Gaas is expected to address the media in Abu Dhabi
Old_Observer replied to Holac's topic in Politics
This whole post from you was admirable, fair minded and practical. Why I specifically quoted this part is I have never been so hateful to the Bedew as that sentence being uttered in what I consider my kins and folk even if Djibouti is a country of its own. The Tigray that you curse and cuss so much here have done 2 things just for principle and identity politics and no economic or other benefits. 1. When Qatar behaved with animousity to Djibouti including terrorism Ethiopia cut diplomatic relations with Qatar. The opposition in Ethiopia diaspora was in uprour saying that Weyannie is making enemies fr Ethiopia. I hope you remember this. 2. When Sudan was strangled with sanctions and made almost impossible for her to contact other governments. Ethiopia refused to join the IC club that wnated Al Bashir and many officials arrested. No seat in that club and Al Bashir can do his diplomatic work in Addis Ababa or Meqelle without any problem like the one he faced in South Africa. UAE is doing its best to try and achieve day light between Ethiopia and Djibouti. Its succeeding to a degree, with help of America and Saudi Arabia, but not to a level of endangering Djibouti so far. Not only Ethiopians, but even Eritreans I know were so humiliated by that word "humanizing Djibouti" from a Bedew with dollars. -
Politicians are making a big deal of it. This whole thing is again and again based on the constitution, constitution, constitution... Mugadishu is 2 in 1. When some people say Mugadishu in terms of political power they mean federal government But when most people say Mogadishu in terms of influence and real power they mean the other Puntlands of Somalia. Only clear constitution of the status of Mogadishu can clear up for everyone and open to public. Example: kilil Somalis in the kilil were accusing each other of being a traitor over idealism and not realism. After a lot of life and limb, after so much being left behind, to the extent survival of the people was threatened, people and politicians learned to shelf idealism and deal with reality. This was victory for both sides. The Somali people govern themselves with near total autonomy, this safeguards the identity in culture, language and many intangible identity issues. As long as this is maintained and developed the kilil people are ready for anything that can happen. From being a kilil in Ethiopia to being a country if need be. This satisfied the side that wnated independence, join Somalia or anything in between. The other side that has idealism of succeeding in Ethiopia or even be greater in commerce, politics of Ethiopia also has a solid base to fall back to and takes advantage of what ever is available in Ethiopia. The catch was both sides needed a constitutional guarantee. And both got what they wanted in federalism and article 39 which is legal basis if the Somali decides to go a different way than others in Ethiopia. Even in paper legalizing or constitutionalizing something should be a start. Everything else is fakery and hidden fights that has no intention of coming out in the open. Qatar and UAE are same for Somalia. Why someone who changed friend to Qatar is nationalist and one who changes to UAE is traitor is beyond belief and the fact that people buy into this is beyond comprehension to me. The more this goes on becomes even more dangerus since all north and south Somalia will be on one side and central and Mogadishu (the real power behind not the public face SFG) will be another side. 1990s poltitical alignments all over again. That is why Mogadishu will always delay the real debate Constitution, until the day it feels powerful enough to dectate issues to others. So many gimmick fights in parliament, in government will go on until that is achieved. It was the same in Ethiopia. Would have been impossible to have federalism working if it had to wait to Addis Ababa. Federalsim in Ethiopia was baked and ready to eat in the fields of Qebri Dahar, Asyhita, Negash and presented accepted and now being practiced. In my view Somalia can only succeed if something gets cooked in Baidoa or other similar places and imposed on Mogadishu. The same way America or Canada and every other country succeeded including Turkey surviving loss collapse of Ottomans.

Egypt new warning Ethiopia over Nile River dam
Old_Observer replied to Old_Observer's topic in Politics
The Egyptians just found out their worst nightmare. The Egyptians had thought they have partly succeeded in having chaos in Ethiopia and the Oromo were their best chance, but the Tigray have proven to be more resiliant. The Amhara could not influence things in favour of Egypt to kick out Tigray, who Egypt consideres an enemy, from influence. GERD will continue on schedule Ethiopian schedule. This has been confirmed by the new prime minister. Sudan is quite pleased with the results. The Egyptians have now started saying "we have been misunderstood, I did not threat militarily, we will never use force (as if they can) yada yada yada. -
Nobody is worried about nuclear north korea except two countries, Japan and Israel. The Japanese are worried since even South Korea is not so friendly to them and Israel is worried that it could be Iran nuclear that could be going on there. The rest is all part of the economic war between US and China. South Korea also needs this economic line through North into Russia and Europe route under construction. My 2 cents.

