You are giving too much undue weight to the current conditions and being too influenced by it in predicting future. This all can go away in a matter of 6 months. How long do you reckon took to sort out the major problems in Somali kilil and have a functioning government? I am sure you would have said worst about Somali kilil 10 years ago.

cadnaan1, Do you ever ask youself who died and made me the seller and you the buyer? I might have some on the ground information about some regions and peoples in Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan but I am not AI software that you can buy. Since you seem to see at evrything from what would Ethiopia do, what would Ehiopia want etc let me give you one short information to consider. When the Tigray were fighting the last thing in their plans, ideas would have been to go to Somali or Oromo or even Amhara country. If you loose a million of your people to famine most of it man made and fight for survival of your people, would you think or motivated to go to NFD and fight Kenya. Only a fool or cruel and irresponsible would do that.

Ducale, That is most reasonable and fair conclusion. The most important part of your conclusion is that its in the best interest of all or almost all Somali at this particular time. Going in the right direction, but not close to where the Somali can have a totally Somali only solutions to problems.

Among Ethiopian diaspora generals, kings, high priests and Garaads of certain DC and Baltimore and Chicago refugee empires, this news has created a meltdown. The diaspora philosophers are asking what does this all mean? Some you tube videos are digging TPLF and WSLF speeches and musings from almost 30 years ago.

Bay and Bakool has been a theatre of movement for terrorists, governments, warlords since beginning of the current situation. Are you telling me that Somaliland does not care, does not listen, does not watch or even does not interfere of what happens there?

An employee in the consulate not even the consul general. I am afraid it has become a political malady/sickness among some Somalis to consider "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" where the enemy and the friend are exchanged. Generally speaking the "enemy" was Habeshi. Yes the core and origin of Habeshi is the Tigray, but in past Somali politics the carrier of this was Amhara. Now in Ethiopia the Amhara is opposition with vitroil and hate on Tigray blaming the Tigray for bringing all nationalities some unheard of before into federal syetm and power. All the years there was one organization who did not go this root, ONLF. They opposed Ethiopia as country, government, regime, but knew better not to follow those who are angry at the Tigray, Somali etc for making the country regional autonomy. But in the Internet world what can one do, there is all kinds.

cadnaan1, Here we go, but I worry for the health of those who punchbag Tigray when Samora Mohamed Yonus retires. It has taken to involve all Ethnics fairly proportional in the Armed Forces 20 years. When the Derg was overthrown 85 percent of the rebel army were Tigray/Afar. Only 7 percent were from Amhara region and those were mostly Agew. Up to colonels now is a good reflection of the country and the balance is moving higher as experience is achieved. Unlike the old days one also needs a university degree in addition to military experience and in some cases war experience. Be practical. How could a Tigray or Afar be an intelligence operative in Amhara, Oromo, and other peoples? Don't you ask yourself some basic questions that ( at the most 8 million people and if you add Tigray and Afar people outside of their regions everything maybe 10 million) this Tigray this Tigray that does really not make sense. The working language is also Amharic, not Tigrinya or Afar Af.

This is the most clear sign that facebook and google have succeeded in deleting history of so many peoples. Somaliland soldiers are the most remembered in Eritrea when the British defeated the Italians. Britain had soldiers from India, Egypt and majority from South Africa. But if you ask persons aged 60 and over what they heard from their parents or themselves is the Somali since it was Somalilanders that interacted with the local population. During the fight against king Minelik all the peoples close to the sea were in opposition to king menelik and the europeans coming from the sea. These peoples from Sudan to Somalia were sandwitched, they can only escape north or south. Many Somalis went to Ethiopia and many Ethiopians went to lands of the Somali. Like it or not almost all warlords in Mogadishu had some interaction and some of them alliances with Ethiopia. Somaliland and Puntland both have interest that best of relations is mainteained with their borders to Ethiopia. No Tigray had been defence minister after 2000. No Tigray has been foreign inister after 2008. No prime minister now. Yet many Somalis rely for information from some Amhara websites. If you only knew that throughout long history it was only few decades the Amhara ever interacted outside of their kingdom in the centre of Ethiopia, away from the sea.

