  1. Ladiif, Yes...whenever there is news about kids being kidnaped by sick white grown-up men...and body turns up sexually abused, dead. Or when there is news about some teachers were molesting kids at their care. That makes me sick. This is not "the" place to raise family.
  2. Somalinet, the site: Well the site is not as bad as some of u are making it. Biggest, largest, and most popular site...there is reason for that. Yes there is always room for improvement and yes users are not supposed to be left unchecked. I for one can imagine the dilemma the webmasters are facing...shut the site down cuz some users are not respectful to the rules of the site or are plasphamous and they smear, slander, or use profanity in their post OR find volunters who are willing to moderate these nomad characters who are armed with anonymity and freedom of speech. I suggest that critics should volunteer and give them hand to rectify the problems if u really care about that. Tawqa, Preaching is a noble cause. But preachers should be qualified characters who sees things as they are not as they oughta be...in other words u need to be practical. So nomads are not interested in following the true sunnah and they resort doing things they should not be doing...posting a picture on the net for instance! Do u think equating that to prostitution will help the poster who thinks that she is true to her Islam as u think u are to ur Islam! I think we all have opportunity to advice and preach here in this site...but don't make any assumptions like don't ever assume that I know much about my religion as u do. Be systematic..start with the Kabaa'ir and employ analogies, use examples, illuminate, shed light to the problems and make excuses for us cuz we are ignorant about our religion. Don't provoke...don't pick a mas'alah khilaafiyah...don't accuse...that's not how is done...finally if u have a concern PM to the admin. I find him logical and very understanding.
  3. Shaqsii, I am not sure if I'm fluent enough to translate in a way that conveys the true meaning of the these poems...and even if I try I am sure it will not be as beautifull as the poet composed it in Somali...so I won't try its literal meaning! The gist of the poems I posted though is that: the author (Salaan C.) is expressing a deep sorrow that he is too old to do things he used to do and that he is yearning the presence for his friends in which he implied the age had cought up with them and they left to after-life. The second one he is implying when u hit at certain age u lose most capabilities... The moral of the poem is old folks lack the physical ability and even need help in doing simple basic things...but have the experience and wisdom to insist they know few things in life...and he concludes that he is going to pray Allah cuz that is what he should be doing more instead of advicing the young lad! Corrections are welcomed!

  5. Who is we?...u got...understood what? What is it that u are refering to that I couldn't back up? cornered..how? Why do u feel the need to smear or belittle my comments or find it hard to understand the gist of the post? What i don't understand is a moderator who is 'war-xumo-tashiil'...if u want to be 'quuqle' then got another identity for urself...that way I wouldn't attach any importance to ur sarcasm. Iska dhaaf caraatanka walaal...Moderator-nimada meel ha uga dhicin.
  6. For all of those who are interested in having employement, internship, or co-op position I urge you to come to NSBE convention. This will really help you big time. Note that it costs a lot! http://www.nsbe.org

  8. Oh well...quick to point finger...an expert of twisting words. Recap: I made the case that our oral history should be the most important reference of our ancestory. Then ur sarcastic question comes along in which u inquire whether u should laugh at my comments. Then I tried to clarify things by elaborating my take on the topic. I mentioned Burton and Lewis cuz they are often mentioned in references..that's all no other reason than that...and off u were! Bottom line...let's have little confidence with what we think about our ancestory...that was the message I was trying to convey...and u keep bugging me with stuff i don't understand at all...prof. has been insulted before u said...the only time I know that he was challenged is his latest contraversy lecture so it is prudent to assume that is what u keep reffering to...man I dunno! "Nimanyahow ileyn af laba daan leh baan muranka deynin" tii baad wadaa. Bro this is my last post about this...try to understand it as it is.
  9. What? I thought his lecture was about the civil war...and this thread is about whether our ancestors were Arab or Africans!!!! I got nothing against the prof. but I thought I read somewhere he was hired by the British colonial office in the dark old days when they were our masters! Does mentioning that annoy you or make u laugh... Man! what the hek are u taking about? You are parsing my words and puting together again in a way that fits in ur preoccupation on a different matter that got nothing to do with what I was refering to.
  10. Irrelevent!...after all u were not in refuting mood but...kinda out of topic! What's this got to do with Merchant Scrap lecture topic that Lewis gave...I wonder?
  11. Originally posted by JamaaL-11: quote:Originally posted by Baashi: Arab or African? Before I give my opinion, do we have to rely on what others think/write about us or what our oral history says about us? Think about it! What does ur grandpa/ma think about this issue? I just refuse to take instructions, dubed as knowledge, from colonial spies who were made scholars by powers they've been working like Richard Burton and I. M. Lewis. Shall i laugh or not!And why would you do that? Is that your way of disagreeing nomads who happen to have a different view point than yours? I would rather give credence to my forefathers' side of this story...it has been consistent...and it persisted for generations! My forefathers version (of their history) does not contradict the fact that we are African (native of Africa, the continent) nor does it deny that there is negroid blood in us. There, they said, was an Arab gentleman who we trace our familial lineage (from our fathers side)and Negroid lady (from our mothers side)! We may share two or three features with one group or another but that is beside the point...Cushitic, hemetic...I don't find these words in our vocobulary..nor Oromos know it...who made it up? Now a young upstart, an anthropoligist, a colonial master, who, in theory, beleives we are from Apes and our real cousins are Chimpenzes...come in and start to hypotheses the history of a whole nation...and the virtue of name of the school he went..the whole world starts to make reference of his work. And a bookish like you would laugh at the Nomads who refuse to swallow the so called a "tentavily accepted to explain the facts of our origin" theory crap! keep raeding cuz that's good start to come a full circle to understand what we ought to understand...knowledge is not limilted to the confines of European libraries!
  12. Mooge and Dhuule ...their lyrics are very deep and thought-provoking!...the melody and simplicity of their music is worth listening!...May Allah show me the wisdom of not listening to them...Amen.

