  1. There was 2 and then one candidate in the primary, but they agreed to and anointed her to be sole candidate from the community and all supported her to win the primary and then the election.
  2. Very disappointing for all Somali people everywhere, but not surprising. Coffee time in Amxara Kilil with Afwerki and Abiy was sheer stupidity when you have the Turkish willing and capable to help you, but you go for Coffee time in Eritrea and Amxara two areas where Afwerki has openly stated Turish should be kicked out of Suakin/PortSudan and the Amxara had burned some Turkish businesses in their resistance to Tigray/Ethiopia. Replacing AMISOM with Eritrea was a non starter. Ghelleh must have given Farmaajo .....with that Somali smile. Turkish will not mind if Farmaajo is gone, they can work with anyone that is effective. The worst thing of all was what was done in SWS. Using childish method in an adults world. Not only Farmaajo even Abiy received a "dirty" look from the Army.
  3. Me agrees totally. Regardless of the Irridentists, Somalilanders "hate" on SSDF the relations between Somalia and Ethiopia have always been: USC with Mengistu/Derg/Oromo-Amxara (So much so Ethiopia brought Aideed from India and made him leader, because the mistrust they had with Somaliland and knowing full well SSDF had solid relations with Tigray/Kililka) SSDF with Tigray/Kililka Somaliland Most independent and furthest distance Djibouti with Kililka/Afar and Tigray and mutual respect and fear of each other with Somaliland. This still continues. Eritrea is typical Arab style where leaders can act like spoiled children and then war and next brother brother kissings cycle of dictator behavior continues. Abiy Afwerki is already stumbling since both Oromo and Tigray are not happy about the shenanigan.... Farmaajo failure is not being eble to do anything he either agreed to do or was assigned. He failed Somalia with Turkish. There was some well thought out ambitious programs and Farmaajo could not do his part. Abiy got in trouble in SWS. The Ethiopian army was very disappointed with Abiy. He used Ethiopian soldiers to do a job Formaajo should have done. No body can blame them if they throw Farmaajo under the bus. These are people in a hurry. On a mission from America and UAE. UAE is running out of time. They need Somaliland. They could be kicked out of Yemen if the war stops. Eritrea even if it gives them sea and land is of no use, Eritrea is inside red sea not at the gates.
  4. Now tel me if you are not proud of him as a Somali that everywhere he travels countries are scrambling to find out why. He goes to Kenya and people are asking why, what does he have in Kenya. He goes to Ethiopia meets Sudan and Eritrea is wetting its something. He goes to Mogadishu and all HoA is asking why at this time...everyone turned to investigator. That in itself makes him appear more smarter than Afwerki which he is, more matured and calmer than Abiy which he is, more dignified than all of them which he is.
  5. Hello Suldaanka, You don't need all that historical analysis. Me thinks the reason is simple: Afwerki and Bixi have been instructed by UAE. What the instructions are will be seen in few days. One thing I am confident of Somaliland is no matter what has never thrown a fellow Somali under the bus and if they have to they always warn a brother first like with ONLF. Somaliland is an exception to the prevailing situation where enclaves are throwing each other under this or that bus. Somaliland has never done any wrong to fellow Somalis by siding with non Somalis whether with Tigray Ethiopia, Oromo Ethiopia, Djibouti for or against..... Of all Somali enclaves Somaliland is the least to be played by Afwerki and he knows it.
  6. Abiy is using Somalia for the wrong reasons just to look big in the world while having mountains of problems at home. Farmaajo has joined the wagon and made things worst. He made Somalia loose the momentum that was started with the Turkish. That for no benefit to Somalia from the other side.
  7. That is what extreme hate can do to you. There is a million crappy things about Ethiopia, but Ethiopian airlines is an exception to the rule. Its the only corporation that is in competition with European, Asian and American, in the world of its area, air transportation. From Brazil, to Canada, to Middle East or Norwey, to Japan/China...its everywhere in competition with the best. Denying them your business is acceptable, but denying they are something to look up to is madness. In a few years you will see how they will build Air Djibouti as regional airlines and Djibouti airport as a major hub. The sooner Air Somalia invites them with shares, the better since many African airlines are doing the same. When Djibouti becomes share holder in Ethiopian airlines, Kenya airways will go down and become partly owned by Ethiopian and Djibouti.
