<cite> @Nin-Yaaban said:</cite> Couple of yrs ago, i was at this shopping mall in Minnesota looking for a parking spot, when this Camry almost side swipes me and parks at the Handicapped spot. And guess who the occupants of the car were....Yep, Somalis. But here is where it gets funny. Since it was some kinda holiday, and parking was kinda hard to get, this Cadaan lady walks up to them and tells 'em to move their car. They had no placards, or plates that had that lil blue wheel chair thingy on it that says u are disabled. The fuckkers get out of the car (3 males and 1 female, all Somalis) and started arguing with the lady about why it was none of her business where they parked. This shitt goes on for almost 10 minutes and i am just sitting there shaking my head walahi. I felt like stepping out and telling 'em to park somewhere.....Waxaan rabay in aan iraahdo, Hooyadiin wase, sida wax loo akhriyo mataqaniin miyaa? Meeshaan waxaa loogu talagalay baabuurta curyaamiinta. Laakinse waxaan ka baqay in eey ugu boodan, oo eey rif rifaan. They looked kinda weird too, probaby high off khat or some other drugs. So i just left. You should have intervened and told them to get the f*ck off.

Recently I had a chat with a very respectable guy from Baraawe who told me with a heavy heart that habar gangster guys occupied his properties in Baraawe and completely ruined them even using the wood in the windows and doors as firewood. This sort of behaviour is so un-Islamic and alien to the Somali culture and traditions.

<cite> @Apophis said:</cite> None of your quotes provide an iota of support to your first paragraph. But then again you are someone who thinks your lifestyle is in line with Muslim theology (as evidenced by your posts on homosexuality), so you'll understand if I reject your views/ quotes on Islamic teachings on anything. I do not expect an avowed atheist to agree with me on anything Islamic but my comment is there to prove that what you consider "white middle class values" have always been fundamental Islamic etiquettes.

It has always been the US policy to contain the conflict in Somalia to minimise its consequences for the wider world. As the ambassador said, the US will do its best to help the Somalis but it is ultimately the Somalis themselves to decide their political destiny.

<cite> @Dr_Osman said:</cite> Muse Bixi is unstoppable, it's his clan's turn to run somaliland. They already had a clan meeting a few months ago and this was all sorted out, so siilanyo won't stand a chance to put any wedges between them like samaale jambal. The fact of the matter is it is Muse Bixi turn to run Somaliland and I doubt the hargeisa folks are going to sit back and watch their 'time' be rejected, it is stupid to think that will happen. Besides, I am not sure why u guys divide hargeisa up into south and north as if it's heavily shared city, that is far from the truth. Everyone knows who owns that city and it is muse bixi folks, if you dont believe that then go see how siilanyo was shaking and speaking really fast as it the whole city was at his door-step when he was addressing the TV regarding running for candidacy again. That should tell you enough thats muse bixi town and everyone else there tag alongs. Ditoore, to start with, Hargeisa is not divided just into North and South, but it is divided into North, South, Southwest, Naasa Hablood, Alpha Blondy's estate, Daami, East, Xero Dhiig, Stadium, the refugee resettlement area, and few other ghettoes who all hate on each other. Secondly, if Muuse Biixi is nominated by Kulmiye he is not granted the presidency and has as much chance of leading Somaliland as the other two candidates. It is the voters who decide and not Kulmiye party officials.

<cite> @Tillamook said:</cite> It will be in the interest for all of Somalia that a free and fair election takes place in Somaliland. I hope the elders and the general populace insist on having a free and fair election, and should not fall victim to the politicians who might want to divide them along tribal lines. Should Silanyo, Bixi or anyone else should win fair and square, then all Somalis should support him. All this talk about fighting Bixi if he DOES win is nonsense. If a fair election takes place and either Silanyo or Bixi wins, then we should support him! That is a good advice although I can't bring myself to support an unrepentant warlord like Muuse Biixi.

<cite> @Apophis said:</cite> It appears that the thread starter is suffering from what befalls many immigrants in white peoples' country; inferiority complex. People suffering from this mental illness try their best to emulate white middle class norms and values and cringe when they see others like them ( in looks) failing to adhere to the perceived cultural good of the said middle class. Be a coconut if you want but blame not others who refuse to sell out like you have done, Mr Galbedi. The manners of talking to each other in a low voice in a public place, being respectful to other people in your environment, coming on time to a pre-arranged gathering while not disturbing the other attendees, etc. are not just white middle class values but are also fundamental Islamic etiquettes. Some examples of these are in the following hadiths: 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'as (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Four are the qualities which, when found in a person, make him a sheer hypocrite, and one who possesses one of them, possesses one characteristic of hypocrisy until he abandons it. These are: When he is entrusted with something, he betrays trust; when he speaks, he lies; when he promises, he acts treacherously; and when he argues, he behaves in a very imprudent, insulting manner." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "He who believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him show hospitality to his guest; and he who believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him maintain good relation with kins; and he who believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #271, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ahmad, and Ibn Hibban. ...Abu Darda' reported that the Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace, said, "Nothing is weightier on the Scale of Deeds than one's good manners."

<cite> @Saalax said:</cite> Ethiopian airlines is pretty cheap. From UK to Addis Abababa is around £300. However I am not sure if I am ready for the smell of Addis Ababa again, haven't been there since 2001. 2001 is a long time ago given pace of the economic growth in Ethiopia. Addis Ababa is completely transformed and unrecognisable now.

