Denmark & French Delegation arrive in Hargeisa
Old_Observer replied to Suldaanka's topic in Politics
That is bad. Oil is still the most dangerous wealth of all. The French are worst kind among old powers. Their methods are weak but cruel. Libya and Syria are most glaring examples of French methods. Forget Vietnam, Algeria etc. 1991 Somalia is for the most part fight of the world oil companies. Here is the late Ethiopian PM policy on oil. "Where ever there is oil there is trouble. If you contract to American then British or French or Dutch will rise the next tribe. Until we are either completely or more than 80% capable of extracting it ourselves, let it stay in the ground we will buy and sell oil products like other countres" -

Ethiopia: Govt to Declare Three Month State of Emergency As of Today
Old_Observer replied to Holac's topic in Politics
It is one of the options. There is tremendeous pressure from the other kilils. The issue is Oromo are in the center and neighbor to every kilil except Tigray. When they stopped traffic going to other kilils and almost stating "either Oromos become president prime minister most of army most of ministers or no law and order until we get that ". That is a challenge to everyone else. The Amhara also tried to follow the same afraid that the Oromo will win. Of course the Amhara cannot do it the same, since a lot of Agew who would not only join but would be against. For the Somali, Afar, Beni Shangul or Hareri its simple. Respect the constitution or no constitution and we go our ways. If the Oromo disorder and destruction methods to get power continue, someone will declare "either you stop and live equally like everyone else per federal system or ask for separation and follow the process. That would be most dangerous. State of emergency would prevent that. -

This issue is dead as the one who created it king Minelik. The cover used by some Amhara groups is that this place was in another province before 1991 and Ethnic federation should be dismantled. Why they do not want ethnic federation, because the people in Welqayit are Tigray almost half half from tribes that are now in Eritrea and tribes from around Negash. Last year the Amhara and Tiray governemnt went to the area and made border, there was no clearly demarcated border. The border is in province/district called Tsegede. It was mapped during Derg what ethnic the people are and is labeled Tigray further west than Welqayit. Even from the Tigray the tribe that is most is same tribe in Eritrea. Just ask a simple question: Are the people Amhara? The answer to that will tell you everything. But when someone points out half of Afar kilil was Tigray and not a single Tigray will say it should remain in Tigray. You could be considered disrespectful of the Afar and that would be a crime. -

Dahireeto, We are all waiting. galbeedi, Are you renegotiating the deal in light of the fast moving sands? -
Bad news, but not too bad. The meeting itself guarantees that ONLF will not do anything to negatively affect the situation. The news itself was big plus. Made others think what can happen in a hurry. ONLF don't seem to leave some issues at the door step. Wrong approach thinking that Illey needs them more than they need him and trying to squeeze the kilil to do something that cannot be done now. They will keep talking and the changes in Ethiopia may help.

Prime Minister Hailermariam Desalegn Resigns
Old_Observer replied to Che -Guevara's topic in Politics
I cannot tell you how many topics get written like that every 2 to 3 years. The man is staying. Actually the ones that wanted to overthrow the government are more in panic than the ones in government. Every Oromo that wanted to march to the palace is now lost compass and already questioning what went wrong and want calm and order to take a breather. -

Tillamook, No panic yet. The dam will be completed even in the worst of the worst scenario. Its location is safe even if the Amhara had panicked by its proximity to Sudan. The Tigray knew something the Amhara didn't. But still is the target. And always need to respect enemy even when weak. Another fact hard to believe for Amhara as well is Eritrea will never cooperate with Egypt on this. There are a number of economic and strategic reasons. Even if nothing else sentimental value tha great grand father of president fought and defeated Egyptians when he was Ras/Sultan in Tigray Ethiopia. Worst that can happen short term is some delay Even if all Tigray is not on earth, Sudan would actually complete it believe it or not. -