    Where?

Muraad, U are absolutely right that the late dictator used to send bulgers...the reason being that it was a remote area plus wanted to rehabilte them e.g to teach fishing skills...but I heard it back-fired cuz they went straight to Kudhaa, nearby Bajun village, and keep doing things they like the most...stealing, raping..etc. But that's beside the point, there are dozen island along the coast between Kismayo and Kudhaa. From distance, they are green like humongous tree in the sea...but up close it is a habitable beauty!...white sand beaches, that looks like silver-lining, around it. It is just about one mile from the shore...that is something! Don't make assumptions based on he said/she said type info. I've seen it and it is very beautifull place...may Allah supplement that natural beauty with peace and harmony between its future habitants. Amin
  14. Yacqoub, I graduated from UMN with Engineering degree. I thought with that little piece of paper and high GPA will be the key of the employement..wrong! I find that out the hard way. True u need to have that certified skills and what not..but what u need is more than that unless there is shortage of ur area of expertise in the market...u have to learn how to cut corners to get ur foot in the door. This is what I find out...it helps if u have community work, if u boost ur communication skills (accent is ok..but better have good written and verbal skills), if u can legitimetly claim some leadership experience, if u provide when asked good refrerences expecially those with credentials e.g former managers/supervisors, professors, community leaders..generally those pple who know u pretty well to describe ur abilities with some degree of credency in their talk. Multible resumes comes handy too..targeted resume as they are called. Seek to get involved campus activities e.g do little voluntering job if u get the chance. One thing that u ought to have is some kind of internship or Co-op experience...that really helps big time. Finally learn how to do networking...enroll profesional assoc., one way of doing that is to get involved in mentorship programs if ur school offers that. Finally read interview books..it helped me. In recession things get tough and no matter what u do u bound to fail but not always...persistence pays..above all u have to know ur major to knock them off in this 3-hour second round interviews...unlike HR pple..these dudes know what they do for living and can get u if are not prepared. Good luck Yacqoub

    Where?

