  1. Morning Mr. Oodweyne. What do you make of the process of elimination UIC is engaged of? Wise? Necessary? Strategic? How about the selective approach in which supportive warlords are spared from the knive whereas other warlords are given an ultimatum to submit or else? Is this a short term strategy? Where does Hargeisa see itself in relation to the events in Mogadishu? Does the new found understanding btw the West and TFG pose any diplomatic backlash against the separatist enclave? Or do the emergency of UIC and the prospect of another deadly round of "uncivil" war strengthen secessionists' cause? How about the boys that crossed the border with military hardware that belongs to SL what do you make of that? I understand that tough-talking and hawkish vice-president made provacative statement he can't follow through whereas Cadde Musse reply to the charge was dismissive in tone and briliant in diplomatic lexicon! Awoowe Oodweyne igu akhri waxii Ilaahay ku baray Ya heard me! An anaylsis from the meastro of the house is in order!
  2. ^ Ayaan darro Calm down kidos! Don't get too excited fella!
  3. Lion Teaser, good to be back sxb. There are a lot of folks who have lost a whole lot of money in this one. Insha'Allah they will recover their investment in due time. I've seen folks from all over the globe getting all worked up and they don't even know who to blame or what to do or where to start they are just angry and I mean dead angry mainly cuz they don't have enough time to stick around. On a side note, the city is too dirty. East Leigh district is an overcrowded corner full of qaat-addicts and street hustlers. The infrastructure is almost non-existent. In short the city is a neglected ghetto. Darn the dust alone can give you a serious germ let alone uncovered sewage lines. On the upside, the biz is booming and there are three-star hotels within East Leigh proper. I've seen folks who made fortunes in last 16 years. I have met guys who have formed small company in late 2000. Guess what? Their company is worth have million and employs over sixteen employees mostly Somali Kenyans because of government regulations. They have security guards, a lawyer, a manager, and an auditor. Darn! it was very impressive. East Leigh has now high-rises built by Dalsan and Amal companies. City slickers are abound too. Trucking business is well alive and Somalis now own valuable real estate in Nairobi (South C for instance). They are really a force to reckon with. You name it and any brand is imported (from China of all places and Asia minor) by Somali businessmen. There are no middlemen except Health Care products (because of government regulations and expensive license plus corruption). Man! folks will tease with a catch phrases like "what have you done for yourself" and "you must have a load of money in your bag" and "how much do you have...200 grand perhaps". What an attitude! The confidence and ambition is heartwarming. I was shown plan after plan cuz they thought I am a potential investor. The tribalism is a factor in this too. Only folks in your clan will approach you unless you have friends in other clans. The wealth is in the hands of men, mostly, with Islamic orientation. It is amazing. On the other side of the coin, the poverty is rampant. It is heartbreaking wallahi. Women, veiled women, with children (I have a sensitive heart for this) standing in front of hotels and masjids trying to make the ends meet by asking handouts is as common as pedestrians. Where are the men who fathered these kids you wonder sometimes? My heart goes out for them. As a father I can only imagine the heartache of not knowing what to feed these lil angels. I'm humbled wallahi. Once they figure you are newcomers you count on scores of them coming after ur behind every time you come out. The good thing I liked about this is that hotel owners don't abuse these women by trying to remove them near the gates. That's very nice of them I thought. The other thing I noticed is that almost all the women are veiled ninja style. Get this! Some of them do this not out of piety per se I was told but out of protecting their faces and other parts from the dust. The "Diana factor" is a big issue. Too much skin bleaching has its side effect too I was told. Their skin is now very sensitive. Prostitution and other deviants are another problem and concern for the health agencies. What else...hmm...I guess that's about it. Will post some pics Insha'Allah.
  4. Abaayo I just came back from Nairobi. I have an intimate Knowledge of the inside story of the Dalsan collapse. It is a nasty game if you ask me. FYI Sheikh Umal and co. tried their best to bring some common sense into this with no avail. The thing is most of the shareholders, regional agents as well as top managers are folks with Islamic orientation. The credibility and integrity of well known sheikhs hangs in the balance wallahi if agreeable resolution is not reached asap.
