Somali of course! Just in case you've never heard of Garre, Jiido, Dabare, and Tunni you are not alone. These communities live the most fertile land of Somali penisula - lower Shabela and the upper Juba river. Jiido dominate in the area of the west of Qoryooleey such as Mombasa yareey, Uraanuroow, buulo warbo and Aalan fuuto. Whereas Dabare live in the area of Buulo mareer, Kuntowaareey, arbow heeroo, up to Mundul and the are where Shabele river leaves its rich soil before it disappears. Garre are nomadic people they roam the area between Aalan fuuto to Diinsoor to the Siidaamo Ethiopia. If you don't speak Af Maay you would be hard presed to understand them. The common language in their neck of the wood is Af Maay. I hope this helps!

I haven’t read this book yet so I can’t say much about its content. However, I welcome the idea of Somalis examining their own history. The age of relying on Orientalists or Al-Mustashriqiin for writing about, examining, and interpreting Somali history will soon be over insha’Allah. This book will add to the growing list of books on Inna Abdulle Hassan authored by Somalis. Dr. Yassin Osman Kenadiid had written (in Italian) a devastating book about the “Sayid†Mohamed. He focused the personality and the mishaps of the leader of the “Daraawishtaâ€. Unquestionably, the Kenadiid’s book was extreme in his critical, selective, and somewhat biased approach in examining that era. On the other side of the spectrum, Aw Jamac Omar had written (in Somali) a sympathetic and uncritical book on the “Sayidka†elevating him to unparalleled status and he laid the blame at the doors of Northwest clans, Kenadiid’s Hobyo Sultanate and Northeast “kingdom†led by Boqor Osman. Siyad Barre’s government promoted Aw Jamac’s biased account of Somali history at that period mass-producing the copies of the book for him for free while banning the Kenadiid’s account through Wasaarada awqaafta, a government ministry that used to act as literary watchdog to ensure the military junta’s monopoly over information historical or otherwise. I’m glad that a new era has downed for Somalis. Now we can read, examine the primary sources the authors used, and make our own conclusions without government telling us what we ought to be reading and what conclusion we should be making by reading them. These books add the diversity of opinion and they will undoubtedly challenge historians to be scholarly in their research so that their claims can have legs to stand. Btw, I don’t like the title he chose for this book

SW, As much as I would love to see the rightful owners of Kismayo back to their homes, I have the feeling that it would be very very very difficult for them to beat the coalition of forces they are up against. If you have ever been there, the coalition forces plus Al-Itixad camps have strategic and logistical advantages over the Morgan and locals camp. Look at the geography wise how these coalition forces are positioned: Ras Kamponi, Kismayo, and Jilib. In effect, Morgan with the local militia are inside a triangle not only that the mobility factor has a huge psychological effect on the battles. Morgan camp are constrained by Kenya border on one side, Ras Kamponi, Kulbiyo, Badhaadhe (Al-Itixad can move there at will) from the Southeastern tip of the of Lower Juba, All the roads that leave Kismayo to the interior where Morgan is at are controled by Barre and his militia, and the finaly the bypass road from Jilib thru xagar to Afmadow is the very road that Indha Cadde, Galaal, Xassan Uweys militia used to give reinforcement to Barre Hiiraale. Logistically, Morgan can not get fuel, medicine, and other essential logistics necessary to win a battle. The injured have no hospital to go...it is disaster wallahi...Barre knew excatly the blunders of Morgan that is why he refused to stay in Kismayo to deny Morgan any chance to mobolize a succesful campaign. Kaaga darane Abdullahi Yusuf is not expected to help out reer Kismayo. Some of Puntland's soldiers have not been paid. He is using all the resources he could get for his own political agenda namely a bid for the presidency. Miracles do happen and I sure wish that is the case but in my poor analysis I don't see any winning plan for Morgan. Another plunder! guess who is paying the price

Shoobaro, Sxb don't be too hard on urself. Newly weds suffering morning sick can be pain in the neck if u don't know all the tricks that could come handy. Send her away if u have that option. She gets a vacation and she gets to see her parents/relatives as well. It works! If you are not that lucky here is what you do. Get pre-packaged food, soup, quakers, vegetables, fruits, load of juice of all kinds, buscuits, cookies, and cookbook. Get something on the table for her like 1 apple, 1 banana, borokoli, bowl of noodles, and cup of juice. Tell her that it is good for the baby and you read it from book such and such . After one week, you will be excused take it from me...and you might hear her talking on the phone with her friends bragging... It will pass in about a month BTW, Costco or Sam's club is where you find the pre-packaged food in a bargain.