  8. He is Tigray. Actually both the Amxara and to some degree Oromo accuse the Tigray of being more than 65 percent of the employees. Actually it ended up raising their reputation. Its Boeing that has suffered. Ethiopians sending the black box to France and not getting rail roaded by America brought them also some respect.
  9. That is fake propaganda and you my friend have fallen for it. The Jewish are actually the ones defending her. The more the issue is raised the more Americans and especially the Trump voters are siding with her. That is what is happening on the ground and that is why everybody wants to stop the whole issue. The propaganda that you fell for was tried by FOX and look what happened to them. Most times in history the most underestimated have come through. I like galbeedis saying here "better live a day like a lion, rather than long time chickened out, submissive, slave..etc"
  10. As you might have noticed in the conference, majority of Somalis everywhere do not want AMISOM to leave, becouse no one is ready no one has the capacity to rule/keep/ maintain the place. The only ones who want AMISOM to leave are the ones who want to give Somalia to other countries than the ones in AMISOM now. Those of you who want AMISOM to leave are the ones who want to give Somalia to Ethiopia Oromo/Eritrea Xabeshi. You are not ready. you don't have the capacity, to rule the place yourself. Ghelleh was asked by AMISOM countries mainly Uganda and by Somalis mainly Puntland to tell Farmaajo to cool down his project of replacing AMISOM countries one by another. This can lead to next civil war and chaos. It has already shown in SW what can be expected if Eritrea/Ethiopia replace AMISOM. As you might have observed Ethiopia is in transition to the unknown. Among the Oromo the strongest is the one that wants independence and can only settle for real autonomous federalism as minimum. Eritrea is the biggest headache for Ethiopia whether as a province or an independent country. The two states in Ethiopia that have the most say in what happens with Eritrea, as you know are Tigray and Afar. By geography, by population and by politics and interests, those are the two determinant states. Both happen to be least involved in what is happening in Ethiopia. America has stumbled in Ethiopia. It so happened that the changes in Ethiopia happened at the same time major changes happened in America. Both Defense and Foreign affairs heads in America changed. Both Secretaries of Defense and State gone. The Amxara were connected to old in America and the current ones in America have different tactics and methods of working. Ghelleh is no in trouble as you and Oodweyne think. He is actually close to getting a relief from all that scary clouds over him. He was smart enough to use the small light between Saudis and UAE. He was smart enough to deny Abiy and Afwerki both the Afar and Somali from being used as tool against him. He is always smart enough not to cut or damage his relations with the Somaliland people while having some manageable friction with the government. Example he is never against development in Somaliland or business of Salamanders. He is also smart to realize the British are in need and is getting close to them. The French are in big trouble themselves and they need him more than he needs them. The navy for Ethiopia was actually a business venture to start. It was started more than a decade ago and they have trained enough people that are working with merchant ships protection of other countries. I agree with you the mission is being changed to either against Djibouti or Somalia or unity with Eritrea. This is dead on arrival. The Tigray who started this navy idea and implemented it to some degree was only and only to participate in the world of commerce with ships and protection. The idea was to provide protection for countries that cannot do so themselves and be an organized mercenary and bring a lot of income. A force owned by Ethiopia but paid by others and bring profits to Ethiopia. It was like companies like Blackwater..etc with national flag. Very smart idea and Ghelleh was all for it. About 100 Somalis have been trained in the decade the program was running.
