What if you get a second job! wouldn’t that help you a bit? Do you have ambition (any)? Ever wondered what you could have been? Do u wanna own your own house or start your own business? Do u think u can own your own house? Do u think you can turn around your financial situation? Can you list all the things u think would hinder realizing your dreams? Can u overcome these obstacles?

Fishy Morality 2/26/2005 - Humor Education - Article Ref: IC0502-2625 Number of comments: 50 By: Mullah Nasrudin IslamiCity* - Mullah Nasrudin appears as the whimsical character in a growing tradition of stories dating from at least the thirteenth century. The tales of Nasrudin are sometimes adapted and used as teaching stories not just by the Sufis but also by such diverse and alien organizations as the British Society of the Promotion of Christian Knowledge and the Soviet Government. His stories also appear in psychology textbooks, illuminating the workings of the mind in a way no straightforward explanation can. These traditions use jokes and stories to express certain ideas, allowing one to bypass normal thought patterns. By developing a series of impacts that reinforce certain key ideas, the rational mind is occupied with a surface meaning whilst other concepts are introduced. Thus paradox, unexpectedness, and alternatives to convention are all expressed in the humor of Mullah Nasrudin. ----------------- Fishy Morality Once a renowned philosopher and moralist was traveling through Nasruddin's village and asked Nasruddin where there was a good place to eat. Nasruddin suggested a place and the scholar, hungry for conversation, invited Mullah Nasruddin to join him. Much obliged, Mullah Nasruddin accompanied the scholar to a nearby restaurant, where they asked the waiter about the special of the day. "Fish! Fresh Fish!" replied the waiter. "Bring us two," they requested. A few minutes later, the waiter brought out a large platter with two cooked fish on it, one of which was quite a bit smaller than the other. Without hesitating, Mullah Nasruddin took the larger of the fish and put in on his plate. The scholar, giving Mullah Nasruddin a look of intense disbelief, proceed to tell him that what he did was not only blatantly selfish, but that it violated the principles of almost every known moral, religious, and ethical system. Mullah Nasruddin calmly listened to the philosopher's extempore lecture patiently, and when he had finally exhausted his resources, Mullah Nasruddin said, "Well, Sir, what would you have done?" "I, being a conscientious human, would have taken the smaller fish for myself." "And here you are," Mullah Nasruddin said, and placed the smaller fish on the gentleman's plate. --------------------------- It is said, there are as many interpretations to Nasrudin's stories as stars in the sky. If you would like to share your interpretation of this story please do so. Click Here to read interpretations.

1. In a few weeks, cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls. If you do not want to receive sales calls from telemarketers, call this number from your cell phone 888-382-1222. It is the national Do Not Call list. It blocks your number for 5 years. If for some reason it does not work for your cell phone, you can visit Do Not Call List if you want to register a telephone other than your cell phone or any landline telephone you wanted to be blocked. Hopefully you find this useful. 2. Google has implemented a new feature allowing a phone number to be used to identify the number’s holder and their home address. The new feature works like this: the phone number is entered into the search bar. Results for the search include the name of the phone number holder, their address and a map to their house via a MapQuest link. If a child, or anyone gives out your phone number, someone can actually look-up your address and find directions to your home. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming. In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to www.google.com. Type your phone number, including area code, in the search bar and hit enter. If you want to block Google from divulging your private information, simply click on the telephone icon next to your phone number and fill in the form. If your number is unlisted, you may not be listed in the google directory. Removal takes 48 hours.

Misunderstanding is the culprit here yes? Loved the simplicity of the piece, the correct portrayal of the two worlds, the honesty of the two sides, the overall message, and the inescapable truth it conveys. Articulate, thoughtful, observant, creative, and reasonable nomad, that you are saaxiib. Four thumps up brother.

