  1. Dear Raakim – It is the rationale for or against foreign troops one would have hoped to examine albeit most seem to want to debate the leadership, what he might or might not do, where he might or might not go, and its impending probable actions – all in the future. So what is one to do other than join the crowd and oblige in discussing the non-issues! And there you shall have it! To clarify the meaning of “foreign troops†in the Somali context, as defined in the Constitutional Transitional Chart .... in principle excludes troops from front line States, however does include [any] available. Open to be construed as desired, exploited to anyone’s liking, and demands guarded construal application, technically or otherwise, which thus far is missing from the midst of the congregating masses and pondering MPs. Now, on the issue of winning the hearts and minds of the populace as hornAfrique puts it, ideally perhaps, but I would contend that relative realism in a country as unruly as present-day Somalia no such opulence could be longed, if of course one is serious about re-instituting State mechanism and structure from the ashes. Combination of hard choices, and not so pleasant spinning with a moist lollipop on one hand, and a prickly latch on the other will have become the obligatory de rigueur. Clear disparity indeed there is between the ill-fated 90s US cum UN ignominy in Mogadishu [operative]. Simply put Somalia of 2004 resembles NOT in all aspects Somalia of the 90s. Whilst there are no winners, losers they are not. Whilst contending parties many there are, collaborative pursuit there exists. Whilst once bruised egos are being massaged, adroit submission is abound. Whilst dialectic manoeuvring persists, spellbound ricochet effect in disdain is averted. Whilst the nots are aboard, the promise is aplenty. And with a bungling parliament and a trifling government in place, lame duck as it might, gaffes of the 90s in consideration of dissuadable ill-thinkings of the 2000s, and the gained wisdom and sequential modules of past years could serve as a valuable framework. hornAfrik’s “Corner a cat and the cat pounces†analogy might have been true had the President-Elect not approached Mogadishu political leaders with golden hand-shake, which thus far seems to have served its purpose with Sudi et al singing el President's tune. Aboard all are, or so it appears, with JVA warming up to his covert overtures by way of aQassim. Gotta dash Cheers.
  2. Rokko – why so my dear? Femme Fatale – (would not want to run into you in an unlit alley with a name like that – joke!) how about the repercussions, expressed or otherwise me lady? Orgilaqe – So in your case, security needs override all others. And if need be, use of force is permissible even if all out war so long as it could be sustained. Would I be correct in making that assumption? hornAfrik – why do you think it is wrong and unproductive? And despite the age-old presumption that he is seen as representing “qabiil†rather than “qaranâ€, are you of the mindset to have the troops (sometime in the distant future), but also against it to protect clan interest? Baashi – I thank you for your well-thought reasoning albeit you seem preoccupied with the process of tabling the request rather than the issue in itself. Would your line of reasoning be the same should an appointed PM were to put the request for foreign troops forth? Che-Guevara – How do you propose disarmament be approached without foreign troops? Cheers.
  3. Where do you stand on the issue of foreign troops being brought in to disarm Somalis? Kindly share own [operative] perspectives along with the rationale on either side of the spectrum. For it. Or Against it. I for one am torn in-between as I consider the abominable events of the past 14 years whilst at the same time accounting for possible ramifications that might accompany foreign troops in congenial to a fault, chaotic Somalia with my heart skipping a beat at the sound of it. Esoteric, enigmatic matters in consideration of the latter picking dictates trepidations bordering psychosomatic anxiety in matters such as health related issues primarily HIV/AIDS and STDs to name a few, cultural dilution, and societal ills whilst the prospect of stability, law and order undeniably hinges upon amongst other things the disarmament of militias in the country. In tandem, one longs for the gains of the former, one is found angst of the latter. Dichotomy of sort it is, yet have it so. Despite the likes of Nuradin Farah's [NPW Somali novelist] stark, less certain objection of foreign troops, Somalia shall remain as it without weapons being removed from the hands of the militias. Conversely, aside the likes of Abdirazaq H Hussien's [former Somali PM] cautious, if procedural warning which could be construed in favour of foreign troops, certain I am many do fear the abstruse nature of the venture. Equally troubling is the contemptible inciting by the likes of Sheikh Aways whose judgment and reasoning resembles amnesiac frog at the races on a rainy day. I am of the believe that Somalis alone could not possibly disarm judging from past attempts, with the exception of course of tribal voluntary disarming as the case have proven in places like Somaliland and Puntland, and would venture so far as to suggest that any such notion is rather naiveté, if not quite beguiled in present day Somalia - chances I trust are not quite so blissful for wholly Somalia. Yours please?