  11. This is what is called Modus Vivendi. Both Puntland and Somaliland knowing what tools to use and what tools to avoid in their quarrel. Rules of Modus Vivendi: Never use tools you cannot control or control the switch to turn ON OFF at will and as needed. Never use a tool that would instantly kill you if used against you. Never fight if you don't know where to STOP. Where to stop if you win and also where to stop if you lose. Folks like the colonel are once who have no objective of their own which means can be tool for anyone who has objective and supply. From someone for Somaliland Independence in a span of few months has gone to unitary Somalia skipping Federalism. Yet sitting in Puntland the home of Federalism. Just Think about it for a moment. The criterion for good Somali and bad Somali by enclaves: Somaliland: One who willing to negotiate including independence is good Somali. One who advocates to bring Somalis under one rule/government and thinks only of the lands regardless of people suffering or killed is bad Somali Puntland: One who governs himself and keeps connection of what is common is good Somali. One who wants to cut relations even for minimum what is common is less bad, but bad none the less. One who wants to have no autonomy of peoples lands is worst bad Somali. Where does the colonel stand on this. Everywhere and no where...Its easier for the colonel to be Shabab than Puntlander.
  12. galbedi, First of all much respect for working on something that is bigger than the day to day face book age waste of time and resources of the people. You also made it very clear for all the objectives and methods of activities around the conference. In my view this is equal to one historical conference that determined the fate of the Somali people, in terms of territorial organization for the last 70 years. The conference was held with support and push of the British Empire. Today's Salamanders had the biggest push on it and todays Puntland and SW were enthusiastic supporters, others neutral and some others totally opposed to it. Objective of that conference: To form one country for all Somali people except the ones in Djibouti. British Somaliland, Ethiopian Somaliland, Italian Somaliland, British/Kenya Somaliland. French Somaliland not included. Alighnment of foreign powers: British Empire: Very enthusiastic and had the connection through British Somaliland where the end product will be friend of the British Empire. French Empire: They were guaranteed that their later Djibouti, will not be affected, French Somalis will be left out of the project. (Most Somalis agreed to this since the belief that the French are there temporary and when one day they leave the Somalis can be brought to the fold either by splitting Djibouti or some arrangement. Italian Empire: Was supportive as long as it was guaranteed that its citizens in Somali lands are allowed to leave and own businesses there and not kicked out. Italy did not want the Sicilians returning humiliated from the colonies in Somalia and Eritrea to wreck havoc the homeland in Rome. Ethiopian Empire: Totally against the project I do not want to write the stance taken by the Somali people in terms of clans and regions. Suffice to say that strong opposition was from todays Somali state Ethiopia and todays Somalia republic regions some in central some in South. NFD was ok with the project since the British had done some homework and the Somalis that worked from the British Empire side have also done good work. The Addis Ababa conference reminded me of this and went back and did read again some of the 70 year ago conference of the Somali people from all parts. When I see some of the opposition to the Addis Ababa conference, it looks same. Everyone felt threatened. Yours is great ideal. In my view you are missing a very fundamental factor. The clans and tribes that opposed the union in the old conference are now for the most part states and regions with real power, organization, militia, foreign relations and foreign friends..etc. In short much stronger than 70 years ago. My suggestion would have been to choose a base. Djibouti and Somaliland are perfect support bases. But you cannot start by undoing their current status and structures. You cannot start by wanting Djibouti to be disregarding the Afar and cannot start wanting Somaliland to renounce its current structures. On the contrary you can only start by strengthening and supporting both Djibouti and Somaliland. At the very least that will make them neutral. At most will make them supporters. Learn from what happened 70 years ago to avoid repeating the same short comings. Situation is the same except now there is 3-4 times the population, 3-4 times the militia, wealth much lower since not many have 300-1000s of camels now, confidence is much lower as the nomadic culture gives way to city life. Other than that its noble idea and noble objective. My comment is based on current realities and past failures. Since your work is a much longer and coming generations work I can only say great. There is a saying in Xabeshi languages (I dont know which language has the copy write lol): Dropping what you are holding in your arm pit trying to get something over the cupboard.