  5. Good one. Salaan Carabeey is one of my fav poets. He is a literary giant. His take on age and aging process is of a particular interest to moi. This particular gabay is very famous. Waxba yaannu xaalkay ii marin, xoolana ii siine, Xaashaaye nin libin kaa xistiyey xumihi waa yaabe! Right on! Kashafa, this particular poem is about brother-in-law who came to poet's home for handout. In nomadic tradition in-laws are accorded to special treatment. Salaan is complaining about old age and low funds to do right for this particular in-law as he has done throughout especially in the heydays of his prime years. In the same token he is making a statement about youth indescretion. He's taking a lil dig at the young lad by saying for guns at ur age it is all about material world, getting more, and spending like no tommorow!...
  6. Change of heart - the Somali way Waxa-la-Yiri editorial By Wiil-Hoog The cycle of idiocy continues. Mogadishu has changed hands again and the TFG is holed up in Baidowa still. Nothing has changed as far as the big picture is concerned. As before Mogadishu the real price of Somali politiking is under the control of group that's not on the same page with TFG. The Somali tragedy is not over as many might have hoped. TFG has made gains in the UN, Arab League, AU, and other concerned parties centers. By the same token it has committed a self-inflicted suicide at the home front. If the latest reports of Somali xaafado on the net are something to go by, refusing to negotiate with the real power that controls Mogadishu is a political plunder in highest degree. By refusing to participate in the preplanned peace conference, the TFG is choosing to appease foreign forces who don't have the interest of the Somali people at heart. Waxa-la-Yiri editors would like to remind the TFG top brass the age-old wisdom that you only make peace not with friends but with enemies. To choose Aideed camp over IUC camp is not only ****** but it is also a declaration of war against the very folks who control the much priced Mogadishu. The courts have made some wise moves. They denounced terrorism and distanced themselves from Osama and his associates. They are willing to open up their homes for inspection if that's the price they have to pay in order to avoid uncle Sam's wrath. Above all, and I'm impressed by their shrewdness, they are willing to recognize the TFG and hand over Mogadishu to them. All they are asking is a matual recognition. There is a room for negotiation still. One cannot have both ways. The IUC have to understand that TFG is a government, a transitional one with a "mandate". They may not like the top dog of the TFG but still he is an elected man. As such TFG cannot accept to come Mogadishu as a guest for the powerful IUC. TFG should have authority and muscle to to back up that authority. Likewise the TFG should not have a sudden change of heart. Moreover it should rethink bringing FTs. to the country. If IUC agrees, in principle, to accomodate the government security plans, the TFG top brass should consider seriously to incorporate IUC militia into the so called national army as it has done to Puntland militia that are now part of "national army". It is not easy proposition but it is doable project. Waxa-la-Yiri is getting feeds that are not that much encouraging. It seems that both sides are not open for compromises and compromise, as this age-old profession suggest, is an essential ingredient of practical politics. On a side note, the IUC's credibility is in question for good reason. The inclusion of Indhacade in the ranks of IUC is preplexing to say the least. It could be the case that he now supports their bid to bring normalcy to most of the south. We don't why that is the case but the assumption is that he shares clan affiliation with forces behind the IUC. If that is the case then to give other likeminded warlords two choices: surrender or else all the while this man is allowed to keep hos weapon and territory is not a good start. Their current attitude toward consolidating control of the city defeats the purpose. All in all, Somalis in the south will have peace of mind when the two sides are talking to each other in order to end the civil war. Anything short of that will only exacerbate the suspicion and animosity and the risk of all out war looms... Waxa-la-Yiri News Desk Warsan iyo Weersan ii soo wac
  7. Dalsan is no more. Over seven million of US dollars are missing from the purse! Dalsan is founded and run by two respected men. The problem stem from disagreement between the two founders according to Waxa-la-Yiri news source. Scores of investors (from all over the world) made their way to Nairobi in order to find more info about this unexpected biz blunder. To their surprise they have been told that the company has lost this much money through unconventional lending practices. It went like this: Company agents would lend money to friends or relatives (against company's own guidelines) and fix the books later. This practice has been going on over last four years. Most of the folks whom money have been lent to never paid back. Ironically the top brass who run the biz didn't lose that much money. Small investors (shares that range from 50K and below have lost every penny. Angry and disappointed shareholders are demanding to put Dalsan's real estate on sale and proceeding from that sale be distributed (equally) to all investors. This is Somali version of Enron fiasco nay I take it that back...this one is 6 degrees above Enron! Ironically Somali media has nothing to say about this important business story. Waxa-la-Yiri news will undertake an investigative report and get the scoop on this out to the public IA.
