Do you know that USA has Nuclear Science Centre in Ethiopia that was established a decade ago, in the north of Ethiopia. Of course the centre is for Medical use focused. The Ethiopian opposition was rediculing the government for signing the NPT at the time, but signing NPT was a condition USA can open the centre and allow Ethiopia to import nuclear materials.

These countries are providing a lot of help, but they are also making money. All these countries have also strong Somali lobby in case of Uganda and Somali influence in case of Ethiopia and Kenya. Some balance needs to be found and also some friction to be exploited. Example Uganda and Egypt on one side and Sudan, Kenya and Ethiopia on the other side are conducting cold war and some times hot war in South Sudan. Somalia FG should work on a platform to get Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya involved equaly and very close co-ordination with SFG.

DP world is on its Bedewin rude march against Djibouti. There is news coming out that UAE wants to be peace broker between Eritrea and Ethiopia. Both countries have sat twice so far in this process.

A UAE journalist is having a laughter at the ludicrous Somalia
Old_Observer replied to Suldaanka's topic in Politics
Suldaanka, I think this trend or can be called culture of making the other side or exposing in this case to look bad and relatively looking better is a road not good for anyone. At this time Mogadishu looks the worst, but I am sure majority of Somali do not wish ill to Somalilanders. Some regions are envious but positively to catch up, and not to bring you down to level they are. -

Tillamook, I asked you repeatdly and pointed out to you that, the basis of your argument is Greater Somalia and this prevents you to see clearly the reality on the ground today, reality on the ground. There is a branch of every Somali entity in Ethiopia. Occupied Ogaden is wrong name, at the very least you could have said ccupied Somali in Ethiopia. At least that people can argue and say Djibouti, Kenya and Ethiopia are occupying the Somali as pointless as that sounds. Whether you think the Ethio Somali or Djibouti Somali should start war to "be liberated" from Djibouti and Ethiopia and head to Mogadishu or create a new country is all not an option now. Why can't you have the courage to wish every Somali in what ever region, country to have peace and development. You can at least trust me on this one. ONLF is in agreement now with Illey, it is time for reconciliation and peace for the Somali. Reconciliation alone is a very big undertaking. -
Tillamook, If I were a betting man, SFG would sign the same deal for Mogadishu tomorrow with 19 percent or whatever SFG thinks enough for Ethiopia. I am afraid you are reasoning the old way. Why can't you think that Somalia by deal like this has Ethiopia under its influence. Its a two way street. Ghelleh has more influence than any other country in the neighborhood in Ethiopia. Of course it is not fair to compare since Ghelleh is Ethiopian himself and has both Somali and Afar shared people with Ethiopia. why also you do not think that Somalia can buy Ethiopia's share? I am sure the area that Ethiopia can participate is road construction. They have few local companies that can build roads on their own. The cost is known. Why also you don't think let them invest Somalia can kick them out? Hoping for fight between Ghelleh and Ethiopia is bad wish and ill will that will hurt you more than those you are wishing ill. Even the Italians will come as investors after putting in order some of their banking problems. Italians who were enemy with Ethiopia are now building dams for Ethiopia. Not sure if serious but Egypt wants also free trade zone in Ethiopia.

I might on a concept basis agree with you, but do you know that there is 6-7 million Somali in Ethiopia? How could you be a spectator with such population who has been at war non stop for more than 100 years, there is recurring draught, Nomadic lfe is becoming difficult by the season and people need to be settled to farming, there is so much young people that you need labour intensive investments like textiles... The Somali cannot be a spectator. Its not in his nature or culture. I do not think the Somali sat down infront of a board and graded every other Ethnic and chose. Lets forget the three. Do you think the Somali has choice, but to be close to the Afar? Some things are just the way they are, beyond politicians or forum participants like you and I. -
Somali Federal Gov nullifies Berbera Port Deal
Old_Observer replied to maakhiri1's topic in Politics
They are all weak. The sad part is Somalia this time is even weaker. I don't consider anyone of them stronger than the Somali. Just worry about having a government even weak like them but at least can move around all corners of the country. Can make working arrangement with regions/provinces and conduct its responsibility. I agree with you that who ever comes out on top, if there is a top, will follow policies most likely same as current. Ports are now becoming more important than ever. Somalia should have the most ports per km. BTW Gheulleh does not want neither Mogadishu or Kismayo to enter competition, because there are about 25 million Ethiopians where Kismayo would be most convenient. Even parts of kenya and Somalia might have 5-6 million potential users.- 54 replies

