http://reason.com/blog/2012/07/05/another-signpost-on-the-way-to-somali-st And now, a local Somali radio report indicates a burgeoning security state apparatus in Somalia. From RBC Radio: The largest mass arrest operation ever in Mogadishu has been launched today by the national security agency and the police forces of Somalia’s transitional government searching Al Shabaab members, RBC Radio reports. The operation which started early on Thursday morning continued until the afternoon as more than 3,000 people were arrested, the National Security Agency NSA confirmed… “This morning as we were going out to the school a uniformed forces came to our house they arrested two brothers of mine.” Asha Ibrahim Jibril, a resident in Huriwa district told RBC Radio. She complained that most of those arrested were teenagers who have no links to Al-Shabaab but the NSA officials rejected to comment on the allegations of indiscriminate jailing. LEADING NEWS SOURCE FOR TURKEY AND THE REGION / TURKEY/ RIGHTS Wednesday,July 4 2012, Your time is 19:44:43 Turkish woman barred from public bus by religious fanatics ISTANBUL Hürriyet photo A Turkish woman claimed she was prevented from boarding a public bus by a group of Islamists because her outfit would "cause them to sin," according to a report by daily Evrensel. Yağmur Yılmaz, 21, said she left home on June 3 to go to work, wearing a pair of sweatpants and a T-shirt. Yılmaz said she walked to a stop in Istanbul's Edirnekapı district to get on a bus going to Fatih district, where she worked. A group of around 15 men and women clad in burqas, cloaks and turbans who were on the bus blocked Yılmaz's path, saying she could not get on the vehicle. Yılmaz said she told the group it was everybody's right to board the bus, to which the women from the group replied, "We would sin if you get on this bus, you are causing us to sin." The men in the group also harassed Yılmaz, she claimed, saying: "Look at her. Her head is not covered, shame!" "Nobody in the bus did anything about it, not even the driver," Yılmaz said. "There were other 'uncovered' women waiting at the stop, but they just stood by idly." Yılmaz told Evrensel that she had been using the same bus route for a long time and that it was the first time that she encountered such an incident. "I was wearing sweatpants and a T-shirt because it was a Sunday [when many workers can wear more casual clothes], but no one would have the right to do such a thing even if I were wearing a skirt or a dress." Yılmaz said she was startled by the incident, meaning that she was unable to take the bus' license plate number to file a complaint. "I wanted the public to learn about it," she said. "It was a shameful act and should not have happened in the first place." http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hurriyetdailynews.com%2Fturkish-woman-barred-from-public-bus-by-religious-fanatics-.aspx%3FpageID%3D238%26nID%3D22957%26NewsCatID%3D339&h=lAQGCs3dt&enc=AZPR7Pczq3IDFuXuW07EY2ZpQCj3VjVJpbue-6FRJBrFSiUiiM5ZzSc4esMSCQ2_Nj5nysbqLGOtcCjUyC98SMC11293OvIWyFNJkksjqwATXxGRMSjG5TAylMX5YqiC9KZloDz78nBnVa74cMvG4IMUmYaDY4EsrF_pKxDRzPuQr6iRW51mzUYsVxm5528ngPomnryGLZXK4MCnbcZve5fDDRYpwoNTdG2NZVeHTx5mL3sfPa8rtAa1AsyDoZM4cb0

what a nonesense, std almost non existant in somalia comparing to otha african states. -
it's not claiming but they thmslvs believe so,atleast majority of them and somalis don't look like arabs. certainly you can't tell thm apart in many instances...would say there is affinity.
-
somalia proper can't live together & some have the urge to wrestle away more nomads from nearby ...for anotha 40 yrs of failed state? this kind talk sends shock wave thru out the region and good incentive for neighbors to destabilise more!

Nudawn;847787 wrote: After years of war, famine And overall civil strife Somalia is not in a position to even think of militarily capturing lost territories in Ethiopia And Kenya. After The failed campaign in the 70's and the eventual collapse of our nation, we've for the most part forgot about our brothers and sisters in these deprived regions. Militarily capturing territory is out of the question, but an economic take over is very possible. We can make Garissa in the NFD the second largest city in Kenya, with investments from a peaceful Somalia we can transform Garissa into the financial and commercial hub of Kenya. Jigjiga can surpass Adama, Mekele and other regional cities to become a major city in Ethiopia. Somali companies Will be able to form partnerships with local Somali businessmen in these regions, and in turn open up potential market pop. of up to 120 million people. Geographically jigjiga would be within Hargeisa sphere of influence Garissa would fall Under the port city of kismayos sphere. Is this a tangible concept? somalis already integrated to these economies regardless of gov't and with their enterpreneurship can take ova when dust settles down. It's good as well for our neighbors who can tap to our coast and eradicates any political or border disagreements. Can work to the benefit of both, the way it should be.

Good policy..look at congo with 2nd largest forest in the world,so much rain,rivers,fertile.3rd largest african country with all kind minerals..diamond,gold,uranium,iron ore, silver, copper etc and nothing to show for...it has 300 miles of paved roads, somalia poorer 1000s times fares better.Fact is africans were doing much better during colonial times. If europeans were stealing so r africans.Mobutu left behind $18 billion in foreign accts plus 100s of mansions worth tens of billions more.None of that has eva been recovered even by his family.