  8. Glad that Somali Anarchist renditions are back in business.
  9. Amin to that ducaa yaa Nur. Looking forward to read ur take on this one. I hope you touch all the basis.
  10. One more bridge to cross! Waxa-la-yiri news tidbits War iyo wacaale as it happens Another day in the make-belief world of Somali conflict! Waxa-la-yiri’s veteran journalist who is imbedded in Courts militia is reporting that Jowhar, the provincial capital, has fallen to Courts militia. Jowhar is now under courts’ column. Things are moving rapidly. Our staff’s fuusto is full of dispatches. Our Mundul complex in no man’s land has been inundated with war iyo wacaale. To bring clarity to the latest news we asked Dr. Warmooge to weigh in. Courts move to Jowhar was necessary preemptive strike against “gathering†threat, Dr. Warmooge explains. It is puzzling, he continues, that Bush’s doctrine is used by unlikely militia on another type of terrorist kind - warlords. Dr. Wax-ma-yaqaan, the dean of Nation-Building Symposium, a think tank founded and funded by Nomadic School of Hard Knocks, echoes with Dr. Warmooge’s sentiment. The attack on Jowhar is a textbook example of finishing off weak and defeated foe. Courts are pursuing the remnants of forces loyal to Maxamed Dheere in high speed chase never seen since Ceydiid’s last touchdown play in the Gedo and Kismayo stadium in early nineties. It is likely that courts will keep chasing the warlords until they close off the FeerFeer gate which has served for Ethiopians as conduit to channel logistical assistance to their favorite warlords. The real question is how long courts can maintain a standing army in area as large as the one they control now. Another equally important question is whether they can keep a tight lid on the clannish feelings that’s brewing under the surface. The timing of the attack is unmistakable. Tomorrow US will convene a conference on Somalia. US’s priority is clear; it wants to formulate a policy that's consistent with its larger "war on terror" policies. What it needs is a regional support for its new approach. Given the sudden hundred eighty degree policy turn, the announced slate of attendees, IGAD’s adamant support to TFG – a creation of its own, the new development in northern Mogadishu, and the TFG’s call for foreign troops, the outcome of the conference is anyone’s guess! One thing is clear however. Courts are nervous of any foreign troops deployed under auspices of Abdullahi Yussuf. Likewise TFG led by the current leaders will not move into the capital naked and unprotected. TFG is asking a military muscle worthy of national government. Any workable initiative has to accommodate both concerns. The trap is in as the differences btw the two are irreconcilable. Somali experts such as Dr. Warmooge and Dr. Wax-ma-yaqaan think that Somali conflict is in the crossroads. If handled this one with the care it deserves this time around, there is a chance to end the prolonged conflict that’s been raging in the southern Somalia more than a decade now. Waxa-la-yiri News Desk, Wax ma yaqaan, war moogaa ka liita.
  11. Stoic, so you are a news junkie huh? Didn't know that buddy The name of the game is read both sides of the "fill the blanks". If the news is about American politics then it is prudent to read both conservative and liberal take on the issue at hand. That way you can get past the spin doctors and get informed.
  12. That's very nice of you giving me some pointers and wishing me all the best. I'm as cool as any1 can be Wildy. No stress...none! One thing that can improve the cyber discussion though is if you disagree with what's been said on any subject just say so without making a scene. And if u do make a scene well then just get a thick skin and get ready for a reality check. Case closed

    INDECISION

Go for it buddy. As others have already pointed out there is no such thing as "secure job". Consider this move as a career change! A one that is "a perfect role" for you. It is very important that you like what you do for a living. It seems to me that this will be the case with the new job. Take a calculated risk sxb. If I were in ur shoes I would accept the new offer. Good luck!