Somali Federal Gov nullifies Berbera Port Deal
Old_Observer replied to maakhiri1's topic in Politics
Tillamook, It is not good to analyze political issues from anger. I understand the disappointment with the conditions in Somalia at a time when there is scramble, but blaming others should be second or third place not main reason. As for Gheuelleh, I do not think he reasons the way you are thniking. You seem to have no idea that half of Djibouti is Afar, and you totally not even considering it as a factor. Tigray is the last reason on the planet that Somalia is the way it is. If you really think about it, consider both sides. Don't just look one direction and base your thoughts that Tigray is bad and Oromo will be good for Somalia.- 54 replies

Its the electronic age. Why not do some research. You are not supportive of the Somali being in Ethiopia. All your arguments start from there. Almost all Somali in Ethiopia are convinced and chosen to be in Ethiopia. You don't accept this fact. Can't help there either. Why do you need to put down fellow Somali, only because they did not choose Greater Somalia? Does it make you feel better. I am serious. What is the point arguing something that for now is not a priority. Even ONLF the ones that fought to separate the region from Ethiopia, let alone you and I from sofa, have come to the realization that it is not priority at this time. Why not make this terrorism and Mogadishu a priority rather than focusing on some dead end issues. -
Somali Federal Gov nullifies Berbera Port Deal
Old_Observer replied to maakhiri1's topic in Politics
Tallamook, As per your vies that Ethiopia is natural enemy of Somalia can't help there. Ethiopia cannot use another port if has no ownership. That is 20 year old agreement with Djibouti. DP knows this from Djibouti. That is why DP offered shares to entice Ethiopia. If Tomorrow Kismayo is ready for such development and Ethiopia is wanted to use the port, will have to have share or pay money freely to Djibouti. Never forget that government of Ethiopia is the one that recognized first, the independence of Eritrea. Ethiopia has no interest or wish to interfere with Somaliland's case. Otherwise I can guarantee you if Ethiopia had this wish it can always find some country in west africa to recognize Somaliland and then its domino. If it was not for Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti Somalia alone would not have been able to keep the integrity. This is a fact of life and those in the know have no doubt about it.- 54 replies

"So, OO, which is it? Are the Arabs the purported “ Bedawin” you claim or should they be welcomed and partnered with like in the Berbera deal? That is a direct question! Don’t try to go into things that were not asked." Politically UAE no matter how wealthy does not have same influence in poor Ethiopia as it would have with other countries. If UAE came with ton of money and the venture is not against anyone, why not you can deal with Bedewin. This is not against Djibouti, nt against Puntland, not against Somaliland. Mogadishu is not happy because Mogadishu did not make the deal with another port, otherwise would jump up and down celebrating for same deal if it was in Mogadishu. That is small potatoe not against any Somali. Here I gave you the reasoning and the conclusion.

Somali Federal Gov nullifies Berbera Port Deal
Old_Observer replied to maakhiri1's topic in Politics
Can't see Ethiopia I guess? If Ethiopia does not use it, there is no need to develop such port facility for Somaliland's use only. Ethiopia cannot use any other port, but Djibouti unless Ethiopia has ownership of another port. It is that simple. The same rule applies if Somalia and Ethiopia want to develop use of Kismayo or Mogadishu.- 54 replies

Tillamook, What makes you think that Ethiopia entered into this agreement without first discussing with Mogadishu and Djibouti? The idea is almost a year old, it is not something that came out of the blue, even for you and I let alone to Mogadishu or Djibouti. Can't give you proof, but I am convinced Ethiopia would not do anything that is against any part of Somali people, unless there is split interests and views among Somalis. I have heard from a deputy minister some 3 years ago when answering to a question, he stated Any thing we do or say in relations of Somalia and Ethiopia is based on kilil 5 and in the republic is preferential to Puntland. As far as UAE, Egypt, Sudan and Eritrea it is not one to one relations. Eritrea will never do anything to help Egypt against Ethiopia. It is in Isayas person himself. He had made it clear more than once, there is even video recording of it in youtube. He stated that after fighting with Ethiopia. Sudan is independent and is trying to repair its relations in Yemen. Ethiopia is a country that has direct relations with America, Israel, China, UK Russia..etc No need for middle or small powers as middle man. Turkey is highly regarded, but Ethiopia is not happy with what is happening and what happened last 7 years in Syria. Ethiopia had good relations with Syria by the Christian churches and also historically. BTW its another Somali that re-established the diplomatic exchange. He studied in Syria. His name is Mohamed Dirir. Ethiopian ambassador to Egypt.

