  5. Britain’s preoccupation with assisting the Somali region is without question motivated by oil and a desire to capitalise on its share of the country’s resources. Anti western forums are quick to criticise intervention of this nature but what is forgotten is that international politics and negotiations are nearly always linked to internal national incentives. Long term involvement in the future of Somalia’s oil industry will bring about a boom to Britain’s fragile economy which has only just narrowly escaped a triple dip recession. In return, Britain is committed to overseeing the development of the Somali region and from this ‘deal’ Somaliland is able to prosper from British involvement. Britain has already donated funds through the UN to Somaliland’s military forces, which has functioned to strengthen security around Somaliland’s troublesome borders and it is probable that aid will continue to flow into Somaliland Rebecca Charlton Somaliland press.com "Britain has already donated funds through the UN to Somaliland’s military forces, which has functioned to strengthen security around Somaliland’s troublesome borders and it is probable that aid will continue to flow into Somaliland" THIS WAS BEFORE THE BRITISH STARTED PLAYING HARD BALL> or is it sowing conflict...helping Mogadishu politically to disable Somaliland & arming SL to strength security at the border. It's obvious....seeds of conflict will help the British Pound!
  6. Oil discoveries in Somalia has led to a new scramble for Somalia, a lawless and war torn horn of Africa nation where education, health system, and judiciary are not in existence. Oil found in Somalia has led to a new power game where British government is doing economic espionage on Somalia and its neighbors with hope of edging out these neighbors out of the lucrative oil deals and rewards the oil will bring. This is panacea for conflict, and the West is well known for that,;spurring and helping maintain conflicts as they mine the wealth and huge deposits to their benefit, a security and intelligence analyst pointed out. 7. Oslo lobbied hard for a Norwegian to become UN envoy to Somalia. That job instead went this month to a diplomat from the UK, which last week hosted an important conference on Somalia. The attendees at the conference revealed the range of interests converging on Somalia. Qatar, for example, is an investor in Shell. Turkey has led a diplomatic charge for Somalia by setting up an embassy outside the secure airport compound and delivering prominent support, such as a camp for displaced people, a technical college and scholarships. In the cold war, the Soviet Union and the US competed for influence in Somalia. But the competing forces are now eminently more complex. * Financial times* Wondering why so many Qatars converging on Mogadishu. They not only investor in shell but produce gas & don't want Somaliland gas poping up.
  8. British oil companies lost their concessions in Somaliland which instead was given to turks, norwegians etc, and this what followed since then....a british change of heart: Britain demanded all Brits evacuate SL as its haven for terrorists, then armtwisted to attend the London conference and David Cameroon hastily called Silanyo to see him.It sent it's foreign secretary and a new ambassador to Mogadishu a week later when the meeting bear no fruits.A new British envoy to Somalia was appointed by Banki Moon under British pressure and just yesterday Somaliland airspace was put under Mogadishu control. Now will poor Africa defenders in this site make an issue of the British interests in Somalia as it clearly is a policy backed by BP & Shell companies. haha great day for unionists, doesn't matter as long as somaliland is tamed:mad:

Homunculus;949953 wrote: Somaliland doesn't fully control SSC and this will hamper any agreements made by the SL government since the people there will ask for a greater share of the wealth, and regarding oil production I was talking about the short term, Somalia will award blocks the size of countries and they will be waiting years for oil companies to dig oil. Genel energy ,ophir are neither in khatumo territory,DNO is only less than 1/3 in khatumo.Actually SL without Khatumo has more oil than any otha region and more companies r coming.Khatumites can keep their wealth.

  11. With the exception of Stalingrad & Berlin in 1940s, no city in the world let alone Africa have seen the level of destruction Mogadishu went thru. Kudos .A testament to the will & resilience of man kind & especially the Somali race.

  14. as repugnant as rape is there r a lot young women who stay late parting, going about their business & create false alarms in the morning when confronted by parents...I will dismiss more than 1/2 of the statistics.