  14. ^You mean kill the senile old fart and run all the way to the bank ala gold-digger style . That’s some plan! Amelia Amelia what is this? Common dudette! You know too well that each and every cyber nick in this forum has an online persona. With over 2300 posts to your credit, your cyber persona lay bare for all to see. Oh yes! I can’t help but keep noticing a trend here . To call a spade spade is not a childish. The Chinese have a saying that goes like this…to call things by their right name is half of wisdom. I tell ya what is childish. What is childish is to hear/read “women without cooking skills have shortcomings†and go ballistic. What you should have done is say I disagree and here is why. The doc-ka-yeer friends that showed up when I made that comment should have done the same. Wildy awoowe any success with those “lower in the food chain†skipping your naval and hitting downtown all the way! Talk about trashy drama queens! Keep projecting these cyber images and rest assured the oldies will keep calling urs what it really is – TRASH. No disgracing about that. Btw when are you gonna stop using “we are young†line. You are either adult or you are not. Ahem I’m oldy too! Kids should behave around me Have a nice wkend.
  15. It is very simple Amelia. I'm not bragging and certainly not on any body's expenses. Likewise there is no personal insults in my remarks at least the way I see it. You see I stand accused of all sorts of mishaps and these accusations stem from airing mere cyber opinion. I happened to take the stand that in the family biz least of all our kind of family environment the cooking biz is handled by the lady of the house. I made the comments that if the mother the wife the manager of the house is incompetent in performing some of the essential choirs in the house, she has a shortcoming. Same can be said about the husband. I readily admitted that I'm guilt of this shortcoming. I stand by that comment. The fact that I simply made such comment aroused all sort of emotional tantarums in some segment of women folk. This is not the first time this happened. It was too much for them to exercise restraint and all the hell broke loose. Doesn't bother me really but I felt their forum inputs required a response from me. Now it is my view that the way they handled themselves fit the description I saw fit to give them. I have been careful to indicate that theirs is a cyber phenomena not personal. Let's review one by one shall we: 1. Control freak: you and certainly wildy have shown a tendency to show your pet peeves. You like to control men in a scores. So that makes you cyber control freak No? 2. Drama Queens: you gals put a helluva show esoecially wildy in the way of picking on men Somali men in particular an exagerate their shortcomings. You pke fun at them. If some one disagrees ur take on things you literally eat them alive. All this in the cyber forum. You are full of drama hablo. 3. Tomboys: my fav wildy the tough cookie that crambles before she gets handled is case in point. She doesn't come across the screen as some1 wh have feminine qualities. She enjoys projecting the very image you mistake for insult. Let's think straight here plz. All in all, wildy implied that I'm neglecting my manly duties and somehow hunting lil petites here on the SOL. May be she meant picking on them and engaging in arguments. Needless to say the impression is made that I'm doing something inappropriate. I guess if fairness runs in ur blood qallanjo one someone of my stature (yes not in ur circles but other circles) gets pointed a finger at his direction like that one is obliged to set the record straight No?. What you think Amelia. The irony is what you mistake for bragging and show off in my book is doing xamaali for someone just like me for the sake of survival. I prefer to own my own biz. The point I was trying to make there is that I'm not spending quality time on this gibberish. I come to the forum during the working hours. All clear Now gather around cuz Cafis is in the air. Don't take it personally fellaz.
  16. Perfect. Doodu haday xubin la qabto leedahay. Awoowe waqtigu waa igu yaryahay oo 15 minidh baa ka hadhay kolkaan caraabi jiray. Bal aan soo dhaweeyo hawsha oo aan ku koobo "E-factor" ee bal golaha u sheeg waxa aad ka qabto qodobka ah: 1. Ethiopia gacan iyo addinba waxay kula jidhaa arimaha murugsan ee Soomaaliya. Kuwa hada la jabiyay iyo dagaalka ay oogeen gacn bay ku lahayd. Haatana dib in ay ka soo habeyso oo inta hubayso oo dib u soo abaabusho yay u badan tahay. 2. Ma waxaad leedahay mowqifka is beddelay iyo ragga hada majaraha u haya Maxkamadaha aawadood bay uga gaabsanaysaa oo taageero hiil iyo hooba ah siin meyso dagaal-oogayaasha? Bi'ithnilaah berritoole ubaxnimada baan soo laaban doonaa.