OUR RULERS DON’T FALL OUT OF THE SKY "...The hearts of the rulers are in my control. When My servants obey Me, I turn their leaders towards them in kindness. When My servants disobey Me, I turn their rulers towards them with wrath and anger, then they punish them terribly. So do not engross yourselves in swearing and criticising your rulers but rather engross yourselves in Dua and humble submission so that I may take care of your (oppressive) rulers" - al-Hadith ---------------------- CORRUPT LEADERS FOR A CORRUPT PUBLIC? Present leadership in the Muslim Ummah at any level, from government ministries down to ordinary trustees of Masjids and Islamic institutions hardly qualify for the lofty requirements of leadership in Islam. They lack even the very basic qualities of leadership such as Taqwa (righteousness), Ilm (knowledge) and Ikhlas (sincerity), let alone the vast array of other leadership qualities that make a good Islamic leader. Some even lack Iman yet they head entire Muslim countries, and for decades! (There are rare cases of good leadership but very rare indeed). Muslims all over the world are fed up and frustrated with these tin-pot leaders. They are looking for a way out of the mess they find themselves in mainly due to the inefficiencies of corrupt leaders. But the solution to the problem does not lie only in blaming the leaders. There is also another dimension. OUR RULERS DON’T FALL OUT O’ THE SKY! Muslim intellectuals and writers have written extensively on the ills of these corrupt and oppressive rulers, often placing all the blame at their door. It may be correct to attribute part of our suffering and retrogression to these corrupt leaders, but is it fair and just to attribute every problem and misery only to corrupt leadership? Is it not being simplistic to expect that all of the Ummah’s problems will be automatically solved merely with a change of leadership? Are leaders alone guilty and responsible for the malaise of the Ummah? A sensible person would not be expected to answer ‘yes!’ to any of these questions. It would be foolish to assume so. The sad reality of the matter is that the Muslim masses are also guilty. They have a share in the problems that are being experienced. They cannot be totally absolved of blame as many people would like to believe. For in reality, leaders are but a reflection of the public. After all, leaders come from the same public, they don’t just fall out of the sky! YOUR ACTIONS ARE YOUR RULERS! Consider the following words of Nabi (sallallahu-alyhi-wasallam) on the relationship between rulers and the ruled: "As you are, so will be the rulers that will be set over you" (Mishkaat). "...The hearts of the rulers are in my control. When My servants obey Me, I turn their leaders towards them in kindness. When My servants disobey Me, I turn their rulers towards them with wrath and anger, then they punish them terribly. So do not engross yourselves in swearing and criticising your rulers but rather engross yourselves in Dua and humble submission so that I may take care of your (oppressive) rulers" - al-I’itidaal GOOD DEEDS - GOOD RULERS; BAD DEEDS - BAD RULERS It follows clearly from these Ahadith that leaders are installed upon men by virtue of their actions and deeds. Good deeds - good rulers; bad deeds - bad rulers. A simple, inescapable reality. This is also in line with common sense in that good leaders will not be appreciated by a corrupt people. In fact they would be in grave danger of harm from their corrupt subjects. The only people to keep them in check would be corrupt and cruel leaders. A person once complained to Khalifah Haroon-ar-Rashid about his lifestyle which was different from the Khulafa-Rashideen. Khalifah Haroon Rashid responded: "The subjects of Umar (RA) were righteous people, they deserved a righteous ruler. You people are wicked and corrupt, therefore you deserve a ruler who is such." Our deeds are such, that we certainly do not deserve a ruler like Hazrat Umar (RA), maybe not even a Haroon-ar-Rashid. REFORMATION OF THE MASSES IS THE ONLY SOLUTION! It also does not help much in trying to depose or assassinate corrupt leaders. Corrupt leaders deposed will be quickly succeeded by other corrupt leaders, maybe more corrupt than the first lot. Before any steps are taken to depose or topple corrupt leaders, a concerted effort of reforming the masses must be undertaken. Without reformation of the masses, not much change can be expected. Reformation alone will ensure that the new leadership will be a just, competent and benevolent one Mufti Zubair Bayat Source: http://www.jamiat.org.za/v310cover.html http://www.captiveminds.org/issues/badleaders.htm

The duriyad people are not more beautiful or intelligent or wealthy than their Somali brothers and sisters, but we surely are morally superior. We occupy the moral high ground :-D And in the sight of Allah it is the moral superiority which matters.

I hate when a thread degenerates into something it was not intended to be but let me state some facts here. The kacaan government was initially a multi-clan national government but in its dying days it metamorphosed into a bunch or Sahal clan militia. Siyaad Barre like any other dictator in the world was expected to do every nasty thing possible to maintain his power, but the problem we have here is he was not alone in committing crimes nor did he use robots controlled from his bedroom to wage vicious wars. He was supported, financed, and defended to the end by the entire D block. The duriyad refugees fleeing from Burco and western Sanaag did not dare cross into the Sahal territories of Khaatumo and Maakhir, anyone who happened to do it was basically mopped and lynched to death. Those who wanted to escape into the south couldn't go through Laascaanood and other Sahal areas. My own cousin was killed by murderous camel herding khatumite nomad while he was in the bushes with his camels. If this was not a war waged by the Sahal clan to wipe out the duriyad, why were even the sahal nomads involved in hunting us down? Everyone also know how the great musician Mohamed Mooge was murdered in Awaare by a hateful cagdheer man who was part of the cagdheer campaign against the duriyad. When the SNM persuaded Caydiid to start a conflict in the south and Siyaad Barre was finally expelled from Mogadishu, he was sheltered and defended by the Sahal community who even regrouped and attemped to recapture Mogadishu for the tyrant. So in the last years of the kacaaan governemnt, the Sahal community were those responsible for all the war crimes committed by the heavily armed SNA which by then was exclusively controlled and mosted manned D block personnel.