Wa caleykuma Salaam, Many thanks Caaqil. I took the time and read the piece. What the Somalis are saying in these interviews is very revealing. I can relate to some of the frustrations expressed in this paper by the interviewees! Even though they seem to think of themselves as victims (sentiment I don’t share), it’s true that Somalis all over face dilemma after dilemma. Better living standard, opportunities, and material abundance sometimes go hand in hand with expectation that Somalis should assimilate and submit to the system. Somehow, we seem to want to have both ways. We seem to be willing to get the western shores by any means necessary and yet when we got there we seem to expect that the system to bend to our liking. I think today some of us have the choice to leave and go back home. That being said, some of the grievances and frustrations aired by the Somalis in the piece are genuine one. Take a minute and read: I am attending a Norwegian course. In my country, we can pray whenever we want to. That is what I call the freedom of belief. But not in Norway. I think it is difficult to accept the fact that I cannot pray during the course. To pray is half of my life! I heard that there is freedom of belief in Norway, but that is not true. This is very hard for me, so I am considering quitting the course. I get 5,000 Norwegian kroner if I complete the course, but if I must choose between praying and 5,000 kroner, I will choose to pray. (Somali woman in her 30s). The politics they have conducted against Somalis has had the form of ready-made solutions. Somalis have never been included in planning these solutions. Somalis feel that Somalis as a group are suppressed by the state. I am a Somali resource person, and I also feel humiliated by the fact that when Norwegian authorities seek advice from a Somali person, they choose persons who are critical to Somalis. I think these persons spread lies about the Somali people, out of an interest in being accepted by the Norwegian system. They have suffered under an undemocratic state in Somalia [the dictatorship under Siad Barre], and thus think they must be strict with Somalis. But they struggle with their identity, as they distance themselves from their own. My position is to give constructive criticism, by not using labels that stigmatise other Somalis (male Somali in his 30s). I have experienced it very stressful to meet all the different authorities. Once I was falsely suspected by the police in a case were some Somalis fought in the street. My meeting with the social welfare office was also a disappointment. I had expected to have a much higher standard of living when coming to Norway than what I in fact had, and I felt humiliated by the strict way I was met when I was trying to increase the size of my grant [which is given only once to all refugees in Norway] for buying furniture, clothing etc. (Somali male in his 40s) In Somalia, the war is the problem. Here in Norway, we are free from war, but then it is difficult to find employment. In Somalia, there are also many who are unemployed, but they can do other things instead. There no one thinks that other people hinder them from getting a job, but here they experience discrimination. Here, eighty percent of Somalis do not have a job. Then there must be factors other than competition that hinder them in having a job. The media writes that Somalis are so and so. An employer will notice this and will exclude Somalis when he is hiring new people. If refugees do not have a job they become a burden to the society. But if they have a job they become a resource. It is important to be a good example for others (male Somali in his 40s). I wonder how you raise your kids here in Norway, alone, without relatives who help you, and when someone hassles your kids, what do you do then? At school one of the other kids hit my child. I wanted to hit this kid back, but I have learned that you do not do that here. But I wanted to take revenge. When I use all my time and effort on my children, and then somebody else hits them, what shall I do then? (Somali female in her 30s). I try to help them understand the system. The family has heard rumours about kindergarten which are not in accordance with reality. When their little boy got sick, the parents took him to the doctor in order to get a confirmation of the child being so sick that the mother could not participate in the Norwegian course. The doctor, however, thinks the child is healthy enough to go to the kindergarten, so that the mother has no reason to stay at home. The family has a ‘hidden agenda’: keeping the cash-for-care benefit [a benefit for those who stay at home with the children instead of sending them to the kindergarten]. The family argues like this: The child has a good time with its mother. It is important that mother stays at home and makes food for the family. One creates unnecessary chaos when the mother is out 8 hours daily. Mother is not used to this. The system is brutal. Norwegians do not understand anything about family life etc. The family is thus in collision with Norwegian authorities, which wants the children to go to kindergarten in order to learn Norwegian etc. and wants the women to enter the labour market, in order to achieve integration and equality between man and woman. (Somali male in his 50s) I do not like being asked why I do not feel that I am a Norwegian, and then after that I hear somebody else say that I am a foreigner. No matter what choice I make it is not accepted. I try to adapt, but even so, I am viewed as a foreigner, because I do not have blond hair, and my skin is not light-coloured (Somali female in her 20s). Yes, you are reminded of this constantly. Where are you from? People always ask. My daughter was asked in the kindergarten where do you come from? She said the name of the city in Norway where she was born. But now she says “I am from Somalia, because my skin is brown†(Somali female in her 20s).

