1. @Xaaji Xunjuf said: This might sound weird buts its good in a way i believe they will be trained in Combat its good for the defense forces remember the key to a great army is training the better training the better the Military. I say good step Forward There is no shotage of training grounds, conflict, and targets for practise in Southern Somalia.
2. ^ I am praying for it. I am aware this gu season was a bit disappointing.
3. The biggest problem we have in Somaliland and elsewhere in the Horn is people have no concept of halaal and haraam in their minds. Also there is no fear of Allah in the hearts of the political elite.
4. @Dr_Osman said: For example as PL truly we could learn alot from SL regarding how their diaspora works because it is effective and they have done alot for their land, more then any region in Somalia. PL is sleeping their is no question there. SL can learn how to provide social service delivery which I think it has truly failed in in all of its govt. It PL SL can learn this from each other, imagine what we can learn from other regional admins to grow. A strong somalia united in federalism with once face outside multiple hands inside Dr Osman, unity among Somalis is a noble idea, but the reality today is that Somalis don't trust each other and those in the south don't know how to do politics. So although I would love to see a single Somali nation whose citizens live in peace and harmony with one another, at the moment it is not in Somaliland's interest to share anything with Somalia.
5. @Dr_Osman said: Tallabo what is somaliland going to do? Ditoore, we will just say maashaallah. Somaliland does not envy what Allah gives to others, especially our Somali neighbours.
6. Now that the odagaal iyo islaamo who lived here had all succumbed to old age (Alle ha u naxariisto dhamaantood), its time for the next generation to take over this place. Safferz come in and claim your spot
7. This thread is deserted like a ghost town and its golden age is well and truly behind it. Its demise obviously began when its star member and benefactor- the one and only Safferz ceased her invaluable contributions to this sad corner of SOL. To make up for the lost, Alpha then started to copy and paste YouTube music videos which no one here is even remotely interested. This thread is now an eyesore in SOL and like an old ugly crumbling building should be pulled down to make way for a better structure. I urge Libaax to spare the newbies their constant encounter with this shock and horror of a place and evict the resident squatter by the name Alpha Blondy whose photo was last taken by the newly formed campaign group called "Evict Alpha and bin this cantrabaqash".
8. How can the Muslims get past the elephant in the room- the theory of evolution by natural selection, before we can think about anything else? Is there a logical way for us to refute this very convincing scientific idea which is gaining evidence by the day?
9. @Dr_Osman said: Ciidan, This so called development bank, how much money is exactly in there? we know the west are notorious for simply pledging and not fulfilling. I bet there isn't a dime in the begging bowl kkkk The last time I checked "this begging bowl" had at least fifty million US Dollars of change in it That is nearly twice the annual budget of Puntland. As Germany and other nations join and throw more coins into this bowl, I am sure that figure will grow significantly.
10. Mr galbeedi, I don't know whether you have visited your tribal homeland or you journeyed back into Somali history
11. The HAG and SAHAL community should be given an advisory role to make this drama an instant hit worldwide.
12. @Alpha Blondy said: you can win against the whites by upholding the laws of their country. sadly your kind are to busy issuing fatwas and brandishing jihadist placards like attention fiends. ta kale, if you ignore them, they cease to exist, maha? Write for him in big bold letters. I can't believe he is actually comparing civilian protest in the streets of cities and towns and an open war between enemy factions.
13. The two victims were not killed by a madman as I said in my earlier comment but as the news media is suggesting were assassinated because of what they were doing. http://www.hiiraan.com/news4/2014/Apr/53972/un_staff_shot_in_somalia_were_experts_in_cash_transfers_piracy.aspx
14. @Khayr said: As opposed to what? You mean in comparison to how the civilized world and its people protest by way of say Carpet bombings; drone attacks and economic embargos (i.e. starving people). As usual you are comparing oranges and apples.
15. I think a major coal-fired power plant will be constructed in Somaliland by a Chinese company if everything goes well. Electricity is ridiculously priced in Hargeisa.
16. This is a sad news. The UN is acting irrationally by evacuating all their staff from Puntland just because two of its employees were gunned down by a madman. No place on earth is risk free, neither Somaliland nor the western nations those victims were born in. As the ditoor suggested, there are probably more murders and accidents in London or New York every year than in Somaliland and Puntland combined. So the UN should have just re-enforces its existing security measures and not dashed for the exit like a frightened mouse.
17. I wish every Muslim protested in this civilised manner instead of acting like angry baboons so often.
18. The American school lunch is like a poison pill for the children!! I can't believe they are feeding them with this chunk food whilst the whole nation is in the grips of an obesity epidemic!! The Japanese school lunch is on par with that served at a Michelin starred restaurant.
19. Cidansuldan, malistar. dalmar(+something), and somaliarising are basically different scripts of the same sad person with multiple-personality disorder.
20. ^ There is no looting of other people's properties in Somaliland and investors' property rights are protected by law; but dealing with the local authorities, the courts, and the national beaurocracy is a major challenge and a serious hurdle to attracting investment.
21. Ditoore, I don't know what the Somalia constitution says but the way countries across the world share their resources among their constituent regions is by taking into account the population of each region. Alaska is not treated more favourably than say Virginia in the United States. The same goes for all the other federated countries. Consider this scenario: a lot of oil is discovered in Puntland and as you said Puntland takes 50% of it. This windfall then attracts the attention of the HAG next door and a large number of them moved to your oil towns. Will Puntland oil sheikhs then share(equally) their petro-dollars with them; or will the immigrants get treated like foreigners or second class citizens? By the way, what are the pro-sahal policies your conspiracy theory suggestions?
22. @DoctorKenney said: One thing that could really help Puntland and Somaliland's budget would be the proper enforcement of the rule of law, and a respect for property rights. A lot of Somalis from Mogadishu are wary of investing in Hargeisa, because there isn't a strong culture of enforcing property rights for someone who isn't from Somaliland. I've heard several stories of Reer Hiiraan and Reer Galgaduud people attempting to set up properties and businesses in Hargeisa, but the local government did not do it's proper job in enforcing their property rights. So these businessmen just packed their bags and shifted their businesses to Mozambique or Uganda or some other country. If more and more Somalis (regardless of clan affiliation) invested in Somaliland, then business opportunities would increase, tax revenues increase, and the Somaliland Administration would now be able to afford to modernize their landscape including building a better Army, Navy, schools, and infrastructure. I know A LOT OF Somalis from the South, who have invested in Kenya, Uganda and Angola.....who would much rather put that money in Hargeisa or Berbera. And everyone (including the local population) can benefit from this. The same goes for Puntland. There needs to be more action from the Puntland diaspora when it comes to growing their economy (and thus their tax revenue) Everyone is headed to Mogadishu and is trying to invest in that one city alone . And that's a terrible mistake. There's a lot of opportunities in many other Somali cities. I couldn't agree with you more. Forget about other Somalis, my own uncle regrets investing in another region of Somaliland other than our clan stronghold. The culture of corruption in the local authorities is unbelievable!!
23. XX and Dr Os's political catfights are the best and the most civilised duets in SOL.
