Ruling party fully supports the agreement with Ethiopia, while still nobody has seen the MoU nor knows the content of the agreement being cooked. It seems one is banking solely on selling ‘recongnition’ to the public for elections purposes, irrelevant of real dis/advantages this deal will bring for Somaliland.

Abiy seems to be turning the tables and pitting the neighbouring countries against eachother to make concessions to Ethiopia. But if they are further pushed against a wall, they might resort to establishing an OPEC like cartel on Ethiopian trades, making agreements on tariffs to apply for Ethiopian imports and exports.

Xaaji, who gave you get the authority or audacity to speak on behalf of Somaliland. You can’t speak on behalf of Ardul Somaal and its people. Your sub-clan is only one of the many who live there, you do not have larger population numbers then others, you do not own larger portions of land or livestock then others. Surely you are allowed to voice your personal opinion, but It’s not worth any more than Saalax’s, Talaabo’s, Galbeedi’s, Ilyria’s or mine in the total equation of what’s best for the region. For we are all inhabitants and Co-owners of Ardul Somaal(Somaliland) and none of us has been bestowed the Crowns to rule or dominate over others, for we are not like the Gulf Family’s who established family based monarchies over their territories.

Xaaji, as usual you are abducting the debate to create this false notion of dialectics of either your version of Somaliland or it’s the bunker. This manipulation of the populous has worked for a while, but I think everyone is now seeing the futility of this narrow ideology. I suggest you better listen to those young people from Hargeisa that are very rationally debating that other pathways are possible for Somaliland. For otherwise the alternative migth be that people will resort in blowing up the whole thing, as they have come to belief in the zero-sum black and white thinking you and elites have propagating for decades.

Future Somaliland President leader of the Rajo Party
Arafaat replied to Xaaji Xunjuf's topic in Politics
Xaaji, your support promoting this unknown ‘urur’ and potraying as ‘heavyweights’, is well noted. Not sure what your intentions here are, is it because your trying to prevent a Wadani takeover? And what happened to Ahmed Ismail Samater and his party that you used to promote, or Kaah with all the former Kulmiye members, or did they join the oppositions bandwagon as well. -
Excellent debate and many rational voices from Hargeisa.

Future Somaliland President leader of the Rajo Party
Arafaat replied to Xaaji Xunjuf's topic in Politics
I don’t see a difference between his speech and the current politics of cadifad. I am guessing Kulmiye gave birth to this as well, same as half of those so called parties. -

So another Xisbi of ‘cadiifiin’ -
I think SL has been quite without a rudder the last few years, like a steerless ship in the ocean. Nearly every single decision made by its leadership and every single action embarked on by the government has been defying every logic and default going against its own social contract. Even before Las Anod, things started going in to the wrong direction from when they starting deporting people from Las Anod and Erigavo, and when the state that was built for three decades made in to a personal fiefdom. it’s moral compass has been completely defunct. Somaliland ‘moral’ wee kacday, Meesha loo socdo lama garaniyo.

Not sure why facts are being distorted, but Tanzania has dedicated dry port area for goods destined to Zambia, and did not give away land for Zambia to develop as it sees fit, but uses Tanzanian Ports. Why the need joining East African Community now?
Arafaat replied to Miskiin-Macruuf-Aqiyaar's topic in Politics
Interesting topic for discussion. Somalia has land borders with both Kenya but also with Ethiopia/Djibouti, even thought Kenya and other EAC are major destinations for Somali investments, in terms of trade the flow with Ethiopia/Djibouti is many times greater then with Kenya. Also high nr of mobility and flow of people crossing borders is high, reinforced by the Somali regions across the borders in both Kenya and Ethiopia. So considering all these factors and many more, Somalia should embark on a trajectory of balancing economic(and thus political) integration with both Kenya(and EAC block) and Ethiopia(Horn of Africa hinterland Djibouti, Eritrea, Sudan) which are involved in the initiative to form a Horn of Africa initiative to form a regional block (hosted and likely to successes IGAD). -
The assertion of Yufle ayaa joognaa, arming ciidamo madani (clan militias) and heshiis Ethiopia will be Somalilands survival, does reek of a past history in 1989s after the former regime lost control in much of the North, started arming clan militias, government army retreating to a few bases in the North and entering in to agreement with a even more desperate Derg regime in Ethiopia that was also on the brink of collapse. Now I am not equating Somaliland government to the former regime, but one has to admit that some of the recent actions and politics remind of those failed actions of a regime that has lost all touch with political realities. Xaaji, if one is really serieus about Somaliland, shouldn’t the priority and focus be on engaging with SSC-Khaatuma, working on reconciliation and the release of the prisoners? Instead spending all that energy on holding on to power and delaying elections, entertaining Abiy’s dreamed Red Sea and entertaining clan based defences of the state?