I will be living, Allah-willing, with my family, in peace, on an island South from Kismayo, Lower Juba and Northwest from Juula and Jawaala...man watta natural beauty! And the the heat of the Summer..I will be going to my cabin at the remote area of the mighty Juba river...its banks! Where no nomad set foot before..so I can claim it my own. My hope is that in that future date I will not have to rely on my clan for the security of my family and wealth!..Any nomad who try to mess with me or my family...he won't dare to do so not cuz of the might of my clan or the revenge they exact for me but the swift action of the POLICE. In the mean time I shall fight to bring about that dream into reality...by doing what...that I don't know...there are different ways of fighting! what is this...I guess it is one of these day-dreaming thing that I usually got each time I realize that in America it is very very very hard to get ahead!..whenever some1 says that I should be grateful that I have a nice job I tell them that I couldn't buy my own house cuz of the interest...the system is antithesis of my faith...am succeeding in the eyes of others but not really...just getting by...I know I can make it big time back home...the only place that u can own one thousand acres...all am asking is to get us peace and a working system ..Islamic state...the real one! PLZEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
  16. Let me be the first to come out and say it loud that I'm a secret cyber admirer. I admire: Ameenah, Barwaaqo, and Cushitic_cute for their common sense and persuasive approach on topics discussed. I find them as mature, agreeable characters on the screen. Taqwa, Mujaahid, and Buubto of thier firm conviction in Islam and thier willingness to share with thier knowledge and educate us all. Moderators and Admins. for their time and patience in managing nomads. Wildcat, Mahadi, and Farah for thier eloguence and articulation. They sure can write English like no nomad I know. It should be noted that I am a new addition to the SOL and I know there are so may fine nomads that I admire here but thier names are dancing in my head...especially nomads with sense of humor!
  17. Thanks for sharing that Wadani. I find these kinda posts very informative. Thank u again.
  18. Tamina, Lucky u! Dr. Jamal Badawi is very knowlegable Islamic scholar...plz tell us if audio clips from conf. will be posted on the net.
  19. Jaaluut, Jamal Abdinasir and Sakhawadiin used to be rivals! We beat them in Kedis @ Markazu Thaqafi (Egyptian library) opposite to the Hotel Juba..remember? I was one of the nine students representing Sakhawadiin. We beat them in basketball games and we were the champs!..don't denied it. Rock's chick, I wouldn't mind if u were Bartamaha or Yusuf-al-kowneyn or Allaahida but Sh Hassan Barsame..nuh!

  23. To put sundays unfortunate event in Las-Anod in prespective, here is an article that appeared Addis Tribune by David Shinn. David, a former U.S. Ambasador to Ethiopia, wrote a long article titled 'The little country that could' in it he said that in order Somaliland to advance its dream for statehood it has to deal with several problems...one of the them, he said, is "the Puntland problem" : **********EDITED********. One thing we should all notice about this event is its timing! Col. Riyale, the SL president, has been campaining on the unity platform..that is..he can bring together *************EDITIED**********..once that is achieved the Puntland problem is decidedly solved...an important milestone for SL. On the other hand, Col. Abdullahi Yussuf, the PL president, is in tight spot. He has internal opposition. He has signed a ceasefire treaty in Eldoret. He has to conform with Ethiopian blueprint and he has to show the world he is the formidable leader of*************EDITED******...thus it is no wonder Col. Riyale's visit to Sool is a direct threat to his standing. In short, it comes down to tribal warfare...every stupid political move they both make is justified by clan politics. Too long?..I know! It is against the rules of Somalia Online to discuss Somali qabiils or even mention their name. It just brings all kinds of characters out here and before you know it, this thread is a hot spot for clan bashing and qabyaalad. Administrator
  24. LST, Land-locked Ethio may entertain the idea because they are in need of sea port so much that they are making it national security issue at the expense of other national priorities. I'm ofended by the idea. Having hand in the Somalia's civil war, occupying Ogaden illegaly, and lying about facts about Al-itahaad to boost its relative importance to the West, Ethiopia is in a position to have a say about our future government. We don't even have a unified voice that can speak on our behave. It is so sad these Xabashi are acting as a grand architect and indispensible power in horn of Africa. Look at us! What's wrong with the warlords? Don't they even see these grand sheme? That is it! I get that off my chest!..feel better. Oh! wanna say the confederation thing is not a new foreign import to this region, the Soviet block tried in vain! Here is excerpt from Wilson center archives: '...One is on the 16 March 1977 Cuban-Yemen effort at creating a Marxist-Leninist confederation consisting of Ethiopia, Somalia, and South Yemen. In his meeting with Honecker the following month, Castro provides a detailed report about the attitudes of the two leaders, Mengistu and Barre, toward the proposal. Mengistu is referred to in glowing terms while Barre is described as a chauvinist whose principal idea is nationalism, not socialism. The report vividly shows Castro trapped as a victim of his own ideology. Having erroneously assumed an absolute connection between perceived global trends--depicting socialism as the world's dynamic force--and the local situation in the Horn, he had expected a successful outcome to his efforts. His sharp disappointment in Barre's personality, on which the report dwells, should have been subordinated to the more crucial realization that national and ethnic rivalries peculiar to the region had doomed the confederation from the outset. Also in this document, the Cuban leader, perhaps for the first time, forcefully raised the impending dilemma facing the Soviet bloc in the Horn of Africa. He tells Honecker, "I see a great danger . . . if the socialist countries help Ethiopia, they will lose Siad Barre's friendship. If they don't, the Ethiopian revolution will founder." Faced with an either/or situation within six-eight months, Moscow bet on Ethiopia at the risk of irretrievably losing Somalia. '