Xiin, suspicion alone is not good enough...u kno that! What we need is some sort of evidence that is presentable to the courts. Despite the financial muscle behind these corporate giants, Aaron Brown and CBS 60 minutes magazine news will gladly grant us sympathetic ear not to mention the environmental advocacy groups such as Sierra club Go get it buddy! got me one company name that you are absolutely sure that it’d taken part of this heinous crime. Once the courts serve the subpoena the names of the warlords will be out in no time.
-
^^Stoic, there are raving feminists out to get him and they could sure use this info to assassinate his character. I propose we should assist them and hopefully we get some exposure for this environmental catastrophe in return. What say u Xiin, speculation won’t do you any good sxb. What’s been done is done. How about if you guys try to compile the names of warlords, the nations, and the companies that are said to have conspired to do this heinous crime against us.

Why Can't A Man Be More Like a Woman? By Tina Brown Thursday, February 24, 2005; Page C01 Perhaps in the wake of the Larry Summers debacle at Harvard it's time for a study of the missing social gene in men. It's amazing how many executive disasters are caused by the way otherwise smart males crash around in the thicket of interpersonal relations. There were so many blunders of tone in the first Bush term it needed Condi Rice in her Jackie O pearls to go and suck up to wounded European leaders in advance of the presidential visit. By the end of the week Mr. Bush's diplomatic cholesterol will have spiked from having to feast on the foie gras of Old Europe. Social cluelessness was the root of Howell Raines's problems at the New York Times. All his Big Thinks about Times strategy and Flooding the Zone got torpedoed not by Jayson Blair's plagiarism, which he could have survived, but by his mulish refusal to once in a while stroke the working stiffs who toiled in his newsroom. Then there's James B. Stewart's new scorcher about Disney. The glory days of Michael Eisner's rescue of the moribund mouse house have been soured by recurring outbreaks of unchecked masculine pathology. In Disney's case, all the jostling male egos seem to have killed each other off. There are more dead bodies at the end than in "Coriolanus." The new study about men should focus on the epidemic of testosterone poisoning in the executive suites of America. As with Raines at the Times, the storm now drenching Summers at Harvard is not really about PC politics. It's an insurrection about his manners. If his pleasingly polite predecessor in the job, Neil Rudenstine, had made some offhand comments about the innate abilities of women in a closed meeting, faculty members would have shrugged it off. The presidency of Harvard has only magnified characteristics Summers was just barely able to get away with in Washington. Young Turk economists in the Treasury Department could handle the cut and thrust of Summers's ongoing seminar with himself, but academics are more sensitive souls. In Tuesday's meeting with several hundred Harvard professors to discuss faculty criticisms of Summers's stewardship, Caroline Hoxby, one of two tenured women in economics, told Summers the ties between scholars, their mentors and students is a "great shimmering web." "Every time, Mr. President, you show a lack of respect for a faculty member's intellectual expertise, you break ties in our web." Poor, preposterously brilliant Larry Summers put his web foot in it all the time. He even made enemies for himself during such tension-free occasions as "Memorial Minutes," the short remembrances at faculty meetings of Harvard colleagues who have passed away. According to Richard Bradley in his new book "Harvard Rules," Summers infuriated everyone there by "closing his eyes and drumming his fingers -- as if honoring the dead were keeping him from more important tasks." Hard-charging men are often stunningly oblivious to their own behavior or their own motivations. Summers is notorious at Harvard for leaving meetings that went horribly, thinking they went really well. Al Gore seemed utterly unaware of his own passive aggression when he endorsed Howard Dean without giving his ex-running mate, Joe Lieberman, a heads-up. It was obvious to everyone but Michael Eisner that when he appointed his best friend and rival Mike Ovitz president of Disney it would turn into an antler-clashing contest to the