Why did Farmaajo chose to provoke them at this particular time? Its not possible to have peace and order by choosing, this or that foreign influence. What is the point supporting one UAE side against another QATAR side, if at the end of the day the fight is not what is good for the country, but who makes best to ally with among foreigners.

Hello Dahireeto, long time no see here. Well the capital has special status and in some cases is equal to states. Its the same in Ethiopia. In some cases the city is considered a state.

I am afraid that is a big mistake. 30 years is more than a generation. Do you know how many nomads have changed the water wells they used and used to fight for? There are so many refugees around the world that some clans back home worry about Canada and you than they do about the neighboring clan or territory. The news that a Somali politician is becoming more prominent in washington or Ottawa or Amsterdam than Hargeisa or Baidahaba is new phenomenon, that comes with generations. Somaliland is now very very low in the calculus of Jubaland. As you are well aware from Kililka, every generation has swayed dramatically from one Somalia for all Somalis, to many Somalias to few Somalias. Since there will not be clear winner, but stalemate in the middle east, will be same for Somalis with few shifting sands. There is nobody that wants to deal with all Somalis in one basket. Very expensive and too much work. World powers will only focus on the part of Somalis they really need at any given time. If Turkey decides to make peace with Syria and close that file, then for sure there would be big changes. As long as Turkey is kept busy at home, the whole red sea will be play ground of Saudi, Egyptian, UAE...childrens games.

Kenya reimposes Wajir stopover for all flights leaving Mogadishu
Old_Observer replied to Suldaanka's topic in Politics
Either this is some mafia or very strong parliamentarian/businessman for Wajir. Is there any Somalilander connection? Kenyans could have asked and obtained to have customs office in Mugadishu which is commonly done among friendly countries. -
Erdogan: EU 'Doomed to Failure' Without Turkey's Full-Fledged Membership in Bloc © AP Photo / Francois Lenoir ANKARA (Sputnik) - EU efforts to ensure its values are doomed to "failure" without Turkey's full-fledged membership in the bloc, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday. "Turkey will continue its efforts to join the European Union, despite the actions of those who are trying to force it out of the European community. Without Turkey’s full-fledged membership, all EU efforts to ensure its declared values are doomed to failure. The European Union needs Turkey more than Turkey needs the bloc," Erdogan said at a meeting of the group on the implementation of reforms in Ankara. READ MORE: Emerging Market Economies at Risk Amid Faltering Eurozone Growth — Reports According to him, Turkey has fulfilled 66 out of 72 criteria put forward by the European Union as a condition for the introduction of a visa-free regime, and further steps will be taken in the near future to fulfill the remaining six criteria. © Sputnik / Vladimir Sergeev Italy Would Prefer to See Russia in EU Rather Than Turkey – Deputy PM The Turkish leader added that a revised agreement on the customs union between Turkey and the European Union is in the interests of both Ankara and the bloc. The bilateral talks stalled in 2016 following an attempted coup in Turkey, which was suppressed by the authorities, who introduced a state of emergency in the country and proceeded to purges of tens of thousands of people accused of being involved in the coup. The European Union condemned the Turkish authorities' tough measures toward the opposition, including mass detentions, which became another stumbling block in the accession talks. In 1963, Turkey signed an agreement with the European Economic Community, the European Union's predecessor. In 1987, Ankara filed an application to become an official member of the bloc, however, the negotiations between the two sides did not begin until 2005.

MMA, Forget oil, uranium, etc underground. Forget that it would take real hard work for Somalia to be bread basket for some Gulf countries....forget all other possibilities. Right now at this moment: 1. What is that Eritrea can offer to Ethiopia and rest of the world 2. What is that Djibouti can offer to Ethiopia and the rest of the world The answer to both is ports and sea coast. Nothing else that is on hand and ready. It so happens to be as well the same for Somalia. If this does not make these countries enemies, it makes them dog eat dog competitors. I don't know what kind of skills Farmaajo or you have to dance around this elephant of real life facts? You have no choice now to change the geography and good or bad that comes from it. Somalia has longest sea coast. I am sure there are a lot of Somalis who would have preferred, for the ancestors to have focused on shorter sea coast and deeper land holding to round the shape/geography.

