Sxb you can dwell on this all you want. My definition of atheism is that of a dictionary i.e. a worldview (belief if you like) in which God does not exist. Yes, it means no prophets, no virgins to devour in heaven (Im sorry ), no biblical torture chambers, no donkeys that take an Arab bedouin into outer space, no angels, or jins, all of that good stuff. Basically a non belief in ancient fairy tales Does that satisfy you? No. The core of most (especially Abrahamic) religions is 1) the recognition of a Creator and 2) a conception of an afterlife. Atheism rejects God as the Creator and Heaven/Hell as the permanent abode of human beings. However, the universe exists and death is imminent. Atheists in their rejection of a Creator and an Afterlife, must answer these two questions by providing alternative explanations. These alternative explanations are the basis for what we have defined as religion. You may say that religions come with a set of moral beliefs and rituals. For an illustration that atheism carries its own sense of morality and codes of conduct, see below. Claiming that Atheism is Theism and disowning your family member is encouraging free-thinking among your family members,is not only a grotesque piece of reasoning, it doesn't qualify for being respectable idea in its own right held by a respectable sane human being, hence, I rest my case. Claiming that atheism is [not] theism and [not] disowning your family members after [committing kufr] is encouraging free-thinking among your family members is not only a grotesque piece of reasoning, it doesn't qualify for being a respectable idea in it's own right held by a respectable sane human being. Hence, I rest my case.

That would be a little too difficult for AllYourBase to do. He has no principles and therefore he has no criterion for judging anything at all. AllYourBase is an empty shell. I disagree. AYB is constantly judging the merits of a theistic worldview. Thus, his arguments may be built on some sort of belief system with principles that stand in opposition to a religious understanding of the world. AYB--please enlighten us.

@galbeedi said: Are you just waking up in 2014?, Kenya is what made Madoobe a King. how else would a former Al-shabbab "horjooge" and warlord could become a President. it has always been and still is, the only trick in the book to gain power in Somalia. It is one thing for a third-world moos republic to interfere with one section of your country---it is entirely another for their forces to make SIMILAR looking signs, distribute it to your population, and watch them march. I yield that we have been physically conquered. But I fear that our minds and--the ever fervent Somali spirit--have been subdued as well.

AYB^ Kettle. Pot. Black. Please do not pretend that atheism or secularism is some sort of neutral township where reason, rationality and tolerance operate. They are both theistic positions--in opposition to ancient and established religions. In other words mate, you're far more religious than most of us here. You just happen to believe in a different faith.

It is not like her Mother is encouraging freedom of thought by disowning her. She is. Tell me why she is not? Is it true? Does Islam demand disowning your children, if they question it's conformity to Reality ? It appears you have already made up your mind. It would be fruitless to engage this topic on the merits.

They can do whatever they want, that’s not the discussion. Johnny’s point was on religious coercion in the Somali household, and I was agreeing with that to the extent that it means one is not free to practice a different faith or become atheist/agnostic in a Somali family without those consequences." Loose use of loaded terminology. What is coercion? Is it good or bad? What makes it so? In the present case, how was our lady heroine coerced? What should her family have done differently?

These are not easy questions. They require historical, spiritual, social and even political dimensions to be taken into account. But most importantly they require an open and inquisitive mind that seeks knowledge and understanding. Once this is achieved, you can go to google.com. May God guide us all.

I've turned down multiple 'Holiday' gifts, secret santa invites, 'year end' celebrations. They thank me for sacrificing my time, to work over the "Statuary Holidays", when it is no real sacrifice on my part. it is just another calendar day to me, except it is quieter and my paycheck is a little fatter Keep up the good work.

I hope we don't lose this honest scholar. He exemplifies the scholar's position in this world.

You are sounding like someone peaching that the people of Russia and Latvia are still citizens of the erstwhile USSR when if fact those nations have been on completely different trajectories in the past 22 years. Brother OS, you and others like you are far from being the solution to the problems of Koonfuria, you are the problem itself. Instead of wasting your time trying to find solutions to a problem which existed in another country which belonged to another era and now sits firmly in the trash heap of history, try to be a little more pragmatic about the current realities on the ground. It would be wiser if you start with the aggressions of the HAG against the peace loving people of Lower Shabeele. lol ileen anakaa wax aragnay.
