You are already a premier lol It does not work that way. I know you are on the Oromo side, but just like you know the Tigray Amhara competition, the Somali and Oromo are the same. As Tigray is to Amhara the Somali is to Oromo. The only difference is the Amhara can ally with the Tigray if he needs to, but the Oromo will not ally with a Somali. "History is a b*tch" the westerners say. The Somali is always independent and when lost independence is fighting. The Oromo history is bit different. That obstacle is not easy to cross. Its like you find it "impossible" to say anything good about Illey no matter if he did something "angelic". galbeedi will always find someone to give credit to other than Illey.

It is reflective of the general population up to Colonel level. Therefore is about 25-30% Oromo, 20-27% Amhara and the rest similar percentages, but with caveat. Every nationality has members in the forces. Its not like a nationality with 0.01 pecent of population would have 0.01 percent, but some of them maybe 2% of the forces. When they started General to soldier Tigray/Agew/Afar had more than 85% of the forces. In 20 years they are almost there to making generals as well. Remember from Soldier to General it would take 30 years for a person if kept in good order and shape. What they did for people like Abiy is train them well and started them from Captain or 1-2 levels below captain. It takes 5 years for Tigray to go from level to level but some Oromo, Amhara and others were fast tracked in 1-3 years.

World Happiness Index: Somalia top 10 Happiest countries in Africa
Old_Observer replied to Old_Observer's topic in General
On the one hand I agree with you that unless people are disgusted with current situation will not rise up to change it. On the other hand this culture is very strong requirement for survival and continuity of the Somali. If one is fast reactive, makes a lot of mistakes and can loose faith, culture, language very easily. -

Djibouti sanctions Jeeganlanders with Djiboutian passports
Old_Observer replied to Saalax's topic in Politics
Oodweyne, What if this is fake news? exagerated news? twisted news? will you apologize? If true: Doesn't Djibouti have all the right to control and protect her interest. There is nothing wrong about it. Remember you are not in 1990s when human life was at risk. Now its economic risk and that you should be prepared to live with consequences. Djibouti has not wronged anyone, even DP world, yet every joe and jane seems to think that Djibouti has no right, power, influence and will to stand up for her own interest, which is fair. You may be unhappy, but can not and should never blame someone for protecting his interest. You should actually be happy to see someone in Africa behaving and acting in his own interest and not being bullied by anyone including bigger powers. When it was humanitarian he did humanitarian, when commerce he did commerce and when security is doing security. -
UAE will equip & train Somaliland National Armed Forces
Old_Observer replied to Suldaanka's topic in Politics
Oodewetne, How about we bring the stove to higher tempreture by using SOL knob handled by galbeedi. It will cook faster may not taste good, but will cook faster, not uniformly. Just kidding. These things and speculations can affect life of some poor nomad somewhere for irrisponsible netters and politicians. You see what the British did: Banned Britain First and leaders from social media. The same Britain that was critical of Ethiopia for shuting down facebook in some areas where life and limb was at stake.- 28 replies

maybe both sides think that will benefit them. It could be necessary instrument for both sides. If you cannot win, at least weaken your opponent and next time you will. Its only 2 years left for election.

If you think UAE will pretend this is just buisness/commercial problem and should not affect the politics of the two countries, I am afraid you are mistaken. Bedewin cannot separate the state from the personal, the commerce from the politics and no formality or culture of doing that. One good thing is they will take their time to retaliate and that is time Somalia needs to put in order certain things on security.

Ethiopia: Statement MFA on Djibouti, Somaliland and GERD
Old_Observer replied to Old_Observer's topic in Politics
Absolutely. Uganda is main suspect and the hapennings after that are clear proof. Egypt is also suspected since works very hard to undermine Sudan in Darfur and South Sudan. Many people find it confusing about Ethiopia in the Sudan South Sudan issue. Its mostly driven by Sudan and also border security. -
UAE will equip & train Somaliland National Armed Forces
Old_Observer replied to Suldaanka's topic in Politics
That is completely different from that of Somaliland or Eritrea. USA also trained and supported with Puntland Ethiopia also did the same Having a base is different than co-operating or working together. UAE in Somaliland looks like same as the one in Eritrea and Yemen. UAE tried to get same in Sudan, but failed. I sense some hipocrisy here with Military bases. Aren't military bases more issue of sovereigntiy than ports internationally as known from past history?- 28 replies