  4. Rather dodgy I should think! What is wrong with these profiles? Pure coincidence, or are we debating the same character in Ngonge and Jumatatu? Both names happen to be of African tribal names. Would venture both are of East African to be more precise. Note the profession and location to further puzzle the maze. Profile for Jumatatu Member Status: Nomad Member Number: 4463 Joined Somalia Online: March 11, 2004 Articles: 247 Judge Me: (Votes: 2) Location: London Occupation: Xamali Marital Status: none Profile for NGONGE Member Status: Nomad Member Number: 4637 Joined Somalia Online: April 19, 2004 Articles: 952 Location: LONDON Occupation: Hi Tech Xamal Marital Status: Married but still flirting..
  5. NgongE – my dear chap, very good of you, and no need for an apology where I am concerned. In agreement I am that the case is one that leaves aghast revulsion and bitter sensation in one’s deep soul. And in the spirit of good faith, I too shall rest the case there. Horn - good to see you too, my old son! Pictures – Well, I have seen none; but suffice to say that the interview with Mr Gubadle, one of the detainees ought to strip any scepticism one might have had in observation of the good old doctrine “beyond all reasonable doubt.†Jamatatu – dear lad – as much as the human trafficking practice is outright appalling and ought to be condemned, the rationale for trying to draw parallel between two incidents so unalike is preposterous, unless of course one is rationing on nauseating toxic substance. One, of course, does no favour in either case by drawing an analogy along those lines, for by doing so, one defeats the purpose of the argument in its entirety. The motif in introducing the latter case, whilst terribly outrageous, is not quite so evident, nor relevant. Allow me to demonstrate the absurdity in the analogy you put forth my old son - The young girl did not pay to be tortured and mistreated whereas the boat people actually DO insist on, and pay for the perilous trip, snea in the dark of the night hiding from the authorities to undisclosed locations, and take the risk of either making it, or drowning in the high seas. Note the difference! Another point of interest to note is that people in Bosaso along with the administration in Puntland do denounce the practice in principal, and in fact introduced punitive measures to eradicate it, thusly the sneaking and hiding on the part of boat people. There are those who prey on the vulnerable few, and we must all denounce them and their trade. See the knot old boy? Gotta dash, Cheers.
  6. Interesting how you reckon three paragraphs and two lines equate "a lot of writing". Quite the reader, are you not mate? Quite the mind reader, are not you? Not so fast dear boy, before, you zigzag the corridors and mash the target as it were, reread original note, and come again. If you care for caraatan, that is , as I shall indulge you! If not, re-swallow at own time. And whilst you are at it, listen to this interview, and tell me if you still wish to waffle! http://radiolaascaanood.com/maqal2004/gubadle.ram
  7. Ngonge – you were not trying to engage me old boy, were you? If so, perhaps you are rather afresh in body politicking in SOL - surely you would want to take off the dark shades and come on in from chill for a doze. Ethics and morals which transcend political affiliation is the subject matter. Digging if it is the faddish term of the day, then do proceed, but know laughing matter this is not, old chap. Right thinking persons ought to have the decency to demonstrate, as Mr Jama so eloquently had, their disgust with the actions of Hargeisa's police and CID, and more so with its leadership. Keeping it quiet in the hope that it shall go away never does the trick. Alas, Somalis never seem to learn from history. Do not you realise that if Somalis rose in unison the day Dheel, Aynanshe, and Gabayre were sent to the gallows, the mess of the 70s, 80s and 90s could have been averted. Or are you too empty to recall the lessons of those years? It is one thing to deport poor Somali women and children, quite a number of whom mind you died in accidents as a result, it is of a different kind to stoop this low and persecute children in this inhumane fashion. You obviously do not seem to see the gravity of the matter, and the legacy it shall leave behind. Today many in Bosaso are flaming with rage and anger, thusly the lesson herein old boy is one of precedence – and that is the cataclysm all must be raising own voices in condemnation. Sympathy and feel for the victim and her family goes a long way in the face of tragedy as indeed this one is! Ngonge †... I thought you’re one of those who say Somaliland does not exist! Does it now or does it not?†On this, perhaps you are mistaking me for someone else. Do retrace your footsteps for clarity, for the answer you shall find in its midst. Gotta dash, Cheers.