Gaas is expected to address the media in Abu Dhabi

Unless Somalia considers Ethiopia strategic enemy and follows enemy of my enemy is friend and elevates the friend to strategic friend, this thing has never made sense for 2 centuries. One thing is for sure, it has brought catastrophic failures for Somalia with not a single help or worry from Egypt even during famine. Egypt does more business with Ethiopia, yet Egypt wants Somalia to do the fighting against Ethiopia for her. You do not need to put down Qatar to elevate UAE. That in my view is wrong approach. I understand Arabs are like high school children in their diplomacy and give greatest place to money. In this they are all the same. Egypt is beggar like Ethiopia or Somalia, actually Egypt is worst beggar with not a shred of dignity. The historical alliance of Egypt you speak of is not Egypt its Otoman Egypt. Egypt has never been Egypt for 2000 years now, except with Jamal Abdelnassir. If its the Arab league, its the choice of Somalis in the republic, but countries like Djibouti or now Eritrea do not take it beyond some club of empty talk and resolutions meaningless. -
Why would someone and claiming to be a Somali, organize this knowing full well that few days before Ramadan starts, there is an open conference of the kilil where literaly every segment of the kilil participates. Society's grievance are openly aired. Government ministers all have to be there and answer every question from a water well, to roads, schools, health clinics, justice, etc. Its done every year and is an example other kilil's are copying. I will show you here what an Amhara portal put as headlines. This portal and sites attached to it, has never ever printed or shown videos of anything positive that happened in the kilil. Translation: "In Deghabuur, in Shinnille, in Jijiga the rebellion is getting stronger all the time. Liyu has been unleashed on the people. Down Down Abdi Iley" This site is like the stormfront for Ethiopia. Most collection of chauvinists children of Menelik, most angry that Ethiopians can preserve and if they can deveop their languages and culture and most of all self governing. No more district governors being sent from Shiwa/Amhara to the zones of the Somali or anyone else. Their main slogan is "one Ethiopia, one language, one culture, one identity" and some of their members one religion.

Me thinks this issue got mixed up with the issue of Speaker. As there is never an issue or opportunity a politician wastes some used and mixed up the internal and external issues. Actually this occasions may turn out to be useful and helpful to SFG. I have the feeling that, SFG might even have discussed with the two governors before they visited UAE. You need some channel to calm down and put things in perspective and the right weight.

Old_Observer replied to Old_Observer's topic in Politics
The new prime minister is still touring the country: 1. Somali 2. Oromo 3. Tigray 4. Amhara 5. South Not sure when and where he will visit the Afar. The capital Semera is a new city founded some 20 years ago and has university and Afar government and very small population. -
Sierra Leone’s police officers deployed in Jubbaland
Old_Observer replied to Deeq A.'s topic in Politics
Each contributing country has a European or American sponsor. I have no doubt Sieraleone is British sponsored. The great idea you have can only be done as follows: The SFG should convince IGAD and the Somalia group that includes US, France, Britain, and others The SFG should come up with detailed plan and budget Failing that this plan and budget should be asked of individual countries to sponsor it, like Scandinavian countries can each sponsor a region, Canada can sponsor a region. Ethiopian police in the begining and until now gets training and money from Britain Ethiopian Justice ministry was at one time totally sponsored by Canada. The plan must be totally accepted by the communities in that region and have safeguards to prevent clanism, corruption, nepotism etc. A lot of opponents do not tell, but the success of Liyu in the kilil is that it is exact reflection of all the communities in the kilil, the indoctrination was Somali peoples kilil constitution, Somali kilil peopeles history. Training was done professionally and very much free as free as can be from clanism, nepotism, corruption and paid on time, armed as best as possible, kept active all times participating in development and building comradeship and also interest of people and benefits to people kilil. I don't think Jubbaland has this capacity, but can train in the kilil if that is acceptable to the communities in Jubbaland. -

Wouldn't you wish your Djibouti brother to help with same culture and also get paid by others? I have nothing against Nigeria or Zambia, but Sudan is much closer than them. Just saying. -
Egypt new warning Ethiopia over Nile River dam
Old_Observer replied to Old_Observer's topic in Politics
There is something called reality. Past or present. Egypt has never defeated any Ethiopian from skirmishes to big battles to wars. That is the folklore those are the facts. The leaked tape from Mohamed Mursi's national security meeting is proof positive. They discussed all possiblities and at the end the conclusion was that Egypt can only fight Ethiopia from with in finding an ally clan or neighbouring country. Even that is now downing on Egypt that will not bring desired results. That is the folklore and that is the fact. Both Eritrea and Sudan has told the Egyptians military option is closed no way. -
I am still same position until this whole thing is settled down. Maybe they will ask the Russians or Israelis to upgrade the software. Actually too much Oromo Oromo including the pictures posted made the whole thing a farce. Somalis were so disappointed including those who had great questions about the expansion of the capital, the changes in development plan and the grading of priorities etc. The people do not have facebooks, but some elders even spoke publicly that the whole thing was disrespectful of the Somali. Elections are due for towns and zones and districts, unless the Federal government postpones them as well. Get ready you have time. Even if Iley retires, the system is set to continue same style at least for next president. There is nothing worst than this situation in the creation of countries that really disappoints me even with current governments. They could make land swap and at least have a big size of any people in one country. You can see in Europe as well with Holland and Belgium and France and Belgium, so much so Belgium did not have government for 2 years, was run by beaurocrats. Split people by borders, through no fault of their own is the ultimate injustice. Especially when they are made small here small there small everywhere.

