  3. This is it. The devil is in the detail though as they say. Should a national dialogue be held under the gun? Ethiopians soldiers gotta go and go soon.
  4. Right on. The author articulated where we are today. He described the relationship of the power hungry puppets and the Kingmaker in the block. He highlighted the historical hostility of the two neighboring rivals. He pretty much summarized the sorry state we Somali found ourselves in. Granted Ethiopians are victorious for they are pulling the strings. Inna Yussuf and his cabal are greatful and he will try his best to return the "favor" soon. Uncle Sam too is pleased for he now has folks on the ground doing the dirty job of apprehending "terrorists". All these are facts. However what the author didn't do is articulate the way forward. What the hell we Somalis should do. Does he have any new ideas. He seems to be hurt. He seems to be humiliated by the recent events. There are many ideas floating around in this site. Some are insisting on death or dignity ala Ali Dhuuxi's or was it Salaan Carabeey Hadaad dhimato geeridu marbay nolosha dhaantaaye, Dhashaadeey sugtaa xaajadaad dhowrataa abid e,... If he is reading this post I would like to hear from him on this subject. Where does he stand on this one? Sometimes you have to pretend you agree with the other side in order to get where you want. I for one think supporting the TFG with conditions is the way to go. As I understand Inna Yussuf has already ruled out negotiating with UIC leadership. Still I would like to see Somalis support this third grade politicians! Do you want to get Ethios outta country? Do I hear yes? Well, how? I really doubt that AK47 and technicals stand a chance in the face of GPS surviallance, Gun ships, and superior American war machine. Insurgency is just a suicide of sort. Instead give the TFG the minimum support: security arrangement it can live with. Absence of insurgency, the role of Ethiopia as a security gaurantor will evaporate overnight. That will be a paradigm shift in terms of the relationship of the puppet government and its backer. Couple that with real and meaningful settlement on core Somali issues that kept us fussing and fighting on 17 years. With three conditions, the proposed reconciliation effort will hopefully succeed. 1. No foreign military in Somali soil. 2. Process must be owned by Somalis. 3. The meeting must be held in Mogadishu. If TFG refuses to take this generous offer then may Allah help us all.
  5. ^You just don't get it. Sophist is right on the money. Two sides of the same coin that's what they all are. UIC was the only independent and homegrown movement we ever had. They stood up to powerful interest group in the region and they paid their stand dearly. Riyale has to play it safe cuz he is competing against a loyal puppet. And if he doesn't play the game he will be a toast politicaly. Allow ma iri
  6. AL is the only friend Somalia has now. Too bad they don't have the muscle to stand up to Uncle Sam. Somalis don't just get it. Work with Egyptians people! they got few swings left in them, I dare say. But then again Inna Yussuf got what he wanted and I doubt he will heed the Arab leagues advise now. Too bad just too bad.
  7. No kidding! Inna Booy and Inna Yussuf getting down to the knitty gritty of the nomad politiking! Adduunyo! Whay ya know eh!
  8. Steve has done it again. What a genius! Not only is he technical guy but he is also a revolutionary and an extremely shrewd biz animal. Kudos to him. Check it out

Xiin, brother Liqaye has a point there! Can you refute this fact? Ain't that is truth the whole truth nothing but the truth. Mogadishu pacified -> ICU committed itself untimely and unnecessary war -> ICU Lost the war -> ICU handed back the weapons to clans -> ICU saved Mogadishu from the urban warfare -> ICU didn't extend the same courtesy to Jilib and Kismayo. Xiin what you make of that? What went wrong brother? To defend their cause is something. To justify their tactics is something different al together! Amazing wallahi! I blve you are an honesty nomad and I want to hear from you how you connect the dots I outlined there. Waiting... I don't want hear from other self-styled cyber jihadists.
  10. How do I know? Well look up the founding members of this think tank and make up your mind whether they have any weight in the Bush adminstration today.
