The other time the UAE took Somali authorities "to the cleaners"
Old_Observer replied to Holac's topic in Politics
Bedewin have no culture. They could have asked the local contractor to break his expenditure. Pay the labour and consumed materials cost. European companies do that way in case the local contractor has problems or deceitful or political involvement etc. Other assets can be withheld until case is settled. I have doubt that this is not tied to government changes in Mogadishu. -
Most concerning. Especially when SFG is overwhelmed with so many issues, can break hope of the people by some insrtability. More than Al Shabab I think its warlords and chiefs or MPs that can do most damage.

BREAKING: Somalia asks Arab League intervention
Old_Observer replied to Che -Guevara's topic in Politics
I am certain Ethiopia has discussed with Somalia and Djibouti long before this happening. This case was public information for a year that shares were being negotiated. How many shares from DP and how many shares from Somaliland was the discussion. Shouldn't you wait for the Ambassador's side before you bring the axe on him? Why did the Prime minister take the trip at that time? I am sure the Arab League will issue some statement. The Arab League is Egyptian shindig, that is why has never ever accomplished anything. This time will issue something, since there is the name Ethiopia in the file. The only reason to do anything. -
ETHIOPIAN RULING PARTY TO MEET NEXT WEEK TO CHOOSE NEW PM
Old_Observer replied to Che -Guevara's topic in Politics
Who ever America can accept. Ethiopia has now completely changed. Some regions will focus on development that is always dual purpose which means "useful if continued in Ethiopia and very useful if we go our own way" There can not be a political party that can operate and would have members from all corners in Ethiopia with discipline and trust. In a way the Oromo (at least the wing that wants to have it as a country) has succeeded. Oromo language as federal will not be implemented. The party in Oromo that raised this knew very well, but raised it anyway to ensure support among Oromos. America wants the Amhara, but the Amhara in washington and the Amhara on the ground have big big difference. The Amhara that is around washington has no base that can fight or push on the ground. -
Prime Minister Hailermariam Desalegn Resigns

Balkanization of such countries can never be all orderly. The history is longer than the present. The countries are bigger than those that can orderly control. The best thing is not have ill will to all people and mostly people who have nothing to do with it. Ethiopia and the Somalis are more intertwined today than ever has been in past. Ethiopia cannot be Balkanized without affecting the Somalis in some regions or countries. As for kilil I am convinced this is best situation has ever been. Conscious unity. As the westerners say "hold your nose and vote for A" . The Somalis may have a truckload of complaints and greviences on the government, but have consciously chosen to hold their nose. -
More Somali politicians call for the government to cut ties with UAE

I am afraid the SFG will try to join in the pressure on Djibouti, by unintended way and could proove to be fatal to itself. Both could be seperate and decisions by desperates is troublesome. -
Prime Minister Hailermariam Desalegn Resigns
Old_Observer replied to Che -Guevara's topic in Politics
Tillamook, That is the right attitude, is called righteous. Since it is an attitude that circumstances do not change it. Don't misunderstand when I comment on different issues in one posting. You think that I am dispondent. Far from it. The split half happens in a diferent way than most people are figuring. Some say Tigray spliting from rest etc no there is no grounds or group for that, but look at the map of kilils. There is no slight ground or group for the two big number Ethnics of having same intesterest either you can see what is happening when things get really hot and not so sure of the possibilities. No human being will act without looking at possibilities unless pushed and left with no options. Even two nomads/farmers over grassland or water well. In any case since we are looking at 1900s all over again with slightly different players, and minelik's way do not work even for minelik himself let alone for others. The Somali will be OK in what ever way things develop. The Somali may not be driver, but has enough strength and options to drive. I think everybody recognizes that. which is what one can expect and count on in such times. Since the creation of the region by British, Ethiopias minelik and Italians, this is one time where every Somali of the region is united consciously. Its quite amazing and to see people at their best. Unity in house is prevention of any outsider temptations. The Somali may not have material wealth, but has moral wealth that is most necessary to survive and thrive in future. In a bad situation out of your control, I wish other Somali regions would have conscious effort to compromise and unite. The kilil is OK. Being righteous also gives you peace with yourself. No regrets. -
Somaliland+UAE: Two founding fathers sharing a chat

Che, Its all co-ordinated. I bet you Ghuelleh and Hailemariam are getting the message. Even the poor Ethiopian farmer knows something is afoot when the American Ambassador in Addis openly and undiplomatically speaks same way spoken in Ukraine. I do not think the Americans are taking into consideration that Ethiopia can split in half and loose both halves. -

It looks like you folks are buttering these Bedewin. Its their interest, let them do the leg work to kiss yours, not the otherway round. They have all the media working for them. You have already achieved "stable Somaliland" in American congress. Do you think Farax lobbyist achieved this? -
Emails show UAE-linked effort against Tillerson
Old_Observer replied to Che -Guevara's topic in Politics
Spot on. And to make matters worst, this is gathering steam so fast in America. White house already in shambles with resignation and conflict among staff. -
I am sure majority of Ethiopians and a lot in Kenya know him. He succeeded to make a name in the monopoly of Ethiopia/Kenya. That alone gets him a lot of recognition.

galbeedi, You either have a good network or you were in Oromo country missing and conducting investigation. You have more information about Abiy than even Jawar. Either its disinformation and misdirection, else, how could Tigray sites and galbeedi have the same campaign. care to explain? There are 3 persons that are designated as Tigray when the going gets tough: Abadulla Gemeda (who they say original name is (Minase Habtegiorgis) Founder OPDO, defence minister, president of Oromo, now speaker. Werqineh Gebeyehu (whose grandfathers name should be Weldekidan) Chief of federal police now foreign minister Leencho Leta (whose name as admitted was (Yohannes qeleta) founder OLF, one of architects of federal and kilils then fall out with Meles, now ODF and wants to go back home.