  8. I always felt there are those with morals and ethics in the face of adversity and unconscionable deeds, albeit unpopular, whilst others would wish to mourn in the aftermath. A reaction of a decent Somali pained by the heinous crimes against humanity in the case of Ms Du'aale. Sorry to say the same could not be said for the SOL members of Somaliland camp! How perilous! WHO IS THE SOMALILAND CID? Farah Ali Jama — Ottawa, Canada — 17 October, 2004 Something so incomprehensible, so odious and rotten, so destabilizing, so sabotaging, and so treasonous that is tantamount to pure evil, pure tribalism, sadism, barbarism, and crime against humanity has unfortunately happened in our peaceful Somaliland, the beacon of democracy in the Horn of Africa region. The seas are now turbulent, the waves are high, the atmosphere of trust, peace and tranquility has been clearly been breached as horrendous crimes against humanity have begun to happen before our eyes and even though we are seriously alarmed, distressed, and disturbed by the existence of these crimes yet, we are trying to ignore it to our peril or trying to bury the truth to our shame or pretending not to be aware of such a crime ever taking place in our country ever since the restoration of our independence in May 1991. On August 15, 2004, a horrendous crime happened to a young Somali girl in Hargeisa city, Somaliland that is clearly an affront to the conscience, humanity, culture, traditions and customs, and religion of the Somalilanders. The level of racism, humiliation, brutality, rape, torture, and the savagery encountered by Ms. Samsam Ahmed Dualle, a 17 year old innocent young girl from Bosaso, Puntland at the hands of Vice Presidential Guards and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and whose only crime was to travel to the perceived peaceful and democratic Somaliland so as to visit her relatives during the school holidays is an outright act of fascism and a horrendous crime against humanity that must be brought to justice. The extent of the crime against humanity committed against this poor young and unsuspecting girl whose only intention of coming to our country was no more than having a good time with her extended families or relatives in Somaliland during the school holidays is scandalous, shocking, and shameful. This happy little girl committed no crime at all. But sadly she has unnecessarily suffered so much at the hands of some barbarians and have now found herself in a near dead situation where her blossoming age, beauty has been disfigured, physical health damaged, her hopes, and dreams for the future has been permanently shattered by some Somalilanders particularly the now evil Vice Presidential Guards and CID officials. What a tragedy. In fact, this gigantic and horrifying crime was not only perpetuated against this poor young girl but, against the entire people and state of Somaliland. This is savagery and criminal act by the rogue elements in the Somaliland Security Forces, is undoubtedly intended to undermine our international reputation, damage our international standing, and to sabotage our recognition efforts. Also, it is believed that this crime is the work of some shadowy saboteurs in the Police Force who work tirelessly in the dark alleys to damage our overall peace and stability, aspirations, democracy, cause, and the existence of Somaliland. We therefore must go to their holes and smoke them out and stop them before they cause more damage to our people and cause. The ordeal of Ms. Samsam Ahmed Duale is incomprehensible and incompatible to the moral values of a Muslim and democratic country such as Somaliland. This is a dangerous development in our country and a morally repugnant behaviour that needs to be stopped immediately before more of our poor and unsuspecting girls and women are victimized or suffer a fate similar to the one that happened to this innocent young girl. Therefore, it is about time that we face the reality, call a spade a spade, and begin to question the makeup and carry backgrounds checks of the entire national security forces particularly the so called CID and the Police Force in general before others are humiliated like Ms. Samsam. It is also time that we begin to protect our citizens from these emerging shadowy and sadist organizations, and to seriously begin asking ourselves the following questions: Who is the Somaliland CID? What are their backgrounds? What are their job descriptions and responsibilities? Who do they report to? Do they report to the Police Commissioner? Or do they report to the Minister of the Interior? Or do they take their orders directly from the President? Who is really in charge of them? Why did they commit this crime against humanity against Ms. Samsam? Who gave them the order to torture Ms. Samsam? Who is responsible for this crime? Is the Vice President responsible for this crime? Or is the Minister of the Interior responsible for this crime? Or is the Police Commissioner responsible for this crime? Or are the CID Commander and his henchmen responsible for this crime? Finding the right answers to these important questions will help us take the appropriate measures such as to decide whether we can afford to maintain such a sabotaging, disreputable, undisciplined , and brutal force or whether we have to smell the coffee and act accordingly to quickly disband this dark forces and begin to charge their leaders