Ethiopia: Statement MFA on Djibouti, Somaliland and GERD
Old_Observer replied to Old_Observer's topic in Politics
Very little through Kenya. Kenya was pushing for it, but Djibouti did not want it. Garang the South Sudanese killed in suspicious air crash had agreement with Ghelleh for oil pipeline and train/road through Ethiopia. He was killed within a month of the agreement go figure. Eritrea ,Uganda and Sudan were main dead set against this. Ethiopia and Somalia had plans for Kismayo in 2006, but evrything blew up. Mogadishu was main dead set against this. So Kismayo has been out of the picture. Kismayo of course is best located and locals in and around would have been supportive and co-operating to road and later railroad building, but too many "enemies" including Kenya. Ethiopia uses ports in Somaliland and Puntland for various purposes, Djibouti has no problem with this part. Port Sudan is also used by some areas in Tigray, Amhara and Benshangul regional states. The largest dry port in Djibouti was built after Sudan built dry port and gifted to Ethiopia. Ghelleh is fast, next day he selected land and gave it to Ethiopia. A really large dry port was built and is running. -
So Gebremichael is the deep state? As for Oromo, why not, they can have their day under the sun. The only question is they are working according to old formulae. The formulae of domination. They are aiming to dominate Ethiopia as did the Amhara with language, government, overloarding everyone. The rules have changed. Every Ethnic witll govern themselves, develop and use their language and plan their activities within their region. That is a game changer that happened 20 years ago. That is why the Oromo benefitted from this and now they have one territory governed by themselves, use their language for everything. Now they want to take Ethiopia back to the old system and have all Ethnics use Oromo language and have 1/2 of all government posts at federal. NO can do, and that is what they got. Already admitting their mistakes and making amends. No body in Ethiopia has objections to an Oromo becoming a PM, including Somalis. The objection is the Oromo cannot be thinking and working for domination of Somali. Its that simple.

Farmaajo asks Kheyre and Jawaari to end their conflict and reconcile
Old_Observer replied to Deeq A.'s topic in Politics
Yes of course. Ethiopia is poor in material wealth, but that is not what prevents her from buying pliticians if there is something in her interest. If we are going to honestly and fairly ask the question what is Ethiopia's interest in Somalia and what is Somalia's interest in Ethiopia without being all bent out of shape with past buggage: Security is Ethiopia's main interest and additionally commerce that can help with security. People are best guarantee of security ore than money. Common security based on people to people is best ever guarantee than anything else. Somalia's security is also Somalia's interest with Ethiopia, plus future commerce The resason Ethiopia has good relations with Somalis on the ground is, they are better positioned to see in action. You and I are mostly influenced by what Menelik, Haileslassie, Ziad Barre did or may have done. Current Ethiopia has none of that. Its not even considered to formulate policy. Remember: Poverty in material wealth is seasonal/centurial, but temporary. Poverty in morals is deadly. That is for the most part how the current culture in Ethiopia is guided. -
First the basic information: This meeting is only executive committee meeting has not much to do with Prime minister election It has yet to finish review meeting. Report of one of the parties remaining. Have reviewd report of 3 of the 4 until now Its the Central committee that can talk of Chirman/Prime minister galbeedi, Have patience. I know its hard to do when you are in the march for Menelik Palace with your Oromo brotherhood, but there are rules of the process and also procedures that cannot be skipped even for you. The central committee is expected to meet next week.

UAE will equip & train Somaliland National Armed Forces
Old_Observer replied to Suldaanka's topic in Politics
Somalilanders, Need to observe and inspect what UAE did in Eritrea, since you are in the same boat now. The only difference is you have another issue as well that of the port. But lets see what UAE did in Eritrea; The base is assumed to be for 20 years Eritrea is payed yearly Main purpose of base was and is being used for war in Yemen, but this is never mentioned by Eritrea and UAE UAE has demanded and got eviction of Eritrean forces from the whole area so UAE has unfettered and unmonitored access to whole province/district around the base. Eritrea has dismantled and taken away her army base that was 10km away from that of UAE Eritrea was forced to cut all its relations with Qatar. Until UAE base Qatar was protector, supporter everything of Eritrea. So much so that Qatar and Ethiopia cut their diplomatic relations. It takes a lot of abuse by other countries for Ethiopia to cut diplomatic relations, but Qatar was forcing Djibouti as "peace keeper" in border with Eritrea. UAE is worst and more Bedewinly arrogant than America. This has nothing to do with DP issue, but simply military base. I will summarize what UAE base in Yemen was capable to do so much destruction to country itself.- 28 replies

