^^^^ MashaAllah, Beautiful naseeha! I think that it takes a great deal of personal will and conviction to actually prolong your ibadats and deny yourself sleep-all Alone with the Alone (Allah)! But that is why the reward is so tremendous! May Allah gives that patient and fortitude to take advantage of these last 10days of ramadan, inshallah.

Salams, Its important to keep that sense of bewilderment and mystique about you as a Politician and a symbol of traditional islam. Exposing yourself to your dictrators is not good for your image especially when they invite you and then mock you. I know as a sincere muslim that he accepted that invite but in such a situation caution and wisdom should have been persued by him. I heard that at Columbia, he made a comment to the effect that the Holocost did happen but what does that have to do with the Palestenian people???(in reference to Palestenians paying for the suffering of the jews by having their home invaded!) If anyone can post that quote, it would be appreciated. Inshallah, may allah preserve the believing men and women of this ummah.

What is outrageous is she is taking him to court asking non-muslims to condemn and punish her muslim brother. An what is worse than that is muslims feeling sorry for her and themselves condeming the man. What a sorry situation the muslims are in today. I second that!

I am sure she knew that by complaining this case would go straight into the main news due to the anti islam stance the media already has against us all. Besides I dont think he did anything wrong here. He was just giving her naseeha. May Allah help him. Almighty Allah says: ‘You are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind, you enjoin Al-Ma’ruf (whole Deen) and forbid what is Al-Munkar (all that is evil), and you believe in Allah’ [Ale-Imran v.110] [/QB] The brother did the right thing but didn't apply it wisely. With all these juhala (incl. card carrying muslims) out there, his approach should have been more subtle and he should have consulted with employment lawyers because now a sex discrimination case is being raised and he could loose his licence. (The only reward for putting truth first is Allah and certainely not popular consences). May Allah preserve this brother's Iman and preserve his sanity from the media onslaught and negative comments from the 'card carrying' muslims. Its Ramadan and we are fasting, so lets observe some restraint and ease up on the brother.

All is possible with GOD yet the cynics continue to deny it.

Its the story of Umm Habiba, daughter of Abu Sufyan who migrated to Abyssinia with her husband only to find that he leaves the deen and converts to Christianity. She chose the hire road and divorced him and as a result was rewarded for her patience and preservance- as bride of the prophet (salallahu caliyhe wasilm).

Plenty of cold showers, full time school, part time job, community work and house chores should take care of that problem. Only an i*diot parent would open a marital home for a child, essentially, so they can bring more children into the world. They can help them with education, trades training or even opening a business at some stage. Unless the parents want to have teens and their babies staying in their homes, with all the privileges of adulthood and none of the responsibilities. Most jobs require people to be at least 18 and with a high school diploma. Not to mention how expensive housing and other living costs have become. Muta'a or halal designation doesn't pay any bills. So it is a question of financial feasibility? Is Pragmatism the principle that should rule our lives? i.e. if it is impractical, then shun it. Your example is pro-pragmatism. What about the benefits of strenghtening family unions; developing a sense of responsbility in them; protecting them from zina/fornication ; Nurturing their healthy minds [ ; Teaching them life skills and trades Teenages are very employable albeit at the same time being very disposable- in the sight of employers. They can do part-time work, cash jobs and have community members provide apprenticiships to them.

Originally posted by Nephthys: quote: But then whose to decide legal age for marriage, if religion says its okey? The parent. It's ridiculous that we even need a legal age to tell people [ men ] to stay off 14 year olds. Children need to remain children as long as possible. This isn't back about 100+years ago, that what we consider to be kids now.. 13-15 year olds, were married off by the time they were 13 playing gariir or someother kids' game. Marrying children off and calling it OK, due to culture, religion, whatever have you, IS plain WRONG! To take advantage of little girls, is WRONG. Interresting how things change and then some times, go back to old ways. Wrong on what level? Biologically, they have hit puberity and as we all know-puberity is the turning point in one's life from childhood to adulthood. In the deen, once you become balagih, your sins become recorded and the grace period experies. If someone could post why the age of say 18 or 16 become the standard marker for Adultood, please do share.