for committing treasonous acts against the people and state of Somaliland. As a result of these developments, I would like to inform my fellow Somalilanders and the Riyaale Administration that we can no longer afford to be passive or be silent or be complacent of the dangerous Police brutality trend in Somaliland, where during the recent independence day on 18 May 2004, these dark forces used live ammunitions against our young primary and secondary school students who were demonstrating for their rights and against the endemic corruption; many of whom were under age, nevertheless, they were seriously injured, clubbed, arbitrarily arrested, and unjustly jailed in the Mandera maximum prison with the adults! We also cannot afford to tolerate the level of arrogance and power abuse by the Police Force particularly the recent incident, where the CID officers arrested the editor of Jamhuriya Newspaper at his work at the middle of the night, drove him to a dry river bed, and threatened to slaughter him if he does not stop writing the truth against the government or accept to tow the line of the government! Above all, we cannot forget the tortured of the two young pregnant women who suffered so much at the hands of the Police to the point of suffering painful miscarriages. Worse still, now we have come to a point where we can no longer tolerate the horrendous crime against humanity, which was committed against Ms. Samsam Ahmed Duale, the little girl from Bosaso. This is very saddening and disturbing. And there is no way that the parents, relatives, and the kin of this poor young girl will ever heal. I therefore suggest that the government to widen its net to arrest all those officers who jointly committed this crime against humanity against Ms. Samsam and bring them to justice and to punished them accordingly by way of public execution. Only then will some healing begin. On the other hand, I urge the government to take responsibility and to seriously consider flying this poor and innocent girl to the overseas and fully pay for her medical costs and rehabilitation and later to fully compensate her for pains she has suffered under the hands of the Somaliland Security Forces. There is no any other excuse, no one can frame her as a terrorist because she is not a terrorist, and even terrorist women do not deserve to be treated that way. The suffering of Ms. Samsam will not be in vain, she has truly suffered a horrendous crime against humanity therefore the Riyaale administration is hereby obliged to quickly come clean and be straight with the people. Victory and Liberty to Somaliland, Farah Ali Jama, Ottawa, Canada.
  9. In God’s name, how could this be? How does one go about absorbing this? Baashi – doubts yes; and one must always give one the benefit of the doubt; but then came the followings! How come I see no denunciations coming the Somaliland camp here in SOL. Does one equate their silence be one of aghast and disgust, or one of close your eye and hope it goes away – Condone it! This captures the sadness of the matter: “ …Of the 100+ Humanitarian Organisations in Hargeisa, not a single one was moved by the maltreatment, rape, sodomy and torture of the 15-year-old young girl. Somali, or otherwise; a kin or else, one must be touched by the inhumane nature of the story; unfortunately, humanity seems to have taken a flip for the worse in Hargeisa, Somaliland: a city that had witnessed its share of heartless deeds.†DACWAD Ka Furantay Maxkamadda Gobolka Hargeysa Oo Si Weyn U Soo Jiidatay Indhaha Hay’adaha Xuquuqda Aadanaha. Jamhuuriya — Hargeisa, Somaliland — 10 October, 2004 http://somaliland.org/ns.asp?ID=04101010 THE ACCUSED CHILD A 17 year old girl alledgely hired a vehicle from Puntland and went directly to Somaliland's Vice-President's house. She was reportedly arrested for attempting to assasinate the Vice-President and was put to jail where she stayed for 25 days before she was transferred to the Hargeisa Central Prison. For 25 days, she was alledgely raped and tortured. Human rights defenders are aware of her case and are consistently monitoring court trials. What is interesting however is that the judge ordered the prosecutors to look for more evidence against the accused, proclaiming that there is not enough evidence against the young woman. The question is, why not dismiss the case and set the girl free? As of this writing the accused remains in jail. 10. For the undecided, it is between a man (Yusuf) and a pawn and a pseudo(Addow). It is a vote between a prime leader (Yusuf), and the Manchurian candidate (Addow). It is a vote between the miscellany of the military Junta (not the real deal) and the liberators (the real deal)! Abdillahi Adow – - Not a doctor (not even a Masters to his credit, unless of course Bachelors Degree from Italian universities are deemed as such) though his fans will have you believe otherwise, - Suspected of drug trafficking, dealings and illegal business interests (financier of his sons drug dealing businesses), - Supreme swindler of public funds, - Squanderer of position and authority during his days as the Somali Ambassador in Washington, - A known lackey and son-in-law of Siyad Barre to his dying days, - A true believer of centralist ideology, - No constituency amongst his own people, even failed to secure a seat of parliament from the residents of southern Mudug, - Could hardly secure votes from other Somalis except of course