Sierra Leone’s police officers deployed in Jubbaland

It is, but I wish Djibouti and Sudan were included. The Liyu would have done great job, but considering that area and the kilils aignment of the stars is not practicable or helpful. -
Gaas is expected to address the media in Abu Dhabi
Old_Observer replied to Holac's topic in Politics
I would say look at it differently. Example: Do you know what was the most frightening thing for Ethiopians in the last one year? Each had their questions, their objectives and even demos injuries deaths...lost properties...All that was manageable. The one thing all sides were scared to death was the Somali and Afar were so quiet. Most Ethiopians accepted the SOE even the Oromo with some opposition simply because if the Somali and Afar came out and said that "we have had enough of this we are leaving", no one and i mean no one would know what to do or even what to say. It was greatest relief when both Abdi Iley and Haj Seyum spoke about the SOE and other matters. You should look at it from the other side. If Puntland was not tolerant of the time and resource being wasted in the Capital, not quietly waiting for the federal to stand on its feet...what do you reckon would happen? Sould consider all aspects in such a complicated situation and structure. -

Are you agreeing to the capability of Egypt to destroy Ethiopia. That would be shocking if it happens. I don't know how much Arab influence you have, but from my experience Arabs are known for this kind of culture. Maybe you do not know, but the only peoples in Ethiopia that fought Egypt happen to be the Tigreans (Agew, Afar and 4 peoples now in Tigray kilil, Eritreans) through the centuries, whether Egypt on its own or as protectorate and colony of different empires. -

Some here are forgetting that the man is President of Puntland. Its a region that has under Somalia, its own specific interests and development plans that may not be same with next region. Example; Security maybe no.1 priority in Puntland, but education maybe no.1 priority other region. The man is first and for most accountable, responsible for his state. Attracting investment is his job. This is logical, true and fact. If Abdi Iley said this for Addis Ababa and kilil no Ethiopian would even question. It is actually very profound truth and reality put in a concise and clear way. Every state Governor in America says this on Washington, Every province premier says this about Ottawa Canada, Scottish PM says this about British government westminister.. Why is this even being questioned by some? -
Foreign Police from Many African countries in Somalia

great admirable attitude. -
funny Are you advising him what to say or prempting him and denying him to use that cover of medical He also mght play a constructive role in calming and civilizing the disagreement between the two countries. Individuals can sometimes be good conduit. There is also nothing to prevent him as there is no restrictions issued by SFG and I am sure businessmen from Mogadishu have not been affected in their relations with UAE officials

Low ranking civil servant That is both funny and cruel. It says nothing about competence, just that the man was not party hack and minister in the government. Says nothing if the man worked in the water projects, the success story the federal government and federal parliament wanted to teach and train all kilils on project management on time on budget and quality completion. 93 dams within 2 years unheard of in any history in Ethiopia. It says nothing if the man was working in the health care and education sectors success stories in the region It syas nothing if one time or another the man worked on security and police departments. What is low, what is high in this regard? What is his education, what is his experience...all that not wanted to come out. Even Mr. Olad's Jigjiga Herald missed proper conduct in reporting on this issue.

You also have another ally now in the Habesha website who see an opportunity to sound their hate on the Somali kilil government. The Habesha site was the most vitriolic on the kilil for the last 12-13 years, ever since the Habesha site realized that the Somali was putting house in order and becoming force to be reconed with. Now they think they have opportunity to do away with kilil's. The Habesha com has main objective to do away with kilil's and have unitary government in Ethiopia. Too bad for all these groups coming from different interest or past history raining on the kilil and trying to use legitimate greviance of people. Most of them are not even interested in good governance issues, they just do not want a self governing Somali. Some of the opposition is clan issues, but allied with groups who have very destructive aims. They are so despicable for me to post here their articles and false pictures, but you would be glad to know that what they wrote includes: "until we went to broadcast this news the exchange of fire and gun battles is raging"

galbeedi, The editor for Jigjiga Herald is not me. It is: About Mohamed Olad Mohamed Olad is the editor-in-chief at jigjigaherald.com. He can be reached at Mohamedolad88@gmail.com. You can also follow him on twitter @oladmohamed or mohamed.olad2 on Facebook. He was professor in Jigjiga and other university in Ethiopia. He now lives in USA. I know you really hated the guy when he exposed what Oromo governemnt and police did during the massacre, but he was proven right since most of those officials are in Jail. He is a no holds barred critic of government or Jawar and his Somali supporters like you. He is not blinded by hate of Illey and clan politics to forget human side of incidents. I wish I had the capability, education and wisdom of Mohamed Olad.

The latest country to deploy Police is Sieraleone in Kismayo Jubaland State. Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia are already in Somalia. This is not countries volunteering with their own resources. Its part of AMISOM and are paid by UN, US, EU and others. Wouldn't it have been preferable to bring from Djibouti if Somalia did not want Ethiopians or Sudan? When there are some of the best equiped best trained police forces close by like Liyu why go to west Africa and Southern Africa where the culture and language is far apart and not so easy for Police. There is some group or power in Mogadishu who is in real close friendship with Uganda. That country has its Army and now its Police in Somalia. Have your say.