Reporting him may not give you satisfactory/immediate remedy but it will eventually build a case against such a lousy officer who, as you narrated, stopped you for no apparent reason.. Saxib, When the officer brought up the issue of an "immigration warrant" and me being a possible match-the images ran through my head of all those stories about muslim brothers being sent off to Camp X or in a dark hole and being labelled the "Catch of the Month". Had I asked for his badge #, he could have just made up a story and put me away. Ain't no body care about a male black muslim being put away. We are already at the bottom of the pole in terms of our "approval ratings" in the media. Not a good prospect at all. Tired as hell, working 2-3 jobs, fasting in ramadan and being interrogated for fitting the atypical sterotype. Its humiliating to say the least.

However, all is justified interms of their treatment because the media picks up on the story and they are immediately labelled as a "security threat" and kept in a dark room for the next 2 yrs or sent off to Camp X in no man's land. Farax, I don't know what world your living in but smell the damn shaax and wake up from it.

Salams, Just wanted to share with the nomads something that happened to me the other night. I was driving home late the other night when I saw a cop car behind me. I checked my baramoter to see if I was speeding and slowed down a bit even though I was within the speeding limit. Well, lo and behold the cop car's lights came on and I had to pull over. My driver's licence, insurance and vehicle registration were asked for. Officer tells me that there is a "sticker" issue on my licence plate i.e. too many and thus the reason for pulling me over  Well saxibo proceeds to do a check on me in his car and comes back a few minutes later and asks me "Did you live at 50 #######" and I tell him "no". Well the officer who happens to be Black tells me "Well your name and information matches with someone with an outstanding "Immigration Warrant". "Where you born here?". I tell him "No but I am a citizen" and gave the proof. Well, lo and behold he tells me "I'll still have to investigate on this" and goes back to his car. Can you imagine what was going through my mind??? I've been pulled over once for no reason but no immigration issues were ever raised it was just a case of "driving while black". However, this time around it was Driving while being Black and Muslim !

Let He Who Is Without Sin Cast The First Stone What is being implied by that quote: We should abstain from judging and no longer see what is Good and Bad??? are somehow equalled to give the impression that 'modest rebellion' against fasting (if there is such a thing), is as normal as 'persuading her daughter to eat the greens' . I mean c'mon, the BBC can sample these women as what kind of Muslims they want, but to naturalize 'modest rebellion against fasting' as an acceptable practice as a Muslims, truly sends out the wrong message to many impressionable minds. Its is precisely this movement of the sly fox with Subtle Suggestions that becomes an effective and potent tool in the battle for the Muslim Heart and Mind. PS: I think some of us here are admiring these women not far the strength of their faith but their short-comings. Sure, we all have short-comings but to lend our support to them due to the fact that we would like not to be judged for our own short-comings, you know, that odd ciggerette or shiisha and things like that, isn't all too good. Some of us my even have the forgetfulness to observe some rituals but surely that is a weakness and not strength Spot On! What is funny is these people are more than willing to "Judge" traditional muslims and conservative muslim values but won't allow for any conservatively minded judgements to be made by others. Thats a contradiction and what it ends up suggesting is that you can't debate with these people because it is Sentiment that overrides their responses. This often turns the debate into something profane and self-serving like a playground name calling match.

^^^^^ I agree, calling someone a Munafiq is a very harsh lable. On another note, I just read the muslim version of 'Glamour Girl' titled "Muslim Girl". They have some seriously suspect people as contributors and funny enough-tit for tat, the magazine has hijabis and non-hijabis striking glamour girl like poses. The whole symbolsim of hijab and gender differences in Islam is thrown out the window.....