Otali and Co., - Unable to build broad-based coalition (a prerequisite), - Spineless when the tough gets going, - A Colonel himself with neither the medals nor the experience and skill to match the title, - No track record to exhibit any leadership skills, - Understands not the plight of Somalis, and spends his time between Washington and Nairobi dingy hotels, Somalia needs NOT a repeat of the Arta fiasco, Somalia needs NOT a bogus Dr, Somalia needs NOT a void charlatan Somalia needs NOT a PEN PUSHER. Somalia needs NOT a pseudo, Say no to Abdillahi Addow Abdillahi Yusuf – Staff College, Modena Italy, 1954-1957, School of War, (Staff & Command), 1965-1968, Frunze, Soviet Union, Attended Law School, University of Somalia, 1977. ( No idea why not give him the title of “Dr†since the trend these days is sticking “Dr†to the name of anyone with undergraduate degree. After all he did earn a 4-year degree from one of the finest, reputable war schools in the world), - A war hero (both 1964 and 1977 wars) with medals to match, - Unmatched prowess in military planning and warfare – not to mention the only living Somali war planner other than Ali Samatar, - Proven track record of leadership – Chairman of SSDF, and the first and current President of Puntland, - True champion of federalism, and pioneer of modern Somali politics – the first to dissent against the military regime in 1977, and stealth believer of Somali unity, - Constituency – Puntland State, RRA (Bay, Bakool), SRRC (Lower Shabele, Hiiraan, Southern Mudug (Aideed, Isma’il Sheekh etc), parts of Mogadishu), - Grassroots cross-tribal support amongst Somalis with the exception of Otali and Co., - A champion of the weak and the injured party, - A man with proven expertise in coalition building (perhaps one of the few), - Foreign ties – Ethiopia, some Arab countries, EU, IGAD states with the exception of Djibouti, and others I shall not divulge, - Understands Somali plight and politics better than any of his contemporaries, - Fair and straight arrow, - Charisma, does not shay away from the truth, and strikes fear in the heart of his adversaries, - Somali Nationalist. Somalia needs a man. Somalia needs someone who understands its ghosts, fears and nightmare, Somalia needs a strong man, Somalia needs a technocrat, Somalia needs a man who can fight when need be, and bring peace when situation demands, Somalia needs a MAN. 12. Xarago - It was a black humour mate. Nothing more. Sorry should you felt stomped! And quite the contrary – heroism has no relation to kinship. It is the representation on your part I observed.
  13. Bashi – Good to see mate. What is rather enchanting about our bud Xarago (quite a catchy name) is the logo of the good old Dervish harnessing Xiin Finiin in a gallantry mode brandishing the sword, and his newly found infatuation with the HM's emblem! The two do not quite go together, or did I miss sth?

  18. If I am not mistaken this is the historic site locally known as the “laba indhood†mountain aka Christ worshiping European vagabonds’ first markings of their presence in rural Somalia - the British first, and then the Italians. What you are looking in the first picture is the face of “Chris†himself, right in the middle of Galgala, aka Gaal Gala (get it). By the time the Somalis worked out the significance of it, it was deformed, but the marks remain on site to this date. The second picture was intended to be the “cross†a part (horizontal portion) of which had been removed soon after it was marked, and only one piece of it remains standing. Rumour has it quire number of Somalis died before the picture on the maintain was defaced and the horizontal portion of the cross was removed leaving the vertical half in place. Legend has it, both had been there well before the European got to Somalia’s heartland. I suppose it shall make a topic of discussion for the historians to devour. Best of luck, Cheers.
  19. Been all right mate. Stranded in the land of the free and the brave heart. And to think Dubya would preside over such promise. Oh, well … Consulting, better yet in the area of telecommunications (if you are quick enough on your feet) might not be such a bad omen, after all. The trouble with boxed up court rooms and stingy corridors of the Chancery benches where youthful, promising solicitors are damned in early years of their practice is that one missteps so often one’s throbbing deep veins give way before one could take pleasure in the sumptuous lifestyle that awaits, yet atonement for early jabbing rounds takes its toll, (not to mention prickly skull that seen never the light of day). Do remember your good chums in SOL, and share your experiences upon reaching Jiidali territory. Best of luck, Cheers.

  23. WDude - that indeed is the way forward, and let us hope the process is being replicated in the land of Somalis. Good to see in the "ardaa" my dear Sophist. Has been a while. Hope all is well in the land of the puffs and big wigs.

Unlike the boys at the Bush House, who poorly converse the language with which they wish to entertain the crowd, whose modus vivendi unfortunately is at par with acoustic Colosseum airlinkage transmitting an event of two gladiators disemboweling one another for the pleasure of the avaricious, if famished onlookers who dare not stare away lest gutted for lack of attention, the lads at radio Daljir are of a different kind. www.daljir.com www.radiodaljir.com
