Somalia: Saudi Arabia offers to mediate Somalia and UAE
Old_Observer replied to maakhiri1's topic in Politics
I think religion is the last thing in Saudi operations or conduct, but that is another discussion. Turkey and Saudi Arabia are also not OK, will not be OK. Cannot be OK. Actually one of the Turkish visits to Saudi Arabia was outright warning, kind of telling them if they repeat will be last one. The case is not Qatar or Somalia. Its Kurdistan in Iraq. I guess the Saudis were OK to support Netanyahoo to dismantle Iraq and for them to have the Sunni part to cut off Shiia Iraq and Syria and the Turks found out.- 20 replies

lol galbeedi now you are not being fair. You want the Saudi and painting them even religious kaba to boot, but you can't stand the fact that every empire or middle power is OK in Ethiopia. I can safely assume that you are aware for the most part its historical. Example Ethiopia was the only country as a habeshi that was gifted a monastery in Jerusalem. The Ottomans guarded it all more than 4 centuries did not bother the monks actually asssisted them. Do you know why. Habeshi did not go for crusades. Habeshi was capable to go, but did not go and the monastery is called Dier Sultan. Gift from Salhadin. A lot of fighting against Turks and Ottomans in Ethiopia, but no hate ever thought. The Turks also the same, they do not hate Habeshi for fighting them. The Russians start is religion, and at time like Somalia was also ideology. Americans displaced the British, but still Britain is very influencial in Ethiopia. Japanese is also history and business lately. Chinese is business. French is business. Ethiopia also does not fight wars to bring all people under one country. There is a lot in Eastern Sudan, ut the people are happy being Sudanese nationals, are respected and treated fairly.

I hear the Ethiopian minister has taken it personally and mad at SFG PM and by extension President Farmaajo. The issue is that the DP Somaliland agreement is almost 2 years old. DP has been running Berbera for some time. The Ethiopian minister made 2 trips to inform Mogadishu that he has been offered shares and one time it was along with Somalia Ambassador to Ethiopia. Somalia PM was explained to and told the details. Parliament of Somalia did not bar Ethiopia from doing business in Somalia which should have done since the main reason SFG is now active about the agreement is ETHIOPIA. The issue for the minister is that not the shares or the business, but hate campaign on Ethiopia and he happens to be Somali. Somalia ambassador to Ethiopia will be summoned and requested to explain why the hate campaign now as if SFG never knew about this long ago. Other than the hate campaign Somalia's opposition to the agreement is in her own right and for Ethiopia has and had no other designs than business. Djibouti right now before and after will always be more critically important to Ethiopia even as Ethiopia has close and friendly relations with Every region and Somaliland. Somaliland has been closely working with Ethiopia and most importantly kilil across many fields of activity. Why was Ethiopia not barred from doing business in Somalia? Just a question.

Ethiopia has more Arab than South Sudan, but the Egyptians are trying to get them in trouble and then Egypt can come as peace keeper which is now denied by Ethiopia and Sudan. Previously Egypt tried to pressure South Sudan to help with Oromo Rebels. South Sudan denied it, but lost a minister in the process. There was a minister the Egyptians had corrupted. Ethiopia told Kiir that person need to rid off and was done. Ethiopia is poor and backward country but has been able to kick out Egypt from the neighborhood. Major credit goes to Somalis. Even in Kenya the Somalis prevent Egypt from using some holes. The kenyans are I think easy to corrupt, much easier than the Somali or Habeshi.

Amin Amir is at it again. This time very artistic, creative, meaningful and funny.

