Turkey should send another million middle eastern refugees to Europe. Both NATO and EU is watching and doing nothing while people are barrel bombs to stone age. Don't they realize this inaction will make just like the Arab despots who are watching their people die in millions? Europe and NATO, where is your conscience?

That is true. I have met a guy who bought a house in black sea town of Trapazon and moved his family from Canada. Turkey should stop giving visa to Somalis. The story in Mogadishu is that almost every " Xildhibaan" goes to the Turkish embassy seeking visa for his fourth or fifth wife. The Turks are amused about the lies of these members of parliament. Waxaad moodaa in la guurayo. The land roaming nomad will never settle until the country settles for good.

Guys, If you want to defend Ali Mahdi, please bring your evidence or hold your peace. One, OOdweyne tried little bit , yet that is not enough evidence to refute these charges. In my book, despite his mistakes, Caydiid was a tough man who should have been allowed to rule Somali unlike the opportunist Ali Mahdi.

Apophis, when I was young like most of my generation , I was unti Kacaan. Many scholarship opportunities were defrauded from me and I was bitter. I am not nostalgic of the past really. I just want to get our country back. Is that too much to ask.

A wise man told me lately that Cali Mahdi should be lucky for not being prosecuted from crimes and treasonous actions he committed in Somalia since 1991. " Tuug dhuuntaan arki jirnee mid Toosh wata yimid" Without further delay let us introduce the major crimes of Ali Mahdi in order to grasp the gravity of actions from 1991-2008. 1- He proclaimed a government without consulting the major rebel groups . When he was declared a president in 1991 by Manifesto and other elders , he never contacted or even considered the power the rebels were holding within the country both in the north and south. He never appreciated the difficult position the country found itself . In Northern Somalia the late president C/raxman Tuur convened a meeting and signaled to everyone to wait from the south especially the USC rebel leader Mohamed F Caydiid(AHN). I do not have enough details on the issue, but there was some kind of expectations for the rebels to form the next government. When the usurpers, Manifesto, proclaimed him president and in return he appointed Omar Carte as a prime minister, those who were holding the " Shir" in Burco decided to declare secession. Since SNM was the rebel forces in control of the North, they were expecting at least a consultation to form the next government. Those who were present felt that the North doesn't matter and just like 1960, they have to go to Mogadishu and join a government that was already decided by the southern politicians. Some people to this day believe that those who were present in Burco conference forced C/Raxman Tuur and others to declare the secession after what took place in Mogadishu. They felt ignored and have to design their own bath. If that theory is true, then Cali Mahdi is tone of the main culprit of the breaking up of Somalia. In fact, when Ali Madi was proclaimed president by usurpers of the power , "The Manifesto", there was still a war going on between the rebels and defenders of the late president Siyaad Barre. In fact, I saw an Italian Magazine who interviewed Siyaad Barre who was planning to come back, and there were certain hubris among his supporters who proclaimed that the establishment is back ( Rug Cadaagii Soo Rogaal Celi). In fact, there was certain fear that he might come back. Cali Mahdi, the man who supposed to be the leader , was begging cAydiid to help defend MOgadishu and deal with Siyaad Barre. We Somalis have a long span of memory and we usually do not analyse things probably. So, by judging this events, Cali Mahdi is guilty of indirectly encouraging the break up of Somalia due to his ignorance and incompetence. 2-He disbanded the Somali army within four days. It was Omar Carte , the designated prime minister, who proclaimed the disbanding of the Somali army. In fact, this man achieved within four days something the Somali rebels could not achieve for a decade. He told the national army members to hand their weapons to the insurgents from the north and south. In any country going through civil war, it is very important for the the army to secure the borders and keep internal order, despite its perceived domination of certain clans of the officer corp. Disintegrating the army creates anarchy and disorder that will make difficult for the future leadership to control peace and order. Cali Mahdi never understood the