Its a Social Taboo to ask another muslimah to wear hijab or ask another muslim to come to salat etc. However, you can always ask them to finish University and why they can't get a job because those questions help in producing the "ideal citizen". Proof is in the pudding, ask any of your relatives why they don't wear hijab and/or observe the beard and/or pray salat and see what they say to you and their reaction as a oppossed to asking them why they haven't finished school or found a job. Elysian, Its a question of what is defined as Normality-the Norm? And does the Norm = the Good? For if it does, then any practicing muslim with a traditional islamic mind set can and is often deemed to be "Abnormal".

Thats a very modern and self serving way of "re-interpreting" that idea. Its like quoting an ayat that says that Allah loves that righteous and saying that Hitler was a righteous devout Christian and thus loved by Allah. How can the Muslim be equated (= )with the Non-Muslim? Especially in that ayat that. Here are is the rest of that surat that highlights my point: 34. So today, that is, the Day of Resurrection, the believers will be laughing at the disbelievers, 35. upon couches, in Paradise, gazing, out from their dwellings at the disbelievers while they are being tortured; and they will laugh at them just as they, the disbelievers, had laughed at them in the world. 36. Have the disbelievers been requited for what they used to do? Yes, indeed!

Lilly said: These sort of programmes are simultaneously positive and patronizing, in effect what they are saying is 'Oh look, apart from having a love for blowing people up, some of them actually have brains, work, and have kids, and they joke! Oh my God, she uses the same chocolate brownie recipe as I do! This is very confusing, they must be normal then, quiet normal if only it wasn't for that tinee tiny thing called Islam. What a shame'. Funny enough they rarely show a clip of a muhajibah or niqaabi who is tradional in attire and mind set and happens to be a home maker. What is often shown is a sound bit of those sisters agreeing with the idea of "Jihad" and responding to leading questions that Sound Bit Journalist often raise to traditionally thinking muslims. i.e. Niqabi offers tea to the reporter, reporter asks the first question-Do you support the killing of innocent people? Journalism at its best  Here is an example of a leading or rhetorical question- Is it really that wrong to show others that our women are intelligent, independent and Muslim, all at the same time? The question really is-Why the interest in Muslim Women? Why the overwhelming interst in praising "modern" muslim women and demonizing a muslim women that is a home mamker or wants to go to a madrassah?

Salams, Originally posted by Zenobia: Kalaf and Dabshid How about you obey Allah by following This Command; quote: Tharnee waman khalaqtu waheedan Thats not actually just a command but a curse and an oath by Allah to deal with the treachery and blasphemy of Al Walid ibn al Mughirah, a rich poet of Quraysh. He used to frequent the Prophet (sallahu caliyhe wasilm) and when Abu Jahl heard of this, he approached him and questioned his honor. Al-Walid ibn al-Mughirah was in the habit of visiting the Prophet, Allah bless him and give him peace, and Abu Bakr so much so that the Quraysh thought he was going to embrace Islam. Abu Jahl then said to him: ‘The Quraysh claim that you visit Muhammad and Ibn Abi Quhafah to share food with them’. Al-Walid said to the Quraysh: ‘You are people of noble lineages and sound minds, but you claim that Muhammad is mad. Have you ever seen him seized by a bout of madness?’ They said: ‘No!’ He said: ‘And you claim that he is a soothsayer; have you ever seen him soothsaying?’ They said: ‘No!’ He said: ‘You claim that he is a poet; have you ever heard him utter poetry?’ They said: ‘No!’ He said: ‘You claim that he is a liar; have you ever caught him lying?’ They said: ‘No!’ The Quraysh said to al-Walid: ‘What is he, then?’ He thought for a while, looked and frowned and then said: ‘He is nothing but a sorcerer’, hence Allah’s saying (For lo! he did consider; then he planned…) [74:12] up to His saying (This is naught else than magic from of old)”. This story is in the tafsirs of this ayat in the major works such as Qurtabi and Razi. The point of that ayat is to show that betraying and insulting the Prophet (sallahu caliyhe wasilm) was no light matter to Allah and Al Walid's actions warranted a strong reaction-straight from Allah. This ayat is not a testament to western ideals of "ye judgment me not" or "no one can judge me but God" (I think what was 2pac! lol). Intelligence is discrenment and discrenment is the ability to JUDGE btwn right and wrong. This is what makes Bani Adam different from Animals (or as Johnny Boy like to say-His Ancestors! ) A believer can make a judgment and if anyone has a right to judge it is the Believer. What is in question is the mannerism in which the judgement is made? i.e. verbalized, physically, etc. Its a question of Adab also which often most of us forget when judging others. Fi Amanillah