The Tigre in me says never stray far from America, Britain and Russia. But I don't think you now the real reason behind it and at the core of it. Every body else will come after them. For 250 years Russia has supported Ethiopia, even when USSR was in Somalia and USA was in Ethiopia, USSR built the first technological institute and best of all a refinery during king Haileslassie. There were 130 Russians during the battle of Adwa when Ethiopia defeated Italy. America does not need to go for broke in Ethiopia, but might go for broke in other countries. No reason to do so and also no ability to do so. but most importantly no motive to do so.
-
The downside to it is Western countries go for broke. If they don't control it, they blow it up. Add to it the petro dollar drunk Arabs and you have unnecessary wars and destructive competition. I hope Russia would enter the fray and balance at least some of it. Requires a very strng leader and country to make the sea a gift rather than source of destruction.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukry has met South Sudanese President Salva Kiir to discuss Juba's request to join the Cairo-based Arab League, according to a foreign ministry statement. The meeting comes in the wake of a brief Africa tour by Shukry, during which he met Kiir in the South Sudanese capital on Monday. . Regional issues According to the ministry statement, the two men also discussed means of enhancing South Sudan-Egypt relations and "regional issues of common concern", including ongoing negotiations over Ethiopia's Grand Renaissance Dam project. Monday's meeting also reportedly saw an agreement signed establishing a "mechanism for political consultation" between Cairo and Juba, while Shukry also conveyed a message to Kiir - the contents of which were not disclosed - from the Egyptian president. Since 2013, South Sudan, which seceded from Sudan following a 2011 popular referendum, has remained the scene of a bloody civil war pitting government forces against armed opposition groups. A split between South Sudan's President Salva Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar escalated into a military conflict in December 2013. Despite a 2015 peace deal signed between the two sides, the conflict - in which some 10,000 people are estimated to have been killed - remains ongoing. ________________________________________________________ Getting on something dangerous are we?

The opening of the Chinese base was embarassing for all western countries and as you pointed out to America the most. Don't underestimate for the capacity of America to do damage, which in this case could be a lot. ISIS, Al Qaeda are not too far away. Too many chiefs around this area as well.

Somalia: Saudi Arabia offers to mediate Somalia and UAE
Old_Observer replied to maakhiri1's topic in Politics
This is very dangerous for Ethiopia and has nothing to do with the DP issue. The Saudis even though have now agreed to have a base in Djibouti, but never to be used for Yemen operations, This same Saudis are very mad humiliated and embarassed in Djibouti. It may even have to do with keeping Shiek Al Amoudi this long in prison. Very bad. I hope Somalia says no. Any Saudi hand here will be bad for Djibouti and Ethiopia.- 20 replies

There is some changes to it already. The north sea of Russia is being prepared for shipping to Europe. Shorter, cheaper, safest for security and free of US or EU competition. Only nuclear powered ice breakers needed for few months of year. This is piece of cake for Russia and China. South Korea wants to join this. A lot of poor countries peoples will get killed for Road and belt and the Chinese are risking only money.

I am amazed at the skill and indignities and sometimes having no shame, but still outlived every warlord, MPs, prime ministers, presidents almost the whole country. And sometimes he even played critical roles in breaking things. Bending the will of the people and sharing in clashes between tribes in Mogadishu and benefitting from it.

Oodweyne, I think you are missing who brought this change. You might have made your points based on America. I thught you had got it on the other thread about Iran. That is the main reason, on point sharp. Therefore it goes without saying that its Mr. Netanyahoo who shafled the cards in America. If you folks are prepared to give base hidden one like Eritrea, the western world is yours, but that would be too far away to return to normal. Don't expect America to go too far against China. Israel has a lot of interest in China. Ethiopia will be only country that will not see any change, since everything is there already. Might even help Djibouti through some reconciliation with UAE. Then it would really be a bad day for you, which I don't think will happen soon. Timing is of the essence. Will take the new folks even the lady to get down to real business and then soon elections coming in America. Richard Nixon was so busy at home America lost two kings in Ethiopia and Iran almost same time.

What will change for the horn of Africa? Winners will gain, losers will see immediate changes for worst and no change is also not good. Saudi Arabia and UAE - biggest winners Sudan - Big winner Ethiopia - not much change Kenya - Winner Somalia, Djibouti - Bad news but not losers yet since USA will repair relations with Turkey and Russia Eritrea - Winner Yemen - Loser

This commision is so effective, at one time the border commision of Sudan and Ethiopia came to observe and learn experience in 3-4 sessions. The following issues were most threatening to border between the two countries and the results are astounding: Human trafficking is almost zero Cross border looting and banditry almost zero Terrorism almost zero Gun running and Contraband trade greatly reduced Next major issues and objectives are: Economic union of both countries Reducing inefficiencies Unified system of critical infrastructure and resources (water, electricity, roads, railroads etc)

galbeedi, Being Tigray AI is not easy. Can't help finding news here and there. You are so confident to the level of bragging about something yet the slightest negative news sends you to treat the Somali people like an egg shell. I would give you a friendly suggestion: The Somali people whether regions or countries will be there, hopefully in a much better shape, long after you and I have tired. Come to think of it, your favourite Oromos will be there as well even if they do not make it to the Palace as you thought would be a cake walk for them, trumpling over Somali bodies. Whether you are anti-federal system or some other system, politics is always local and add to it economy is even more local down to an individual.