gravity of the situation and within months the people of Mogadishu had felt the the destruction , looting and wanton killing of innocent people by the anarchist people among the ranks of the rebels. Rather than use the Somali army to pacify and control the borders he disbanded. On the contrary, the TPLF, who had overthrown a bigger army in Ethiopia, told every officer and soldier to remain their positions until further order. After they took over the country months later, they disbanded the officers who they suspected to be very loyal to Mengistu regime. It was the same mistake done by George Bush and Donald Rumsfeld by disbanding 400,000 Iraqi soldiers and in return create the worst insurgency in the world. It was the reason Ethiopia survived after the collapse and Somalia didn't. Simple as that. The actions of Cali Mahdi and his prime minister were the root causes of the civil war that raged in southern Somali by clearing the way for irregular rebels, criminals and others. By that measure I found Cali Mahdi guilty of orchestrating the anarchy that is rampant in the south to this day. 3- The destruction of Mogadishu. Cali Mahdi , A man who doesn't control anything and disbanded the national army, decided to challenge the rebel leader who was in control most of the south. Rather than find common ground , he decided to use the tribal card and hold onto power. The reality is Caydiid too was also a culprit in this power struggle, and these two men destroyed the city of mOgadishu. Mogadishu was 99% intact the day Siyaad Barre left, and most of the destruction that took place which leveled the city to the ground was the actions of Ali Mahdi and Caydiid. Again I found Ali Mahdi along with Caydiid guilty of the destruction of Mogadishu. 4- Dumping radioactive materials in Somali oceans. He was the first Somali oligarch to exchange money for the dumping of toxic material in Somali oceans. Since then many Somalia from Boosaaso, Zaylac and Kismaayo followed his foot step. Others flowed to this day by selling foreign ships permits to fish Somali waters including both Mogadishu, Garoowe and Hargeisa administration. Ali Mahdi was a pioneer on this enterprise. Hence, Ali Mahdi is guilty of dumping toxic in Somali waters. 5- Corruption and misappropriation of funds. When late president C/laahi Yusuf took over Mogadishu with the help of Ethiopian army, he called a reconciliation conference to be headed by Ali Mahdi. Reliable sources told me that he took $8 million dollars to organize the conference which was held in Halane. He just brought some elders, spend meals and few accommodations. He wrapped up the reconciliation " Shir" within few weeks and declared victory without any heavy lifting or any meaningful reconciliation. He pocketed most of that money and disappeared. Since Mogadishu is improving security wise, he shows up now and want to built the highest tower in Somalia. For these latest charge, I Galbeed, the judge can not prove the amount of money looted. Some say it was 4 million others 8, and the witness who would have proved the prosecution case is no longer with us. So, I Galbeedi, the judge, found Ali Mahdi guilty of four out of five charges including the breakup of Somalia, anarchy, civil war and dumping of toxic waste in our oceans.

very good point. Oodweyne, I would like to suggest to you to leave the Somali/Somaliland debate and concentrate more on foreign policy where you not only make sense , but your deep analysis is well founded. It is really a game of hell. That means America might not lose as much than the Shia despots. Anyway, with Saudi Arabia, Sisi and others , the Sunni countries are their worst enemies.

By the way, this are not the typical Suffis we Somalis have known in our country. In fact, the original Sufis were the primary sources of the spreading of Islam in many lands. They were known for the love of the prophet and great charities. These current Suffi group in central Somalia are totally different. The so called Ayatullah Macalin Mohamed said, " he saw a dream and proclaimed Dhuusamareeb as the new Hajj" Kuwani Suffiya mahan ee waa budhcad hubaysan oo diinta deelqaaf geliyey. Anyway, do not worry about them. they already got some cash earlier and wanted more.

I think , us usual, the UN had taken over the election process. The big question is how the one man one vote thing could take place. It might not be fair for those who are unable to vote , especially those in Al-shabaab controlled area. Somalis usually procrastinate and before you know, it will be soon December 2020. I think at the end , we might go back to the old system of elders picking up the parliament.