Salams, Originally posted by Ms Dhucdhuc & Dheylo: According to Khayr, it is. Unfortunately, preventing people from being aware of the often sophisticated arguments used by non-religious, makes them vulnerable to those arguments when they do eventually encounter them. The same argument can be made for teaching children sex education when they 9yrs old because if they are not made aware of sex and the dangerous of HIV then they may be ill informed about such issues and practice "unprotected sex"....Thats an absurdity-Right? The argument that you, sis made will take you and others down a slippery slope that just gets greaser everytime we try to go down it. What I am talking about in Chomsky's words is Manufactoring Consent where in through such mediums as "Radio" interest groups with financial backing are able to set the "AGENDAS" by selection of topics, by distribution of concerns, by emphasis and framing of issues, by filtering of information, by bounding of debate within certain limits. What that ultimately leads to is the deconstruction of truth and putting it in the hands of those Agenda Setters. Truth becomes monopolized and relativized by these Agenda Setters. i.e. Mel Gibson was the sexiest man alive in the 90's, today-he is more known for his "anti-semitism" then his looks because of the campaign that has been launched against him Murdoch and his likes. Just look around you, 10-20yrs ago people living together outside of marriage was a social taboo and considered as an 'immoral act'. Today, people are nonchalant about it and some, even encourage such a lifestyle and see it as a stepping stone towards marriage. And Yoniz, Dubai is full of expatriates and the muwatanees are the minority but its their "land" and they enforce their "racism" very well on others and the above example is just one of many examples of racism practiced in Dubai and the U.A.E. Originally posted by Ms Dhucdhuc & Dheylo: Salaam Khayr Is talk radio unislamic? Talk radio isnt necessarily unprincipled. Even those talk radios in this country (UK), It is not true that anything goes. They are regulated by the media regulator Ofcom, and censored when it is necesssary. Then there is the Press Complaints Commission for the audiances that arent happy about the behaviour of journalists which you think breaks the press Code of Practice . Though they maybe "Regulated" through regulatory boards it does not exculde it from propogating certain amoral values. Talk radio propagates liberalism and ideas such as "Freedom of Expression", "Freedom of Opinion", "Freedom of the Press" etc. It is these same ideas that have brought out the conflict btwn Religion and Secularism. The "God Centered" society has been pinned up, rejected and replaced by the "God Excluding" society. What Talk Radio and Radio and general promote and reflect are "current" values. It promotes a 'Mob-like Thinking' wherein the Talk Jockey lead by his financiers (the corporate world with their particular agendas) leads the Mob in 2min. streams of thought that everyone has to agree with it. They set what are the 'Values' and what is to be held as a "Social Taboo" if not "Illegal". Imagine having a poll on the radio in Damscus on whether women should wear Niqaab or men Shave their beard for a job interview? And the callers would largerly agree with the Talk Jockey's liberal position of saying yes to shaving the beard off for an interview because in there opinion its only a sunnah (just a hypothetical example!) Therefor, using the example of having quran or duruus on a radio show thus justifying talk radio is not judging the "Serpent" appropriately but saying that due to his smooth skin, he is beautiful and would make a good house pet.

I just this from another site and thought that it might be nice to share with other SOL nomads. Its basically fiqh questions and people's response to them. i.e. a Fiqh Quiz Here goes the first question: Hiba wore leather socks in the state of purity. She took her leather socks off after five hours (whilst still in the state of wudu). She then decided to wear them again. In this situation is she obliged to do the full wudu again before wearing the socks? Please explain.