Che, Tillamook, Tigray is the origin and base of Ethiopia and mainly Abyssinia (northern half of Ethiopia and Eritrea plus aparts of east Sudan). The article 39 BTW is exact copy to that of Canada that is called Clarity act with Provinces. Unless you are interested only to use it accusation or blame one side or another. Actually the Canadian was passed 2001 and the Ethiopian 1995. It also helps to do some research. Why not give credit to whom it belongs. You should also be proud that it was the Somali that insisted there be a peaceful way to leave Ethiopia, if the federation does not work for the Somali people in Ethiopia. BTW even federal was first officially written into the WSLF conference before Tigray or Amhara who were together then. Why do we jump to undemine the Somali? I have no idea. TPLF credit is they were the first ones to declare their support. There will not be Oromo, Tigray or Amhara government. Either there is federal government or the country falls apart. The Afar will not accept this domination by one or another. The Oromo have been told clearly that their march to Arat Killo by mob rule will not be accepted. That is the delay in replacing Prime minister. It will be a test for the Oromo if they are using the mob rule to blackmail the country as Jawar and company have stated or the Oromo will work for law and order. -

Old_Observer replied to Che -Guevara's topic in Politics
Che, Don't kid yourself. The country is at stake means the country is at stake. GERD will not be stopped. If the Oromo are so unhappy the constitution is there use article 39. They cannot be allowed to hold hostage the whole country. Don't forget the constitution allows the PM to expel regional government if incapable or unwilling to implement federal orders in its region. The Oromo police are cooperating. Amhara will keep law and order themselves and are not opposed to federal police. Federal police has least Tigray and the mistake some cities did was making the federals feel alien since they come from smaller Ethnics. -

This whole thing is so humiliating for all Somalis. I am sure Somalilanders are not that happy the way it got concluded, But the fault clearly lies in Mogadishu. If the PM was intending to get few million dollars from UAE using the occasion, it won't work.- 54 replies

They did themselves a great harm. They are isolated and naked now. Every body suspected them of instigating the destruction and hate crimes, but now they just proved it. If I were them I would have abstained not vote against, since they are just doing this for the record abstaining has same impact, but voting NO after mob killing of people is a no no. They knew it was going to pass overwhelmingly even by Oromos. Its less than half of Oromo MPs. More than half of Oromo MPs supported the SOE. What did they expect the Somali MPs to vote? The Oromos should have argued for shortening the time to 3 months or something like that. All Amhara MPs voted for SOE. The Oromos could not find anyone single vote from all other regions to vote with the 88. That is sad for a group that wants to take PM posiion and majority in everything. -
How did I miss this one. Must be the Tigray AI About Arabs I have same view. Make them feel big and the money will rain. Change government and tell them out, but always ready to reconcile and grab more money. Most undeserving folks. But our fathers were more sily than them. Once defeated in the resistance the Somali should have taken full advantage from the colonials in industry, oil extraction, farming etc. But its a culture and tradition of not giving your dignity away even poor. In the long run hopefully it pays, but so far nothing to show for it, but poverty wars and remaining far behind the world in development. The age of tribes is coming all around the world and the horn of Africa will be best suited for it.

come e che la riproduzione e riservata quando questo articolo e copia di un altra novizia agenzia? On a serieous note. SFG should just file a document with UN, Arab Leaugue, AU send copy to UAE, Ethiopia and Somaliland stating that so long as Somaliland is part of Somalia all international agreements not ratified by Paeliament are invalid. But then again all agreements done with Turkey, UAE, America...from Mogadishu are also invalid since not even raised in Parliament. People living in glass houses should not be first to throw stones. I bet you Somalia has agreed with UAE and arranged same propaganda and public consumption as Egypt does. Example Egypt cannot send a brigade into Sinai without Israel's permission. Cannot fly fighter jet in Sinai. This is never told to people. SFG should just file legal papaers for future generation or governments if one can stand on its two feet to negotiate in future.- 54 replies

So far no end of Israel, which means no begining for Egypt. If I were Palestinian would have had country already in Sinai and fight Israel later. Israel took Gaza from Egypt not Palestine. The Palestinians simply corrupt and prisoners of Egypt. They should have fought egypt first and have friendly government in Egypt.