Jeeganland youth become mercenaries for Qatar due to lack of jobs
Old_Observer replied to Saalax's topic in Politics
And is becoming quite common in a hurry. It makes sense. If you have money why be fighting yourself. People may think that you are the one to protect your money more than mercenary, but that is not always true. But do you realize nobody hires mercenaries on the way up? Roman empire started mercenaries when became too big, too old and wealth getting less. US also now a lot mercenaries, Russia, France, Gulf.. Somalia is struggling to get up. Mercenaries would just destroy it. When its up and oil, gas, minerals money starts floowing for sure will have mercenaries. Just a joke: How about Somalia hiring Amhara mercenaries? -

Ducale, Yes. That fake persona and image lasted almost 100 years, but when the real ones showed up who are Jewish, Christian and Moslems according to time, That Amhara image and exaggerated talk is almost vanishing. Why is the christian island etc now not being propagated one friend asked: All the Original places of every monolithic faith are all within Tigray. The Jewish have in the area where the current Weyannie started. Moslems have Negash area where the 1st weyannie 1942 started and Christians have Axum in between these two places. Ethnically speaking the only people that can claim religious tolerance and co-existance through thick and thin tested are the Afar and Tigray. The rest has become fair weather tolerant or fair weather champion of this or that. People are tested when up and down. If at the immediate downturn you blame or hate any people, faith, tribe etc then one is intolerant and survival of society is somehow linked to tolerance especially when you are up. Ask the most chauvinist Amhara now how he feels about Moslems and he/she will speak a new language. Almost all Somalis now have been exposed to Ethiopians one way or another, so the collective view of the past if you see is only on the outside. For Ethiopians is even more exposure and there is nothing more shocking and convincing with no need of talk and lectures to convince people, than seeing a Somali governor, a Somali minister, a Somali judge, a Somali commander to change peoples attitude in a hurry and in a priceless way. -
There is something called Budgetary support where British government supports directly budget and plans of another government. They support to the tune of $600 million in Ethiopia and on top of that there is also few NGOs and programs outside of this the British International development Agency supports and on top of that British NGOs operating their plans.

suldaanka, A big thanks also goes to Somaliland. When you want and support for peace of your neighbor, and you may not get the same, but at least you will not get enmity. You may not like Illey, but what ever his ills or bad side, he never wishes ill on any Region, clan or Ethnic. He is also one of the few Somali politicians powerful ones who can speak to anyone.

maakhiri1, We will all know coming days. This has taken 10 years. Every stage and time part of ONLF comes out openly and declares that they will stop the fighting and do what they want to do peacefully. Some leaders may decide not to come to the kilil. Maybe too much for them, it is to be expected. For those who find it hard to come home, wish them best. Somalia and regions, even Djibouti and Kenya have agreed to host and give citizenship as long as the person has denounced and will not make politics by gun. No war for this old noble objective, but now not helpful and a destruction.

Jeeganland youth become mercenaries for Qatar due to lack of jobs

Brilliant. A soldier of a wealthy country that may never go to war is better job than a gardner or floor cleaner of some dumb and disrespecting rich couple. The Sudanese have done this like forever with gulf states. Some of them are now generals in these places. A house in Khartoum, best schools for their children even in America or Europe, work permit for relatives...the payback is great all around. -
Che, Weyannie has always been on side same with Somali. 100 years of fighting coming to an end. Bravo Illey. You have led the Somali in Ethiopia with higher respect and better status. Here is a region that can be lesson for the republic. All regions and countries of Somalis contributed to this. I wish the late Meles Zenawi had seen this. He worked tirelessly for it. Djibouti, Somaliland, Puntland and now SFG and communities South and NFD have all joined this and contributed. Suldaanka, Surrender is wrong word. The talking has always gone on even in middle of fighting. It is great doing it now, since both Federal and ONLF folks that know each other long time and some cases were close friends 20 years ago, are all retiring and are not leaving next generation this mess among same people. The next generation can deal with its own problems.