I sense that’s what Abiy is also hoping for and preparing for, a war against Eritrea and hoping to unify Ethiopians in the toppling of the regime and catching of the sea there. He desperately hopes for a National cause to win, and this recipe has been successfully tried before by TPLF.

You must be joking. It’s about staff in Presidency most being same sub-clan, and in Somaliland it’s much worser. Bishaare Baandhe made even reporting on that, and got arrested for publishing the actual numbers.

She could have made her point without stating “kuwa Somali sheeganiya”, and therefor jumping in the midst of the heated and inciting populist and polarising Somali internal political strive. Words tend to have a powerful effect and one should be cautious when uttering words in public and when in a public position. I think that’s her only mistake, which should be forgiven and for her learn from it in the future. A small speech to the Somali constituents and audience should be sufficient, in which she repeats her own stand and US position on issue, but shows she is not part of the polarising sides and advises to resolve things among Somali’s by calling for genuine dialogue between Somaliland and Somalia. abaayo hawshaada wado, case closed!

There were times that many Somali’s thought or assumed that the collapse of the state would lead to a much better alternative or times for everyone’s, which wasn’t the case across the board. And there were times that many believed waging a war against Ethiopia will lead to the unity of the Somali people and on the contrary the opposite happened and it led to disintegration. So let us not assume this false that Ethiopian disintegration is in Somalia’s interest or Somali’s interest. Better focus on what’s in the interest of the Somali region, and I still think that one shouldn’t just wait for the outcomes of the power politicking in Addis, but think, conceive and nurture an alternative political pathways and narrative for the Somali region, such as seising the opportunity to steer the strengthening of economic, business, social and cultural ties between Somali region(Kilinka) and rest of Somali peninsula.

You have a point here, but still we need to put it in to perspective, in order not to loose sight of factors driving context and conditions. Two things that seem to affect some people giving the benefit of the doubt to the leaders, irrelevant of the soundness of decisions taken or supporting I like himself, as you stated here. The first is clan, as a clannish based society impulses as ‘ficil, hiil iyo dhiig’ are factors at play that can’t be discounted from the equation. And second factor is that conditions experienced by people statelessness, conflict and warthorn, would make some people always remain loyally and even cheer, and support to whatever leaders decide, as the cost of their perceived alternative is simply to high. We shouldn’t loose this ability to reason, understand, and put in to context human behaviour, as otherwise we might loose ourselves in to ‘them vs us’ thinking, and that’s when we step in to the ultimate trap set by Ibliis himself.

Why do many Somali’s get triggered when non-Somali’s have an outspoken view or opinion Somali political developments, and automatically assume personal interest or connection at play. Not talking necessarily about Xunjuf, but seen many others frequently become triggered when they encounter non-Somali voice views and opinions. And it’s not like Somali’s don’t have an outspoken opinion about other countries politics and issues and always take a neutral stands. Sheick iyo Shariif wax kasta fikir ayee ka qabaan .

Cigaal wanted a genuine reconciliation effort but was sabotaged and undermined by IOG, but also by Calan Cas(today’s Kulmiye), Abdiqasim Salat and his warlord cliques. The same folks that are in power today in Hargeisa, Mogadishu and Djibouti, and who have no desire for reconciliation, state building or stability of the region but are driven mainly and pre-occupied with robbing the few meager resources. The same folks that enter in to an agreement for reconciliation, and resolving things on Friday only to backstab and abandon their commitments before it’s even Monday.

Next Ethiopian War: Eritrea/Amhara vs Tigray/Abiy
Arafaat replied to Che -Guevara's topic in Politics
Even some calling for Eritrea-Amhara-Tigray Christian alliance against the Oromo, not sure how feasible that is on the short run but definitely on the long run Oromo expansionist politics might lead to a dangerous reshaping of regional dynamics.