  13. Black Boxes of Ethiopian Boeing 737 MAX to Be Analysed in France © REUTERS / Tiksa Negeri Africa 00:05 14.03.2019(updated 00:56 14.03.2019) Get short URL 0 120 The French aviation safety watchdog Bureau d'Enquêtes et d'Analyses pour la Sécurité de l'Aviation Civile (BEA) will analyse the black boxes of the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft which crashed on Sunday near Addis Ababa, the agency said Wednesday. "Ethiopian authorities have requested @BEA_Aero assistance for the analysis of FDR [flight data recorder] & CVR [cockpit voice recorder] / Any communication on the investigation progress is the responsibility of those authorities," BEA wrote on Twitter on Wednesday. Ethiopian Airlines previously refused to send the black boxes to the United States, where the Boeing 737 Max 8 was manufactured, The Globe and Mail reported Wednesday. US aviation authorities were among the latest to issue an emergency order to ground all Boeing 737 Max 8 and 737 Max 9 series aircraft following the deadly crash of an Ethiopian Airlines flight. READ MORE: FAA Finds Similarities in Ethiopia, Indonesia Boeing 737 MAX Crashes — Statement Earlier this week, the US Federal Aviation Administration insisted that the planes were safe, despite growing concerns after the latest crash of the aircraft. However, on Wednesday, the FAA said in an emergency order that an investigation into two deadly air accidents involving Boeing 737 Max aircraft had discovered "some similarities," which led to a temporary grounding of the entire 737 Max fleet in the US. FAA Says Boeing 737 MAX 'Airworthy' Despite 2nd Fatal Crash in Nearly 5 Months Earlier in the day, an Ethiopian Airlines spokesman said that the black boxes of the Boeing 737 Max 8 would be sent to Germany for analysis. However, German authorities said they would not conduct the decoding. On Sunday, a Boeing 737 Max 8, operated by Ethiopian Airlines, crashed minutes after takeoff from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, killing all 157 people from more than 30 countries on board. READ MORE: India Bans Entry, Transit of Boeing 737 Max 8 from Its Airspace © AFP 2018 / JOHAN NILSSON / TT NEWS AGENCY Norwegian Air Shuttle to Demand Boeing Pay for Grounding of 737 Max Aircraft The crash in Ethiopia was the second fatal incident involving the narrow-body aircraft in less than five months. In late October 2018, another Boeing 737 MAX 8, operated by Indonesia's Lion Air, plunged into the Java Sea shortly after takeoff, claiming the lives of 189 people. According to a preliminary investigation by Indonesia's airport authority, the plane's sensors were showing incorrect speed and altitude readings during another flight hours before the disaster. In the wake of Sunday's crash in Ethiopia, aviation authorities and carriers around the world, including in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, France, Germany, South Africa, the European Union, China and Russia, have either grounded all 737 Max 8 series aircraft or closed their airspace to them.
  14. CNN Host Says Ethiopian Plane Crashed Because of US Government Shutdown CC BY 2.0 / red, white, and black eyes forever / CNN Center US 01:18 14.03.2019(updated 01:21 14.03.2019) Get short URL 0 39 The unlikely connection did not survive fact checking, though. CNN host Brianna Keilar connected the Sunday crash of Ethiopian Airlines flight ET302 with the recent temporary government shutdown in the US. Talking with US Rep. Dan Kildee (D-MI) Wednesday, Keilar asserted that the plane crashed because Boeing had failed to implement a pilot software upgrade in January, as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was non-operational due to the shutdown. "So Boeing actually failed to provide a software fix for the flight system in the 737 MAX 8 until after that October crash," Keilar said. "There were pilots who looked at that and felt like this was a criminal omission. That was what they thought about this. " "The software fix, then, according to The Wall Street Journal, was supposed to happen in January, and it was delayed because of the government shutdown, because the FAA was offline," she continued before asking Kildee for his opinion. © REUTERS / Tiksa Negeri Black Boxes of Ethiopian Boeing 737 MAX to Be Analysed in France However, Keilar's assertion turned out to be factually incorrect, The Daily Caller reported. After checking the Wall Street Journal article the host referred to, the website discovered that Boeing did not provide the software update due to "differences of opinion and technical and engineering issues." In addition, the FAA was far from non-operational during the shutdown: according to The Daily Caller, thousands of FAA safety inspectors and other staff were recalled during the period in order to ensure the safety of flights across the nation. With regard to Boeing's software update delay, the FAA did not press the company on the matter, because at the time the administration felt there was "no imminent safety threat," The Wall Street Journal wrote in its article. The update in question, which is now scheduled to be deployed in April, will allow pilots greater control over the plane in emergency situations.