The Shia militia sponsored from Hizbullah, Iran, Iraq and all the way from Afghanistan and Pakistan had wreaked havoc in the middle east from Syria to Iraq and Yemen. They started their war in Iraq to oust a dictator, Saddam Hussein. Since then their ain is not about freedom but sectarian hegemony in the middle east. While they were justified in their opposition and fighting of Sunni members of the Ba'ath party of Saddam Hussein , they are willing to die to the last blood to protect another Ba'ath party dictator in Syria, Bashar Assad. We are all aware of the emergence of ISIS and other Sunni outlets like Al-qaeda and their zeal to destroy Shia and others without mercy. In fact, that fight against ISIS had emboldened the Shia groups to use that cover and destroy Sunni communities in the middle east. In Syria, the early uprising against Assad was as popular as any uprising in the world trying free themselves from a tyrant. Yet, immediately, the minor but active extremists like Jabhat Nusra and others took the limelight. The western media discouraged the American government from helping the rebels. "Why would you destroy a bloody dictator and replace him with a terrorist" was their favourite line which handicapped the American policy makers. As the debate raged on, and Assad was squeezed from Aleppo to Damascus, ISIS showed up in the theater and changed everything. As the dithering of America continued, the Russian dictator , Putin, showed up and joined the war to distract the attention from Ukraine to Syria. Now, that was few years ago. As the rebels lost ground and Assad took most of the land, the people of Syria emptied the land and became refugees around the world. Eight million Syrians left the country creating the largest refugee crises since the second world war. Aleppo, the largest city in Syria was literally destroyed by the Russian air strikes. The fertile crescent of the middle east and major Sunni towns of Aleppo, Homs Hama, Raqqa and Deir Azur were destroyed and their population emptied. Idlip, the last province under the rebels is filled with other Syrians who left destroyed towns of Syria. With a population of 4.5 million people, it was supposed the last bastion of peace and de-escalation zone to keep the internally displaced people and the remaining rebels from being destroyed to avoid creating another refugee crisis. The Turks, negotiated with Iran and Russia to keep these zones stable and buffer zone for Turkey. Yet, The Russians and Assad had attacked these area in the name of clearing terrorist elements within the rebels. While their might be some extremist elements within the rebel ranks, barrel bombing neighborhoods and bombing innocent civilians indiscriminately should never have been allowed by anyone with any conscience. The Syrians with the help of the Russians were pushing to destroy the whole region of Idlip and declare victory. DEstroying cities and killing civilians had been the best method to clear rebels from town. The whole world is watching the destruction and barrel bombing of cities and towns. No one is talking about war crimes or aiding these helpless people. A million of them is camped at the Turkish border right now. The Shia militia and their proxies are fighting to keep a bloody dictators to power. They are coming all over the region to keep the Syrian despot in power regardless of the cost to civilians. For them the death of hundreds of thousands of civilians is nothing but small price to keep their evil Shia despots in power and ensure the sect is in charge. They are doing the same thing in Yemen to deny the people to exercise their rights and choose their leaders. These Shia groups were those who cheered when Mubarak of Egypt and Gaddafi of Libya were ousted by popular uprising, yet as long as the despot is Sunni , it is all welcome, but if Shia despot is overthrown by the Sunni majority they will fight to the last man to keep them in power. Iran and its Shia proxies were using the Palestinian cause for further their agenda by appearing to be anti imperial or anti Israel which is a batch of honor among the masses of the middle east and the Muslim world . They do not care about Palestine or anyone else but their narrow sectarian ideology just like Al-qaeda and others. This Shia have been killing Sunnis for the last twenty years for different reasons. Islamic history has shown that the Shia never propagated Islam or never fought in any battle of conquest anyone other than Muslims. Why would the Shia masses pouring in Syria and destroy communities all over the land?.for what? People including Erdogan keep talking about the territorial integrity of Syria. Who are the Syrians? is it the criminal minority who have blood in their hands and hiding in Latakia and the coastal mediatreaninas towns, or the 20 million who are internally displaced or became refugees in the region and Europe? How can Assad rule after destroying millions? This are the owners of Syria who should be deciding the future of their nation. The Turkish nation and Erdogan shouldn't be watching the unhiliation of the Syrian people by the despots Putin and Assad. Obama had an opportunity to defeat both Assad and Putin in Syria and check the influence of Iran , but decided to dither and confuse people without deciding one way or another. This is the legacy of American establishment electing and promoting rookies and untested leaders while discarding the veterans like John Mccain who understood Putin and other despots without ambiguity. Erdogan must rethink his relations with Russia and strengthen the NATO alliance that served Turkey well for almost 70 years. One thing about the western alliances are they are enduring and stable for generations to come. While disruptors like Trump come and go, the NATO alliance is still the most stable and enduring military alliance and Turkey should stay within the alliance despite the differences. Russia must abandon the despot Assad and prepare the future of Syria without him or face a war of attrition from the majority of the Syrians aided by Turkey and hopefully the west this time around. The gulf despots who were carrying bags of money for the rebels last time around went home and changed side to help Assad. Assad doesn't have enough soldiers to keep the fight, and most of his fighting force is nothing but Shia militia who hide behind the Russian air power and artillery. For the first time, the Shia militia is facing real weapons and real army. As their casualties rise the Shia militia especially , Hizbullah, will think twice to leave Lebanon and die foreign land by high numbers. A war of attrition will eventually destroy the small Shia population and turn the tide. Since the death of three dozen Turkish soldiers in an airstrike, Turkey had retaliated and hit hard the Assad army.

