts, many large families are living in relative health, that is also another part of the Somali story. How many somalis can afford take care of 10 children even when at peace? What kind life they live in or is it just "a living",do they go to school or have normal childhood...that's why somalis r skinny...if you look back our fathers/grand fathers were taller & bigger cos of less population. You live in your circumstances ,there's always room for improvement & yes we need more people. one plate of rice is shared by 3 or 4 & don't tell me the less than 10% that can have enough to go around. @ doctorkenney...true but we talking now ,in the meantime....

^^ think all is said now on either side ,i took Dadab an rxample, but for argument's sake the story is the same on otha regions.Have you guys been back home lately..I swear I know this guy(related),he's around 45 with 26 children, none of thm go to school cos they hardly get 2 meals.some of the children turned to mini crimes, others live with related families...bad situation. How can I or anyone help when everyone throwing children en mass from brothers to cousins ..God knows how we all burdened..atleast those of us care to send few $$

Wealthy, middle class, working class family in Muqdisho, Bosaaso, Hargaisa, Jigjiga etc. also have large families they can take care of. I really don't understand waxaa la isu mukuriyo, most of us are from large families, we know the truth about Somali familes, give it a rest will ya. so the issue is me now WOW

what you talking about?

Blackflash;840034 wrote: Che Guevara is right, contextualize, you're talking about a country with one of the highest infant mortality rates and constant famine. I'm not againest population growth & I'm not expecting anyone distribute pills but the number of children per family is stagering which is ok if you can afford.Isn't it possible to help those in refuge camps like Dadab(500,000) to come up with a solution to minimize atleast for the time being, they burden on thmslvs.

Mario B;840020 wrote: Those children and women are starving because of our man made wars and famines. As I said previoulsy, if you want to cut population growth, all you need to do is educate women, improve antenatal care and post-natal care and watch the population growth plumment. P.s I our women are our heroes, not only have they suffered the most from our ****** wars, but they have also gotten pregnant in a poor country- a risk in itself. the question here has neva been about blaming anyone...if one has to be blamed it's men who mess up somalia. question is what could be done under current circumstances ..it's whole new ball game when things come back normal ,gov't will have the responsibility to tackle.. agreed what you said.

Che -Guevara;840012 wrote: You will be helping in great cause. At this stage, having zero kids would be noble thing to do and perhaps pursue Garnaqsi, burahadeer and others to do the same. Take one for the team ninyahow. have 4 kids and planning more but they not in same situation as those unlucky ones in camps.
-
@Chimera....Neva blamed mothers. It's a question on how to improve their lives.Mothers don't wana come to a situation where she choses who dies or lives among her children cos of lack of food(don't know if you seen that scenario on tv & papers).

Mario B;839996 wrote: We have about 20000 square miles of arable land in Somalia, we probably only farm about 5% of it. We need to start forming cattle stations where feeds and water infrastructure are created in order to give a break to our grazing land and stop the unnecessary desertification. What Somalia needs is permaculture. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permaculture We can even farm more than 80% of the country using rigs but the question is how to stabilize family planning til we reach that point. It's ok to have as many children as you want so long you can afford but fact is you see starving women with dozen kids on evening news. and check this.(the economy of somalia) http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=somali%20water%20underground&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CE8QFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fsomalithinktank.org%2Fthe-economy-of-somalia%2F&ei=AkjST5j3K-r10gGu9d2WAw&usg=AFQjCNG5cCUktFsu2btUvQ_PPxN66wHlQw and this is our fish! [since the territorial waters of Somali are currently not patrolled and lie along major shipping routes, large oil tankers from the Gulf Region going around South Africa pass through these waters and use this opportunity to flush their tanks of contaminated wastes, which is illegal elsewhere around the World, thereby causing serious pollution of these waters and reducing the supply of top-grade fish and other seafood there. This is another reason why a national government of some sort, that is internationally recognized as such, is needed, in order to protect this valuable Somali natural resource.]

^^^ true. It's agriculture that sustains a larger population unless industrialized like the west. Most somali lands made a waste by pastoralism.,trees r cut & consumed by livestock.Could be managed but when?! the only thing look forward to now is oil, minerals etc..hopefully that stabilize our future.

Blackflash;839939 wrote: I have a feeling that it's a lot lower than 10 million. somali fertility encompasses all the somali ethnic group where eva they live. You really can't separate somalia & somali ethnic group, they might have different boundaries but are all intertwined. If you look in Mogadishu In 80s or even Hargeisa today you find atleast 1/2 the population are from ethioia, jubouti, kenya etc. In the diaspora it doesn't matter which country you from. Somali population ova all is put between 17 to 20 million and could be more.

Nigeria's first home made warship:D every stable country can bring in plants. This is done all of 3rd world. All parts r imported. Africa is africa so long they don't dig their steel, gold etc & have no their engineers.Good for thm anyway but nothing that elevates the dire situation of masses.I rather see food abundancy. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-18300358 Nigeria's first home made war ship...Why they need this when great majority r starving....peanuts & corn rather in terms of employment imagine how many could work on 300sq mile fields.

MoonLight1;839825 wrote: Its good news to hear this, Somalia needs a population boom as the next world wars will be on population and water, look at our historic rival Ethiopia with 80 million, and Kenya 35 Million and rising, surely we are one of the least populated countries in the world with only 16 people per KMsq. in the long run ,yes, but under such conditions today!!.We not even growing anything worth sustaining a population. Most food comes from outside. All available to us is livestock and that's if you lucky enough to be in peaceful region. The worst hit areas with concurrent famine r the richest parts(bread basket)..Jubas,but not a bushel available due to lack of security.