  15. I did not know the thread is the old one. Rubbing it in I guess. Looks like they will use Berbera for sorting containers as well. Those light yellow ones are not only good for loading on trucks and trains, but very fast for sorting sequence as well.
  16. Too much traveling is not only a sign, but proof positive that a leader has big problems at home he wants to escape. Ghelleh least travelling and relatively most comfortable with his home Abiy most traveling and one with most major problems at home. Ethiopia has 3.2 million internally displaced. A milllion in last 4 months alone some from Addis Ababa area itself. He did not go there but went to Juba for same case. Afwerki is not sleeping in the same place 2 consecutive nights, his defense minister was shot and is finished and few colonels in jail just recently. Farmaajo traveling on call from Afwerki or Abiy..a relief to get out of Mugadishu even for a day.. Kenya does not travel much to start with .. Kenyans now are terrified that Ethiopia will dominate everything in their country..Air travel, ground transportation, Electricity..etc and internally the Somali will in short years dominate (Somalis from Somalia, Ethiopia and of course NFD). Even Ghelleh is setting up shops in Kenya to export kenya meat and animals since he has over capacity in this area so much unused capacity.
  17. Puntland will not use him, will not even allow him there for long unless he is willing to go to the mountains and fight Shabab or he becomes unit of the Somalia army and fights Shabab. Djibouti and Ethiopia will not be permitting to the extent they can pressure, to start anything of war in the region. To the extent they can prevent, Djibouti and Ethiopia will not allow Somaliland and Puntland to go at it. That is a no no. Easy to start but can develop to unstoppable and then the whole region economy, livelihood and basically life can end in great disaster.
  18. lol That is an uphill one. Suldaanka vs. Al Jeesira, but in the internet age, why not you can try. I think Al Jeesira is better than BBC now for being propaganda, they are among the few media left that have some in depth info and analysis.
  19. US Senate Passes Resolution to End Military Support for Saudi-Led War in Yemen © AFP 2018 / Mladen Antonov US 01:23 14.03.2019(updated 02:02 14.03.2019) Get short URL The US Senate on Wednesday voted to pass a resolution to end US support for the Saudi-led war in Yemen. The measure passed with 54 for and 46 against. The resolution, which is co-sponsored by US Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Mike Lee (R-UT), among others, seeks to end any and all US involvement in the Saudi-led conflict, including providing targeting support for Saudi airstrikes in the war-torn country. It is now expected to be voted on in the US House of Representatives. The measure was put to vote under the War Powers Act, which allows the resolution to be fast-tracked through US Congress. Should it manage to successfully pass through both the Senate and the House, it would be the first time that lawmakers have tapped on the act to cease US military involvement in a foreign conflict. © REUTERS / Faisal Al Nasser Saudi Arabia, UAE Governments Reduce Harm to Civilians in Yemen – Pompeo US Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) recently told Washington-based publication The Hill that the vote could be "tight," but that the measure would be able to gain the required amount of vote to pass. However, the White House has stated that if the resolution were to land on US President Donald Trump's desk, he would veto it. A similar measure was introduced in the US House in February, however, as The Hill reports, it "ran into a procedural roadblock" when it got to the US Senate, and was not able to be voted on in a manner that would allow it to pass with a simple majority vote, which in the Senate requires a total of 51 yeas. The US, a longtime ally of Saudi Arabia, quietly began supporting the Saudi-led coalition in 2016, providing it with intelligence, weapons sales and air refueling support for planes operated by both Saudi Arabia and the UAE. However, in recent months Washington's support has been tested on account of the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