Ninka qaawani marka uu arko nin mara yar xidhan oo cawrada uun asturtay , waxa uu yidhaa maashaAllah. Haatu, nimanka aan ka hadlayno ma ahan dad xukun kala boobay amaba ku heshiin waayey oo is dilaya ama kala tagay oo la isku soo ceinayo. Waxa aan ka hadlayno waa jamuuriyad sodon jirsatay oo 15 sanadood ku doodaysa sidii doorasha baarlamaan loo qaban lahaa. Laba sanadood gudahood 20 jeer ayey beesha caalamku yimaadeen Hargeisa sidii loo qaban lahaa doorasho. THe last parliamentary election was held in 2005. You have elected leader, parliament and government, what is stopping these fools to do this basic exercise. If some you even think this is the end of the useless debate in Hargeisa, you haven't learned anything. Suldaanka, holding elections without rules, boundaries or credible census is not going to create harmony among the people. Last time , the parliament candidate for Woqoyi Galbeed (Maroodi Jeex) contested the election from west of Berbera all the way to Wajaale. THere were no counties or demarcated district to run. The same goes with Awdal. the candidate is asking his tribes From Zaylac to Dilla for vote. He is not interested or even asking votes from the larger public but his own clan. He is not accountable to anyone. If a district or county with diverse communities were assigned for contest, the candidate would have been forced to appeal to everyone regardless of their clan. If Awdal has 14 seats, divide them in to 14 districts based on population. Furthermore, in some regions people get elected with 2500 votes while others were more than 4000 up to 9000. In 2005, Saaxil region which is basically Berbera and few other towns, their total votes were less than 30,000, yet they got 10 seats. in Maroodijeex , you must score more than 4400 to get a seat. I am saying every seat must correspond the same number of votes. If Saaxil has 40,000 people it should have four seats. Make sure every seat must correspond 10,000 votes. There is certain fear in Somaliland that honest and correct census might prove false the perception of regions and clans, yet without basic rules, all what Somaliland doing is just obey the orders of the international community in order to get some badly needed cash. If the election is considered a national duty and democratic exercise for people to elect their representatives, they would have fixed these discrepancies. The early leaders, Cigaal and Rayaale did move the needle and create a system, but those who were ruling for the last ten years have;t improved the system. If these people do not know these things, they should ask help from others. The so called " Beesha Lixaad" in Nairobi might disperse the cash and demand elections, but will never help to improve the system. Look in Mogadishu, for eight years no one is even talking about finishing the temporary constitution . You do not need an army but a political will.