Farmaajo asks Kheyre and Jawaari to end their conflict and reconcile
Old_Observer replied to Deeq A.'s topic in Politics
Every country wants to do that. Send the politicians to the harshest part of nations activity, but unfortunately for you and a lot people around the world, the politicians have done a lot of work to prevent that and get their perks and pleasures assured. On a lighter side: What prevented you from blaming Ethiopia for this fracas among politicians? lol -
This is a statement that covers Everything: Djibouti will always be the mother port for Ethiopia Ethiopia's participation in Other ports do not conflict with Djibouti, but complement 15 Billion USD has been spent on Infrastructure for Djibouti port, roads, railroad and facilities ________________________________________________ Meles Alem MFA Spokesperson Addis Ababa, March 15, 2018 (FBC) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said Ethiopia will continue to primarily use port of Djibouti as a gateway for its import-export trade. Ethiopia’s move to develop alternative ports is useful for Djibouti as well, said Meles Alem, Spokesperson of MoFA, while briefing journalists on current issues today. However, the government of Ethiopia will continue to use port Djibouti as its main gateway for international trade, the Spokesperson reiterated. According to Meles, up to 15 billion US dollars has been spent during the past years to build infrastructures linking Ethiopia with Djibouti, such as roads, railway line and develop port. The construction of these infrastructures would contribute a lot towards facilitating and stimulating regional economic integration, he said. Regarding the Ethio-Djibouti commissioners/ and administrators meeting which was concluded yesterday, he said the two countries have agreed to prevent illegal trade, human trafficking and to further boost the socio-economic benefits of people of the two countries. Meles further indicated that Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt will hold their trilateral meeting on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in Khartoum, Sudan on April 4 and 5. ____________________________________________________________________________________

The best thing in here is having demonstrators to pressure the MPs rather than shooting. Hopefully this culture continues and grows.

Why not have self respect and say TPLF is at least sometimes is a donkey for the Somali? Give that train of thought a try and you will be amazed at what you can find. There are some Somalis hard to convince, but the truth is America was against Ethiopia supporting late A. Yusuf. Read wikileaks which came years later. Every opposition was stating that Ethiopia came to Somalia as American donkey. The facts were the opposite. The Shieks and warlords all went to Eritrea in the end just to prove that fact.

What a coincidence. I was just watching this scientist who has formulae for downfall of Empires. Now his formulae is giving him 2020 for the American empire. One of the factors was that: Empires do killing themselves, and when tires their satellites do the killing and he brought Britain denmark and Norway are the only ones left who would automatically no questions asked would do the work for America. Reason all these countries are same sect of protestant. The Catholic ones have now stopped doing the dirty work automatically. Your big mistake is that you always think of who ever Somali that has friendship with Ethiopia is proxy. That is wrong and in many cases will lead you to wrong conclusion and wrong enemy. First ask what does this Somali man or group has interest in this thing? When you do not find any interest or risk the Somali man is dealing with, then call him traitor, call him proxy, call him sell out....would be his responsibility to justify his actions. Don't start with proxy without completely satisfying yourself that the man/group has no self interest or risk.

Somalia: Saudi Arabia offers to mediate Somalia and UAE
Old_Observer replied to maakhiri1's topic in Politics
Yes. There are Somalis that worked on the roads and railroad Djibouti-Ethiopia with good practical experience and university degrees. They can work in Berbera and the roads between kilil and Somaliland and everything in between. Of course has to be for DP world salaries, otherwise they work for government corporations now good jobs and good pay.- 20 replies

The last thing a Somali does is being scared. Sometimes I think is something that may be helpful to have. I am serious when countries choose to start chinese business they really need to think it through because the chinese will not even give you guns. You have to protect yourself. Or you need to have different complementary relations with America. Puntland has this on the anti-terrorism and anti-piracy fronts. Puntland can do business with chinese safely.

I do not think he will want it. He is decisive and modern with technology, but not communicator, orator or much patience. Plus in General Tigray are not interested this time. If the Oromo agree to the expansion of EPRDF then its a new ball game. The Tigray and Amhara support the expansion, the South is neutral and the Oromo are dead set against it, since the first one in the expansion will be Somali kilil/Nationality.