  11. Embrace TFG before it is too late. Why? With all its shortcomings, the TFG has the backing of the "world". With money and guns it will be able to line up its fav warlords and enough sub-clans to establish itself before any meaningful challenge can emerge. I don't see anyway out short of full blown civil war. And civil war is not a way out of this mess. I don't want us to end up like Iraq and Afghanistan. A puppet government propped up by outside powers and a sizable segment of the population resisting the sects or the clans alligned with the alien forces. You don't want that kind of mess. No one wins and all Somalis will lose big. Instead embrace them with conditions. Here is my idea. 1. Full amnesty for the Islamists leadership. 2. Reconcilliation meeting in Mogadishu. 3. Revised constitution. 4. National vote to ratify the drafted constitution. 4. Clear succession plan (with defined date). In the meantime Somalis need to focus on security. With security you can preempt the peace keeping argument. Trust me Ethiopians have served their purpose as far as Uncle Sam is concerned. Soon the UN will insist on their withdrawal and Uncle Sam will support that motion. Add that the political tug of war in the upcoming presedential elections. Dems will critisize the military adventures of the GOP. And GOP will not turn the other cheek for Ethiopia's sake.
  12. Paranoid is the right word here mzee Castro. You are over-reacting my man. Sure Uncle Sam has his own geopolitical interest in the region. Sure the current adminstration with all its messainic inclinations has its own designs for the Muslim world. Fair enough. However remember that clan dynamics in Somalia trumps everthing. Our system if you can call it that is so unstable and unpredictable no think tank can formulate a consistent policy applicable to our politiking other than supporting self-styled secularists. Now the think-tank you cited has been discredited by the elites of this country. They no longer have sway over current adminstration.
  13. My man Xiin, With nice melody, I gotta recite the legendary Waberi lyrics: Aamiinta ducadiyo, Alla bariga mooyee, Arrin kale ma haynee. Aamiinta ducadaa, Aamiinta ducadaa, Aamiinta ducadaaaa, Iigu soo duceeyaa! These lyrics were composed in another era. The playwright was a concerned Somali. The political environment was very tense.
  14. SOL crowd r on it. Investigative reporters in this forum have the goods on this dude. Findings are numerous: 1. Nepostism 2. Age 3. Inexperience Not a resounding verdict by any means. In politics, to bring in ur "team" (ideologues, contributers to ur campaign, volunteers, and what have you) is a given. In Somali politics 4.5 formula dictates power sharing scheme adopted in Nairobi. Diplomatic mission in DC is slotted for Clan A, that of France is for Can B, ...and so on. No surprise here. Pretty much in sync with the spirit of Nairobi deal. Koshin is the symptom not the malaise. Another reconciliation meeting is in order. It should be held inside Somalia proper. Somalis need to revise the drafted constitution now before it is too late. If we don't do that right away we will risk institutionalizing negative tribalism. Meritocracy will soon be anamoly to the system.
  15. YOU. All of you and I mean YOU according to Time magazine have won the prestigious cover page. Put your shades on if you have two balls. TFG 2.0?