I even heard people dying in Ethiopia for unknown diseases. I can not accept that the only country in Africa who is bringing over a thousand Chinese a week, and as mony more transiting did not declare yet one single case of Coronavirus. Ethiopian airline is flying four major Chinese cities. They are probably hiding or not even testing.. The Iranians hided their cases and now people are dying. Over 200 died in Iran, yet the government declared 34 deaths. Ilaahayow naga hay.

good, let us hold elections.

First of all cancel all flying plans. Airplanes are the worst places to catch the virus. I heard today in the radion that about 8,000 Americans in California are are under watch. Plus the Americans do not have enough testing labs for the virus. The fear is that large undetected and untested people could be coming in America from different places. Here in Canada they just caught a person who flew from Iran. Canada is well prepared. Warya Tilamook, since you are in California , that is where all the quarantined people in America are , so get your masks and avoid crowded places.

Suldaamka, Saaxiib maalin walba ma nin" Faranji " ah waa halkii iNa Cumar Geele, marka uu Hargeisa yimaado, ayaa la heshiiyaa inta kalena waa la isu hanjabaa. Whether it is Mogadishu or Hargeisa , the Somali man can not make any decisions or agree on basic things without the " Sixth community". Without them we would be savages without conscience. I always welcome elections. It is the only legitimate way to oust a rogue leader or measure his administration. If the opposition guys who were demanding the ouster of Muuse Biixi this year, and the man ( Biixi) who bluffed and called the introduction of new political parties a week ago, discarded their false hubris and agreed with the white man to calm down, that is a good news for everyone concerned. Habase ahaatee muxuu yidhii doqonkii: Bariba waan halaabiye maxaad igaga fan faani.

Suldaanka, This is really blew the belt. This useless minister should be very careful with his accusation. This kind of unwarranted statement might destroy the reputation and the market of Hass Petroleum in Hargeisa and beyond. Since when the minister of public works became chief prosecutor or attorney general of Somaliland. He probably tried to extort money from the owners and they refused. Furthermore, the Biixi government might want to put him pressure to disband his fellow clan members in Boohoodle who are organizing. Tolka kala dir ama soo qabo, haddi kale waxa dhaca waad arki.

political parties and people to demand changes to the electoral system. The first place to start is redistricting. In order to eliminate ghettoised neighborhoods, you cross boundaries and create mixed districts. You join some blocks from South Hargeisa to Gacan Libaax or down town. Or some from Ahmed Dhgagax to 26 June. There are technical ways to reduce sectarianism. The clan system must be eliminated or reduced.

An Iranian lawmaker says 50 people had died in the city of Qom. He even says that death tall was as early as Feb 13. After China Iran is probably the worst area. It is all about travel. I do not understand how Ethiopia with daily flights from China is immune. They should be testing more. If one Ethiopian or Kenyan patient is declared, we should close the border.
-
I agree. Dadku dadkii ma aha. I think that is where we might find a solution. The councilman who should be running a mixed area or a ward with different demographics , is usually running across the city like mayors. The candidate is only after the vore of his clan.
-
Suldaanka, Growing up there in the late seventies and early eighties , never heard or seen clan ghettos or sub clans concentrate in any area. Everything was mixed. Although lately, corruption by consecutive mayors might have created ghettos by giving new lands to his sub clan which might attract like minded clans. Anyway overall Borama is mixed , and most people do not notice. I might add that there is a trend everywhere among Somalis to curve their own clan ghettos due to security and political fragmentation. Also, the system encourages sectarianism. You might live in the west end of the city, yet you are allowed to vote your clansman who lives in the east. There is no wards or ridding districts.
