Kashafa, Too much information is out there pal. U see the trouble with all this information is there is no way to authenticate them. Even in the event documents are declassified the spin masters will see to it that you the lay folk hear six to ten accounts. Thsi kinda tactic reduces the folks who question the official line and the ones who give credence to the so-called conspiracy theories as naive uninformed fellaz who swallow all sorts of stories. Having said that, one thing is clear and that is the world's resources be it water or oil are getting scarce by the decade and those who have the might to safeguard their national interest will do whatever is necessary to gaurantee their nation that their national interests are protected. Despite the rethoric there is no moral superiority when it comes to this struggle over resources. It has always been this way. The dictum that might makes right has always been the standard. Thusidius (check spelling) was right in his account on the Athenians and Milos. It really sums up...In response to Milans' plea to be left alone on moral grounds, Athenians tell it as it has been then and as it is now and as it will be in the forseeable future: "The powerful exact what they can and the weak grant what they must". No wonder nations are armed to the teeth...they understand what Homer's historical account implied. In my humble opinion, conspiracy stories whether they exist or not are tall tales the weak parties in any conflict tell to themselves in order to soothe their pains.

Is this modern education a solution to the world's problems or part of the problem that blinds us to the real issues and gives us a false sense of individual achievement? Education not only enlightens us but it also empowers us in so many ways sxb. Unless the qualifier "modern" implies something, the answer of the firt part of your question is in the affirmative. Education is a solution to the world's problems. From medical advances to engineering marvels, knowledge gained through educational institutions is enabling us to understand and tame nature. I once read a qoute (by Twain or Waldo I'm not sure who said it) that says and I'm paraphrasing it..don't let your schooling get in the way of ur education. I guess that sums the whole thing up. By schooling he meant the school rituals and the very culture that's prevalent in these institutions. And by education I guess he meant the ability to question, to examine, to doubt, and to arrest premature judgments and instead base conclusions and beliefs on facts by employing critical thinking. I think your criticism is valid as long as it is directed at human greed and the capitalistic mindset that puts high premium on bottom line. The educated or rather talented professionals who achieve upward mobility and enrich themselves do so by making sure that the bottom line of the entity that employs them is met by any means necessary. These able folks do what they do best not because they are "educated" but rather they think as Michael Douglus in Wall Street the movie argues in his speech to shareholders that "greed is good". If anything they are well informed, well read, and capable of weighing pros and cons on any decision or choice they may make but some of them chose to live la vita dolce by compromising their moral ethics.

"Man's accidents are God's purposes" by Sophia "Life consists of what man think of all day" by Emerson "The difference between rot(?) and grave is the depth" N?A Somalis have many aphorism too hek they even have one on aphorism "Af daboolan Dahab"...three words.

Originally posted by NomadicQueen: P.S. There is another wonderful outlet for your need to compete for the prize of "most intelligent faarax award"...its called Starbucks. You will find your predecessors there debating over things they do nothing about. You can sit at there feet with a cappuccino and soak up the plethora of knowledge they have to offer. Dont have a ride home? No worries, an army of taxis await you in the parking lot, just one of the many perks of being such a smart Faarax. Waja maneeniyaakoooooow mujaja Starbucks rocks...we love it...it's our second home...and cabbies are very considerate to give us a ride when we miss the bus. Guess what I saw u there too the one in Duluth...don't deny it now.

Juxa, the funny thing is we're on the same page on this one. Adeer my daughter is in good hands. I have 13 years to show her the way, tell her how things are, teach her the good Book, instill in her the moral code through example, and by the time she's ready to experiment things on her own I hope I would have met my responsiblities. Same thing with my boy...will try to teach him few things that enabled his old man to get by. As to buuryo-qab being ceeb. No I think I know someone who wouldn't answer if u say his name Ali. To get his attention u gotta holler at waryee Ali Buuryo-qab...Somalis are not good at choosing nicks for others I tell ya. Speaking of nicks have u ever heard of that song A Boy named Sue by the man in black himself and I do mean Johnny Cash...try it here n u would hear a tough cookie telling story about parenting, a rebel child, irresponsible dad, and stuff in that nature.

^Not true. Regional autonomy was what was declared. There is a difference between the two.

This is putting the cart before the horse kinda deal. One of the political maxim, from prince the book (not sure where I read it or heard it), is not to declare measures you don't have the means to implement them...it just exposes the weaknesses of your power. Jowhar faction has a high moral ground especially in its stated aims namely stablizing Somalia and reinstating the political State with all its trappings. What it lacks is a genuine leadership that's well versed in politics and the art of compromise. It is true that the strong man has budged twice (with great difficulty and for the first time we have seen him swallowing his pride) but to tell the bitter truth it was too damn late. Why for the love of Allah would you declare 20000 force you don't have and can't get...scare the lords! Well he did that alright. Things are not happening friends and this talk of dividing the country into regions without consulting with the very powers that denied this government its place and contained it in the Mohamed Dheere's turf won't fly and he knows it but this is for the consumption of the flag wavers I guess for they swallow anything and I mean anything...

Who, feminists! a moral voice? Well, may be! Wait yeah I do have a right to take a maternal leave; an awesome privilege enjoyed by married employees with children  . Pundits say it was feminists' initiative that successfully highlighted the need for family-friendly work place. In addition, feminists took part in the fight for social justice - issues such as sexual harassment, equal pay, maternity leave, and domestic violence. In some cases, feminists led the fight. However, one would be hard pressed to assert that the very group that introduced, advocated, and championed sexual revolution, abortion, and queerism have a morality to their madness. Yes, madness I said! And I do acknowledge the gender inequality and gender oppression in what essentially can be referred to a patriarchal society. Nevertheless to single out one oppression among many (race, class, etc) and elevate it to religion-like fervor with ant-male prejudice defeats the purposes and in some cases borders madness. By_the_way, I was very careful not to foam in the mouth ala she-camel .

Aerowen, Validated Sunnah, palatable or not, is always acceptable to me abaayo. Phraonic Gudnin is not acceptable. I condemn this practice very strongly. In my humble opinion circumcision does not prevent abortion. I fail to see the connection. Likewise, circumcision even the phraonic one is not an effective deterrent to pre-marital sex.
-
In Conclusion, Gudidda as done in Somalia should be banned, no girl should go through that life threatening ritual , if on the other hand a consensus is reached by a competent Medical Professionals and Religious Scholars of the safety of a Sunnah compliant Gudid surgery , that will help a minor cope with sexual pressure without compromising her marital sentiments, then I am emboldened more than ever to say that I am all for it, and I stand by my statement until proven wrong. Crystal clear. This clarification should be on the record. I'm sure almost all of the readers who objected the Gudnin as we know it in Somalia (phroanic custom where female genitals are disfigured) can find this paragraph acceptable. On this score I do agree with you.

^No. We shouldn't curse anyone. My take on this is why not. Why not have a thriving and halal biz going especially for the one of the biggest Islamic holidays. I'm for building the ciid hype up...actually I spiced it up so much for my kids sometimes I wonder if I can deliver their wishes.