Simply show off and like children wanted to show Djibouti. Bravo Somaliland. Meeting of the two should be either where there is big reward money for just holding the meeting like in Saudi Arabia or no money and real talk in Djibouti, most preferably in secret. The fact that both Ethiopia and Eritrea do not want Djibouti or Kenya here is bad very bad intention ed.

Money is not everything: UAE spies being picked off everywhere
Old_Observer replied to Old_Observer's topic in Politics
Money and pictures with Americans British..offiials have gone to their head. Only Yemen knows how to handle UAE. Send few missiles and tell them their economy will be wrecked. UAE will immediately allow UN to the Yemen port and get ceasefire. -
What happens if the regions don't like what the SFG was doing? I am sure they don't like that Somalia is siding with Eritrea as opposed to Djibouti. If there was some benefit to Somalia, that would be tolerated, but there is no tangible or visible benefit to Somalia for doing so. The Xabeshi just signed agreement with QATAR on security joint work. There was too much friendship going on with UAE and people did not like this. Except for money and America, its unnatural for Ethiopia to be close friend with Egypt.

Children's work this Abiy and Afwerki are doing. Even just a meeting itself. If the meeting is done under Abiy, neither Somalia or Somaliland gets a penny and all the money all the propaganda goes to Abiy. Afwerki will send his ministers to Somaliland and him travel to Mogadishu to tell UAE that all the work was done by Afwerki, but sent Abiy last minute for appearance, there fore Afwerki takes the credit and of course the money. Any serious or real talk between them should have been in Djibouti. Period. Anything outside of that is murky and corrupt. Ghelleh will be perfect middle man. He is not all supporting of Somaliland. He is against any war in the area and he might still be inclined for Somalia and Somalialnd to come together by some formulae. He can be good middleman. Abiy and Afwrki cannot.

galbeedi, As you are aware, this is the prevailing political culture all over the world now. An opposition who has no red line in the manner of speak and a government who is stunned that someone can say what they say. Its the American style. The democrats can say of their president "he is Putin's man" "he is a traitor"...So that creates camps that cannot cross talk, but just talk. The most audacious wins. These accusations for example are all punishable by death Penalty in America. Yet these have become now ordinary words. The only solution to that so far is if the government is capable change agenda or focus of the country then when the issues of the day get old, bring them back and address them.

Money is not everything: UAE spies being picked off everywhere
Old_Observer replied to Old_Observer's topic in Politics
America is really worried about Turkey. Turkey can reduce the risk of Iran going to war by circumventing sanctions Turkey can wipe out all western interference in Syria by simply allowing Russia and Assad to go ahead free hand Turkey can bring the curtain down with NATO by making weapons and selling weapons to all middle east and asia Turkey can make black sea just for Russia and Itself changing and shifting the military map UAE is a gear in this cog, but a gear with money lubricated and lot of Israel assistance. -