  17. Suldaan, Right on. You have a point there sxb. Waliba aan kuugu daree Somalida waxay tiraahdaa "Nin xil qaaday, eedna qaad". Alle-uBaahane, Boowe isku mowqif baynu nahay. Ilaa hadda xaga iyo xageer iyo dhankan iyo dhankoo intaba ku dayay walina ma garan waxa aad qoonsatay. Ma dood baad ka qabtaa Ethiopia inay afarta addimood iyo waxii waheliya kula jidho arrimaha Somali oo dee sidoodaba issaga murugsan? May? Haa? Jawaabtaadu maxay tahay? Hadday haa tahay oo aad ila aragto munaafaqada iyo mid habee laban gawrac, kan gacan qabo kolkuu liito oo hiil iyo hooba sii walaalkiina qudha ka jar aqalkana ka gub, mindiyaha isugu dhiib, dusha ka eego, gogoshii laysugu keenaba addigu ka odayee! intaas ah shido ah yaa amxaarku nagu hayaa! Innaga yaa sidaa ogolaaney e issagu nama maquunin. Boowe hadalkeygu waxuu ahaa inaan intaa akhyaarta golaha oo dee aan ugu weynaha awoowena u ahay tusaaleeyo. Waxaan ka abaaray nimanka wiil hoogyada ah maantana jabay waxa suuro ah in dib loo soo hubeeyo oo ay bartoodii ka miisaan oo sidda ayaan darrada Somali haysata ay ku sii socoto. Warkeygu nuxurkiisu intaa buu ahaa. Fahamtu yaa qasaara? Haddii dooduu tahay Maya, dee fadlan waa ina rag xaajadiiye dooda na qaniinsii oo bal wax na tusaalee sxb.
  18. ^Here he comes again That is one possible reason. The other reason could be that what old Baashi calls cyber "drama queens" have let their emotional restraint run amok. Different viewpoint beyond their narrow-minded world outlook which happened to be the case with the old geezer is simply unacceptable. Amelia is cut-above the rest of the frustrated mob. Her friends kinda lost it to the point where instructions of what to read and not to read have been posted. Talk about self-restraint Wildy are you by any chance pulling the age card on me huh? True true that and I admit I’m oldy (how many times should I do this I wonder). What you don’t know baby child is this forum is not for the underage toddlers. This one is for adults girly girl. Ah! How do I find time for this sort of exchanges? A husband, dad, responsible civil servant, a bread winner, a man with ambition surely don’t have time for this gibberish stuff least of all with self-declared toddler in her twenties! True dat again! The thing is I’m blessed to have a job where the deliverables constitute monthly product sometimes weekly. Alhamdulilaah I don’t have to look over my shoulders in order to surf the web. I surf while I’m at office. Rarely do I log from home madam. Envy me now! Now who picks on who? I’m married with kids and def I’m not interested. Or that is not what you meant. If discussion with my fellow Somalis of all ages is where you’v been aiming at your sorry posts then no more comment on that score other than what I’ve already said in the above paragraph. C’mon wildy you must be a lion in the cyber jungle I thought and look at ya now qasaaro. After all the time you have been grooming yourself as a helluva nail you have fallen too short a ah way too short from the wildy mark. Dang! Xiinoow, As I u can see I’m bit defensive. The target is for another more important audience (hi honey). She’s been reading ya know
  19. Qasaaro fowqal qasaaro Awoowe if you have specific objections which Waxa-la-Yiri haven't addressed raise it please. Our talking-head figures and Somali conflict experts, the best spinners one can find out there (for free mind you), will weigh in. This is all we do buddy and we do it pretty well and with style and class. FYI it is a matter of principle in this business to gather (subjectively) all the rumors, internet xaafado renditions on political events, white-noises inside and outside biibitooyinka, dizzying convo around the dark and smoke filled marfishs, and war-iyo-wacaale that come through the long distance calls. You would think it is that simple. Nop! The process is very complicated. After tedious content collection, we filter the junk through one helluva bug screen (clan blind ) called band pass in some circles. We then use our state of the art optical instruments (color blind) to look through the final product. Our journalism is "another day, another principle" kind of khabar. We are the only journalists that pride themselves letting their emotional restraint relaxed. We called as "we" see it from a distance thousand miles away from ground zero. We look the evnts as they happen and we don't give all sides equal and fair audience to their side of the