  20. Ethiopian Airlines was capable enough to withstand pressure from US and send the black box to France instead. Was the 4th country to ground the Maxx 8 fleet while US was trying to prevent the grounding of the Aircraft The Economic war: Who was first country to ground the Aircraft....CHINA Who is the next giant to enter the aircraft market with equal qualities features to Airbus 320 and Boeing 737 MAXX....CHINA already has 1000 in the order book Who were the first countries to send condolences and sympathy to Ethiopia...Russia, Israel, China, Turkish, Kenya.... Who came to witness the competence of Ethiopian technically....The Star Alliance In 1993 Ethiopian was transporting about 600000 passengers a year in the best of times...now transporting 10.3 million a year. It is not only Africa's largest, but has shares in more than 9 countries airlines in Africa, manages 3 other countries airlines under management contract, trains pilots, maintenance technicians and service personnel of 37 countries, has more than 50 Chinese hostes.... Every 5 year plan has been successfully implemented ahead of time and increased profitability in last 20 years.... Last year it entered the group of airlines with more than 100 aircraft...next target is to double that in 2 five year plans. Egypt Air, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria.....were all ahead of Ethiopian 10 years ago. Now Ethiopian airlines manages an airline in Nigeria and is now share holder in another. NEXT BIG PROJECT Brand new airport in Djibouti Djibouti Air to be regional feed and part owned and managed by Ethiopian Djibouti airport would be main hub for long flights from US and Canada, Brazil Argentina, China, Japan, Australia, Russia...etc If some of you have realized you can fly straight from china, US, Canada..to Ethiopia, but not the other way around. Reason is Ethiopia/Addis is 7000ft ASL and cannot load all fuel. That is why DJIBOUTI will be critical.
  21. Even in the extreme if Farmmajo secretly tried to cool off the issue, not even to give in or out, this chicken would not fly. But the optics of him flying to Addis for breakfast and dinner like Afwerki, which Farmaajos and Afwerki were blaming everybody else doing is terrible.
  22. Some Ethiopian Media are stating that the Ethiopian foreign minister has been forced out, but made to look as if he is wanted in international institution. Somebody has begged the Americans to pull him out. Not so secret. He is Tigrean. He changed his grand fathers name (same as last name in west) just 17 years ago. He was born in what is now Oromia and lived as Oromo. Also achieved acceptance as good for Oromo. Add that to the change of president in Amxara region and the sands are shifting.
  23. Build the road Kililka Somaliland that will bring together 10 million Somalis and other neighbors Don't panic, don't even bother to think regarding the show dog and pony for what goes in HoA. Never buy into the most abused words in the HoA today -regional integration -lol. Except for the road, port, common security..everything else is empty talk. With Ghelleh just talk through third person and maybe at weddings and heaven forbid burials of common friend or prominent person, never with dog and pony show kind of trips and visits. The sooner you finish the big projects the sooner you can approach Turkish, India...not China, Russia, Iran....those are too toxic at this time. Even India, Britain, Turkish are dangerous as America is pressuring them to be solely under its feet, but as small fish you can say oh I was simply swimming and somehow the ocean took me there. I am a poor guy no GPS of my own. This road, port, dry port project may prove to be the most important project for the ages with far reaching consequences. It might even ensure that you will never have big security problem from both Kililka and Djibouti which means most of your borders can be guarded by locals and few militia locals, nothing to spend.
  24. Typical African dictator, which power, robbed money and praise from west has gone to his head.
  25. Major news in Ethiopia today: Oromo demnstrations to completely include Addis Ababa in Oromia region, Abiy in a pickle on this one. Amxara deposed their regional president in favor of someone more militant on Addis Ababa Federalists are close to concluding their informal and semi-formal discussions. Another pickle for Abiy since he is suspect on Federalism, but the rest of Ethiopia is federalists except half of Amxara region and Amxara diaspora Somalis approaching. Smelling the danger in Ethiopia. Tigray and Afar have already done so. Groups that were at each other throat until last month are now sitting in discussion, eating same plate.. Eritrea is anti-federalism and solidly with Amxara groups and Abiy. The Oromo, Somali, and all the rest do already smell the danger of the country falling apart. 3 million jobs need to be created every year just to keep unemployment at current level of 25 percent....good luck with that....
