I am afraid you are just buying more bitterness and more separation for nothing. What does Somalia benefit by denying or actually just delaying foreign aid? You will not stop USAID or Inernational development agencies of Canada, Britain, Australia. Lobying one parliamentarian which Somalilanders can do is enough for their foreign offices to find a way. This is an example where some Somalis put effort on pointless politics. This is nothing like UAE/Ethiopia Berbera deal. If Somaliland stays in Somalia, at least you have a region that is better, If Somaliland separates you have millions of Somali who are better than some. Either way its benefit to Somali people.

First split happened: Some Somali said this should be WSLF war and never Somalia war and even the SNA should only fight in Ethiopia as volunteers and members of WSLF. Those were demoted, arrested and few disappeared. 2nd split happened: We should not withdraw. We were defeated as regular army, but not as the Somali people's liberation struggle therefore should continue as irregular fighters of WSLF. Too late for them. President Barre then was at mercy of Mengistu. He had already signed to kenya that no Somalia govt will interfere with NFD. And agreed same with Ethiopia in Djibouti and in Yemen. Those who wanted to continue the war by other means were obstacle to this. Had President Barre left these folks to fight or even just stay around doing political work, even if kililka would not separate, but the Somali in Ethiopia would have had better position in 1991 and better deal from the begining. It took about 15 years to get the Somali in Ethiopia in a reasonable and almost respectable position. All this for mistakes of President Barre and greed of some kililka people that supported his decision blindly.

But the issue is quite serious. In 1994 some journalist in Europe studied why Italian companies were getting lots of contracts from Europe and even America for hazardeous waste disposal. The secret was these compaies had agreements with locals around Somalia and Eritrea. Djibouti was always protected and also does not have sea. That helped. Even Kenya was not protected from this mafiosi business.

That is simply propaganda. TPLF, OLF, ONLF and later EPRDF had supported Eritrean independence since 1978. It was also Meles (was another leader of TPLF named Sebhat old man) that saved Isayas from his base in border of Sudan being over run by Ethiopia. My point was because not liking Ethiopia we should not automatically be so praising Isayas. 4,000 Somali have reached Eritrea in 90s. Guess how they were received. No work permit, have to pay exorbitant amoun for UN travel document, Eritrea receives dollars but gives the Somali in Nacfa and never allows the refugee's local committee to work directly with UN agency. There isstill camp near Massawa with few hundred Somalis to this date. In Ethiopia: The committee of the camp works directly with UN. Somalis that can afford to travel have easily accessible Travel document, some even Ethiopian citizenship, have schools, some were settled and given farm lands. OK its hard to compare since in Ethiopia the Somalis from the republic are among their people, but still compare it to Kenya and Eritrea its night and day. There is more than 100,000 Somalis from the republic in Addis Ababa with full work permit that allows them to work and live like locals. Lets not just go by enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Mourad1, I have no problem of you supporting an Oromo, but I am afraid thinking the Oromo will have different interest in Somalia or with Somali people in general, other than that Ethiopia as a country has is mistaken. The Oromo might even have more of what you think Ethiopia had in the past history. Somalia is in no position to stop USAID, ID Britain, CIDA...But the shear inconvenience will generate so much bitterness not easy to forgive. How parallel Ethiopia and Somalia were going. There were officers in Ethiopia who said that the war in Eritrea should have been done in Tigray. They were proven right. Mengistu sent 60,000 in one battle in Eritrea, were close to expelling EPLF from its base and operating area, then the Tigray sent some 4,000 and defeated the Ethiopian army. Then a coup was attempted. When it failed some generals who were shot were run over by tank. So that they would be really dead as if machine gunning them did not kill them. Then shortly in about 2 years the whole thing folded. These two countries differences was months some Somalia first then happens in Ethiopia and some Ethiopia first then happens in Somalia. In Ethiopia people have nearly forgotten Derg Military. A generation that does not know anything is now almost close to power, education, some development and different kind of politics. If only Somalia can have a government even a bad one, since people will be united against bad government. People would have been so busy with development and economy would be less of what we are doing in this thread.

People in kililka hardly talk about 77 war. There is not much official or public information or commonly agreed information. There is no clear direction so far. Things have not taken shape. Everybody wanting Tigray dead body is one thing, but what do I get out of it is the most important. GERD could have brought 2 billion a year and was planned to start 700MW this year. Not happening. No body mentions it. Egyptians all of a sudden not writing single word about it. I think is delayed if not canned. For kililka this happened at wrong time. Roads, dams were moving fast now is slowing, because the federal government has put on hold all programs, especially anything that needed imported parts.