Will be rewarding disorder if he becomes prime minister. Will be worst one for Somali, that is the reason Jawar and company are pushing for him. First he needs to restore law and order in his kilil. We will see if they love him then. He cannot tell the people when they are wrong. Every thing they did he tried to say we have to listen to the people. A leader has to be able to tell his people they are wrong when they are wrong. That is more leadership. -

Old_Observer replied to Wajaale's topic in Politics
If that was the idea, then there is an element of inferiority complex that the Oromo will manage better. It could not be further from truth. I was going to give galbeedi the bad news. The Oromo are suing for peace and order, thereby leaving their Somali ally galbeedi in timbaktu in the middle of no where. They lost the paper the agreement was signed. And if ONLF comes will be even worst news for galbeedi. The capital of the galbeedi Jawar alliance Dirdawa maybe a Somali town formally as Addis Ababa becomes Oromo. -

Thank you. You would think and expect that would have been the simplest truth, humaine, practical and beneficial. I expected here to see reason and if not reason at the very least compasion for nomads that have lost their goats and camels to the draught and can least afford to fight. Even for a person who thinks this is best opportunity to get greater Somalia, a facebook soldier, what they forget is there is 7 million Somali in Ethiopia. That would have been the first criterion to consider, what is good for these millions. But no problem, It is already taking shape that things will be under control. The Oromo themselves see the danger to them and are moving now. -

Even maakhiri1 has become sloganeering. Unfortunately Jawar your "ally" is not just stating but shouting for his Ethnic to return to order. You will be watching a movie content different than the title advertised. Disappointing. -
Former and current Jeegaan ministers caught stealing public funds.

Look at this typical African story from some years back: Eritrea HSBC has customers to Asmara. Closed and opaque countries, led with an iron fist by Isaias Afewerki figure of the war of independence became President, Eritrea has nevertheless funny millionaires. In 1981, Hassan Abdalla Bashir, then aged 24, opened an account with HSBC in Geneva as a "banker". The Eritrea was then at war. Six years later, it's a Ghebreselassi Kidane Habte, 37, who did the same. According to the documents which had access The World Africa , the latter, which is presented at HSBC as a "driver car ", residing in Asmara in 2007 has more than $ 106 million while Hassan Abdalla Bashir, the" banker " , are more than 209 million. No information is available about these two characters in a country Amnesty International calls a "huge central prison, where prisoners citizens of their own country are regularly rounded up by the army , forced to work for a state phagocytosed by the party " . If the Sudan has very few millionaires at HSBC, linked to large national and foreign companies, it is instead the desert in the file Chad , the Niger or the Mauritanian . No one physical outcome of these countries has credited over one million accounts with HSBC in 2007 http://www.lemonde.fr/evasion-fiscale/a ... 6i0bMfb.99 Top -

Here comes the response. Now the Oromo and Amhara can reply to it. But hopefully will be just fake news since there are 52 nationalities in that one kilil. Big problems with Oromo and Amhara that settled some from Menelik days. -

Oromo Govt: People should give time for Our government to work
Old_Observer replied to Old_Observer's topic in Politics
Not really. The Oromo government is with the mob. Trying to use the mob to scare everybody into giving them the ranch for themselves. But I think overnight they must have had a huddle. Jewar is literally shouting for law and order. -

State of emergency would be necessary only if the Oromo are not able to keep law and order. And only in Oromo. The rest should not want or accept state of Emergency. Illey is member of the national security council which would recommend and if passed would implement state of emergency. The minister of defence is the practical and legal chairing the national security council. I do not think will get there. Even Jawar is calling with laudspeaker now to maintain law and order. The Oromo would be the biggest loser from this point on, if they do not go back to maintain peace and order. Every other kilil except Oromo are looking to their kilil leadership at this time. 100 million people is 100 million people. -

YoniZ, Federalism bottom line is simple. Put your house in order then aspire for greater things. Numbers don't mean anything. The Somali and Oromo as nations are equal just like Maine and California are equal in USA. Else separate and have your country where you can be president to the street cleaner all by yourself. -