Lets not count the chickens before they are hatched. There is some news that Sherif Hassan Shiek Aden is on the move to oust the speaker. I am not sure if it has to do with this motion on DP World. This man is always trouble maker for every government from first TFG till this SFG. Never goes away, never rests, never hides..amazing.

galbeedi, One look at Detroit, Baltimore, Chicago..tells you that its beyond repair. Everyone of these cities requires a trillion dollars to just bring it to what it was. The kids growing up there and many more cities are biggest burden no even ggod enough to be soldiers of the empire to kick around third world countries. The only question is how long?

Puntland is under tremendeous pressure from every side of Somali regions and country. Unless Mr. Farmaajo has done a lot of work behind the scene, his government will not do well with Puntland. He better share a lot of money the SFG gets with Puntland. Congratulation to you also. That is what most people wanted SFG to do and then move on.

Its just entertainment music nothing political. The Habeshi dance to Somali music as it is almost every part of Ethiopia now. The north Ethiopia also dance to Sudanese music as do the Sudanese with Habeshi music. What would be so strange for a Somalilander to do the same, forced by commerce. Ports and military are very close culturally. Can adapt to every customer or client very rapidly.

It is happening same in Ethiopia as well. Some people are using Mengistu "nationalist" Ethiopian etc kind of excuses and flags to oppose the current government. The opposition in Ethiopia: says Mengistu was nationalist who fought against Somalia, forgetting that he fought against his own people. Mengistu was simply perfect fascist, cowardly and cruel, yet for some he is nationalist.

If there is intermingling it would be almost automatic that: Puntland and Somaliland would easily intermingle with north and eastern Ethiopians and Mogadishu would easily intermingle with Oromo. As far as soldiers are concerned its normal anywhere and everywhere in the world. Soldiers are not 80 year old seniors or teen agers (hopefully not). It would not be true to say there were no Italian half casts in Mogadishu. Suldaanka, Unless you are counting part of the Somali population out of your kind, as there is such a thing in every country, the percentage you put has bad meaning. You are excluding a certain Somalis. We will see when the port free trade zone etc gets built and functioning (Which I do not think will go according to the marketing and UAE and Djibouti will make up for their Arab childish nik naking) Somalilanders and Habeshi will be borderless in everything. I am told that students from Somaliland and Puntland in Ethiopian colleges don't feel or act as foreigners. In Somaliland there will be Habeshi fashion and in Ethiopia there will be Somaliland fashion. Within a year the hairdo of women will be intermingled and mixed. Oodweyne will be dancing to Tigray music as theSudanese do now and the Tigray will be dancing to Somali music as they do right now.

Flashback: Reagan, Berbera, Siyaad Barre and Mengistu
Old_Observer replied to Holac's topic in Politics
Repeating to a tee except Somalia and Ethiopia have both changed dramatically. And it is not the mengistu Zaid Barre times repeating, but the 1900s. Djibuti is same as 1900s, Eritrea same as 1900s, Ethiopia same as 1900s and Somalia for the ost part is also as the 1900s. Mengistu and Ziad Barre times did not make any history and will not repeat. -
I am not sure about Somaliland, but in Puntland the Oromo went there on their way to Yemen and some to work as well. Nothing sinister about it. Even Eritreans make it to Puntland amazingly. Was gateway to Yemen. If they are suspects of course will be arrested and sent back to Ethiopia. There is quite a lot of Ethiopians in Puntland. Some business flks as well. Before visiting soldiers and sometimes joint trainings. Its not like the old days where all these places were too far from each other and foreign to one another. People are on the move these days. Puntland was like Libya. Only humaine, maybe traffickeres, but still was with Ceeb. Now has dwindled to very few desperates that still want to get to Yemen and then another desert. What ever sinister or good Ethiopia can do is absolutely predicated on the Ethio-Somali. I know those from Somalia have hard time accepting this fact, but Ethiopia cannot and will not do aganst the Ethio Somali. If somebody in Somalia or Somaliland has problem with kilil 5 then sooner or later they are in trouble with Ethiopia.