What if Djibouti, DP World reconcile and support Berbera deal
Old_Observer replied to Old_Observer's topic in Politics
Blaming Ghelleh for failure of first TFG is wrong. The president Abdulqasim took a lot of missteps. Instead of going to Mogadishu and straightening the city, he wanted to remove the late A. Yusuf from Puntland. He also tried to redress some conflict from past on Bay and Bakool. That was his downfall. Then no warlord in Mugadishu had reason to accept his presidency. The warlords in Mugadishu, Puntland and Bay run out the clock and his TFG was done. He also went to Cairo within days instead of Kenya or other Arab countries, knowing fully Mubarek and Meles had a public threat and counter threat just days before. Cairo papaers wrote radio and TV broadcasts most of it fake just to tell Ethiopia that Cairo has its man in Mogadishu. Ghuelleh did not like Abdulqasim but as choice of Somalia he had accepted and would have supported him. I am not sure what the motivation was for Abdulqasim to conflict with Puntland, maybi Ali Jama or somebody else.- 21 replies

More Somali politicians call for the government to cut ties with UAE
Old_Observer replied to Deeq A.'s topic in Politics
"Dropping what you have under your arm pit to stretch to reach whats on top of the cupboard" No need for Mogadishu to fight with UAE unless wants to invite trouble in Mogdishu itself. Protest, file the necessary paper work everywhere and that should be it at this point. What if UAE got enough support by another issue and made parliament throw out the government or the prime minister? Then it will be so many steps back again to form government and no work to be done in the mean time. -
I used to work for a company headquartered in Brescia and had branch in Nigeria. There were about 3 Nigerians then that came for training. This is more than 30 years ago. If it continued that the Nigerians grew in the place from there I don't know. Lago Di Garda "lake of Garda" one of the 8 or 9 wonders of the world is about 25km from this town. Paper that is used for printing money was manufactured in that province. My visit to Nigeria was the reason I immigrated to the west. Bad experience.

Djibouti signs port deal with Singapore-based Pacific International Lines
Old_Observer replied to Deeq A.'s topic in Politics
Here we go. Guelleh beats Isayas of Eritrea again. "In 20 years Eritrea will be the Singapore of Africa" President Isayas Afwerqi of Eritrea in 1998 Twenty years later Eritrea is the Sing a Poor even by African standards. -
http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/2/9/292272/World/International/Italys-first-black-senator-elected-for-farright-pa.aspx wow It solidifies the image Nigerians have of hussling. I was always wondering how the Somali have not captured this country. Eritreans are weak. Libyans have some mayors, but not much else. Albanians are not among the trusty ones. This is something out of George Orwell.

That is a ticket now in America. For AIPAC "If you want to eat a crow, just call it a bird" as the saying goes. How about the inhumanity UAE is doing in Yemen, a Yemen that was protective of Jewish when everywhere was a no go for the Jewish. The times we live in, just money rules.

I am laughing at this piece of information that was hidden. Her face looks generally more Tigrean. The funny thing is just a century ago in Ethiopia it was a must to have something Tigrean in life, or manufacture something Tigrean in you, your great great great grandmother to strive for power. Ancestry was crucial for legitmacy to "Solomonic line". Only someone from Tigray who may not even have Tigrean bloodline was authomatically "accepted". A lot of warlords and chiefs from all over married into Tigray. Since faith was more important those days than now, and since Tigray has Axum, Negash and Jewish center too it all worked out as well. Now is being used the same, but "among the heathen/commuist politicians".

What if Djibouti, DP World reconcile and support Berbera deal
Old_Observer replied to Old_Observer's topic in Politics
It has been like that since 2000s. Many even blamed the man for spending his own money for months hosting warlords, clan eleders, shieks and all sorts, helping them with Transitional government which died as some reached Mogadishu before the elected president. "one who does not have or cannot afford a donkey will denigrate the mule" In this case the attitude of most Ethiopians is "he is our country man, but he is Weyannie" and Eritreans say "he is an Ethiopian, we will never have peace with him". Both are false image of themselves, but more close to truth about the man.- 21 replies

What if Djibouti, DP World reconcile and support Berbera deal
Old_Observer replied to Old_Observer's topic in Politics
galbeedi, Confederation with Somalia would be ideal, but Gheulleh needs something ready made tool right now in a hurry. UAE is also not stranger to Mogadishu. He has to involve Ethiopia. As poor or as backward it may be, but more weight and also he has better in/out with Ethiopia than Somalia.- 21 replies

I think as Jawar said the other day, the Oromo need a rest. Too many things and an alliance they thought have been achieved with Amhara just broke down and acriminations have started. Internally acriminations have started That is sign of failing what ever plans they had at this time. I think was galbeedi who classified them as: Amharized Oromos, Animist traditional Oromos, Moslems, ..

Iran and what ever happens with Iran is the only thing UAE high risk. The rest is all manageable. If anything goes wrong on that one UAE is gone and all the Bedewin will have to buy an island or operate from London.
