Apophis;907912 wrote: Sorry Wyre but this stats are misleading. Out of the 7 billion humans, slightly more than 3.5 billion will be female, then you'll have to exclude those who are married, old(er) and for myriad of other reason will not be suitable. If you do that you'll find your chances are even lower than you think. Hang in there buddy Your answer is not detailed enough to be of any use to our brother so let us do some calculations: 7 billion humans minus 3.5 billion men = 3.5 billion women or 50% of the total. About 60% the population are married so 1400 million women are single 13% of the women are children leaving him with 1218 million women About 2% are old widows leaving him with 1193.6 million Approximately 5% of the above figure are lesbians who are not remotely interested in him. This leaves him with 1133.9 million. Wyre is a devote Muslim and will not marry outside of his faith so that leaves him with only 11% or 124.7 million of the remainder. Wyre wants to go back home sometime in the future and wants a wife who is willing to relocate with him. Therefore, only a woman hailing from that part of the world ticks the box. If we take the total population of the Somalis in the world as approximately 20 million or 0.29 % of the world’s population we are left with about 72571 potential suitors. Because of the 22 year long civil war between the Somalis which created a situation where a man fought his abti, Wyre wants to avoid inter-clan troubles in his family and so wants to marry from his own tribe. Using the 4.5 formula we have about 16127 women available for marriage. Say about a third of them want to marry a rich and powerful or a famous man and assuming Wyre is neither rich nor famous, he will be left with 10805 of them. Of these potential wives, say about 10% have a tradition of getting an arranged marriage within their relatives or as we say qaraabo qansax. Deducting these unavailable girls from the total we have 9724 left. If Wyre lives in the UK which has around 300000 Somali residents he will logically be searching for a partner in the UK. Hence, throwing that ratio of the Somali population into the mix we get 146 potential future wives in the UK. Because of the availability of quality education and professional jobs in the UK, some of the 146 women are career women who have sadly passed the age of reproduction. These strong career women together with those who were not lucky enough to find a husband early enough to have children are estimated to be roughly 3% of the population. The remainder works out to be 142. Because of the promiscuous Western culture some of the single women have wild parties with the likes of Alpha and so our good boy Wyre will not accept their lifestyle CV. The number of these Westernised folks is estimated to be as high as 30% leaving 100 in the market. With peace and stability returning to our homeland, a lot of Mr Nobody left the Diaspora to join the growing ranks of the corrupt politicians who line their pockets with the aid given to the starving Somalis. These shameless thieves have a habit of marrying three to four younger females to massage their egos. Conservative estimates put the percentage of brides tying the knot with them as high as 40% leaving only 60 singles for Mr Wyre. Not everyone of us is lucky to be healthy all the time. So at any given time, about two in ten of us has health problems and will have no time to think about stuff like marriage. Taking these women out of the equation leaves us with 48. Some of the 48 women are deeply in love with other men and hoping to get married to them. Some others are divorced and so are not suitable for Wyre. I will not say any of our Somali sisters are ugly but as they say beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and Wyre will be attracted only to some and not all of the remainder. And finally, don’t forget to take into account the morals, values, behaviour, and other characteristics of the single ladies which may or may not be to Mr Wyre’s taste. Good luck to him.

Police Sweep Hargeisa, Las Anod to Eliminate Security Threats Sabahi Tuesday, February 26, 2013 Police in Somaliland carried out security operations in Hargeisa and Las Anod over the past few nights to assuage any fears of threats against Westerners, security officials say. "We are ensuring that the security of Somaliland is stable and everything is okay," Somaliland Minister of Interior Mohamed Nur Arrale said at a press conference in Hargeisa on Friday (February 22nd). "There have been no kidnappings and no one has been hurt." Arrale did not give a specific figure, but said many people were arrested. The operation follows a warning from the British government on January 27th of a "specific threat to Westerners" in Somaliland. "That fear is no longer in existence," Arrale said, adding that police were conducting a thorough investigation of the suspects and will release all found to be innocent. Somaliland police chief Abdullahi Fadal Iman said anyone found culpable would be immediately taken to court. He apologised for any inconvenience resulting from the security operations and asked for the public's co-operation in maintaining peace in the region. The handling of the security operations evoked some concerns, however, and complaints that members of the Rapid Reaction Unit damaged private property during the raids, according to director of the Hargeisa-based Horn Human Rights Umbrella Ahmed Yusuf Hussein. "We will be investigating the complaints that resulted [from the operations] this week," Hussein told Sabahi, adding that about 250 people were arrested.

OdaySomali;921158 wrote: Cool thread, some great ideas and very interesting to read. But ... Nuune this is a wish list. Forgive me in advance if I accuse you wrongly because I have not read everything in this thread. And it is not bad to have a wish list if you have the finances to buy the things yout want. But if you do not have those finances it is perhaps better to formulate first how you are going to get those finances. The projects you have talked about require billions upon billions of dollars to be invested in them. Several things I picked up on: - One thing you did not mention is financing, how will this be financed? - The second and other is sustainability... both are interlinked. - You only talked about public infrastructure, and not so much the private sector. What the New Somali Republic needs to focus on is sustainable job-creation by investing in industries that bring in hard currency. This will mean a particular focus on labour intensive industries as our current labour pool is for the vast majority unskilled labour. - Your expectations of job creation are excessive and is not something that the Somali economy can realize. Of the 10m population, >50+ is non-working age. The working population is a small percentage of the total population. If things worked out the way you envisage, Somalia would need to import labour because the sheer amount of jobs created would exceed what our labour market can supply. - What you envisage is an enormous mammoth public sector - this is something that is not economically viable, beneficial or desired. We need our labour to engage in productive sustainable economic activities and not bureaucracy/living off the public purse.... 50,000 coast guard, seriously ?... that's excessive man. 1m people or 10% of the total population employed in the heallth sector... to say that is an unrealistic expectation would be an understatement. But having said all of the above, you have a good idea about what we need and are sincere in your desire for Somalis to realise development and enhancement in the quality of life. Kudos to you, we need more like you. Did you not realise that Nuune is a communist?

You, on the other hand, are related to the people of the triangle. Now are you going to the stop the non-sense and discuss the issues you posted? By saying the people of Somali Galbeed, NFD, and Jubbaland do you mean the Somali Bantus, the residents of Madheera, the residents of Diridhabe, and those nomads in Gaashaamo?

Anyway, while checking on Burco, here is Burco moving picture, just drag your mouse around and see, I just came to the conclusion that this place has being neglected , neglected is the correct term in terms of everything, Burco should be competing with hargeisa even though Hargeisa itsel lacks many infarastaragjar. Burco latest as seen from space Is this what we have now hopelessly resorted to- taking pictures of Burco from space to prove the place is not fictional.

Waar Nuune did you forget about my village Erigavo. Your dream mega projects are passing us by east and west. It is not really fair that we were first neglected by the former Republic, then Somaliland disowned us, and now your Jinn kingdom is not willing to throw even a few basic spells our way!!

No surprise there from the Africans.

Waaryaa Nuune, this is not a vision brother. It is more like a wish list being submitted to father Santa Claus. Also Hargeisa airport is not getting new runways. Do you think it is Heathrow? It is getting a new parking space for president Silaanyo's regularly large and unnecessary entourage.