TFG 2.0: what would it look like? Cyber roundtable discussion Intro The recent events caught some of us by surprise. The Islamists, a grass root and popular movement that brought a much needed stability, has became another victim of the Bush’s “evil” eradication agenda. Ethiopia has greatly benefited from distorted world view of Neocon as it positioned itself as the new kid of the block – a kid whose assistance in the “war against terror” must be sought. Not only has Ethiopia’s stature in the region as a regional power been enhanced but it has also received military, political, and economical handout for doing herself a favor by preempting the Islamists rise in its block. The Federal Transitional Government, a brainchild of Ethiopia in a bid to prove its secular credentials to Uncle Sam and at the same time eliminate Islamists challenge, served as the facilitator of this mission of finishing off the Islamists. Why would a reconciliation government appointed to spearhead healing the wounds from the bloody civil war would commit such a blunder of first order? Whose interests is TFG serving when it provides a perfect cover for the Ethiopian onslaught against its impressionable youth? TFG is the subject of this discussion. Its president is of great interest! Who is he? What does he want? What does he believe? With his advanced age, his long imprisonment, and his declining health, is he fit the position he holds today? Does he have the respect and standing required from a leader of his position? The men who joined him in the TFG platform share a history characterized by blood path! Can they set aside the quarrel that marred their exclusive club and move the ball forward? TFG is the product of long deliberations of representatives of armed warlords who have bitterly contested the spoils of the civil war. It is said that all Somali clans took part of that deliberation. The conference produced a constitution and a roadmap for peace. Close scrutiny of the document show that negative tribalism is central to the state’s idea of itself. The document envisages Federalism to serve as oil that lubricates tribal machinery to minimize inevitable friction that the system will experience. It bets all its worth on 4.5 formula as the basis of power-sharing scheme! If it survives from internal squabbles and clannish contests, are the principles in which it was founded sound enough to be used as a blueprint for reconciliation and healing process? Forward the clock. Somalia is in a critical stage today. There will be political fallout from the Ethiopian aggression. That being the case, what will become of TFG? If the latest news is anything to go by, TFG will enter Benadir in the coming two days. UIC’s hasty retreat left a power vacuum. That vacuum is now filled by marauding clannish militia harassing the city residents in search of loot. How will TFG manage to deal with fragmented clans armed to the teeth and prevent complete anarchy in a city millions of Somalis call home? Is there a room for TFG Revision 2.0 ? Can the top brass of TFG manage its field commanders the likes of Hiiraale, Dhere, and Qeybdiid without Ethiopians serving as the mediator? What will Somalia led by these ruthless politicians look like? When will these criminals face justice? At this juncture, does peace and stability trump everything else? The clock is ticking for TFG! Does it have the plan to save country from descending into complete anarchy?
  18. Libaax, No worries buddy. Tell my dumaashi tomorrow is another day. Down yes, but not out. UIC hardcore has the Lower Juba jungle and the many natural ports along its long shores. Perfcet for resistance movement. Funny the same thing happened to me at work. My boss is heading back to the states and as a result I had to submit several deliverables for his signature before his departure. I couldn't focus on task at hand. Analytical beast I am, I keep on analyzing the situation. Kinda distracting me! Amin to the dua yaa akhi. Mark my word TFG will commit a suicide. With friends like Ethios, the clock ticks for TFG. SW, My man you are not only eloquent analyst but you are also a wiseman. I'm speechless! I never for the life in me thought that Benadir will fall and fall the way it did. I was wrong. Now each and every clan is armed to the teeth the onus is on the TFG and its coalition of convienance to handle the situation with care and prudence. As for my advice to UIC, well I would tell them: DON'T YOU QUIT. Keep a low profile for now and watch TFG commit a hasty suicide and let the populace appreciate how green was the UIC valley. Make your stand in the Kulbiyow-Badhaadhe-Ras Kambooni bush, a Turki country suited for guerrila war. If and when TFG extends a genuine peace offer take it but reject phantom positions in the TFG during the transitional phase instead demand a grass root reconciliation process coupled with constitutional overhaul and followed by a referandum. Samuria the forum is putting the TFG on the hot seat tonight. I shall open a roundtable discussion on TFG's prospects, challenges that await them, Ethiopian factor, Islamists unifying plotical platform, and what have. We will start with the TFG's recent history, its legitimacy, its dependence on Ethiopians, and its ability to capitalize the situation Ethiopians created for them. It will be a hardball devoid of emotions and childish rant. We will dig deep, expose the ugly realities of the Somali politiking. I'm short of time now. Still I shall open the floor with brief introduction in few minutes so share your two cents... Later.
  19. North, gimme till the end of the day. We'll examine the situation and see what options do we have to avoid a complete anarchy. Caano Geel, sit down, scratch your rasta hair and gimme your take on the way forward. Ngonge, we are on the same page so far. All eyes are on TFG. Ethiopia and its Western backers have now utilized TFG to weaken and almost get rid off the Islamists, what will become of TFG. I'm at work now and hence short in time. Tonight Insha'Allah we will put the TFG under the microscope ala qalaaya taxtal majhar.
  20. Oh boy! I was right on the money. Where we go from here? Anyone?