story. We see things from one-dimentional platform. It is less taxing and very economical way of running a business. Now you have been informed of how things go around here we expect you to declare your allegiance to this "noble" organization. You are one of us Mr. Qasaaro. You are not getting paid with all your hardwork. What Waxa-la-Yiri organization is asking of you is simple. Formally join this media mogul or else we will consider suing your behind The only way out of this spider hole you have dug for your sorry behind is to join eNuri establishment and develop the sophistication, pious character, and ability to reason and swallow your pride so you can be in a position to call a spade a spade Now back to the subject at hand. What you are asking is clarity, we think. Very well! we'll try our best my friend. The point we're making here is not about glorifying the powers that are determined to keep Somalia a barn where they confront the shadowy enemies they think are marching toward their neck of the wood. Noooow awoowe. The point is the existence of policies in distance capitals that literally kept the fire of warlords fueled. That's all. E-factor is a factor in Somali politics. You disagree? Be my guest! We root for Islamic courts despite their shortcomings. We think the alternative is unacceptable. We also think the courts have a humongous room for improvement. We have our reasons. Do you want to explore "why" we hold these views or you just want to dish out well ya know what I'm talking about. The shaah is on me sxb.
  20. Waryee Prince rejoice bro for the warlords have been defeated, humiliated, and sent to their masters to get practical direction and useful instruction for the next move of the Maryooleey chess game. I gotta tell ya buddy, ur fixation on the fate of the strongman in Arlaadi territory is uncalled for My cyber fadhi-ku-dirir buddy Meastro Oodweyne, your opinion have been noted. Your overall assessment on the complicated situation down south is a valid one. Your excellent take and shrewd analysis on all the variables in the south eqaution is in general quite accurate. The only shortcoming that I see in your writeup is your take on the US and how it might play its hand in the wake of warlords' defeat. Of course I don't have a crystal ball but my understanding on the whole affairs in our troubled region leads me to believe that Uncle Sam will give in to the IGAD, Arab League, AU, and UN pressure to support the TFG. All these world and regional bodies are on the same page as far as stablizing Somalia is concerned. Some regional entities have vested interest in seeing Somalia getting back on its feet. We'll wait and see I have a hunch that we are in a state of confusion after courts against all odds destroyed all the interests groups' war plans be it foreign ar warlords. My man Alle-U-Baahane magac qurxoone, We've been looking for you buddy. Where have you been. We need ur feeds and all the happenings in Boston. Waxa-la-Yiri crew are in overdrive gear as we speak. Your feeds in beloved but much-abused and neglected Mogadishu is very important to our operations in No-man's land Mundul complex. Call me ASAP. In regards to your post, I gotta tell ya baba you are short in caffiene. The first two bigeys is on me. This is your first treat form the crew. The third cadeys is from ur pocket. Is tank full? Super! Kaftan aside, sxb we are on the same page. The dispatches are not personal opinions but rather raw news wires ala "As it happens" CBC radio program up North in Canada. Look E-factor is there. They have influence on our internal affairs. In my book they have been the sole king makers and warlord sustainers the whole time. I'm really short in time...will catch you later Allah-willing. Will be back 2morrow Insha'Allah. Excuse errors and what not. Don't have time to reread this.
  21. No wildy. I'm 6 feet 210 bound black manly man who has a lovely and lovable qallanjo as a partner in this life and Allah-willing hereafter I'm leading a happy life dear. I am not interested...ya hear me . And no I don't buy the stunt you r trying to pull on SOLers. I don't find drama queens very attractive whether they parade naked on the cyber jungle or put on a freak show on the streets. Yeah I heard ya loud and clear mama...I'm here to stay . Now bite the dust...will ya With that said...it is unbecoming of a gentle man to engage la tirsi exercise with ur likes so I'm out.