Turkey detains two suspected UAE spies Authorities are investigating possible link with the assassination of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi ByAsia Times staff Turkey has arrested two men suspected of spying for the United Arab Emirates and is exploring the possibility that they are linked to the assassination of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Anadolu state news agency said on Friday. The two were detained as part of an investigation by Istanbul prosecutors into alleged spying by the Gulf state, Anadolu reported. It was not clear when they were arrested. A critic of the Saudi regime, Khashoggi was murdered in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 by a team of 15 agents sent from Riyadh. The Saudi national’s body has never been recovered. After first denying the murder, Saudi Arabia later said rogue agents had carried out the operation. A trial of 11 suspects opened earlier this year in Saudi Arabia. Much of the case remains unclear, including the role of Saudi Arabia’s powerful crown prince and de facto ruler, Mohammed bin Salman. -
UAE Spy Network Reportedly Busted in Oman Emirati spies arrested by Omani authorities were allegedly directed by the UAE vice president and prime minister themselves, according to the newspaper that broke the story. An extensive UAE espionage cell in Oman was recently dismantled by authorities in Muscat, the Lebanese daily Al Akhbar newspaper reports, citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter. According to the media outlet, Omani authorities obtained information allowing them to expose the identities of all members of the spy ring, as well as the names of the companies cooperating with them, subsequently arresting the group’s members. © AP Photo / Mahir Alan/Dha-Depo Photos Man Suspected of Spying for UAE Commits Suicide in Turkish Prison - Reports The newspaper also claimed that it was Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, UAE's vice president and prime minister, who directed the spy network, creating considerable tension between Muscat and Abu Dhabi. In 2011, Oman announced that it had dismantled an Emirati spy ring “targeting the government and the military” of the country, with an unnamed security official explaining that the spy cell “gathered information on the sultanate’s military, security and economy, in return for large sums of money from Emirati security services”, according to Press TV.

What is SOLers views and stand on situation in Sudan?
Old_Observer replied to Old_Observer's topic in Politics
Here is a small example how developed politics is in Sudan. The people's congress party (Al Bashir) never banned the communist party. Yet now those who call themselves progressives are making a condition for them to accept the Transition council, if it bans the PCP which is called by the progressives as Islamist party. Now the PCP has demanded that the prime minister in the transitional government be a christian. They prefer a christian rather than the "progressives' who some are agents of Western and Arabs. Those who were calling for democracy are the most intolerant of democracy. All the PCP did was tried to implement Sheria, whereevr practicable and possible, but always protected others rights including having communists in parliament. -

What do you think of the civilized people of Sudan? As per Turkish/Qatar Famaajo is complete fail. While he was in Asmara a few hundred Somali came back from Turkish after completing their training. The whole idea was the regular army trains in Somalia and the special forces train in Turkey. This whole project, the single most important project for Somalia is now almost dead, since Farmaajo relied on Abiy and Afwerki who are UAE's lieutenants. I thought you would be mad with the failure of this program alone, leaving aside the constitution issue which again now is in another shelf. As for the situation in Ethiopia. Long way to go to take shape. An Oromo official criticized an Eritrean author and the whole Oromo people were up for his neck. Its that much fragile. Tell Farmaajo if you have any line of communication, to be careful. -

So far so good. Djibouti has played smart and also lucky that Somaliland, Kililka and Afar all refused to play what was intended by UAE as delivered by Eritrea and Ethiopia. It looks like all these regions have the capacity to say no, or unlike Farmaajo to tell Djibouti first. -
Thank you. It shows that they have the expertise But we are not important enough to deal directly so we are given to middle and small powers to manage us.

Turkey says Sudan did not cancel Suakin deal April 26, 2019 (KHARTOUM) - Turkish government has denied reports that the Transitional Military Council has cancelled an agreement with Ankara to restore Ottoman-era artefacts on Sudan’s Red Sea coast island of Suakin. The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) is continuing to restore Ottoman-era artefacts on Sudan’s eastern coast, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy, according to the Turkish news agency Anadolu on Friday. He stressed that press reports about the cancellation of the deal and the expulsion of Turkish worker from Suakin were not accurate. On 20-21 April, several Arab and Turkish newspapers reported that Sudan had decided to revoke a deal sealed with the Turkish government in December 2017. At the time, the deal had been criticized amid reports claimed that Turkey would establish a military naval base in the strategic Island. But Ankara said the deal, which was signed following a visit to the ruined port by President Tayyip Erdogan, provides to transform the area into a culture and tourism centre. Located on the west coast of the Red Sea, the island is only 261 nautical miles away from Jeddah, the second largest city in Saudi Arabia. Until the 19th century, Suakin was the residential address of the Ottoman Empire’s Habesh Eyalet, which encompasses today’s Eritrea, Djibouti and northern Somalia. (ST)