galbeedi, That is the right attitude and all the ingredients are there, its just that at this time not pulling or pushing in one direction. Its cross roads. Its very difficult and for now impossible to gather all these regions into one country. But its easy and very economical in terms of time and sacrifice to bring together as one people. In some countrues the Somali will be like Jewish, in others like Scottish in others like English, but if each uses th eopportunities available then evryone has a stake and an interest on the other. I can tell you from what I have seen how displaced Somalis are treated in Kenya and Ethiopia. Its night and day. Granted that Ethiopians at least some tribes and ethnics had more interaction with Somalis for centuries if not millenia, but most of the reason for the difference in treatment of displaced is 1. The difference of status of the Somali in both countries. You also need to be reasonable in the fact that the Somali share Djibouti with the Afar, so primarily they will accomodate the Afar in Djibouti before trying to help or hinder Mogadishu. That is just the reality of life. The Somali presence in all this countries is a gift or good side of a bad situation. It was created in bad times, but it may give good results if used correctly. -

Ducale, I don't know if he was a trainer, or that galbeedi and the likes think no Somai should interact with Ethiopia. It is like a taboo for Somali politician to interact with Ethiopian, when in reality no Somali can avoid bumping to Ethiopia and the Ethiopians bumping to Somalis. Regional interest should not be enemy of Unionist, except for the fact that some Unionist become so rigid, cannot see the natural progression of society. You, your family, your immediate relative, your village, your closest group of villages, your zone, your sultanate, your boqor, your collection of boqor united kingdom. That is natural. If you love your sultanate its easy and normal to love the next sultanate. Even if you fight over something you can find compromise and reconciliation since you understand your interest and also the other guy, group, tribe interest. But if you simply say, we are one and since only one chair is available, I will sit on it, you sit on the floor. That will never work. But if you say lets build enough chairs for everyone and more so we all can sit around the table, but I will sit at head of table. That is acceptable since everybody is at the table. The way you put it looks like, if I am not mistaken, globalists and nationalists conflict at a local scale. -

Put them together in the grinder (ideas) and then mixer. See what comes out. -
Training from Soros Foundation and affiliated organziations: Do not try to explain, just find one word most frightening, most shocking and most inpolite example: never use quarel, disagreement just say war Never try to explain how something appears like corruption simply say its corruption and call anyone target corrupt Never say the governemnt should have used water cannon, buttons, begging the demonsrators simply say is murderous, butcher, nazi, fascist Your openents will be so shocked, can't find reason why a human being would behave like you, will be frozen and there is your chance to grab power.

Who is next in that group, Australia or NewZealand? -
There is similar things that happen with Ethiopian diaspora. Every time there is demonstration or disturbance or chaos in a city in Ethiopia, a country of 100 million and 80 Ethnics, the diaspora has done following: 1. The most famous was a professor collected $500 each from diaspora, issued certificates of patriotism and stated will be in Addis Ababa in 6 months. A lot of people paid $500 for front row seat in new next government. 7 years later he is stuck with it making visits to Eritrea producing false videos with Eritrean conscripts, and lately those close to him exposing him since the money has run out. 2. For the 3rd time a government in exile has been declared last year. All professors, Mengistus ex ministers, rejects from liberation organizations of 90s. Each with party of briefcase and two friends. They even got audience in State department as they say it, but is with an 82 year old long retired one lol. They do not say ex in the anouncement is just Deputy secratry of state fro African Affairs. 3. Such persons can have an impact if they do not start right away with direct politics. If you start with a humanitarian or social movement or some kind of Soros orwelian names, you can go further. The only draw back is it takes time and money and some work.
