^^^ MashAllah, shiekh faisal from chicago sounds ever so beautiful. Very touching recitation. Al Ghaamdi has a beautiful recitation and so does the master - abdul basit abdul samid. I personally like the soothing voice of al hudaify (imam of masjid nabiwawi).

Somalis in secular countries, such as Holland, the US or India, who having been reaping the many benefits of secularism, including protection of religious rights, to criticise secularism per se. Would not that sound hypocritical? This is the argument from the point of few of arrogance. Somalis in the diaspora have for the large part - remained shut out from the wealth and good life that "secularism" has promised them. Instead, they have been told that they can only apply for min'm level jobs and that all there kids can graduate from university but will be cabbie's and office cleaners. So long as they still hold allegiance to Islam. That is the caveat. If Somalis let go of their muslim names and religion, then they are welcome. Deeqa with the hijab ain't getting that job but once she throws it off, the opportunities then broaden up for her.... There are more wholes in this writers arguments then in swiss cheese.

So this morning at work, the usual humming birds close by are chatting up about nonesense. This story however was interesting. So one of the girl's has a roommate (she cant pay off her condo alone) and this roommate is a male. Wa yamican! She's maadhu too but from somewhere else. Anyways, she is telling her friend that last night she couldn't sleep because...because ....because of all the rux ruxin that was happenin next to her room. So she tells her friend, that her door was open (her friend tells her - why didn't u close the door?. Anyways, she responds - i always keep my door balaaq/open. Anyways, as she proceeds to chat away she starts to mention that the her roommates girl or night partner is a muslim girl and that she is suppose to be from a religious family and then she mentions that it is Ramadan too and she was doin the rux ruxin' in ramadan. So once i hear this, i am embarassed and angred by it. So in anycase, she asks me-can u have "some" during ramadan. I was blowin away by her question and then was put in a predicament. So I foolishly answered her question (i was caught btwn a rock and ....u know how the saying goes). Sssstupid people. SubhanAllah, it is ramadan (the first nights) and i'm hearing about another muslimah getting toppled up by a yamican.

Islamophobia surge in the US: A Muslim is the boogeiman
Khayr replied to General Duke's topic in General
what is the point of having a masjid at that site? It is foolishness and it fuels hatred towards muslims. -
It looks like a joke and the joke is on them and the audience that goes to pay to see this.

If the honkees feel justified to drop by people's countries and control their "morals" and "conduct", then can't others make the same argument, on the flip side. That picture is there to stir emotion. Why didn't they try to give that girl surgery for her nose instead of spending time putting make up on her and doing up her hair.

How to eat nutritious food and stay fit this Ramadan
Khayr replied to Chocolate and Honey's topic in General
btw if you can only have one sanbuus, might as well have none. exactly, my sentiments too. There are foods that I only see during ramadan. One thing is key though, you need fiber so take in alot of fiber (oatmeal, barley, fruits) and drink alot of water. Where possible, avoid juices. -

Will Somali society become more religious or secular in the future?
Khayr replied to General Duke's topic in General
If affluence flows, then the Somali diaspora communits will become and have become more liberal mind setted and less practicing of the deen. Thinking like the gaalo is no longer something to detest and hate. It is something to tolerate and praise as forward thinking and "intellectual" and being "open minded". The hadith about Poverty being the cloak of the rasul (salallahu caliyhe wasilm) comes to mind, when I see the Somali diaspora communities. It is the poverty, that has kept them still aligned with the deen (for the most part). The inaccessibility of the dunya, of better lifestyles, the single mother phenomena's, the joblessness etc., has made the various somali communities more religious. Strange but true. -
She only has 200 posts in 6 yrs. She lacks presence in SOL to be Moderate rooms. I say let Ngonge moderate the Islam room, or better yet - Layzie G.

The hadith comes to mind about following the nasaar and the yahuud, even if is to a fox hole. This is a baaastradization of the islamic scholarship. Taqwa and righteousness are not measured by votes and popularity. The majority do not dictate what is good or bad, or who is righteous or not, contrary to modern society. The Islam paradigm is based on revelation and the sunnah of the rasul (Salallahu caliyhe wasilm) and the sayings and teachings of the great ulama (1400yrs worth of islamic scholarship). This is a pure farce and a mockery of the deen.

Handsome politicians get more time on TV and attractive employees make more money, so you might think it's safe to assume that being ridiculously good looking is a career advantage. Not so fast. A new study found attractive people can actually be at a disadvantage when interviewing for a new job or academic scholarship. In a paper titled "Don't Hate me Because I'm Beautiful," published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, Maria Agthe of Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich and her co-authors, Matthias Spörrle (Ludwig-Maximilians-University) and Jon K. Maner (Florida State University), describe the results of two experiments aimed at discovering the perks and pitfalls of being hot. In the first test, 2,639 students were told to behave as if they were on a scholarship selection committee. They were given information on a group of finalists including grades, extracurricular activities and, most importantly, photos. The pictures had been tested in advance by an unconnected group of 40 students in order to determine attractiveness. As might be expected, both men and women chose the most attractive candidate far more than the least attractive, with men being slightly more biased toward the attractive candidate than women (no surprise there). However, the attractiveness bias held only when panel members were evaluating members of the opposite sex; when a man evaluated a man, or a woman a woman, the favouritism toward the good looking ceased. In other words, being good looking ceased to be an advantage when being judged by someone of the same sex. The researcher's second test expanded on this conclusion with fascinating results. The second experiment asked 622 students to play the role of recruiter and evaluate job applicants. Again, information about each applicant included a photo which had been independently judged to be either attractive or moderately attractive. The major difference between the two tests was that in the second, the attractiveness of the evaluator was also recorded. Again, men and women gave the advantage to attractive candidates when dealing with the opposite sex, while judging attractive candidates of the same sex more harshly. However, the same-sex bias against attractiveness didn't hold in every situation. When the interviewer was highly attractive themselves, they did not disadvantage an attractive candidate. Only when dealing with someone more attractive than themselves did the interviewer tend to form a negative impression. Agthe suggests the results are caused by "those for whom highly attractive same-sex competitors present a particularly pernicious social challenge." So once again, it all boils down to evolutionary biology. While an attractive member of the opposite sex would make a desirable mate, one of the same sex would only pose competition - competition that would only come into play if the hottie was better looking than you (maybe with shinier fur for example). The study raises interesting questions about the recent dismissal of a Citibank employee, allegedly on the grounds that she was too hot. Debrahlee Lorenzana has launched a lawsuit claiming that her male co-workers orchestrated her dismissal on the grounds that her good looks were "too distracting." It begs the question: Could there be a point at which someone becomes too attractive? Or, so enticing they might attract too many mates, creating conflict within a community that would hamper hunting and gathering? Could a person really be too good looking for their own good? Inquiring minds want to know. Yahoo news Next time, I want an all women panel of interviewers.