death. One of the side effects of testosterone poisoning seems to be an uncontrollable longing to be properly understood. Throughout the Sturm und Drang he unleashed when he forced out Jeffrey Katzenberg and later fired Ovitz, Eisner was always writing to the two of them about his trampled feelings. He frequently mourned the death of Frank Wells as the only Disney executive he felt knew how to be his real partner, just as Ovitz, at the recent hearings in Delaware, went on about how much he missed and needed Ron Meyer, his old partner and co-founder of Creative Artists Agency, to help him make decisions. Yet both Eisner and Ovitz spent the last 10 years trying to prove to themselves they alone were responsible for their own success. (Eisner may get the Oscar for screwed-up responses when he thought after firing Ovitz that he could still host his 50th birthday party.) Some of the almost touching obliviousness of smart men may trace to the fact that their gender has narrower options than women for role-playing. Samurai or wimp are the only parts they get offered. Women, by contrast, get a crack at boss lady, taskmaster and office power woman along with mistress, wife, geisha, doormat, chatelaine, vixen, goddess, nursemaid and she-devil -- all in the course of one day. A woman playing any of these roles is perfectly in her element; a man playing a role feels unmanned. It's easy for Condi to switch from standing on Putin's corns to gazing into Chancellor Schroeder's eyes and laughing coquettishly at his Germanic jokes. That kind of thing is harder for Bush -- and off the table for Rummy. This suppleness with roles in a fast-changing corporate environment is why women are now doing so well running studios in Hollywood. Stacey Snider at Universal, Nina Jacobson at Disney, Amy Pascal at Sony, Elizabeth Gabler at Fox 2000 and, until five minutes ago, Sherry Lansing at Paramount are more willing than men to acknowledge that they are supported by a team. Not for them the lose-lose mud wrestling with their enemies in public. They find other ways. Everybody in Hollywood can do an imitation of Sherry Lansing calling you "honey" right before she inserted the knife. Still, with all the leg-crossing and lash-batting that went with it, it somehow hurt less. Harvard now needs to appoint a committee of women to figure out how to redress the innate differences in emotional intelligence by which men feel compelled to shoot themselves in the foot. --------------------------- Nomads, At issue is how to frame the debate around the gender inequality. Big shots such as Larry summers, the president of Harvard, thinks that there is inherent unequal distribution of cognitive skills across the male and female populations. Three other presidents (Stanford, MIT, and Princeton) suggested that the debate around this subject should not start with the question can women excel in science, math, and engineering but rather “why it is important that women participate in the scientific enterpriseâ€. Their rational is that framing the debate around the innate differences between sexes may reignite an old myths and “reinforce negative stereotypes and biasesâ€. Last night, almost all TV and news radio stations had something to say about this debate. Pundits weighed in and one could not help but notice that the “other†side has gotten stronger over the years. The proponents of innate differences in cognitive abilities between genders were on the offensive. Of course, Fox TV pundits had a field day last night scolding the liberals. Very interesting debate to say the least.

Alle-u-Baahane, sxb safar salaama. Dawoco, ever seen Eddie Murphy’s coming to America? It’s more like it! He survived in the ghetto didn’t he? Hell, he even found the tender-hearted, unselfish lady he’s been looking for. Same here my fair lady, I shall survive in the dark alleys of Boston if I ever end up there. I’m still an untamed lion and with my bakooro in my right hand, I can teach the boys one or two tricks. Help me here dhuubo, compose me few lines that can rhyme. The poem should reflect my geeljirnimo and must be suitable for rap. Something that can put my nomadland in the map...more like what Men at work had done for Australia when they sang the famous down under signature song. Do you come from a land down under?, Where women glow and men plunder?, Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover! Mr. many names, no beans for you ...hint hint, this trip is not a cheap one
