If these two agree on peace, the rest of the issues will disappear. If they don't agree on peace, everyone is better off going their separate way. It's about time Somalis told each other the truth and this is it in its purest form . I have been in favour of this for a long time now. Puntland should declare independence from Somalia now. Bay, Bakool, Jubbaland, and Lower Shabelle should unite to form the second independent country, and the remaining central states should follow suit and become another sovereign nation with Mogadishu as their capital.

My private beachside runway is much better than Hargeisa's xero adhi:cool:

I suspect nuune is the mukhalas. Just like xaaji xunjuf is the SOL's resident expert of all things Ukraine, nuune is the only man who talks about PNG in these threads and also as he is a frequent flyer he must have an insider knowledge about these f*to biciid islands. Waaryaa nuune ilasoo xidhiidh saaxiib inaadeerkay ayuu buufis ku dhacayee;)

Homunculus;974364 wrote: Monkey clan? sand dwellers? to say that clans are equally represented is a lie, and even if you say that they are proportionally represented would be wishful thinking. The structure of Somaliland concentrates the power in the hands of the president and his cabinet and we all know who controls the most important ones. Token cabinet posts and bribes is what keeps things from unraveling. Yes proportional representation is the correct way of saying it and yes Somaliland's political structure concentrates power at the hands of the executive that is why we have constant political crisis and deadlocks. Our democratic system is far from being perfect but nevertheless it works well for the people. I am not in favour of maintaining this current form of Somaliland's power structure, indeed it should be reformed root and branch with the judiciary and parliament gaining more power to make the country a viable entity but it is also not a good idea to use the shortcomings of the government in power in order to undermine the whole system. Without democracy and the rule of law what will bring the people and clans of Somaliland together in a harmonious way?

Classified;974377 wrote: No Kacaan-era official, regardless of his/her clan background will ever be charged with war crimes because they simply have not done any crimes. When a rebel movement, funded by foreign enemy attacks the military barracks and cities of your country, the government of that country has the duty and right to defend itself and civilians against ANY rebels at all costs. By the same logic we can say no warlord is guilty of any crimes because they were defending their clan or sub-clan. And also no Alshabaab leader would be guilty of any beheading or mutilation or bombing of civilians because they were defending their believes.

Homunculus;974343 wrote: Absolutely. I remember when a dear friend of mine kept trying to convince me of the virtues of a separate Somaliland and that was his main selling point. Somaliland got tired of this facade and now is consolidating all the power in the hands of a sub clan. Somaliland is composed of thirteen clans. The Jesus clan, the Awdal clan, the Khatumo clan, the East Sanaag clan, the Monkey clan, the Fox clan, the Gabiley clan, the sand dwellers, the Habar of Jonah clan, the Arab clan, the prophet Job clan, the harmless clan, and the HAG of north clan. All these clans are equally represented in the Somaliland power structures so the mantra of "one clan dominates the government" is just the propaganda of certain groups and it seems this author was deceived by their tricks.

Alpha Blondy;974123 wrote: the arts should be accessible to all not just a few expats, NGO workers and elite Qurbo-joogians. Somaliland literature has for far too long been championed by Qurbo-Joogian apologists, whose chronic paternalism has not only completely alienated readers but neutered and emasculated Somaliland based authors. HIBF works with a patronising ‘internationalist’ foggy tokenism, promoting international authors or Qurbo-Joogian authors, whose musings and civilising mission undertones lack context or indeed relevance to the realities on the ground, to the detriment of Somaliland based authors. conscious cultural critics like myself value grass-roots, organically inspired cultural products, products grounded in real life experiences and not some pre-judged culturally distant stereotype informed by the overarching Qurbo-Joogian romanticist mindset. this mindset not only hijacks Somaliland cultural and literary products for its own ends but more significantly constructs a condescending, cultural straight jacket and stereotypical concoctions to self-aggrandising audiences. this dominant milieu or the prevailing Qurbo-Joogian romanticist mindset is the dominant ideology that inhibits Somaliland-based literature from the mainstream, at least here in the nation's capital. what i'm proposing here, in my capacity as a conscious cultural critic, is a 'back to basics' approach, bringing alternative and seldom documented experiences into the cultural mainstream; with the intention of shining a light with the aim of uncovering, and authentically documenting, hard to reach cultures and sub-cultures that exist in the Somali-speaking world and in particular Somaliland. these voices should be organically sourced from their own communities (instead of being white, English speaking, off a Qurbo-Joogian romanticist mindset), given the tools and the encouragement to write books based on their experiences and values rather than having a romanticist Qurbo-Joogian ethno-centric culturally biased world-view forced upon them. the most important point is to realise that this romanticist Qurbo-Joogian ethno-centric culturally abusive milieu is the number one impediment to Somaliland authors and readers alike. Alpha the cultural historian, the social activist, literary critic, travel writer, photographer, weather forecaster, public educator, cultural custodian, news analyst, stand up comedian, female hospitality specialist, all in all pseudo-intellectual, leave HIPF alone

We're ranked 1st for enforcing contracts, 3rd for dealing with construction permits and ranked 4th for the overall ease of doing business out of 13 cities beating cities such as Nairobi, Narok and Kisumu. Not bad I say  Well if each state in Kenya can make their own laws and regulations then the NFD should get rid of all the red tape to attract investment.

The sole agenda of the SNM was to overthrow the kacaan government of Siyaad Barre and restore democratic rule for the former Somali republic. The SNM leadership and politicians like Abdul Rahman Tuur (Alle ha u naxariisto) wanted and were preparing to go to the South and hold talks with the rebel movements there like the USP and SPM. However, it was the ordinary man and woman who were returning from the refugee camps in Ethiopia who had decided business with the South was truly over and that no one would go to Mogadishu and represent them. So the former Somali Republic was buried there and then by the returning refugees;)