Morgan attacked by Al-Itixad Millitias...Twist in Kismayu
Baashi replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Al-Itixad taking part the clannish civil war is just beyond me wallahi! What in the blue earth are they doing in Dhoobley along the ranks of the milita of Yuusuf Indhacadde, Col. Barre Hiiraale, Muuse Suudi, and General Galaal. Whatever happen to the "al qaatil walmaqtuul kulihum fi naar" Since when Col. Hiiraale, Galaal, Indha Cadde become a devout practicing Muslims worthy of Al-Itixad's support. What a plunder! They have given the enemy of Islam and their Somali cohortsa perfect justification to intervene... My heart goes out to all innocent nomads in the area. -
SON OF THE JACKAL SOMALIA- Togane Poem on A/Yusuf..
Baashi replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
I don't know about u WD, but I have my doubts about the Colonel. You see speculating of Abdullahi's political prospects is one thing, being so sure of what the future has in store for Abdullahi is totally different thing altogether. I think Abdullahi will lose. Here is why: for one he has many political enemies in the this new parliament. Most of the folks who have seats in the parliament are rooting for their clans. Clanwise Abdullahi's clan constitutes approx. 1/4 of the total votes available. That is 61. Subtract that from 14 of Gedo votes (that much is certain). He can count on 37 votes. The rest is a toss. Moneywise we know he is not competative. Since some votes will go to the highest bidder, it does not look good there. Coalitions and alliances play big factor. SRRC didn't do well in getting their members for seats so is TNG and Samatabixinta. Here is where clan politics come into play. There are many folks in Nairobi who believe deep down that for Somalia to have future, Mogadishu must be secured. There is also a mindset among amny players that the seat of presidency must be given to Mogadishu clans to address historical grievences that have to do with the power sharing schemes. Ali Mahdi, Abdiqasim, etc had similar support in previous attempst to get the state back on its feets for the hope that they would be able to secure the capital. Considering all this factors mentioned above, I will be surprised if he wins the votes. It is very hard to predict Somali politics anyway; if I were u I wouldn't bet anything on it. War jiraaba cakaaru imaan. -

Many thanks Gaarisa for sharing that with us. I have to share this with the nomads. My father had a way of getting his way with us without resorting to violence. He didn’t have that much of formal education except civil servant training from colonial days. Looking back at my early childhood upbringing, I’m awed by his parenting skills wallahi. He knew what we liked or disliked. Back then; it was customary for the families with meager income to do the shopping for the kids twice a year (the two Islamic holidays or ciid). In our house, each of us would get something in the early morning of the ciid. However, the rest of the year if we want extra fancy stuff and ask him to buy it for us, he would say no most of the time but occasionally he would say yes only if we do such and such. Every Friday my father would wake up late in the morning and he would ask my grandmother which one of us behaved well in that week. She would tell him the truth and say hebel. He would give whoever won the blessing of ayeeyo 7 cents (good enough to buy bajiyo, jallaato, xanjo buufis, caano baraawe etc. at the time). Whoever scores high in his class or finishes jus Qur’an early on before other kids, would get shilling, qallin biire, and surweel luungo. That person would be taken to dalxiiska waamo which is a sort of zoo and restaurant combo at the outskirt of the town plus that person would go with dad to watch the Kismayo soccer tournament (the best thing any kid in Kismayo could wish for). Rewarding kids (promises must be kept once made) and simply denying activities is much more effective than punishing.

Run-off Election between Addow and Abdulahi Yusuf
Baashi replied to Libaax-Sankataabte's topic in Politics
Otali, Your last post kinda got my attention! I didn't know who to vote for first. Then I read your first post and it seemed Addow was the man. Then the sage, Mr. Samurai Warior, reminded us who we should vote. SW put their credentials on the table. I realized that one is wimpy and the other is battle hardened old warior. I was torn apart between the soft-spoken, xamaraawi, and dovish Addow and the articulate, strong, contraversial, and opinionated leader of Puntland. I was considering of not voting at all. Your last post persuaded me to change my decision. I realized that I have a compelling interest in this vote. The idea of getting our real estate back without bloodshed is very appealing to me. Likewise sitting with secessionists (relax fellas ) to iron out the conditions that will brought them back to the union is equally important. Addow seems to have a shot in accomplishing both tasks for obvious reasons. Hmmm! I think I made up my mind! I'm persuaded. I'm gonna vote for the man who can deliver the goods. Addow! that is it. I'm ready now to vote. What? I don't even have a vote to cast...dang! Well I changed my mind now. What to do? How about cheering in the cyber worl and looking out for the best guy! Dang! I'm too old to stoop that low -
